Necromancer's Moon
Quest Giver: The Mage's Guild Location: Ayleid Ruin: Malada
Details: There have been rumors recently of a very powerful ancient artifact in the Ayleid ruins at the edge of The Valus Mountains, bordering Morrowind. Recently deciphered archaic texts have hinted that this specific Ayleid ruin contains a powerful gem known as the Jewel of the Inferno, an ancient and immeasurably powerful gemstone that gives the wielders the power to wreak terrible destruction with magical fire. The Mage's guild is sending a small company of spellcasters to investigate the ruin and retrieve the gem in the name of the guild.
Directions: Character's have been tasked with a mission of retrieval and start at the stables, outside the imperial city, in the morning, preparing to depart for their long journey. They will likely have to make camp for the night. Once they have reached the Ayleid Ruin, Malada they are to do whatever is necessary to retrieve the powerful artifact. When they have it they must return, likely once again camping, and present it to the council of the Magi where they will receive a reward and advancement.
Expected Resistance: Characters are to expect wild animals, monsters and possibly mythic creatures. When they arrive at the ruin what they actually encounter will be much different, for the ruin has become a home to a small coven of Necromancers.

 Eliya ~
Eliya took a deep breath of the morning air. Impatiently her slender fingers tapped against her arm as she waited, arms crossed, for the rest of her fellow apprentice's to appear. Granted she was early and it wasn't as if the others were late, it was just that she was bored and ready to get moving. The cool morning breeze whipped through her vivid red hair causing goosebumps to appear on her fair skin. Stubbornly she refused to step inside the warmth of the Chestnut Handy Stables. Instead she glanced over to where her horse, Apollo, was tethered. He whinnied as their eyes made contact and she smiled, uncrossing her arms and closing the short distance between them. Reaching into a saddlebag she withdrew a red apple and fed it to him, whispering to him quietly. Comfortingly she stroked the soft face of her white stallion. "We'll leave soon enough Apollo darling." Eliya stopped talking and glanced over her shoulder as she saw a figure approaching. Hopefully this would be another mage.
If they were late leaving because of one of her fellow companions, Eliya would not be happy. This was the first relatively important mission she had been tasked with from the Mage's Guild and she had no intention or expectation of anything but excellence. They had better not pair me with some bumbling fool..... she thought to herself haughtily, her eyes coolly appraising the individual as they came closer.

 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxEneas Sharpe || xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx●Status: Meeting at stablesxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx●Age: 24 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx●Location: Imperial City - Stablesxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx●Mood:Tiredxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx●OOC:Kinda same posting skeleton as always, as people from other RPs may see. I was lazy x3 Eneas' contact to his mother back in Anvil had faded over the time he had been spending in the Imperial City, mainly in the Mages Guild. And while he had aimed to write her every time he would go on an assignment, most of what he'd seen had been trivial and was neither worth writing or worrying about. Not that he assumed the same for this assignment, as an Ayleid ruin holding a magic gem seemed much more promising than finding a combination of herbs, but he would not expect the Guild to send such a small contingent of mages after such an important task. Two journeyman and one apprentice, he'd heard. He had the lowest standing in the guild, and he didn't quite like the feeling. Nevertheless, this assignment was a good opportunity to show his worth to the Guild. His leather armour was now strapped on tightly now, the iron dagger sheathed at his left side, the big claymore strapped to his back. A peculiar sight, to see a mage in armour leave the University, but Eneas did not distinguish himself through his behaviour or any other way.
Still tired from going to bed later than he should, Eneas walked through the Imperial City, rubbing his eyes until he arrived at the Talos Plaza. He knew the meeting point would be at the stables and while he wasn't too far away now he felt less and less ready. He hoped that the others that had been assigned this task were not there yet, it wouldn't shed a good light on him if he, the lowest rank, was the latest to arrive. He would in no way be late, he was still a little ahead of time. But he didn't want to arrive last. As soon as he left the Imperial city, he could already see a woman with fiery red hair -- a high elf. It didn't take long for the Breton to add one and one together and conclude that she was to be one of his companions. He had seen the woman around the Arcane University a few times over. Eneas wasn't the most attentive of people, he would not sit and watch or study the people that passed over a long period of time so he didn't know much about the people that surrounded him. Nevertheless, he knew this woman was waiting for him.
"Eneas here" he said with a smile on his face as he approached the altmer. "I suppose you're also here for Malada..." he continued, still approaching the woman, now adjusting his claymore which was poking into his back. Before even waiting for an answer, he turned around looking for others that could possibly join them. Perhaps they would be able to get an early start if the final companion showed early.

