A short road that leads to the blocked-off Underground Pass and into Celadon City. This is the western part of the route, closer to Celadon City.

Once Mezame got a hang of putting the bike together she hopped on hoping she would actually be able to ride it well enough that she wouldn't fall off before she even got very far. Mezame unclipped Starly's Pokéball from her belt and threw it up in the air. "Come on out Starly!"

"Leeee~" Starly called happily, seemingly surprised to be let out of it's Pokéball.

"Come on Starly, It can't be good being cooped up in there so much, you need some exercise so you get strong and healthy!" Mezame rearranged the pedals so she could push off with some speed and set off away from Cerulean and back down Route Five.

The wind whipped through Mezame's hair as she soared down the hill with her Pokémon flying at her side. Starly seemed to be enjoying the freedom just as much as Mezame was. The pair of them came off of Route Five and zipped through Saffron City without even thinking about home. Mezame wanted to spend as little time there as she possibly could, the fear of bumping into her parents there was ever present.

Starly and Mezame came into Route Seven and was greeted with grassy fields and beautiful flowers, all in the middle of woody clearing that led the way into Celadon City. Mezame was looking forward to exploring a new city but she decided this would be a good place to rest a while first.

Mezame plonked herself down on the grass and looked up at the sky. A flock of Starly flew over head and Mezame's Starly flew over to her and landed itself in her lap.

"Staaaar..." Starly sounded angry as it looked up at the sky to the other Starly.

"Do you know those Starly?" Mezame asked without looking down. They seemed to be circling and it was making Mezame- and Starly, nervous...

It was only a small flock by usual Starly standards and this one was headed by a Staravia. Mezame shaded her eyes from the sun to get a better look. "Hey that Starly is bigger than all the other Starly." She commented pulling her Pokédex out from it's belt pocket.

"Staravia- The evolved form of Starly."

That was all Mezame needed to know and she closed the Pokédex and put it away. The Staravia cried out and it was echoed by the mass of Starly following it. Mezame wrapped her arms around Starly and held her Pokémon close. Again the Staravia cried out and hovered in the air for a moment before it started to dive towards the ground- to where Mezame and Starly were sitting.

"Aaah!" Mezame screamed ducking her head down and covering Starly with her arms. Starly buried itself into Mezame's chest for a moment before it was hit with the realisation that even with her fear of the bird Pokémon, she was protecting it. Starly opened it's wings forcing Mezame to open her arms and as Starly took off into the air Mezame called out after it. "Starly, No! Come back!"

Starly looked back over it's shoulder at Mezame before it flew up to meet the Staravia. Even with the distance between them, Mezame could still almost see Starly's fierce marble eyes baring down on her, telling her it was going to take care of it. "Don't do it Starly!" Mezame begged. "Please come back!"

Starly ignored her and soon reached level with the Staravia. Mezame could hear them chattering angrily at each other and she stood anxiously waiting for Starly to come back. Mezame gasped as the Staravia used what looked like a wing attack on her Starly. Starly fell out of the air and with a panicked squeal Mezame ran to catch it.

As luck would have it, Starly fell right into Mezame's arms. "Thank goodness!" Mezame exclaimed. "Are you okay Starly?!"

"Starly..." The Pokémon sounded a mixture of angry and ashamed, and Mezame couldn't work out which one it could be. "Starly star starly star star." Starly seemed like the blow didn't cause it too much damage but Starly didn't move from her arms.

"I'm glad." Mezame said smiling. The sudden returning cry of the Staravia caught both their attentions and Mezame turned around looking for the source of the noise but before she knew what was happening, the Staravia had swooped down and plucked Starly from her arms with it's talons and flown off with it. "Starleee!"

"Starly! No!" Mezame reached out even though the Staravia had taken off so quick it was already well out of reach. "STARLY!" Mezame screamed and ran a few steps after the flying Pokémon but knew it was too late and quickly gave up, slumping to the floor in tears.

A quick walk brought Amie to routed seven. She always thought it was funny how such a small route wasn't engulfed by these two big cities on either side of it. Might as well enjoy it now, since that might happen in years later to come she joked to herself. She hoped she could get the practice she needed over with quickly or find some pokemon in the process.

As she entered the route, she was startled by some sharp cries of some bird pokemon and then she heard a girl scream, repeating the sound of the pokemon she just heard. What's that all about, she thought to herself. Curious to what just happened, Amie traveled further into the route to search for the source.

