i felt like this was an appropriate place to talk about my hair.

my hair is seriously at the healthiest it has been in a very long time right now. my waves are forming perfectly, i have next to no fly-aways, my hair is soooooo shiny and soft. the best thing about it? i follow the simplest routine EVER.
i follow this method, but my routine is way simpler while conforming to the basics of this.

i never shampoo my hair. everevereverever. i gave that up a year or so ago.
i condition my hair with Suave Naturals Coconut Conditioner every second day at very least and only if I'm lazy. i normally go for everyday.
i put my hair up in a cotton t-shirt to help tame frizz.
30 MINUTES LATER.
hair comes out, i spray in pure coconut oil and detangling spray, then scrunch that in. next i put some mousse in my hair to give my waves some extra hold, and i scrunch that in as well.
blowdry/straighten my bangs and leave the rest of my hair to air dry.

also, another thing i never do is brush my hair aside from my bangs or my entire head of hair in the shower with conditioner in it with a wide toothed comb.

people ask me all the time at school what i do to my hair to keep it in such good condition and i tell them exactly that and they are all like EWWWW YOU DON'T USE SHAMPOO?
uh, yeah b***h. you honestly don't need it.

now if you don't condition your hair in one way or another (especially if you have wavy/curly hair), than you're doing it wrong and i hate you.

I've heard of this no-poo routine!
I'm so happy it's working for you man. <3
I've been really curious about trying it as well, but the thing is, my hair get's massive oily dude -- not a fan!
I've extended my wash time though, from every other day to every three days.
This is partly because I don't really wear my bangs down any more, and I have a different part in my hair pretty often!
Did you have a grease issue? Does this routine do anything for it at all? :3

i remember mentioning that i didn't shampoo my hair on like nexopia or something in grade 8 and everybody was like ew, then you're not washing the dirt and grease out of your hair.
and i was like, "my hair doesn't get greasy and i don't lie in dirt so idk why it would be dirty..."

yeeeeah i want to try it, but meeeeeh

Si! I had a grease issue before I started the CG method, and it was resolved with it. My scalp was dry because I was using shampoo.

shampoo vs. dishsoap.

As you can see, both the shampoo and dishsoap contain Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS). It's in dishsoap because it is a faaaantastic grease cutter, but it's also very harsh on your scalp + hair, which can cause them both to dry out. When you use SLS shampoos on your hair, you are removing all of the natural oils that would condition your hair (but they don't condition enough by themselves), leaving it dry and brittle. When you wash with just conditioner, it removes just enough oils for your hair to still have the barrier of natural protection.

Long story short, when your skin/scalp is dry, it will produce more oils to try and replenish the moisture itself, which generally leads to more washing. Hence, and endless cycle. Once you get rid of the SLS and moisturize with conditioner, your scalp will produce less oils. Honestly, it takes 5+ days for my hair to even get a hint of grease now. Before when I used shampoo, it took as little as one day.

But, despite all that, you could still just have a naturally oily scalp, in which case there isn't much you can do about it.

Did you let your hair adjust? It can take 2 - 6 weeks on average for your hair/scalp to adjust to the new routine. Also, were you using products (conditioners, mousse, any styling products, oils, etc) that only had water soluble silicones? You haaaave to use water soluble silicones or else you'll have to use an SLS shampoo to get rid of them because only water won't wash them out.

Wow, thanks so much for the info. <3
I'm going to try this when I have a few weeks off from school!
Right now I just use organic shampoo and it doesn't have any harsh chemicals, and it's only a few ingredients -- same with the conditioner.
It's helped my scalp A LOT.
I can only imagine what it'd be like without any shampoo.
5+ days of no grease sounds like HEAVEN to me!
I hate styling my hair, that's the part that bums me out most about having to wash my hair so often due to grease. XD
It just takes so damn long and I'm so picky.

I don't use shampoo or conditioner, and haven't for three months. My curls have become a lot more manageable since doing so.

I'm gonna ******** it all up today when I get my hair cut though. D: Japan ALWAYS shampoos your hair when you get it cut. They shampoo it first, cut it, then water-wash it to get all the clippings out.

Here's the thread incase you wanna see more.

I honestly think that you should condition your hair with a silicone free conditioner. It would probably do you a lot of good, because you hair is p. frizzy

It doesn't really matter as long as there aren't any semi water-soluble silicones or non water-soluble silicones. You have to stick to the water-soluble ones. You go with what your hair/scalp needs and wants. Just remember that when you start this, you might have to move from a heavier conditioner to a lighter one because over conditioning can cause frizz and fluff.

The link I posted tells which silicones are okay and the ones that aren't.

I want to start doing this over the summer. That way, when I start out and may hair is awkwardly greasy for a while, no one will have to know!

Oh yeah but I definitely don't plan on using conditioner. I basically only started using it recently and it really doesn't do anything for me.

too long to quote
If you can find me what the ******** a silicone free conditioner is in Japanese, I'd be happy to use one. I wouldn't even know where to ******** look in my dictionary to figure out how to say that.

And actually, both of those pictures were taken since I stopped using conditioner and shampoo. Compared to a year ago, my curls have actually become a lot more manageable.

Also, I have no time in the morning to sit around with a shirt wrapped on my head. I have a microfiber shower cap I use.

Double also, I finally like my curls after 20+ years of hating them. I don't care if my hair doesn't look like those pictures you posted. I finally found a way for me to manage my curls and I'm happy with it.

I wouldn't even know what brands are safe in that respect. But I only have body to my hair, no curls.

yeah i gave up after just one week redface it was just too gross and i didn't want to go to school looking so bad. it was really awful looking, and it didn't feel so great, either. but i'm going to give it another shot. i think i'm on day four now without shampoo so here we gooo.

i looked at my conditioner, and it has something called behentrimonium methosulfate, which apparently is quite good. it's from a company called organix if anyone's interested. i have the shea butter conditioner. it's niiice :) i wanna get the pomegranate green tea one next~

I'm sort of tempted to try this, but idk I feel like my curls are more wild then your so I dunno if it would yield the same results.

Yeah I haven't used shampoo for a long time either, I use it maybe one every few months but yeah it usually leaves my hair feeling gross.