"Oh no, Oh no, Oh no!!" echoed throughout all of the elven gardens and through the Talos plaza. A shock of red and black sped through the streets, the sound of panting coming from it. "I can't believe that armorer! Leaving my curiass to the side when I told him I needed it today!" thought Aya as she ran towards the front gate of the Imperial city. She slipped on a leather chest piece and tightened her gloves around her hands. Eventually, she found herself coming upon the opening gates. At least the guards had been warned about her arrival. They were more than willing to let the streak of red fly through the gate. Eagerly, she found herself charging towards the stables. Two figures, a male and female, stood waiting for them. "Ah! I'm the last one!" She said as she skidded to a stop in front of them. How she was going to explain her tardiness had yet to form in her mind. She would just have to wing it.
"I'm so sorry for being late! I had to grab some supplies before I left, and then the armorer took too long with my armor, and I tripped in the elven gardens, and I just have no sense of time today!" Aya said, trying to find every little excuse she could find. She gasped for air, letting sweet precious oxygen fill her lungs before bowing her head respectfully. "This just hasn't been my day..." she said before looking up at her new traveling companions. To her surprise, there was another apprentice with the group. Not that she had any issue but this seemed like a job meant for higher ranking members, not a couple apprentice's and a journeyman. Aya didn't dwell on it though since she felt this was a good chance for them. In contrast to the apprentice, The Altmer standing before her was much more stern looking. She was pretty to be sure but from what little Aya knew of her, she wasn't that way with woman. Aya at least knew that she was of a higher rank and that she would be a credit to the team. Aya quickly regained her composure and put on a bright smile.
"I'm Aya Integra, Apprentice Nightblade for the mages guild, at your service." She said, looking at both the man and the woman. She had only seen them once or twice before so she couldn't say she knew their names. Hopefully they could get introductions out of the way quickly. Truth be told, Aya was excited to see the ruins. She waited for both of them to give their names, meanwhile searching for her horse among the stables.

 Eliya ~
Eliya sized up the Breton Mage as he introduced himself, nodding in response to his query. They simultaneously turned to look at another figure who was rapidly approaching. The woman had red hair not unlike Eliya's own, but her demeanor could not have been more opposite. The other female mage appeared in disarray, skidding to a hurried and awkward stop in front of them. Eliya raised a delicate eyebrow as the other woman's rushed words finding herself already annoyed. This is going to be a long trip....
The mage assassin could care less about the newcomer's excuses. It didn't matter. She was on time and soon they could leave. Still, Eliya did not say this outloud, instead she introduced herself with a smile that didn't quite make its way to her eyes. "I am Eliya, this is Eneas." The redheaded mage looked up at the sky and back to the others. "We have a long journey ahead of us. I was under the impression there might be another, but if they do not show in the next few minutes they will need to catch up. Perhaps it might be a good time to strategize by stating our specific strengths. I personally prefer the silent killer approach to combat rather then direct head on conflict."
As Eliya spoke she looked from Aya to Eneas. Perhaps her words would surprise them? What if they had rather sheltered lives and weren't fighters? Oh please in the name of all that is holy.....please don't let the mage's guild have sent anyone who is inexperienced in combat.... Eliya internally shook the notion away. This was an important task they were on. The mage's guild wouldn't have sent novice's to retrieve such an important artifact......
"I am skilled in the schools of destruction, alteration & illusion."

 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxEneas Sharpe || xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx●Status: Meeting at stablesxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx●Age: 24 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx●Location: Imperial City - Stablesxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx●Mood:Tiredxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx●OOC:Still an apprentice, always was ^^When the third member arrived, Eneas thought her charming -- she seemed like the kind of person who would be able to get tangled up in the morning when trying to tie her shoes, more helpless than the Altmer, at least. He was a bit surprised that this newcomer, too, wore leather armour -- he had never seen her before, or at least he didn't remember her. But he would've probably remembered another armoured mage, so he concluded that he hadn't seen her before. After her introduction, Eneas was ready to repeat his name the same way he had done when he greeted the High Elf, but she beat him to it: 'this is Eneas.' she said. While the Breton did understand that, from the Guild's point of view, she was his superior, he still didn't quite agree with her speaking for him. But at least she had given her own name in the process. Aya and Eliya, two names he would have to remember. He wasn't too good at remembering names, but he would probably be able to memorise these.
