This noon when the sun was at it's peek in the sky, a young Kelpi foal was attempting to douse her scaly tail in the cool tides. "Why is it so hot? Why is the sun trying to cook me alive?" she whined unpleasantly. She used her little tail to flick water up onto the spiny fins along her back, feeling as though they were turning to leather in the heat of day. "Why Sun!? Why?!" she shouted up at the sky, scolding the bright circle that hung almost directly over her. It was loud enough to scatter a few crabs off the barnacle covered rocks that she was nestled between on the beach.

The hot, noon sun was even getting to the sturdy grasses sparsely studding the beach dunes and the parched blades crackled beneath the hooves of another foal. Deanneth Chamberland glanced back over his shoulder, he knew he should wander too far from his family, but it was just so hot! He’d just take a quick dip in the cool water and be back before anyone realized he was gone… Just as he was nearing the water’s edge, he heard a shout from nearby that almost made him jump out of his skin in fright. He looked around nervously, but whoever it was didn’t seem to be talking to him. He debated with himself for a moment for a moment, his ears swiveling uncertainly, before he called out, “H-hello?” His lightly accented voice was soft and tentative.

The instant that young Lady Luck had heard the soft and hesitant voice of another she perked her head up with excitement, locking her eyes on the stranger. "Oh! A friend!" she shouted just out of pure eagerness before scrambling to her feet. She winced and hissed softly at the hot sand that burned her hooves as she made her way over to him, "Hello there, friend! Have you come to play with me?" she had nothing but sweetness and happiness laced on her voice. Her eyes studied the young foal from head to hoof but her eyes got locked onto the dark ghostly apparition around his front legs. "What's wrong with your feet?" she raised her eyebrows with interest. The words weren't all to polite but she didn't mean any harm by them.

Dean’s eyes widened in surprise as a filly appeared from between the rocks and he immediately backed up a step from the excited stranger. Had she just called him a friend? But he didn’t know her. How very odd… “I-I suppose I could play.” He started to say before she made the comment about his hooves. Unfortunately, he misinterpreted the friendly comment as a dig about his looks. “Hey, there’s nothing wrong with my feet!” He stamped one of said, smoky hooves indignantly in the hot sand before locking his legs and frowning defensively as he looked the bizarre girl up and down. She didn’t have any right talk when she had a tail like that… He'd never seen a kelpi before and he found himself staring at the spiny, fin-adorned appendage. He didn't think it was ugly at all, but he wondered what it could possibly be for.

As she eyed his feet Lucky leaned in closer, closer, and even more closer until she was crouched in a sort of way that brought her face near his smoking hooves. "But they're all... Oooo" she chimed as though she was more fascinated than appalled. She was captivated by them up until the point where he stomped down and got a bit of sand in her eyes from the impact on the grains. "Ugh! My EYES!" she whimpered loudly and began to spin in a circle, stumbling around like a fool as she tried to blink out the painful grains. Her tear ducts began working up a good deal of salty fluids to try and wash out the invading rocks in her eyes. Unfortunately, all that moving around while having her eyes closed didn't do much good for her because she stubbed her hoof on a planted rock in the sand and fell face first into a little dune.

As the strange filly leaned in to get a better look at his hooves, Dean realized that maybe she hadn’t been trying to be mean, she just seemed enthralled. Maybe she liked his hooves? He didn’t have time to ponder this as his stamping seemed to have thrown sand in her face. He immediately felt terrible. As she howled and stumbled around and tried to blink the sand from her eyes, he trotted in a nervous, apologetic circle around her, probably being more of a hindrance than a help. He felt horrible and his voice raised in pitch as he stumbled over his words, “Oh! Oh my goodness! I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean-“ He broke off, horrified as she faceplanted in the dune.
He trotted over and shifted awkwardly on his hooves for a moment before giving her shoulder a gentle nudge. “A-are you alright?”

The young filly remained with her face in the sand, just stunned from the impact of everything. At least the aching in her face was distracting her from the sand in her eyes now. As the little colt nudged her shoulder she lifted her head, sand in her hair and in her nose. She huffed just to get a good deal of the grains out of her nostrils before looking up at him with red irritated eyes, though they were nothing but happy, oddly enough. Happy for the fact that he cared enough to ask if she was okay. "Oh, yes... I'm fine," she spoke in a more calm and contained voice than before. Her eyes continued to blink rapidly though, as if there was still a grain left. "Do you see anything in my eyeballs?" she stood up a bit wobbily and came face to face with the young foal, pressing her forehead to his and looking him right in the eyes, but something caught her fancy. "Woah..." she simply said, as if caught off guard. "Your eyes are wicked cool!"

Dean’s ears were perked as he watched her lift her head. His hooves shifted uncertainly as she wobbled to her feet; he really wanted to help in some way, but didn’t know how to without making things worse. As she found her legs and asked about her eyes, he leaned closer to get a better look, “No, they’re just really red…” He was caught off guard as she suddenly pressed her face to his and he stiffened, not used to having his personal space invaded like that. “What are you-?” He started to protest, but stopped and blinked at her. “I… you really think so?” He didn’t move from that position with his forehead against hers, he just stared into her wide blue eyes in surprise; his pale violet eyes actually some of the more normal ones in his family.

