Captain Painite was eager to meet up with the young Fluorite again. When they first met, Fluorite was brand new, and Painite was a Lieutenant. Not too much time had passed, and she was eager to see what Fluo had picked up since their meeting and subsequent coffee.

Plus, Painite wanted to show off how not-Lieutenant she was now.

The Negaverse agent was feeling like she was at the top of her game, though there was only up to go. Always improvement to be made. She was confident, if not cocky, and eager, if not reckless. The things she wanted to do! The traps she had in her mind, the plots for energy harvesting and senshi hunting. It was almost too much to keep to herself.

She was glad she had Zan to help her now, to be sure. A partner in crime, who called her boss? It only stoked the fire, building her ego and her delusions of grandeur. Delusions? She told herself she never over reached: she had a perfect understanding of how far her awesomeness stretched, and what she was capable of.

Just ask her, as the saying went.

She was waiting in a quiet part of town, an alley that was near a bar that she was sure Fluorite would find amusing to play at if they got distracted from their agreed sparring match. She hadn't mentioned her promotion, however, and was waiting with her weapon tucked away in its subspace pocket.

The idea of a sparring match had come a bit out of left field, at least for Fluorite. Through... in the end, she had accepted. Sure, she had yet to take up her captain on his promised game of tag, but what would this hurt ? Sure, he was here to teach her, but he also had the rest of his team to worry about ! She had to take initiative !

It wasn't too long after Painite had arrived that Fluorite's aura came close enough to be felt. She had forgone her usual 'disguise' - it was getting a little too hot for the jacket, and oddly enough, walking nearly barefoot wasn't so bad once you got used to it.

The definitively-still-lieutenant Fluorite turned the corner, still happily slurping from the slushee she had picked up before calling upon her uniform, and came face to face with the definitively-not-lieutenant-anymore Painite.

There was a sudden slurping sound, and the girl coughed. Clearly, she hadn't expected this. "Holy s**t !"

Painite was not always the best at waiting. It was strange, as a lot of what she did, in the Negaverse and in her occupations, required patience. In short term while waiting for a cue or bothering through the red tape of arranging interviews or watching terrible movies. In long term while waiting for a senshi or civilian to trip one of her traps, following a target and gathering every piece of information she could, or sitting down and building a complicated gizmo for her hunts. Patience was required in all these things, and she was more than capable of it when she needed to be.

But for something like this? When she knew she was about to show off and bask in her own cool new promotion? It seemed impossible to wait even five minutes. She wanted to burst out of her skin, the anticipation building up and making her grin at nothing.

Then Fluorite showed up, and Painite looked toward the feeling of another powered up being coming toward her. Since she had never seen a senshi patrolling this area, and it was one of her favorites to slink around in so she was sure she would know, she immediately assumed it was the Lieutenant. And she was right.

At her reaction, Painite let out a laugh and posed, all but radiating pride and joy.

"Hey! Good to see you! You okay? It sounds like your choking on awesome. Ready for a lesson?"

There was a little more coughing before Fluorite was finally done with it. Yeah, this ? Not expected. At all.

"Holy s**t, congrats ! When did that happen ?" Apparently the lesson would have to wait until Fluorite got all the juicy details. Her drink was more or less left forgotten in her hand for the time being.

Painite laughed.

"They saw how awesome I was and gave me a boost, to get even more awesome!" She wanted to say 'awesomer' but it rang wrong in her head and she edited as she spoke. She grinned though, posing a bit more then shaking her head and her hands to change the subject a bit.

"But it's alright, I'm still pretty much the same. Except now instead of Mr. Saddles, my hobby horse, I have this awesome javelin staff thing." She held it out for Fluorite to see, the long weapon looking impressive despite its simplicity. A small tuft of Mr. Saddles' hair remained on the staff. A reminder of what it once was.

"Anyway, we're here to do some work, huh? How have you been doing? How are you getting on? I mean, getting your bearings with all the work and senshi fight risks?" She was honestly interested in the progress of the Lieutenant, not just to make sure she was staying safe, but because she loved seeing others getting better, almost as much as she liked doing it herself.

The Negaverse was one whole unit, and each of their strength served each other, as well. Plus, bragging was fun.

Fluorite couldn't help but be a little envious of Painite's new weapon as it was finally unveiled. Now -that- looked like it could do something ! Unlike her own 'weapon'. She really wasn't sure what good it was supposed to be beyond trying to play one-card-pickup with senshi.