He nodded at her next suggestion to get acquainted with each other's strengths in combat, as he had learned that one should always be prepared for something to go wrong -- chance could break apart even the best laid plans. Eneas wasn't surprised when she revealed she liked a silent approach, but surely she could not possibly rely on only stealth in combat, there had to be a second measure in case the s**t really hit the fan. But he wouldn't dwell on it, he wouldn't even ask her to elaborate -- he knew that if there was to be combat, he would eventually find out. Hopefully it wouldn't be too late by then. The schools of magic she was now listing seemed to fit what Eneas was anticipating - illusion and some alteration for stealth, some alteration and destruction for head on combat. He expected every single mage he met to have a wider array of spells available than him, and this seemed to be no different. "I only really shine in conjuration, mainly conjuring up weapons and armour..." the Breton said, "Because I enjoy a head on conflict...if need be, however, I can also be stealthy..." he added, considering that Eliya had expressed a preference of stealth, and Aya had identified herself as a Nightblade, something Eneas assumed to be related to stealth.
He looked up at the sun and slanted his eyes -- they were still quite tired and not ready for such a bright light, but it was a good way to wake himself up abruptly and help him keep focused. He didn't know that they were still waiting on another person, he had only been told of two other companions, but perhaps there had been a last minute change, a re-evaluation of assets which deemed the mission more important than before and hence sent another person to investigate. No one had probably bothered to tell the apprentice about this, it was probably not vital he knew, so long as the highest ranking member in the group knew that they had to wait a little longer. At first I was like..................And then I was like...............But then I lol'd

Aya listened intently to the Altmers words, taking in the information and finding it mildly amusing that she had introduced the Breton when he seemed more than capable of doing it himself. She looked at them both and gave a light smile. They seemed alright for people she just met. People at the Waterfront were friendlier but that was to be expected given her relationship with that place. "It's very nice to meet you Eliya, Eneas." She said before leaning against the fence and identifying the paint horse she would be riding. She had bought it about a week ago and it seemed to like her. She named her Alessia after the saint herself. She just hoped nobody would criticize a hero's name to a horse.
Aya turned her attention back to the other two as they began to explain their skills. It seemed that Eliya had a similar skill set to her own but Eneas was a bit more combat inclined. After hearing of her preference for stealth, Eliya's choices in magic were a little too obvious. Alteration and Illusion went hand in hand when it came too being sneaky. Aya would know that for sure. "I'm skilled in Destruction, Alteration, and Restoration. I've also dabbled in swordplay and I'm very athletic." She stated calmly, trying to get serious and contain the excitement bubbling inside her. After much traveling, even with magic it was wise to know how to use a weapon. The athletics and acrobatics came with going about Cyrodil on foot during her quests for recommendations.
"So you said there was to be a fourth member? I do hope he shows. The more hands the better." Aya said, turning her head to look behind and see if there was someone coming behind. Not that Eneas didn't seem like good company but her preferences demanded something else. She also didn't want to be the one to arrive last if that was at all possible. She leaned against the fence and started to play with her iron dagger. The red-head pulled it up out of it's sheath and let it slide back in. She continued to do this for a bit, waiting for the others to say their peace before they went on their little quest. She was eager to get started.

tab『VELRYN SARANO』 tabtabtab" r y n "
"Hallo! Why aren't you mounted?" a dunmer male questioned from the road, where he had come to a stop a few moments beforehand. He hadn't wanted to interrupt, so he had waited for a better opportunity to break into the conversation. In the meantime, he had subtly studied the redhaired altmer, who seemed to possess an air of command...and a touch of haughtiness that challenged Velryn's flirtatious manner. We'll see, we'll see.
The man sat more or less comfortably astride a rented horse. While Velryn would much have preferred to travel by foot (and he was quick enough to keep up, too), he understood the practicality of heading for Malada on horseback--especially if they had anything large to return with. His glossy dark hair was caught back from his face with a rawhide cord, and he had the green-dyed hood of his shortcloak pulled up, hiding his sharp ears. Nothing short of expensive cosmetics (or a crafty Illusion spell) could alter his skintone, however: the dusky grey shades proclaimed his race as much as the Arcane University insignia patch on his backpack proclaimed him a guild mage. He offered the trio a brief grin.
