[rant]I know I'm in a house of mixed reviews around here, but hear me out...

so, I'm taking an English elective class entitled Special Topics/Monsters in Literature. We have about 2 more weeks left in the semester and it is time for us to do final projects. for the topic I have chosen (comparing vampires in different texts and media) I have to read Twilight (at least the first two books) AND watch the movies, among other novels and films. I just finished reading the first chapter and I am damn near ready to vomit and tear my hair out. I'm sorry to those who like the books, but its just..AAAAHHHHGG!!!!
scream gonk scream
I mean, who has thought processes like this? REALLY? This Bella character has to be the biggest waste of neurons ever conceived. The girl is BORING!!! And I don't mean the interesting boring either, I mean the go-blindfold-yourself-and-swan-dive-headfirst-off-an-overpass-into-oncoming traffic-because-you-suck-that-bad boring!

after reading this first chapter, I have decided that I am not going to subject myself to more self mutilation than need be and I am going to download the audio book.

after this project is done, I am going to sue Stephenie Meyer...

that is all...

I'm no expert in novels, but usually I give it until chapter 4. If it doesn't have my interest, then I'm out. For Twilight, it's just a right-off no. I'm sorry. I was forced to watch the movie with a rabid fangirl of the series and hated it ever since. I didn;t hate it because of the fangirls, but the shear lack of plot, bad movie structure, character failure, concept failure (Someone did not read about the vampire myths that hold the true essence of what a vampire is).

But hey. If you get to turn this around and do the essay on how the series failed so much AFTER you legitimately looked through the books, then props. You have my respect. For example, you could very well write about the obvious differences between the species and how they should not have the same name... It's like calling a fox a bulldog. Different build, different look, both canines...

1st off, I'd rather watch the movie than read the book-- The movie isn't as torturing since it's limited by actual time, not your reading speed.

Secondly, Twilight isn't horribly awful, maybe to people who admire the traditional vampires to the point of over-infatuation. I'd rather read Cirque du Freak. It's wayyyy better than Twilight. I was so interested in the series, I read the first 9 books in a week.

Third, Why do you have to do TWILIGHT of all things?

yup...except in the rare cases xd

but I chose to include Twilight in this project because, despite all the holes academics have shot in it, we can't deny that it has had an impact on popular culture. Plus, one of my professors wrote a book of literary criticism on it which will probably get me some kind of extra credit. 3nodding

Twilight is one of those books that split our society in half. You either love it to death or hate it to hell.

I like it. True, there was a major stall in Eclipse, but the non stop action and drama of Breaking Dawn more than made up for it.

I've only seen part of one of the Twilight movies and I gotta say... that Bella character annoyed the hell outta me with her freaking whining of 'having to leave immediately'.

I read all four books and Ive seen the first movie, my opinion:

movies: XP
Book: eh :/

I thing that got me was yes indeed Bella. Now I myself like vampires and I believe that tossing humans into the mix makes it interesting depending on the genre, personality and the tone given of the book. Bella, flat,a bit moody and honestly come on, fall for he for the first guy you see gonk I like some of the characters : Alice, Emmit, Jasper, etc. Now, I have serious twilight addict friends and unfortunatley I am called the Rosalie of the group (Dont ask) and god only knows what would happen if they saw this >.< Point made, ya the books arent that great but audio might be worse XD Perhaps spark notes may be of use xd ?

I personally liked 2 of the 3 movies. I really liked the third one because of the action but the first one was a 3 on a scale of 1-10 and the second was a 7 because I like Werewolves more then I like Vampires. Bella is boring to me and I find it crazy Edward was so in love with her. I have never read the books but I can assume Bella is a lot more boring in them then she is in the movies.

BD had action and drama?! Were we reading the same book?

On the movie topic, yeah the third was decent action-wise. Though Edward's face being stretched over an imax screen looked hilarious.

XD I read twilight just because all of my girlfriends were talking about it all the time so I got the first to read just for the heck of it and when my roommate saw me with it she was like "Ugh! I hate Twilight" so I got all of them and read them just to annoy her XD

It's just okay, I just don't see how it got so popular.

Probably my favorite vampire book out is The Reformed Vampire Society.
