Samhain couldn’t help it when ever she though about her having some one special it dissolved her into a fit of giggles. Mostly because who would have though that such a silly vixen who liked to talk with ghosts and play pranks would find such a nice guy to settle down with. Ever sense she could remember foxes had often ignored her or made fun of her for her ability. Her only friend was a shy vixen named Aisling and tons of different ghosts, human or fox alike. Of course she couldn’t really understand the human ghosts but it didn’t really stop her all that much. However a few months ago Itov had wandered into her little den/Haunted house and from there things had changed. He had believed her when she said she could talk to ghost and she was not frightened off by what he said was demonic like coloring. Well things happened and now they where mates. Of course the only problem was telling his family. Which they where going to do... eventually. Right now however they where out ghost hunting or they would be once Itov came back to where ever he had disappeared from. “Oh I should get something in case it takes a while and we get hungry” Samhain muttered to herself and quickly, and carefully bounded up the stairs to the top room which was her own. She quickly took some candy and a handkerchief out before gathering stuff that was edible in her little makeshift pouch. “maybe some berries?” she though titling her head to the side.

Itov streaked through the shadows of the trees. Dispite the gloomy atmosphere he felt as though he where flying. Samhain was waiting for him at her den. In his mind he could see her dangling from a rafter by her tail. Her orange and black fur looking odd in the shadows of the library. Smiling Itov picked up his pace eager to see his mate once more. Itov had yet to tell his fathers that he was mated. He had mentioned it to his sister Yavie and knowing her she had told everyone else, still Itov hadn’t officially come out and said anything. ‘Hey father Ixen, father Yuki I met a girl. She’s cute and sweet oh yeah and she lives in what most consider a haunted house. Yes I know father Ixen it’s quite a lovely place. There are ghosts there that I can’t see but she can so if I botch anything she’ll let me know. Yes I know I told Yavie before I told you, but well you see the reason I didn’t tell you was.. was.’ Oh how should I know! I can’t talk to my parents about how I have a mate... It wasn’t that he didn’t want to; rather he was unsure how to breach the topic with his fathers.
Samhain’s home came into view so Itov quickly banished his troublesome thoughts as he squeezed through the gate. The weathered stone graves he saw were something that was familiar to him now since this place was no longer a curiosity and rather the home of his beloved. He called out. “Samhain are you ready to go?”

Figures right when she wanted to take them she was all out of dried meat and berries. She doubted she would have time to go down and get some more. This theory was proven correct seconds later. "Hey Itov...” she answered back sticking her head out of the window. “Um almost" she called out. Ah well she would just pick something one the way there. Now for the next dilemma, how in the world was she going to get down the fastest? The stairs where and option but they tended to like to cause harm to any one that put a foot on them and she couldn’t wait that long. So she slowly and carefully climbed out the window onto the little roof overhang beneath her and inched her way over towards the tree jumping in it. Seconds later she was on the ground running over. “Hey you’re on time, not that you wouldn’t be of course” she smiled. “I was hoping we could stop to get some berries before we go off and maybe a small offering for the ghost but we can always do that on the way right?” she asked with a smile.

Itov smiled as Samhain’s pretty head popped out of the window. She just seemed perky today. He watched her crawl out of the window with baited breath. It seemed like what she was doing was very dangerous; however Itov had faith in his mate so he didn’t call out to her. Soon enough his confidence was rewarded as she was on the ground next to him. “Of course I’m on time. I couldn’t wait to come spend more time with you.” His tail wagged slightly betraying his actual excitement. “I don’t mind picking up some berries or roots for the ghosts. Though I don’t know what they’ll like so you’ll have to guide me as to what to get.” Itov looked around the yard but didn’t see any bright berries within immediate sight so he hoped that Samhain knew of a location to get some.

