Ugh.
Just. Ugh.
WHY WAS HE DOING THIS?! He was going crazy. He lost his mind. He was drunk. He stayed too long in the fog. He had been dead for too long. So many reasons and so many cop-outs, but not one of them clearly explained why he was standing in front of a particular pink haired Demoness' dorm room, dressed in a loose-fitting, sleeveless t-shirt, jeans and boots with a bag slung over his shoulder. Nor did it explain the way his hand, balled into a fist, hovered near the door.
No amounts of psyching was going to work; how many demons touched this door? How many slimey, nasty, two-faced Demons pressed their slime, nasty two-faced hands (yes there was such a thing) against it? After a moment or two of rather awkward shifting and a helluva lot of mental bellyaching, Mac knocked on the door; with his foot.
"Lizzy?" Dear Jack, let her be home. He didn't want to have made this entire trip for nothing!

She was still in her nightgown (it is comfortable, okay), with her hair pulled to the back and clipped up with a claw clip; she didn't make any plans for the day and had pretty much decided that it would be her time off to do her own stuff... Although it was quickly becoming boring. She laid her head on her arm, which was laid out on her desk, as she stared at her clock. As she started to day dream, however, her whole door shook, causing her to jump in her seat as she turned to face the door.
Were the gnomes invading her room and grabbing her wardrobe? She frowned, getting up from her chair as she inched her way towards the door, her hand on the doorknob. Its too bad her minipets were conveniently away or one of them could check for her... When an all too familiar voice came from the other side of it, however, her frown deepened.
Oh, maybe she had fallen asleep and this was all a dream - nightmare? There was no way he would be here willingly. Or maybe she was hallucinating...
"Mac?" She opened the door a crack, peeking out, still frowning as she stared up at him. She wasn't unhappy to see him, just surprised.
"Uh, if you're looking for Charlie's dorm, I think its that way. You'll need to take the stairs. Might want to ask a gnome for directions..." She pointed down the corridor, tilting her head as she blinked. he must be lost! That's the only reason she could think of at the moment.

"Don't be stupid, I know where his room is." Mac frowned, his brow twitching a bit at the audacity this female had. Why did he get to upset over her dying, again? "You don't look busy." He observed, slipping his hand into his pant pocket while taking in the look of her nightgown and the way she had clipped her hair back; if she wasn't a demon, it might have been very pretty and a little...exciting. But, sadly, all he could see was a Demoness who couldn't swim, fainted, and died in fire.
"Go put your bathing suit on and grab a towel, maybe an extra set of clothes." It wasn't a request and it wasn't quite an outright demand; it was more like he was taking control of the situation rather than forcing it to go one way over the other.
"You're going to learn how to swim today."

"Buttttt-" She frowned at the words 'stupid', and then at the way he asked her to grab stuff before finally pouting at the word 'swim'. She had been thinking of learning to swim, but right now? She wasn't prepared for this at all! She didn't have a bathing suit- okay, that was a lie. She did get a bathing suit for the boat ride, just in case they needed it, but... Swimming? Now? It was too sudden!
"Macccccc," She was whining now, and for once, wished that Rosenthal was around to tackle his face so she could change the topic. Frowning, she sighed, opening the door fully as she leaned against the wall at the side, "But why?" Or rather, why now.

"No buts." Mac said with every stern tone of a parent to a child. She was going to be difficult about this, he could tell already; but when wasn't she being difficult? When she was sleeping, maybe? Even then... Not that he wanted to find out. Ever.
"Lizzyyyyyyy." He matched her whine with one of his, if only to show how irritating it could be; if he knew she wanted his face mauled, he'd've made more of a point to drag her out to the lake as-is. As it stood he was still trying to be fairly civil, and it was pretty clear that he was not going to budge. "Let me list off the reasons; Because you don't know how." His index finger raised. "You jump into water without thinking." Middle finger raised this time. "You're not going to die by drowning like an idiot." His ring finger raised, but not only that; there was a small twinge of discomfort that flashed across his face.
"And because we're both not busy right now." His pinkie raised, and his tone drifted off like he had more reasons, but he was sparing her from them. In the end, he sighed and ran his hand through his hair, his hat having been left at home.
"Just...shut up and do it." Did he really need to add more to that?

She found herself giggling when he whined, mostly because it was kind of funny and adorable to hear him do it. Her giggles stopped, however, when he started to list the reasons. She opened her mouth, as if to protest, but ended up sighing instead. They were all good reasons, except for that last one; she was busy! Busy with doing nothing and staring at the clock to make time pass faster...
... Okay, they were all good reasons.
"Oh fine... You're right," She didn't bother inviting him in; knowing him, he would decline anyway, "Hold on..." She pushed the door, as if to close it, but left a small gap open, not quite sure if it would be rude to just close the door on him. Roughly 10 minutes later - which was a record for her - she reappeared at the door with a plain black shirt which looked too long for her, a pair of sandals, and a duffel bag she didn't know she had until she found it accidentally. Maybe she really should clean up more...
"Bathing suit's under," She nodded, tugging at the strap of the bag nervously; she had no idea how people dress to go to the pool... She was working off what she had seen others do.