"Wanted to give this old girl a bit of a stretch before things got going," he explained, patting the horse's mane. "I'm Velryn Sarano, your fourth. I'm ready to go whenever you are!" he announced cheerfully. His scarlet eyes trailed over each person in turn, appraising them in a friendly way. Velryn was an apprentice by rank, but had been in the mage's guild for some time. He didn't recognize any of them personally, but Velryn was a common sight about the University if one visited any of the gardens or the alchemy labs. This was his first official undertaking for the guild in quite a while, ever since his encounter with a necromantic cabal. He was hoping it would go well.
Ayleid ruins weren't exactly his specialty or something that interested him, but he figured it might prove educational and perhaps his skillset, tailored more towards combative magic and battle, would be useful. If his lore was correct, such ruins were often infested in some way, and normally laced with traps. The potions he had stowed in his pouch might be helpful, too... and he might come across something or other of use as a regent.

 Eliya ~
Eliya was pleased when Eneas mentioned he thrived on head on conflict. Considering she preferred to avoid it, it was always good to have someone around who could take that position when needed. A slight smile showed in her eyes as she nodded at his words. As Aya explained her strengths, Eliya nodded again. If the woman and man could actually do what they said then their company would be quite fitted to travel across country to the Malada Ruin. Eliya probably shouldn't have doubted or questioned the Arcane Council on their choice of individuals for this particular task, but when she'd found out that the other members of her party would all be apprentice's she'd found herself with doubts.
It would seem that their status in the guild had nothing to do with their actual talents, however that had yet to be clearly seen in action. Eliya opened her mouth to comment on Aya's final words, but stopped herself as a hooded figure came into view and approached the trio. His initial greeting gave Eliya all the indication she needed to quickly realize that this was their fourth member. He was already saddled and ready to go and as he patted his horse and introduced himself Eliya realized she'd heard his name before. If she recalled correctly his name had been mentioned by others in the alchemy labs. And now that she thought of it she may have seen him in passing in the gardens of the Arcane University. But then again he was a dunmer so perhaps it had been other dark elves she'd passed.
He didn't appear to recognize her however so Eliya quickly introduced herself and then mounted her horse. Hiding her impatience behind a calm exterior, the mage assassin waited for the other two to mount their rides. Once they were all ready to depart, Eliya turned to look at the others and spoke briefly. "It is a long ride to Malada. We will have to make camp tonight and continue first thing in the morning. We must ride swiftly."Though a leadership role hadn't been directly given to Eliya, she was taking it, unless challenged since she was the highest ranking member of their party.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ (Time skip)
They had traveled all morning making good time, allowing for a brief rest for lunch before traveling again for the rest of the day. Evening began to approach and the four travelers set up camp as the shadows of night began to overtake the day.....
 Eneas Sharpe || ●Status: Finished building up tent, waiting●Location: Campsite●Mood:Tired●OOC::3They had made good time and had advanced much quicker than Eneas had expected. He was used to travelling long distances, even on foot, since he had often visited the Imperial City when he still lived in Anvil with his family, so especially travelling on horseback was not at all tiring to him. Not boring, either. He had learned to find enjoyment in his surroundings as he travelled, he liked to see how the landscape was changing around him as he progressed, getting closer and closer to his destination. Not that he was a man of nature, he wouldn't choose to live in the nature for an extended period of time nor did he feel particularly fond of any of the beasts roaming the woods at night or during the day, he simply liked to observe change in the different biomes. He liked to observe in general. And depending on the pace of travel, this would grant him entertainment. With the fast pace they could travel at on horseback (while he wasn't a very experienced rider), he had much to observe.
He hadn't eaten much during the lunch rest they had and was therefore adequately hungry when they set up camp. Eneas was never one to make a fire from rubbing two pieces of wood together, or slam pieces of flint and steel together, and so he would let one of the others do it. They were skilled in the school of destruction anyhow, there would be no need to use such primitive methods as rubbing wood together to light a fire in a camp of mages. He had finished building up his own tent, just big enough to cover him in case it rained (it didn't seem like it, but nothing left to chance) and he had unstrapped the claymore from his back and laid it next to the tent, as well as his iron dagger. Carrying it all day had made his back feel a little tense. It was one reason he liked summoned weapons -- they weighed absolutely nothing. They could be swung around as easily as a leaf, but much more deadly. "So how long have you all been in the University?" he asked, "Might've seen some of you around a few times, but I'm not exactly sure on that...". He figured beginning some small-talk would be a good idea, now that they weren't travelling anymore and he had little other ways to pass his time. They hadn't talked excessively on the way here, so he thought getting to know the companions he would be working with wouldn't be too bad.