But you could be a little late” Samhain mock pouted. It was only of the things she secretly liked was people on time and the fact he was on time and glad to see her, it wasn’t exactly a first but it still made her happy. Her parents had always been late but that was mostly because they didn’t understand her and where slightly scared of her. “So that when I remember I need something I can have a little more time to do it” she teased lightly. “Hmmm well probably best to get one with a lot of energy that wants to play and those are normally kit ghosts” she said with a sad tone. It was always sad to see them mostly for the simple fact they never got to grow up. “They like toys to play with and berries and flowers if you get a girl” she stated. “There is a raspberry plant around here that should be producing fruit, I believe. However the bugs in the plant” A rather violent shudder went through her as she remembered the huge giant spiders of doom. Little spiders and daddy long legs where no problem, everything else was just shudder worthy.

Itov sighed dramatically. “Is that one of those girl things that no male can understand? I thought you’d have enough time for everything well before I arrived.” Itov grinned. It was fun to play with Samhain. Granted Itov always had his sister Yavie to play with, but many foxes thought Itov a bit to odd to be around. After all how many foxes liked quite places like graveyards as a kit? His ears flicked as he vaguely wondered what Samhain had remembered. Was it the ghost offerings or something else?
His ears drooped at the thought of kits as ghosts. It was just too sad. Itov knew about permakits and couldn’t image how painful it could be to be trapped in a kit body. He shook his head if it was bad being alive and in a kit body it must be even worse if one was no longer alive. He looked at Samhain with a weak smile. “What scared of a few bugs? Your dating a fox that other’s mistake for a demon. Why on earth are you afraid? I’m around to handle them.” He waved a paw as though any bugs were the smallest concern around.

“No it’s more a teasing you. I quite like that trait silly” She smiled. “And I thought I did too but apparently we ate more than I thought the last time you visited, or I stuck it some place clever to keep my mice friends out and I did such a brilliant job of hiding it I hid it from even my self.” She laughed and then shook her heads. This wasn’t the time for such thoughts of whether a kit had reached adulthood or not or past memories dealing with her parents. Well actually that wasn’t entirely true. Her parents couldn’t handle her seeing ghosts. Would Itov’s parents be the same? It wasn’t as if she cared about her parents that much after all as a child she had Aisling to play with and her grandmother was a wonderful woman that had raised her. “Would your parents really be okay with me?” she stated tilting her head to the side. “No never mind ignore that” she shook her head.
“As for the spiders… they aren’t bugs their spawn of the devil. Nothing should have that many eyes or legs” She shuddered again. “You’re very handsome and not really demon looking. If other foxes can’t see it, well actually I prefer they not see it then I don’t have to beat the vixens off with a stick. Anyways you kill them but be careful. They might be poisonous and as much as I don’t want to beat the vixens off with a stick I don’t want to be the only one that can see you”

Grinning more to himself Itov made note that Samhain liked him being on time. Somehow it made him feel like he was made just for her. As odd as that was it was a pleasant feeling. “And females wonder why males end up running in circles confused why their chasing their tails.” He shook his head at her question. “I’m not going to ignore that. My parents will love you.. its my taking so long and not being able to bring it up at a decent time that will have them harping on me until I’m with one paw in the grave.” He rolled his eyes upward and sighed. “I mentioned you to my sister so I’m sure she’s told everyone.. but since I haven’t officially told my fathers’ their give me grief. I know my father Ixen will ask me why I took so long to find a pretty mate and settle down.. father Yuki will cry thinking that I should have stayed a kit forever.. and my sister…” Itov shuddered. “I’m sorry.. Yavie is probably going to glue herself to you for a while.. If she starts to get annoying just clamp a paw across her mouth.. that generally slows her down a bit.”
Itov chuckled. “Spawn of the devil huh? Mmm they never seemed so bad to me. They kept the other foxes away from me when I wanted some quite time.” Itov blushed at Samhain’s complimenting, he didn’t really perceive himself as handsome. He certainly didn’t feel as though he was as stunning as Samhain herself was. Still he kept quite on this letting him mind create an image of Samhain beating the daylights out some other vixen. It made him laugh quietly. “Well I’ll be careful. I have to stick around long enough to introduce you to my parents in person or else when they pass I will N-E-V-E-R hear the end of it.”

