It was a good day after the late night Horse incident, but classes had been a nice distraction from his worries. Even so, doodles riddled with speed lines had filled Christof's notebooks. By the time he got back to his dorm, the bag of seeds his Mistress had given him sat ominously on his desk- well. He supposed... there really was no more procrastinating. Just... complete the task given. Yes. And... he didn't have to go alone, right? Surely his... his friend would want to come with? It would make the journey more... fun.

It was an odd concept that made his head hurt, but he pocketed the seeds and tucked his small pocket notebook away to make his way to the Monster Dorms. He was still feeling awkward as he shifted in front of Calder's door, face flushed as he finally raised his hand to politely knock.

While last night had been refreshing and excillerating, Calder had been plan whooped when it was time to get ready for class in the morning. It was, under the cover of one of the large books his parents sent him, that Calder had napped through all of his classes. He almost got detention for almost getting caught, but he felt a lot of the staff was exhausted along with the students after the island incident. It at least gave him a bit of leeway for a nap.

Come time class was over, Calder went to his room, dumped his things on the floor, and resumed his napping. He was rather refreshed when he heard a knock on his door, and yawning, perked up before heaving himself to his hooves and moving to the stable doors that made the entrance to his dorm. Mid-yawn, he opened it to see...

"Christof?" He said, rather surprised but quickly thrilled. HAH! He knew Christof would come! HE KNEW IT! He wouldn't just leave him for work.

"Hi! I...haven't seen you around." LIE! ALL LIES!

Calder's not-so-smooth cover up was replied by a glare and a scowl. He wasn't *stupid*, no matter what the Kelpie might have thought. No matter, let him play at whatever game he wanted for now, there were more important matters to attend to.

Clearing his throat, Christof timidly reached into his vest pocket, pulling out his notebook to scribble out:

Would you like to go to Maul w/ me?

He held it out for him to see, brows knit pleadingly.

Calder was feeling oh-so-clever that he was maintaining a double life, and smiled at the idea that he was going to get away with possibly having a rider without having anyone know it was him. It was the perfect arrangement...aside from figuring out how to get Christof to visit the white horse more often and at some scheduled time and point. Not something that worked out well when you couldn't talk.

That matter aside, Calder looked as a note was given to him and beamed. "YES! I've love to go! I've been stuck on campus forever, and I can finally step off grounds without having the hellfire of Hellma come down on me." With his punishment lifted, all the privileges that some students took for granted were given back to him. He'd be getting his leeches from Malodore at some point, and he was already working on filling up his pond and bathtub with fresh water. Life was getting good again.

Turning about, Calder went to shove books aside and also the patchwork doll before finding a small, leather bag. Putting that in his sporran, he grabbed his jacket and went over. "Whatcha want to do at the maul?" He asked as he shut and locked his door.

Christof scribbled in his notebook again, Have things to buy, before pulling otu the large bag from Riley, flushing hotly as though embarrassed to have so much. It would be a bit of a walk, he realized, and for a moment wondered if the Kelpie wanted to help... speed things along. But for some reason Calder seemed intent on pretending he had no idea about that night, so the hunchback was ready to play along.

If it had just been Christof wanting to buy something, Calder would have been more excited, but the clearly feminine seedpurse was something that said this was an errand. "Oh, well, we can at least have some fun." He said, always the hopeful sort and up for making another one of Christof's errands more entertaining. "I'll see if I need anything." He wasn't rich and didn't have nearly as much as that purse had, but he could possibly get a snack, maybe even a book, or whatever thing he might want. Having spent a while in his room, he managed to save up a bit, and he thought that treating out Christof to a treat at the foodsnort might be a nice way to end the day.

"So what things do you have to buy for Noodle Head?"

Noodle head? His expression furrowed darkly as he glanced sideways at the Kelpie as they walked, his jaw setting in a threatening manner. Just for that remark, Christof was happy to keep his friend in the dark.

At least, judging by only his usual limp, he had reattached his ankle before they had departed. With a snort, he shoved the bag back into his pocket, rearranging his scarf before lurching a bit faster with an indignant expression.

Oops. Touchy-Touchy. Calder forgot about insulting Riley when hard-up-on-mistress was around. Following after the Igor, Calder went to catch up. It wasn't hard when he was both faster and he hadn't hurt his leg. "Oh come on! I was just kidding." The Igor didn't seem to think it very funny, clearly, and Calder sighed. "I'm sorry. Okay?"

Christof merely sighed, rolling his eyes before thumbing to a fresh page of his notebook, having to pause his walking to concentrate as he wrote, eyes squinting at the paper as he did so.

Mistress kind enough to gift me money for this. Not acceptable to mock her after her kindness.