He sat down near his tent without offering his services to anyone, or to the general benefit of the group. He rarely did anything unless he was specifically asked to do it, his own initiative didn't go much further than his nose could reach. He had taken out a small leather pack which contained some leftovers from lunch (that is, a few grapes and a piece of bread). He had planned that everyone would bring their own food for the time they would spend on this assignment, but while he was eating the juicy green grapes he was wondering whether they would perhaps all contribute to a party meal or something like that. From food, his mind drifted to animals. First the bigger ones one would hunt for food, then the smaller ones that would be the hunters -- wolves and the likes. "Will someone have to stay up to keep watch?" he asked, looking at the altmer, "I haven't seen any animals in a while.". On the inside, he hoped she would say no. He hated to have his sleep disturbed by anything, and he hated looking at nothing, waiting for nothing and wishing to sleep.   At first I was like..................And then I was like...............But then I lol'd
 Elilya ~
As the last traces of the sun disappeared over the horizon, Aurora stood off to the side of camp, staring at the fading light. Soon the stars would come out and the moon would arise in its full luminescence. Technically speaking the moon would not be full for a few more days, but still given the lack of cloud cover (which thankfully meant no rain) Eliya knew all too well there would be plenty of moonlight this night. It has been a long day hard day of riding and the mage would have loved nothing more then to lay down in a nice fluffy bed after a hot cleansing bath. As it was however she had a simple tent with a plain bedroll and not even a river nearby. She stunk like horse sweat and the others did as well.
Internally she shrugged. Minor inconveniences were simply that...minor and not terribly important. This task she was on, this quest....it was important. It would give reward and likely (if all went well) perhaps advancement. Eliya's stomach rumbled unexpectedly and the redhead decided it was time to pull out dinner. Walking over to her tent, Eliya opened her pack and pulled out the food she had brought for dinner, glancing casually at the others. Hopefully they had all been bright enough to bring their own tents and supplies, food included. She began peeling an orange she had brought and sat down, cross legged in front of her tent.
No one had yet to take the initiative to make a fire, but it had been a warm enough day and although was getting cool, was not cold. If no one made a fire then Eliya would do it after a while. She was curious to see if anyone would mention it or be proactive. Thus far the answer was no. Since they had arrived and made camp not much in the way of conversation had transpired, however the one known as Eneas finally broke the silence. His words were addressed to all of them and Eliya decided to go ahead and reply first. "I have attended the University for quite some time."
When the question arose of keeping watch, the Altmer nodded as the question was directed towards her. "Yes. Many animals only come out at night. It would be foolish not to keep watch. " She was surprised he hadn't thought of this. "I will volunteer for the first watch when everyone is ready to sleep."
Once they had picketed their horses, Velryn swaggered away from the camp for a quarter hour to stretch his legs and take a gander at the area surrounding them. He was also not-so-subtly taking a look for possible fresh herbs, mushrooms and other flora, but nothing stood out to him that he did not already had stowed on himself or back in his main collection at the university. He didn't want to return empty-handed, so he took the opportunity as he circled back to collect up kindling and a few larger pieces of wood for a fire. The dunmer returned to the camp to see the rest of his companions setting up. He picked a spot next to the altmer to put his pack and other gear aside, tidying the wood into a temporary pile nearby.
Quickly, Velryn assembled the simple single-man tent most travelers came to rely on for shelter on the road. He was a deft hand at setting up and breaking down camps, having traveled for a majority of his childhood and into his young adult years. After he had placed his bedroll inside, he turned back to the wood pile. Stones. We need some stones... and a bare patch for the fire to sit on.
Easy enough to do. He removed the small hand-spade from his pack and, in a spot roughly central to the arrangement of tents, scraped away a layer of moss and grass down to the dirt. He listened to the talk, but didn't feel much like partaking of it until he was finished and had his own meal ready. When the three-by-three approximated space was clear, the dunmer looked up to their redhaired altmer leader. He didn't want to disturb the other two: the male, in particular, seemed content where he was, but Eliya had an air of one who got things done.
"Excuse me," he asked her, "but could you lend me a hand and find a few decent stones to form a ring?" He gestured to the beginnings of the firepit. "Oh--and I don't mind taking second watch. I'm usually fairly nocturnal anyway."
 Eliya~ Eliya was pleased when she noticed the male dunmer making preparations for a fire. So at least one of her companions weren't incompetent, hell he was even proactive. Thus far however he hadn't said too much, while fine in itself, caused the redhead to wonder if he wasn't much for social interaction, or if he just preferred to prioritize and get things done first.