Lady Luck gave a subtle nod of her head, which in turn caused his head to be bobbed up and down since they were sort of joined at the forehead in this moment. "Yes, yes! They're so odd!" she spoke with a sweet little coo at the end as if still being affected by the wonderment of it all. She continued to stare deeply, as if studying every aspect of those orbs of his. "I wish my eyes were cool like yours are..." she did some wishful thinking out loud, not coming to realize how bold she was being. Then again, she never really did. Rarely did this filly think before she spoke or acted. "If I could I would definitely steal them from you and add them to my collection of other pretty things. OH! Would you like to see my stuff?!" she perked up all over again and bounced back, finally giving him his personal space back.

Dean chuckled a little; at least the strange filly was amusing. The small laugh had a similar effect to her nod, bobbling both of their heads a little. “They’re not really so strange… It’s not like they glow or anything.” He stared back at her, happy to let her get a good look; he’d never been complimented on his eyes before. He smiled a little, starting to get used to her odd manner. “I think you have very pretty eyes.” When she pulled away, he grinned and nodded at her tail, “Besides, you’ve got a really cool tail! I’ve never seen one like that…” He stepped around her to get a better look at it. When the last bit of what she’d said registered to him, his head snapped back up and he gave her the funniest look. “Sure... Wait! Did you just say you wanna steal my eyes?” He laughed nervously, hoping she was only joking.

The young girl had a tendency to blow things way out of proportion so when she registered the compliment of her blue eyes she gasped and bounced on her hooves excitedly. "You really think so?!" she beamed proudly and fluttered her eyelashes. That was just the beginning of the compliment and soon he was moving to her tail, eying it with interest. "Thank you! It makes me go ZOOM~ in the water," she did the sound affect with much enthusiasm and giggled. "Heh, yes yes, because you need them to see, silly!" she smiled brightly at the boy before nipping at his mane, giving a slight tug. "Follow me!" she ordered and began to literally bounce along the beach, moving her way towards her secret stash. They arrived at the rockiest part of the beach, and lead Deanneth between huge boulders that hid her doodads well. "Here they are!" she nosed around the oddly shaped drift wood and pretty rocks and shells. "Do you like?" she asked excitedly but already expected him to say yes.

The filly’s excitement was infectious and Dean nodded enthusiastically as he followed her. “I wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t true!” He wiggled his nose as he tried to remember a story… “Your eyes remind me of this story my dad told me once about a princess with blue eyes. I don’t remember how it goes though…” He eyed her tail as they scrambled over the rocks (he wasn’t nearly as good at traversing them as she was), he’d seen tails like that on fish, but never on a horse! “My tail’s just good for swatting at flies.” Speaking of flies… he swished at one buzzing nearby.
As they walked, he rambled on happily, “You know, if you like my eyes, you should see my brother and sister’s. He has glowing purple eyes and hers glow blue.” He smiled and watched the water as they trotted until they reached her super secret stash. His pale eyes widened as he looked at all her treasures. “Ooooh wow… This is so cool!” He nosed a pretty, bluish shell very gently. “Where did you find all these?”

Lady's tiny nose did a wiggle of his own just to mimic the boy because she found everything he said and did to be fascinating. She wanted to be just as cool as he was. "Oh? A story of a princess with blue eyes? Maybe I'm the princess your dad is talking about!" A light giggle came from the back of her throat as she joked around with him. "Pfff... No, I'm not a princess. I wish I was, but I'm just plain old Lucky!" A bright smile came over her lips as she lead him the rest of the way.
"Your brother and sister? Oh, that'd be so wicked sweet to see! You'll have to bring them here sometime," she happily sang out and eyed him as he finally laid his eyes upon her collection of beach rift raft. "It's just goodies I've collected around the beach! Aren't they beautiful?!" she was so excited she began to hop in place on her hooves like a dainty dancer. "Do you want one? Hmmm, lets see... which one for you?" she began nudging things around with her muzzle and searching. At last she picked up an iridescent shell that shimmered in the same hue as his eyes. "This one you can have! It's very special. It's one of the first ones I added to my treasure box." She placed it at his hooves and hoped he fancied it the same way she did.

“You really don’t have to…” Dean started to protest as she rummaged through her treasures, but he quickly fell silent as she placed the shiny shell at his feet. His eyes grew wide in wonder and he gently turned the shell over with his hooves to get a better look at it. “It’s beautiful… Are you sure?” He looked over at her and smiled, his little, fuzzy tail swishing happily from side to side. “Thank you so much, Lucky! My name is Deanneth, by the way, but you can call me Dean.” Suddenly, his ears pricked as a thought occurred to him and he reached back with his head to gently tug at one of the long, glossy white feathers tied into his tail. When it came free, he placed it at her multicolored hooves and grinned up at her, “This is for you.”

The young filly gave a snorted whiny as her twisted laughter. "Of course I'm sure, silly. Go ahead, it's all yours buddy!" She insisted by nudged the little shell on the sand towards his hooves all the more before standing up again and smiling brightly. As he examined the gift her eyes glued themselves to his expression, waiting to see how he would respond, and to her pleasant surprise he actually thanked her and offered up a name. "Deanneth! I like that name. It's different~" she sang the last phrase lightly in an enthusiastic voice. Her eyes focused on what he was pulling from behind him and when her eyes noticed the feather she gasped softly, "Oh! Dean... it's so pretty!" she quickly leaned down to retrieve it a little to quickly and conked heads with the colt. "Oomph... Oopsies," she let out a soft giggle before leaning down more slowly this time and taking the feather in her mouth wondering how she could tie it to herself.