Mac rolled his eyes when she started to giggle, shaking his head a little bit. Of course she would have found that amusing. Oh, Lizzy...so odd. He couldn't help the brief grin at her though, one that was mostly spurred by the giggles and their sudden stop as he started to list his reasons.
"Oh, I'm always right." He was grinning again, straightening up like the modest, shy person he was. Yeah, right. She disappeared into her room and he definitely noticed that the door was left open a smidge...what, did she want him to peek at her? ...Yeah, not going to happen. In fact, it wasn't going to happen so much that he turned his back to the door, eyeing the door across the way; what horrible, terrible demon could have lived there?
He was happy he was going swimming, this place made him feel dirty.
"Good...I don't exactly want you changing when we get to the lake." Mac said over his shoulder, taking a step forward and turning automatically towards the way he came. "Ready to go, then?" He seemed impatient and antsy now; too long in this nest, apparently.

"L-lake? We're not going to the pool?" She frowned as she followed him, letting down her hair before clipping it up again to make it neater... Not that it was going to stay neat the moment they have to go into the water. Judging from her tone, she was about to start listing down the reasons why the pool would be a much better idea than the pond. In fact, she wasn't going to give him the opportunity to stop her whining, "The pool is cleaner, more deserted and I'm less likely to drown in it due to the... Measuring thingy they have at the side. No sudden drops in water level!"
Besides, the pond was right outside the monster dorm. The monster dorm where a certain dragon lived. There was no way she could concentrate on learning how to swim if she was distracted by everyone who exits the building!
She wasn't going to tell Mac that though.
"Please may we use the pool instead? Please?" She went all doe-eyed on him as she kept up with his pace, walking beside him.

Mac heard her cry of disbelief. She didn't want to go to the lake?
"But I---" He started, but before he could say anything more she was already going off on a very long-winded tangent about how the lake is the poor choice and the pool is better and yada yada... Granted, she had some great points, but at the same time she was completely not letting him talk. What he had to say was important, really!
"Whoa, whoa whoa, calm down." He urged once she stopped long enough to let him get a word in, gesturing his words with his hands. "All I was gonna say, is that I don't know where the pool is." Once he realized she was making doe eyes at him, he pointedly stopped looking at her; everywhere but her. "So you're going to have to lead the way." He added, just in case she decided to babble again.
They exited the demon dorms, and he breathed a sigh of relief.

"Yay! And... You've never been to the gym? Really?" She frowned, then remembered that he was sort of new to the school, and Professor Red hadn't been holding many classes lately... Her frown only deepened when she realized that his first ever school field trip, held soon after he joined the school, involved an island with a lack of FEAR, frightening hallucinations and seeing other students die. That must suck pretty bad. It did remind her of something, however...
"You died during the trip too?" At least, that was what Petro told her when she visited the boil earlier in the week; she had intended to make a trip down to Mac's to check on him. It just... Slipped her mind for some reason.
"Are you feeling alright?" She tugged on his arm before letting go quickly, as if remembering something, and turned to tug on his bag instead in order to direct him in the right direction and get his attention. He seemed to be looking away for some reason, "Dying can be... Uh, quite the experience."

"No." Mac confirmed with a shake of his head; there were no gym signups, and with everything that happened since he arrived here...well, he had other things to worry about that didn't involve finding the school gym. He liked the outdoors just fine anyway! Why find the gym when he could get what he wanted by going outside of his dorm?
Her question floored him, and he quickly looked at her, black eyes wide in surprise.
"...That tattletale." Mac sighed, lowering his head and pinching the bridge of his nose. "Y-yeah, I died." A calloused hand rubbed his sleeveless arm and then moved up to brush along his throat, the mark there having since long healed. "I'm fine, it was...Well I didn't feel much. I was already in a lot of pain..." He paused for a moment to slide his hand over his chest; the pain of breathing, the invisible stab through his chest from watching his friends die.
"It was actually...kind of a relief to die." He admitted, looking away from her. It was his turn to follow her now, heading towards the pool. "How about you? Are you okay?"