Her eyes flickered to the other redheaded woman who hadn't said much either since their arrival. It surprised Eliya considering the way the woman had introduced herself in the morning, she had fully expected this one to be a chatterbox, if even annoyingly so. Perhaps it was because she was exhausted from all the hard riding and she now had little energy for talking. Eliya liked that conclusion. Aya didn't look too tough.
The mage assassin turned her attention to the dark skinned man as he addressed her with a question. A smile made its way to her lips as he offered to take second watch. Impressive. The middle watches were always the worst because it meant you would have your sleep interrupted. Having just finished her orange, Eliya nodded at the other mage. "Certainly. A fire will help keep wild animals away." She stood up and wiped her hands on her pants. "That just leaves the last two shifts." She glanced at the others. "You two can decide which you'd like to take."
Eliya walked a little away from their campsite as she looked for suitable rocks for the fire. It took only a few minutes and then she was back and lining them up in a circle. [[ooc- so input as to whether you guys like shorter plot jumping rp's or longer ones? Aya hadn't talked much since they had arrived at their intended campsite. It was out of character for her to be sure but she had her reasons. While energetic when in one place, she was a rather solemn traveler. She liked to take in all of nature and enjoyed the tranquility that it gave off. However, she could tell that her quietness was noticed as she felt Eliya's gaze fall on her for a moment. This prompted her to start doing some work and decided to help the others with the fire. "I can go get some Kindling." She said, getting off a a fallen log that she had been sitting on. Even with magic, you needed something to burn in order for the flame to stay. Magic was as much a science as anything else.
She began to scour the outskirts of the campsite. She made sure she was far enough that she could find some decent wood and close enough to see the camp. This way, if an animal took her by surprise, she could get help. Although that wasn't likely unless she started shooting fireballs into the woods at random. Eventually, Aya found herself with an arm full of firewood and began to walk back, humming the song of Cyrus the Redguard. She piled the wood at the center of the camp where the fire seemed the most suitable. At least she was doing something now. She hadn't proven to be the most competent of the group.
"I guess I can take the third shift. I don't sleep much and I could enjoy the scenery." She said, patting her hands on her legs to remove the wood chips from the kindling. She sat down and started playing with a tiny fireball she sparked on her finger. She enjoyed making little light shows with fire. It was so much fun to make sparks fly before your eyes in a cavalcade of color. "Oh, and to answer your question from before, I've been with the guild for little over a year." She said, looking at Eliya as she twirled the fire into a cone. It spun like a whirlpool and then began to snake up her arm and back down. The fact that she wasn't burned showed that she practiced this trick a great deal. If worse came to worse, cold spells and healing would heal it right up.
"Thank you for the assistance, ladies." Velryn smiled at each redhaired woman in turn, Eliya having gathered stones for the central firepit, and Aya having taken over the chore of setting wood to blaze. He noticed she had also added more wood to their stock of fuel, saving him the task of searching for more later. His expression then grew moderately ponderous. He never much liked answering the query of how much time he had been within the Mage's Guild and at the University, since his rank was quite low compared to the span of time he had spent in the organization.
Still, it would be rude, maybe even a bit suspicious, if he ignored it completely. "I have been in the Mage's Guild for some time--nearly eight years, now, but there was a span of four years where I took a long leave of absence," he explained. He was fairly sure none of the individuals present knew of his Mage's Guild origins at Skingraad and the reason for his extended leave. "I began working with the Fighter's Guild instead, but a few years ago I began attending the University. I've not undertaken any majors assignments in a while--mostly, I go on little ventures for the alchemy labs. That's my specialty, but I've studied destructive spells and healing arts as well." He hoped his explanation would suffice and clarified that his ranking was more one of choice and not ineptitude.
The dunmer returned briefly to his tent, removing his leather gauntlets and hooded half-cloak to stow within the shelter. He then came back to the fireside with his pack in hand, taking a seat cross-legged by the growing blaze. With a stick, he rearranged one portion of the fireside to drag out some red-hot coals, surrounding them with stones. Quickly, Velryn dug out a small iron pot, filled it half with water from his canteen, dumped into the liquid a cheesecloth wrapped ball of herbs to flavour the water, and sat this on the coals by the flames to heat. From his pack, he added some dried but pre-cut vegetables and meat from a tightly wrapped pouch. Idly, he stirred the mixture with a long spoon from another compartment of his pack, which was designed specifically to hold alchemy gear but worked just as well for cookware.
"If anyone wants somewhat warm to eat, help yourselves, although I only have one spare mug," he offered to the group.
