♚ ░░▐ ██████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████ CODING TIPS Hello everyone! My name is i i e n c h a n t e d and I'm going to teach you a little bit about coding to those of you who want to learn how to do it! Coding can be an easy thing for some, but with a little help and practice it gets pretty easy. You can do the neatest things using codes, such as arrange text around a picture, alter the size of your text, color your text, and even do some pretty neat things with it!
The coding that Gaia uses is called BBC Coding- or Universal Coding. Most websites use it, but for this website, the coding is somewhat special using [] instead of <> and also has specific instructions. In addition, in Barton town you can use special "cheats" to make your text move over and create a margin using .
Of course, Guild Codes are somewhat different from Barton coding. In Guilds, you have to finish what you are doing before moving onto something else. lesson onexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"Ending" CodesThe most confusing and perhaps critical part about guild coding, is ending codes. How is this complicated? Simple, half of the stuff people like to do- such as coloring the "underlined" section of the text, making white streaks in text, and such, are not able to switchover from Barton Town to the Guild. Here I have a link to a picture of one of my own post formats from Barton Town.
As you can see, at the top of the post you have this big black bar with a white streak in it. The problem is in the Guild you can't get this nice white streak. In this picture you can see the coding view. So, looking closely can you see why this isn't going to work?
The problem is what's circled in red. It's because the code doesn't end! It's on going in the codes till the part comes in, followed by the ending for color.
In Gaia's BBC Coding, all codes must end with [/text]. Without it, the codes will go on- except in Guild coding. In Guild Coding, whatever you put before the text, say for example it will stick out in brackets like this until you end the code, finishing your code. In barton town, it'll continue on and won't need to end. So the trick to avoding this- is to a.) make sure you are spelling your codes right! Sometimes I accidently mispell white and do "whtie" or I forget the backslash (/) it's little mistakes like those that can throw off all your coding!
Here's an example. Say you have a symbol like this █ and you want to color every other symbol to make a unique pattern. I'll color this symbol (x4) two different colors. What I'm going to do, is to start off with the first color and skip one of those symbols. So I'll do this! Look at the code box.████ The product is what you see below. Of course, if you want to have black instead of the grayish color you see- the fix is easy. Just start the color coding and end the code with the brackets, blackslash and color (notice I'm avoiding it here, or else my text will turn that same gray color!)████In the code box below, I have edited the few black rectangles and inserted my second color, which is black.████ And here- is the result!████lesson twoxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxPicture AlignmentThe number one asked question in Roleplay Guilds, are "how come my text isn't appearing next to my picture?" The answer is really simple- and that is because your picture isn't aligned properly. In regular roleplay forums not located in the Guild, all you have to do is put in your picture codes in the text box and your text will wrap around it (pop up on the right of the picture). In Guilds, you actually have to manipulate the codes into doing what you want- or clicking the "Imgleft" or "imgright" button and pasting the url into the window that pops up. I find it's less annyoing for me to just manipulate the codes as I paste the url into the text box. To show what I mean I'm going to go ahead and use an example. When you are on photobucket, you hover over the picture you want (or click on it) and a window will appear giving you various options on how to share the picture; using html code, img code, direct link, and codes for IM and EMail. The codes that Gaia uses is img code (unless the person in charge just wants you to give them the direct link or url to the picture). When you copy the img code, in barton town you can simple paste it and the texts wraps around it. Except in the Guild, this is what happens when you do.
See what I mean? The text appears at the bottom of the picture and it doesn't look as pretty! crying Here's your code view below!See what I mean? The text appears at the bottom of the picture and it doesn't look as pretty! T_T Now by manipulating the code, by adding "left" right after the IMG or "LEFT" you can get your coding to appear right next to your coding (At the top, you can easily manipulate it so your text is half-way down, or not at the very top by hitting the enter button a few times) See?! Doesn't it look better? Or at least solve your picture problems?[imgleft]http://i1117.photobucket.com/albums/k585/iienchanted/icons/geekpride.png[/imgleft]See?! Doesn't it look better? Or at least solve your picture problems? Of course, the same goes for switching the img to the "right". The text will appear on the right of your screen. So take the img code, and instead of putting "left" type in "right". If you want your picture to be in the center of your post, just do the following. lesson threexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"Universal" Lesson Attaching URLS to PicturesA lesson that I think some of you might enjoy- especially for those of you who want to advertise your rps by using banners- might come in handy. To do this- is actually really really simple.