"Sorry, I meant to go check on you sooner," She frowned, hugging her bag to her chest as she looked up at him, wide eyed, "You were? Did you trigger something while waiting for Conquest to transport you?" She was, of course, referring to the injuries she sustained by accidentally triggering some traps before she died; the only good thing about being blown up into FEAR particles is the fact that once you reform, most of the injuries tend to vanish, although there might be small wounds here and there... And fatigue from all that travelling they had to do...
"... It was? That's selfish," She chewed on her lower lip before sighing, looking at the path in front of her instead of at him, "But... I guess if I had to see that happen to you... Or anyone else... I..." Yup, she would rather die. Maybe fate was kind to her in that sense.
She didn't answer his question immediately, mostly because she wasn't sure how to answer. She was physically fine but mentally... She wasn't as sure. Hesitating before looking up, Lizzy offered him a sheepish smile, "I guess so? Its not the first time I died... Died during the Christmas field trip too, but... This was kind of worse. So much time to reflect, but I couldn't do anything..." She forced a laugh, hugging her bag tighter, "I hope I'm not making this dying thing a habit."

"Who said I wanted you to check on me anyway?" Despite the words, his tone was rather soft; he didn't blame her for not checking on him. He wouldn't check on him. Besides, she had plenty more friends, they were more important and he understood. Plus, he'd probably end up reenacting the last time she visited his dorm room unannounced. "No, I made it to the other side. There was a dark room and this grinding sound and...blades, I think? I don't remember, really." What she said next made him pause; if it had been possible, his eyes would have darkened.
"How is that selfish?" He demanded, his tone still low but taking a clearly sharper edge to it. "That Reaper attacked me, I was tired. The insane from the fog, the near swan dive off a cliff... You and Charlie landed on me, I'm pretty sure some ribs were broken. It hurt to move, it hurt to breathe, and as if that wasn't bad enough I saw you die...then I saw Charlie die..." He opened his mouth like he had more to say, but after a heavy sigh through his nose, he slouched a bit and looked away, fighting back the memories of complete despair from the whole event. His best friend. The people he'd been working to keep alive; he was doing so well too, right up until the white haired horseman...
"Yeah, It was a relief to end it." He confirmed again, glancing back down at her. "It was actually the best I'd felt the entire trip." He knew she understood, she said so herself; but he had very good reasons for being relieved, and he clearly did not appreciate absently being called Selfish for it.
"Well, that's why you're going to learn to swim; one less thing that could kill you." He was straining to be even about it, but death was clearly a bit of a sore spot. Only a little bit. "How much further?"

"I just wanted to... Should there be a reason to do that?" It was perfectly normal to be worried about your friends, after all, even more so after going through a terrible field trip together! She winced at his description of the trap that awaited them behind the portal; Petro didn't go into the details, and she was starting to understand why, "So... That's how Jericho went too. Ah... And... The rest of them..."
Was she being bold by assuming that Riley would take care of Jericho? She didn't even attempt to contact him since that day...
"Sorry," She muttered, scooting closer to him and wrapping her arm around his; he made his stand on physical contact to Riley during the trip and she was trying her best not to set him off on a rant by touching him, especially since he didn't have his jacket with him, but... Hugs made everything better 90% of the time, even arm hugs. The other 10% included hugs not really working for emo Jericho and emo Petro - it might be a monster boil thing. Who knows?
"Its just that if I really died - like permanently - I would want my friends to... You know, stay alive," She sighed, before looking up at him with a smile at his comment; she knew he was a puppy inside!
"You're an awesome friend, Pu... Mac," She nodded before letting go of his arm, walking ahead, mainly because she was blushing, "See that building ahead? That's the gym... We can use the pool inside."
Please let it be empty. Please let it be empty.

Mac looked down at her when she hugged his arm; his hesitations with touching was really only limited to Demon Strangers, and he had no problem with Lizzy clinging to him. She clung throughout the entire trip almost, after all! Sighing lightly once more, he moved a hand over to pat her arm.
"I guess, but I don't know; I've never lost both my friends in one fell swoop before. Besides, it wasn't my fault I died. They came from the ceiling I think." He pointed skywards, though they were clearly not in the dark room on that damned island. A brow quirked when she admitted he was a good friend - even stopping herself from that stupid nickname! That was good.
She went on ahead, and thankfully missed the smile that twitched onto his lips.
Smile fading, he looked ahead at the building, glancing around once before moving to head inside just after she did, and from there he followed the signs until he found the pool.
Which was, thankfully, empty.
"Oh, well, lucky you." He chuckled, dropping his bag where it wouldn't get wet, soon and rather nonchalantly followed by his sleeveless t-shirt and his jeans; like Lizzy, he wore his swim trunks underneath. Unsurprisingly, they were green with some black designs. "Meet you in the water, then." And if she ran? Well, he was pretty confident that he could outrun her enough to catch her.
Without thinking about it, he dove right in.