Making her way through the route, Amie found something interesting. A distraught crying girl on the ground. Amie approached slowly, not wanting to startle the girl much. She wondered if what she heard a short while ago had anything to do with this girl.

"Are you hurt?" Amie asked her, taking a quick look over her as she asked. She knew wild pokemon could attack people if provoked and hoped the girl wasn't attacked by any. Amie noticed the girl's pokebelt that trainers, or people wanting to be trainers, wore, but that just made her wonder more what was going on.

User ImageMezame sobbed feeling both distraught from losing her friend and useless from not being able to prevent it. She couldn't even begin to think about what she should do next. The bird Pokémon could be anywhere by now.

Distracted by a voice Mezame tried her best to stop crying and looked up to see a girl about her age. Mezame wiped her eyes and took a few deep breaths. "...Hurt?" Mezame asked a little confused. "Oh, no." She added realising how it must look. "I'm fine." Mezame said standing up and taking another deep breath.

"My Starly... I tried to protect it but a bunch of other Starly and a Staravia swooped down and took it away." Mezame looked up at the sky and tried to keep her tears under control. "I have to help it!"

Amie waited for the girl to calm down as it look like she wasn't hurt, though the girl seemed to still be in a bit of shock. Listening to her story, it made sense to what happened now. The poor girl looked worried sick about her pokemon.

Amie sighed, having the bad feeling that today was going to be a one of those days that just seemed to drag on forever. "Do you remember which way they went?" She asked, knowing she had to help even if it took awhile. She walked over closer to the girl ready to head off with her.

User ImageMezame was ready to bolt off but the girls question made her stop and think. She did remember which way they went, and not only that, she had an idea where they might have gone.

"Hey, I think I do... They went off towards Saffron and I caught my Starly on Route Eight, that leads to Lavender Town. That's probably where the flock live!" A part the reddness of her face all traces of Mezame's sadness was gone and replaced with determination.

Mezame ran off a few steps towards Saffron City and stopped suddenly remembering. "Oh, thanks by the way!" Mezame walked back towards the girl. "My name is Mezame, what's yours?"

Amie continued to listen to the girl, as her demeanor changed. At least they wouldn't have to search all over for the girl's pokemon. A quick trip through Saffron City wouldn't be too difficult as long as the streets weren't too busy. The birds themselves can just fly over the city so the two of them would definitely be a bit behind.

Amie was ready to follow the girl as she ran off, but soon came back introducing herself as Mezame and thanking her. "I'm Amie." She responded back and then asked, "Do you want to get going now?" Amie was ready to follow behind Mezame, letting the person who knew the way lead.

User ImageMezame nodded. "Nice to meet you Amie. Thanks for knocking some sense into me back there." If someone hadn't come along who knows how long Mezame could have been crying there for. Mezame checked she had everything with her and nodded once more. "Okay lets go."

Mezame was grateful Amie seemed to be up for helping find Starly and she started running off towards Saffron City.

Amie's Abra warped in at route seven like his trainer told him. Plenty of pokemon were about but he saw no Starly. He teleported a few more times around the short route but had no luck finding the pokemon. He decided to stop and ask a local pokemon if they knew where the pokemon were.

He came across a Rattata and asked it if it had seen a Starly recently. The rat pokemon told him about the first encounter that happened today, where Mezame was first separated from her Starly, and then another time where it looked like the same pokemon had come back to the route but left with some Starlys again heading east. Abra thanked the pokemon and disappeared once again.

As Celadon's Pokemon Center faded behind them, Landrum knew he had officially left home. He checked his map to see where he was. "Okay, Route 7. Just a straight shot down this road and we'll be in Saffron.... Hm. Then we'll just need to leave through the city's northern gate and then it's only a quick walk to Cerulean City!"

Landrum walked for what seemed like forever. His boredom grew, so he decided to take a break from traveling and check out the area instead. "Hey Bulbasaur, let's go play for a bit! We'll get to Saffron when we get to Saffron. No point in rushing!"

Bulbasaur appeared from his PokeBall with an thankful (WORD). "Yeah, sorry," Landrum said, "I didn't think you'd mind, but I guess you're not a huge fan of being stuck in that PokeBall. If you want, you can just walk around, and if you get tired, let me know!" With their new agreement, Landrum and Bulbasaur decided to check out the nearby forest, "Just make sure not to go too far in," Landrum warned Bulbasaur, "we wouldn't want to get lost on the very first day of our adventure!"