It was a dumb idea, he figured, but... ultimately he hoped both Calder and Barth alike would be appreciative of his feeble gesture. Note written, he resumed his walking, offering it out to his friend wearily.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 12, 2011 5:58 pm

Taking the note, he read it over and let out a little "oh." There was nothing more said about the matter. While he would have loved to suggest that Christof could go ask other people for money, he knew that asking Barth would only result in a contract. While Barth would have loved that, Calder was starting to feel more and more that maybe some time without a contract and with just simple friendship would be just fine. At least in-between contracts so that they KNEW it was possible to be friends without it.

On the same note, Calder would have loved to say he could come to him for money, but Calder wasn't rich. His family was poor, making their own food, primarily getting all theirs clothes and things through bartering and trading, and needing very little in life. They sent him money for things he might need and even might want, but it wasn't a lot and he sometimes felt guilty spending it. When it came to buying Christof his Scarentine's outfit, he had to ask Barth for cash and get into a contract. Telling Christof that taking seeds from Riley wasn't smart would just be hypocritical.

On that thought, the walked to the Maul with Christof was done in relative silence. Not anything too strange since Christof was used to not talking, and it was a nice, groomy day out.

Then, Calder thought of a random thought. "If you were rich, what would you buy?" He looked to his friend. "Don't think too hard about it or the consequences."

Christof slowed his lurch, brows furrowing as he considered the question. What... would he buy? The concept confused him. What did he need to- that train of thought was cut short by Calder's follow up point.

Ah. A musing game.

Expression softening slightly, he... considered it. Finally, he lifted a hand, moving it forward while making a "Hbrrrrrrrmmmmm!" noise he felt sounded like a proper engine. It had been fun to go fast... but he knew there were things out there that could go faster than a kelpie. The concept made him morbidly fascinated.

While Calder had never ridden a motorcycle, he knew some young studs who owned their own. Since most kelpies were repulsed or uncomfortable with the idea of riding one of their own, riding a machine was the next best thing to having the chance to be the rider and not the ridden. They were fairly popular, but most clan elders frown against them. It didn't help that most places didn't have the roads for them, so most owners lived in their own herds outside of the main clans and were otherwise rejected by them. The ruffians and delinquents who turned their back to the old ways.

Calder had seen a few from older boils who had ridden around during clan meetings, showing off, before leaving shortly after the meetings were near done. Just enough to hear the news or just case a scene.

He'd been curious about them, but never rode one. His parents were against them. "A motorcycle? You want to have a motorcycle?!" He asked, wanting to make sure. It was such a ...un-igorish thing for Christof to think of, and Calder beamed at him. "That sounds great! I bet they are really fun! I only saw a few in my entire life. Never got a ride one, but they look really strange and make such loud noises." After they stopped hurting your ears, you got used to it. The riders said they purred, but Calder never met a cat that purred like that!

Christof shrugged, not really knowing what he was describing, but if that's what the Kelpie thought the gesture had meant... a... motor... cycle...? It sounded intriguing.

With conversation popping back and forth in similar disjointed ways, pausing only for Christof to scribble things down now and then, they eventually made it to the path that lead to the Maul entrance.

The first time Chris had come here, it had been on his own- Calder was still "grounded", and he couldn't find anyone else to go with him. Armed with a companion it seemed a lot less threatening. There was a market he sometimes would go to back in his home town, normally running an errand for his Creator, but that hadn't been anything like the more "modern" place the two found themselves in.

Not wanting to be distracted by the countless sights and sounds and smells, he immediately made a B-line for the store map, scanning for his target.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 12, 2011 7:12 pm

Having been to a few small stores with his father, Calder usually wouldn't be phased. He had, upon arriving in Amityville, gone to the Maul on his own for the first time and had been left gaping for more than an hour, completely lost and loving it. Being here now, he wasn't any less amazed, and there were still plenty of stores he never once saw or stepped into. He needed to go tot he Maul more often just to get used to it, let alone know all the things it had to offer.

He never once used the store map, and was left several feet away from the Igor, looking around and staring at the lights and letting his ears move about, working overtime as they caught sounds of sneakers on linoleum, the rustle of shopping bags, and the beeping of registers echoing into the open plaza. A violin jingle of some sort, eerie and yowling, was playing from the overhead speakers to set a pleasant mood.

"They make really big buildings now." He whispered to no one in particular, as if a store more than 2 stories tall was only a recent advancement. Calder's head kept tilting up and up and up until he was staring straight at the ceiling.

Christof gave only a distracted grunt, set on his mission and grabbed Calder's arm to pull him through the throng of people towards their goal. It... SHOULD just be down this way on the next level.

There were steps... but then there were MOVING steps. He was certain Barth would have approved. He settled for the normal stairs, dragging the kelpie behind him before he could get too distracted.