“I don’t, I know exactly why males end up running around in circles, after all it happens occasionally on the female side” she teased. “Well if you’re most positive.” She said. However she tended not to have a lot of faith in parents. Aisling’s family was pretty good so she could give his the benefit of the doubt and after all he should know them fairly well. “Well like I said I’ll give them an earful back if it gets too stressful. Pfft call up friendly ghosts in the neighborhood to spoke them.” She muttered. Half why they where going to find one today. Well sort of mostly she went and found new ghosts to play with so they wouldn’t get too bored. “Well could there be a possibility she hasn’t because she hasn’t seen them recently either?” she said hopefully. “Ah well I guess I can always sic said ghost on her too. You said once that she might go off and try to talk to it instead. Even though she definitely won’t be able to see it, I will then make my getaway” she teased. She was sort of looking forward to it but at the same time she wasn’t.
Personally she had mostly stayed clear of spiders as a kid but a rather nasty ghost had played tricks with conjured illusionary spiders and mouths and from then on they couldn’t come anywhere near her. “Too many eyes, too many legs, and both a no-no.” she shook her head quickly. Taking a quick glance towards the road to see that they where still on track to the berries she looked back over at Itov. The blush was very indearing and she smiled at him before raising an eye brow at the laugh. Probably something about one of her beat up the vixens. “Oh so you’ll die at the end of it. I’ll go find some voodoo shaman fox and bring you back I will” she glared.

With both of his ears lowered his left ear flicked back and forth ever so slightly more of a visible quiver than a tic. “I’m almost scared to ask but here goes..and why exactly do males and some females run around in circles?” Itov tried his best not to smile at the orange vixen. She seemed so in control of the whole thing. Here he was terrified of the thought of how to bring up the conversation of finding a special someone with his parents and she had battle plans all lined up to deal with his family if they seemed at all overbearing. “Perhaps she hasn’t seen them. I’m not too sure.” Laughter rippled through Itov. “Yes that’s exactly what my air brained sister would try to do! It wouldn’t matter if she could see the ghost or not. She’d still talk the poor thing until it passed a second time. Just don’t be surprised if she wants to use you as a translator for the ghost.” Itov winked at Samhain.
Still feeling mirth tugging at his tongue Itov looked down at his own legs before looking back up. “Well I guess then I’m very lucky not to have too many eyes or legs. After all It would be so very hard to be your mate if you kept running away from me scared of my appearance.” Itov’s eyes widened a bit in surprise at Samhain’s mock glare and smart retort. Still he thought it might demine her wonderful performance if he kissed her while she was glare at him and looking so cute. I may be naïve in a great number of things though I do know a few things and one of them is if your mate is playing mock serious shut up and let them. It’s easier than facing down their wrath later. Besides knowing Samhain she could pull something like that off. Itov strove to do just that. He surprised his smile and nodded solemnly to her. “Yes ma’am.” The smell of berries was close enough that Itov could clearly pick it out.

“Well obviously girls are raised differently than boys and tend to have differently levels of chemicals in their bodies than boys due. So combined with two different ways of thinking and being raised and body chemistry misunderstandings are bound to happen because we don’t all think the same way” Samhain replied tilting her head to the side and going into a mock professor mode. “Oh and then do to gender you also get different life experiences because males are treated differently then females” She smiled sweetly as he explained more about his sister and family. “well then perhaps everything will work out then. If she gets the right spirit it will be so happy some one acknowledge it that it will put up with the constant questions and talking.” She thought about it and figured she could be the translator, after all for it to work she would have had to point out Yavie to the ghost and the ghost to Yavie.
“Yep… yep Extra legs is a no no, four is the highest that I will tolerate. Ugh and the eyes. I don’t want to see my reflection mirrored back that many times” She shuddered. “Evil things of doom, evil evil and even when you kill them they still get up and run off” okay this was getting her no where and she would run off in a worked up fright to get away from the evil things. Of course there probably would have been no mating if Itov had been a spider. After all she would be soo much bigger than him and he would have lived in some scary place and jumped out of no where and then she would have stomped on him because spiders didn’t understand fox. It was such a good thing they where both of the same species. She leaned closer looking at him, she wasn’t sure if he was going to laugh at her or do something else. However he finally answered with “Yes Ma’am” She nodded and pointed towards the bush they arrived at. She was careful not to look at the large black and yellow spiders and webs. “alright then solider to the berries”