First, pick out the image you want to use. So I'll use a banner for an RP that I made for an example. Next, you copy the link the rp you want to advertise. Before pasting the image- you type up this . All of these, you type before the begining of the image code. After that, you put the "" As you can from the beginning of the code, I started of with the url section in brackets, followed by the url= and then pasted the url. After that, I finished with the ending bracket. After the ending of the image code, I finished the url coding.
You can also do this with words as you can see earlier in lesson one. You basically do what we did earlier, but instead input words.I REMEMBER WHEN THIS WAS EPIC!!!!I REMEMBER WHEN THIS WAS EPIC!!!! All I did was start the code with the URL thing and then ended the url with the bracket. Next I typed in whatever it was that I wanted to say- and then ended the Url Code. Thus making the text "clickable". You can do this with anything, urls for pictures, youtube, etc. More code tips to come!██████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████ ▐ ░░ ♚

♚ ░░▐ ██████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████ CODING TIPS lesson fourxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxSizesIn Barton Town (for now I'll just nickname it B.T) you can do a variety of sizes ranging from 0-30. Something you may not have noticed, is that in BT you can actually use decimals too! In the Guilds however, you cannot use decimals and you cannot go up to size 30. The guild's coding doesn't register it. However, the highest size you can go up to is 29 and you can definately use size zero. (Hint: If you are one of those people who tends to forget stuff- you can use size 0 and color=white to hide important things! Such as other character's speech colors, ideas for plots, and even have secret conversations with people without anyone else knowing!)lesson fivexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxExtended LinesThe best way I can classify this is by looking up at the titles for the lessons. I.E. Lesson five. The long line beneath the text, is what I call an extended line. How you get this result is actually quite easy. All you have to do is use the underline button and use color=white!
The Underline Code:u button coding The First Step is to start the Underline Code by hitting the "U" button at the top of your reply box located next to the S (with the dash through it) and next to the I (italics). So here's our startNext, right after the text we want, we type color=white (in brackets) and then put either ++++ or xxxx. I'm partial to x's so I'll be using them in the coding. After I get the length of the line that I want- I close the code with /color (in brackets) and finish the code with the end of the underline code.So here is what I want! With the coding below!xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxSo here is what I want! With the coding below!xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx lesson sixxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxColorsContrary to what many believe, the colors available at the top of the reply box, those are not the only colors that you can use in Gaia. In fact, there are many different hues and shades of colors that you can use. Like I stated in an earlier lesson, Gaia uses a specific coding called BBC Coding. For colors, they use specific codes or names. If you want to use different colors- you should type into google Hexadecimal Color Coding. Or, even search around in Gaia Test Forums- or even Barton Town OOC and check in Kilarra's Roleplay Guide! She has a variety of colors that you can use- but if you find the right Test Forums, you can find a whole lot more colors- and symbols than you bargin for. @-@Here is an example of some colors that you can use. You can use BlueViolet or PaleVioletRed, MidnightBlue, Thistle, MediumSeaGreen, and so many more! But, those are just examples of colors that you can do using the special name system that Gaia uses when it comes to colors. All you have to do to add colors to your posts are to type the following. color=name here (in brackets of course which are these [] things) your text and then end the code with /color (in brackets as well). Be sure though- to make sure you don't leave any space in between the color name! Here's an example.Say I want to color my text a golden rod color. I want to start off with the color code and go from there. Except, if I add a space this is what happens:The text comes out with no color, and the "ugly" codes are exposed.
So by eliminating the space between both words (inside the color codes start), the text comes out the way we want it.The other method of coloring your codes is to use the hexadecimals. Which means instead of the name of your colors, you have numbers! For coloring your text using Hexadecimals, you start with color= as you would in any coloring scenario, but before you paste the numbers- you have to add a number sign! Then you paste the numbers end with the bracket, and then do your text and end your code! We'll look at what happens if you don't add the number sign.So for this example, I'm going to use the hexadecimal of the color MidnightBlue. By not adding the number sign, we have the ugly codes showing! crying This is why the number sign is crucial! If you don't have the number sign, the codes don't compute in the codes. And by adding the number sign, before the numbers and after the equal sign, we have the color we want!Of course, you aren't limited to just the codes I show you- by using a specific website that many of you might have heard of- called tektek, you can even use a rainbow font!██████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████████ ▐ ░░ ♚
