Glint lives and works with his grandparents at the daycare centre on Route 5 North, just outside Saffron City. He's been helping out at the daycare's hatchery since he learned to walk—first looking after the slugma that live under the egg hutches, then tending to the eggs themselves, and since he became a teenager, caring for freshly-hatched pokémon.
Glint was born at the daycare on the same day as a litter of growlithe. Most of them were sold off to happy homes, to help cover the cost of running the hatchery, but the runt of the pack and Glint grew close and everyone felt it wrong to tear them apart.
As a toddler learning to talk, Glint pronounced growlithe as 'gruff', and that became the pokémon's name. The two haven't spent a day apart in their whole lives, and nothing on heaven or earth could come between them.
Since turning twenty-one Glint has started to spend more time away from the daycare, transporting eggs between their owners and the hatchery. He doesn't like to admit it, but the more he travels, the more he enjoys it, and the more he wants to set out to see the world.
Nowadays most professional trainers in central Kanto know Glint by name and he has begun to earn himself a reputation as a top class breeder. As far as Glint's concerned, though, he's nothing more than a courier.

1st Pokémon: Gruff (Growlithe M)
Gruff is a quiet little growlithe who's usually rather timid. If he senses that Glint might be in danger, though, watch out--his personality shifts and he knows no fear. Gruff is always quick to help out around the hatchery, keeping eggs warm and soothing unsettled baby pokémon by playing with them and giving them rides around the garden on his back. Outside of the hatchery Gruff is rather sceptical about wild pokémon and is slow to make new friends. The more new pokémon he meets, however, the more comfortable he seems.
2nd Pokémon: Squirbert (Squirtle M)
Squirbert is stubborn, cocky and prone to accidents. His first encounter with Glint was with the man's face; Squirbert was rolling down the hill south of Cerulean when he bounced up and crashed into Glint. Since then Squirbert has realised that Glint can help him to get better when he has accidents, and perhaps help him to become a stronger pokémon too. And so, as far as Squirbert is concerned, he is using Glint--he is the master who gives the orders, and Glint is the pet who follows them.
3rd Pokémon: Coni (Oddish F)
Coni hatched prematurely and it was only thanks to Glint's quick thinking that she pulled through. Since it was feared she'd be too weak to be transported over the computer system, Glint took her by hand to her owner in Pewter City, but he refused to accept her. On the journey Coni grew close to Glint, and though he wouldn't admit it, Glint was glad when Mister Miyamoto wouldn't take her in. Now Glint has decided to treat her as though she is his pokémon. All he needs to do to confirm it is register her pokéball in his pokédex.
4th Pokémon: Cleffa Egg
The cleffa egg was given to Glint by Brock, who found it lying on a path on the way to Mount Moon. Unable to find its owner, since none the clefairy on Mount Moon had lost an egg, Glint returned it to Brock, but only a short while later it was back in his hands; because of his commitments as a gym leader, Brock saw Glint as the better person to look after and raise an egg into a baby pokémon. After first refusing to accept it, seeing Brock as the better breeder, Glint agreed to take it, figuring he could find its true owner before too long.