Bowing his head in mock defeat Itov looked every bit the student that just learned more than he ever wished to know in his lifetime. “Ah I see. Yes Miss Samhain. So simply put because males were born male we are doomed to misunderstand and end up running in circles. On top of which how we are raised and treated only amplifies that impending chaos.” Itov nodded to Samhain’s words about his sister. “Still I do feel bad for the spirt to end up being pestered by a fox that could talk a rock to dust.” Itov rolled his eyes just thinking about Yavie not being able to see the ghost but still talking to the air and asking all sorts of questions. He only hoped that she ended up talking to a nice ghost and not some poor tormented soul that would loose patience with the vixen after a short time. Samhain would only point out a good ghost though. At least that was Itov’s hope.
“mm so would you tolerate one or no legs? ” Itov joked as he looked over the bush in front of him. Samhain was right about these spiders they were large black and ugly. Their back ends were a bright yellow that had some black stripes across them and the rest of the body was dark black. Eeshh I’m glad I don’t have to deal with these things everyday. They look big enough that a bite would really hurt. Itov bumped a stick on the ground next to his paw. Upon verifying that it didn’t have any spiders or other creepy crawlies on it he lifted it up in his mouth and used it to tear away at the webs. He ended up wrapping up a number of spiders in the torn web that was stuck to the stick. He continued this method to clear out more webs and spiders until one of the little blighters got wise to his practice and somehow escaped the web on the stick. Quickly discarding the cluttered stick with a sharp flick of his head Itov was satisfied that it had been flung far enough away that the renegade spiders wouldn’t be crawling back to quickly. Itov looked around for another stick and when he found one he repeated the process. After tossing the second stick and using a rock to smash a few spiders that were crawling on the ground after being dislodged from the bush Itov turned and grinned at Samhain gesturing to the spider cleared section of the bush. “Now I’m sure there are a few more hidden in this thing but as long as we whack em with sticks when we pick we should be able to start harvesting now.”

(long post of doom killed me crying ) Samhain gave out and little smile and patted him on the head. “Something like that” she teased. “It’s the simplest explanation because there are fox types that fit outside the box of that reason. “ She stated it was true. You had the very girly gay foxes that thought like a girl and girls who where overly masculine. Neither of who she had a problem with. “well anyways even though it causes the opposite gender to run around in circles the important thing is for the other member to just accept it and eventually resolve the misunderstanding.”
Samhain wasn’t sure about the whole Yavie could talk a rock to dust, but she had yet to meet her sister in law. Hopefully the rumors weren’t that true. Then again she was pretty sure she could handle anything and would just need to find a ghost that wanted company and would be able to handle everything as well. It would definitely be a nice change of pace she hoped.
“I could tolerate one leg or two legs. After all if it was a fox that suffered from that condition he must have gone through a lot of hardship during his life. It would be mean of me and hypocritical to not treat him like a normal fox even though there was something different about him. So yep I could tolerate less than the usual amount of legs.” She stated. However her face didn’t match what she was saying as she was cringing at the stupid large spiders of death. One would think with her Halloween background and her designs and ability to speak with ghosts Samhain would be okay with spiders. However the only thing she really tolerated was Daddy long legs and those weren’t exactly spiders. She looked away as Itov cleared them from out of the bush. She trusted him to know what he was doing and that when it was safe again he would bring attention to it. Sure enough he did. With a great sigh she brought her little basket forward and started quickly picking said berries with her paw. It was a bit harder since she didn’t have a thumb like humans did but there was no way she was going to use her muzzle to get them and it wasn’t so hard she did have claws. Some times she would come across a spider and she would instantly back away like she was stung before going to what she deemed a safer part of the bush. “Alright we seem to have enough berries. Now off to a graveyard.” She stated wanting to get away before the spiders crawled back to restart their homes. Ugh she really hated spiders.