Sigh.

The Captain's questions required some thinking, though. "I've been... doing okay. Mostly." Slowly, she was settling in some sort of normality again. Sleeping more then the few hours there-and-there she'd had in the mad rush to find the missing agents had certainly helped. Good thing she could more or less run on 4 hours of sleep.

"I've been lucky with senshi, managing to avoid them for the most part... the only one I fought one on one.... Well, I managed to outrun her." Which told much of her lack of success in fighting her in the first place.

Painite listened, smiling. She was glad that Fluorite was getting into the flow of things, though there was something in the younger girl's eyes that betrayed some fatigue. Understandable, considering the lives they lived, and how much of it collided with their two identities.

She sometimes got very little sleep, between hunting and work the next day.

"Don't worry, you'll get used to it! Senshi too. Though, out running them isn't always possible. Some of those suckers are like rabbits, I'll tell you," she shook her head. She wasn't fond of running away from fights these days, though she was certainly used to it. In her experience, when traps failed she had to get out of there. Especially when she had a hobby horse to protect herself with.

She understood completely how that felt.

"Well, I think we'll work on helping you defend yourself a bit, then, okay? You can use whatever's around you. I find it best to take stock of the area I'm in at all times, just in case. What I can climb on, where I can go, what I can grab or push or hide behind. Anything that might be useful in a fight, or might catch a senshi off guard."

She smiled, gripping her javelin.

"They usually have their magic, but since I don't have any, the Spirit of Mr. Saddles will have to do. You ready?"

The advantages that Fluorite had there was that she could easily hide in places which would have been impossible for most to hide in, or even reach. It would make hiding easier, at the very least.

Though... she wouldn't always been able to do that. "Still better than what I've got." And it was then, finally, that she revealed her own weapon - a playing card, patterned in black and purple, took form in her hand as she slid into the battle stance Mica had shown her. Fluorite did consider herself up s**t's creek without a paddle, weapon-wise - what was she supposed to do with one card ?

Really.

She nodded to Painite. "Ready."

Painite looked at the weapon. She had seen cards before, but at least then it had been... plural. One little card was, in fact, much worse than a stuffed horse head on a stick had been, she was sure of that. For all the times she had thought her weapon useless, at least it could do more than a paper cut.

Despite the thrill she got at challenges and thinking things out, she was glad she hadn't been faced with that as her first weapon. She wasn't sure she could think up anything to do with it, really.

"Oh..." she said, tilting her head. "Uh. Okay. Hey! That's not so bad. We'll just... work with what we have," she beamed, at least always perky and supportive.

She was standing languidly, not having changed from conversation mode into fight mode yet. Or she had, but she wanted the element of surprise. She swung her javelin suddenly, gripping it tightly as she swung the staff at the Lieutenant in a straightforward, head on attack.

"Hey, I know." Fluorite shrugged. "Trust me, I didn't pick this." No one in their right minds would have. Fluorite was convinced of this. There was challenge, and then there was wanting to die.

The girl was quite certain that her weapon counted as the latter.

The element of surprise worked well enough - Fluorite hadn't guessed that Painite would transition from talking to fighting that quickly. She took the hit before she could really react, and stumbled back a bit, more out of surprise than actual pain. They weren't aiming to harm each other, after all - it was just training. If they accidentally harmed each other while training, well... It would be a little counter-productive.

Fluorite charged then, choosing for forgo her weapon completely and try to hit the captain's midsection.

Painite nodded her head. Poor thing. She thought she had gotten the short straw when she had been given Mr. Saddles, at least at first before she had been able to come up with creative uses for it. But a single card? Not even a deck of them? That was fairly depressing, she had to say.

Hopefully, they would be able to figure out a good way to fight with it. Or at least see if there was a way to work around it. With her Javelin in hand, Painite felt invulnerable, though she knew that was a false sense of security. Maybe when Fluorite made it to Captain, as she already had little doubt that the young Nega would make it that far and beyond, she'd get a surprising gift like the Spirit of Mr. Saddles had become.

Gripping the center of the javelin, where the reign was wrapped for just that purpose, she made sure to keep her attacks light but purposeful. Bruises and small cuts were fine, but she wasn't aiming to do any serious damage. And she wasn't looking to take any, either, which she bore in mind as well.

"That's it!" She said, seeing Fluorite go for a punch. She tied to side step but still got hit, her voice a bit higher for it. "Physical strength is key: but you can always lie! Pretend your card does more than they know. Distraction, huh?" She grinned at that.

Not that it would be useful in a situation like now, when she already knew the card was just a card. She pulled her javelin around, swinging at the lieutenant again, but this time trying to sweep her feet out from under her.

Yes ! A hit ! Fluorite was definitively proud of herself for it - maybe a little to proud, in fact. She got more daring, which in turn left her more open for attack.

She wasn't hitting hard - some of it was purposeful, but it was completely obvious that the petite girl would never be a hard-hitter. She was surprisingly good at darting about, though, weaving herself around Painite's longer weapon almost as if it was some sort of dance.

She twirled around it, then rose her feet to hit her midsection again. She hadn't tried to kick anyone while wearing footwraps, and it proved to be a bad idea - she hit just fine, sure, but she lost balance, sending the young lieutenant eeping and thumbing on the floor.

Superb battle tactic there, Fluorite.

Painite saw that flush of pride on Fluorite's face and her own split into a grin. She was all too familiar with that rush, that thrill, landing a hit and wanting to do more. She was driven by her need to constantly out do herself, though her instincts told her to make a show of it more often than not. Just so everyone was as aware of her triumph as she was.

No harm in that, so long as it didn't cost her the fight (which it sometimes did, but she told herself she was learning from that).

"You're pretty fast!" Painite said with a panted laugh, surprised by how quick the little sprite seemed to be. A definite advantage for Fluorite, if she trained it and used it as a lead in her fighting style. Speed could kill, and could be even more dangerous than brute strength when used right. Couple it with smarts, and she'd be dangerous even without the use of an actual weapon. The boosts from the Negaverse might have compensated for that.

Stumbling back from the kick, she looked on in surprise as Fluorite toppled over. She surged forward to take advantage of it, bringing her staff around and pointing it at Fluo's neck.

"You took yourself out!" She said, sounding a bit puffed, shaking her head and smiling. Stepping back, she offered Fluo her hand to help her up. "So. Your speed, I think, is one of your best assets. Your fast and so damn small. Sometimes the best offense is a good defense, right? You work on your footwork, and I think you've got something going for you. If your opponent gets all into fighting, swinging and missing, you'll have chances for your own attacks. Make them count, go for the vital parts and don't waste your time landing blows that won't disable or stun. What do you think? Want to try it?"
PostPosted: Sat Apr 30, 2011 3:27 pm

"Ow." Was the first thing that came out of Fluorite's mouth. Not because of the staff that was now pointed right at her throat - it wasn't touching her - but because pavement was not something nice to land on. If Painite had been a senshi, though... Well, she probably would be dead right now, not bemoaning her landing spot.

She accepted the helping hand and worked herself back on her feet, going for her drink while the captain passed her verdict. She was hurting, but she did her best to ignore it. They weren't done tonight, not yet, and she wasn't bout to just give up !

Well, she had been going out gun a blazing, for the most part. And it hadn't done much for her yet. Maybe Painite had a point ? Though, she wasn't quite certain what a good blow really was."Where should I be thinking about hitting, then ? Stomach ?"

Poor, poor, clueless Fluorite.

Painite couldn't blame her, exactly, for not knowing where to strike. She hadn't exactly been knowledgeable about it before her run in with Hiro, and now she was passing what she had learned from him to her. But wasn't that a good thing to do with training? Passing on knowledge, and making the whole unit, the Negaverse, stronger for it?

She thought so.

"Stomach is good to stun them," she said with a nod, "can be painful and knock the wind out of them. But if you want to cripple someone, you hit them where it really hurts. The neck, cut off their breathing, the kidneys, incredibly painful, the chest plate. Breaking a nose can distract them with the blood on their face. Kicking out knees will bring someone down for a moment. Anything that you can do to give yourself another chance to attack, keeping them off their guard and at your command in a fight."

She liked the sound of what she was saying, nodding her head as she spoke, as if her inner monologue was agreeing with the outer one. She held up her staff again, this time giving a bit of warning that she would attack again.

"Let's see if you can hit me. Don't worry about holding back. Can't learn unless you really go after it, right?"