So all in all it’s a live with it and lump it situation. Itov listened to Samhain truly glad that she was the female he had chosen to be his mate. Still he didn’t tell Samhain that he had been thinking of snakes with no legs and the unusal shadows some birds tended to cast when he mentioned one leg. It had all been in a fun natured jest, still listening to Samhain discuss her views was much more interesting. She was so very intelligent and kind. Though her face did look like she was sucking a rather tart lemon Itov hoped that was because of the eight legged horrors that inhabited the bush rather than anything else. There was a millipede that had crawled over his hind foot at one point. Rather than worrying Samhain with what he worried would be another terror to her Itov brushed the bug off with his tail and continued to pick without comment.
Shaking off a small little wood beetle that had managed to drop from the bush onto Itov’s fur the male fox was only to happy to get away from the bush. There were a number of creepy crawlies that truth be told Itov could tolerate but he didn’t really like. That and it seemed the first wave of spiders had started to find their way back to the bush so Itov was glad he didn’t have to go round two with the hairy legged monsters… epically since he didn’t have their own webs to wrap them up in this time. “That sounds like a good plan to me. So how is it that ghosts and spirits like offerings when they can’t even eat?” I’ve spent plenty of time in graveyards as a kit and as an adult and I never thought to bring anything.. though I can’t see ghosts and took refuge in the fact that I was alone, or at least thought I was. Itov wondered how many ghosts had seen him or had been close to him in his past. It must have been so painful for them to have someone so close and yet not acknowledge your existence… maybe I’ll take Samhain to a few of the graveyards I used to hide out in and see if we can’t make a few spirits afterlives a bit better.
(I’m sorry I can’t make a post that long -_-‘ I have to live.. after all I have a test this Wednesday.)

Samhain was definitely a good distance away from the bush now that she had all her berries. She had noticed the millipede but strangely enough she didn’t have a problem with those many legged insects. Well not until some one wanted her to eat one. Then there was a small problem. She looked at the offerings and smiled. It would be okay and even though the ghosts couldn’t exactly eat them the tradition/Ritual part would be fulfilled and it would give a nice snack to some critter she supposed. Speaking of snack she popped one in her mouth for a taste test. Pfft, she thought as she changed her statement to stupid lucky critter. Seeing as Itov had done a lot of the busy work she turned towards her mate and handed over some berries. Just in case they had been really tasty the orange and black vixen had grabbed a bit more than necessary for the two of them to snack on.
Samhain tossed a rock to scatter some of the spiders and eyed the spiders as if engaging them with a staring match… ugh she seriously hated arachnoids. She turned towards him and smiled. It was very heartwarming that he wanted to learn so much on the subject. “Well it’s an old tradition passed on through tribes and rituals from said tribes. They thought that when you made an offering the offering would be sent to the spirit of the deceased in the afterlife. It also allows the spirit to feel appreciated and that some one out there still cares. However since the tradition has gone on for so long Spirits now tend to demand some sort of offering if you wish to talk to them or if you want them to do something. Some times the spirit will follow you with out such a gift but its better to be nice don’t you think?” She asked. She smiled remembering when she had first learned of the age old tradition from her grandmother as a young kit. They had gathered some berries and herbs and gone to talk to her grandfather. Of course she already knew the spirit that would come with them. Hopefully sor was still around.