After a few minutes of searching for Pokemon, Landrum and Bulbasaur decided that there must not be any in this area. "Let's just go back, Bulbasaur," Landrum suggested. Bulbasaur followed suit and the pair began to head back towards the path.

Landrum could see the road through the trees when he noticed that Bulbasaur wasn't with him. An immediate wave of panic struck him from head to toe; Bulbasaur had never wandered off before, at least not without saying something! Landrum sprinted back to where he and Bulbasaur had been. He could see Bulbasaur up ahead and he was overcome with relief. "Bulbasaur! What are you doing?! Don't scare me like that!" But there was something wrong with Bulbasaur. He was.... sleeping? "Um, Bulbasaur? I told you that if you got tired, let me know so I can have you return to your User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.PokeBall so you can rest." Of course, he knew Bulbasaur was oblivious to this comment. Landrum was reaching for Bulbasaur's PokeBall so that he could return him when he heard six little voices chattering in unison. "Who's there?" he yelled to the trees. He heard them again, six little voices repeating the same thing. "Bulbasaur," Landrum shook Bulbasaur vigorously, trying to wake him up. "WAKE UP BULBASAUR!!!"

Bulbasaur's eyes opened groggily and he looked up at Landrum. Just then, the six voices could be heard again and Bulbasaur snapped to attention. "That's either someone playing tricks on us, or it's a Pokemon," Landrum exclaimed. No sooner had the words left his lips, the source of the voices made their appearance. It was half a dozen....... "Eggs?!" Landrum said. "No wait! I know what that is, I've seen one at Erika's gym before; that's an Exeggcute! That's why Bulbasaur was sleeping, that Exeggcute probably knows Hypnosis attack!"

The Exeggcute chanted together in unison, "Exeggcute, Exeggcute, User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Exeggcute." They seemed to be rearing up for another attack. "Bulbasaur, let's fight! Use your Vine Whip attack to try and separate them! Their attacks aren't as effective if they aren't an entire unit!" Bulbasaur's vine cords shot out from under his bulb instantly. He slapped at the Exeggcute in an attempt to separate them, but the Exeggcute seemed ready for this, almost as if they saw it coming. They easily dodged Bulbasaur's vines and prepared for another attack. But Bulbasaur got lucky and managed to connect with one of the Exeggcute in the bunch. It was sent tumbling off to Landrum's right. Without all six, Exeggcute was unable to perform any psychic attacks. Now was their chance!

From their midst, a stream of what seemed to be acorns fire out from the Exeggcute. "Bullet Seed attack! Bulbasaur, counter it with a Razor Leaf attack!" Bulbasaur let loose a whirl of leaves in the direction of the incoming attack. He was successful in hitting the seeds, but he was unsuccessful in preventing it. The leaves simply cut each acorn in half, doubling the amount of times Bulbasaur was pelted. At this point, the separated Exeggcute had rejoined the group, making it whole again.

"Bulbasaur, don't give up! We've got to win this! Try using Leech Seed attack, it might trip them up!" From the tip of Bulbasaur's bulb came a tiny seed that launched itself towards the Exeggcute. The seed landed right square in the middle of the group where it burst into a series of roots that entangled the Exeggcute, completely immobilizing it. "Good job, Bulbasaur! Now try to put them to sleep with Sleep Powder!" Bulbasaur released a fine powder from his bulb that drifted towards the snared eggs, but Exeggcute was not about to quit. It released a psychic attack upon Bulbasaur, Confusion. It picked Bulbasaur up and began to toss him around; Exeggcute didn't need to be mobile for psychic attacks!

"Oh no! Bulbasaur, hang on!" Landrum thought furiously. There wasn't anything he could do unless Exeggcute stopped the attack. Then he had it!

"GO! POKEBALL!" He hurled a PokeBall towards the Exeggcute; as soon as the Pokemon disappeared into the PokeBall, Bulbasaur fell to the ground and was able to move again. The pair anxiously watched the PokeBall as the Exeggcute inside furiously struggled to break free. But Bulbasaur's Leech Seed held fast. The PokeBall stopped moving. There it sat, in the middle of the forest: Landrum's first captured Pokemon!

"We did it, Bulbasaur! We caught our first Pokemon!" Bulbasaur let out a yelp of excitement over this feat. Landrum picked up the PokeBall and put added it to his belt, "You're all mine, Exeggcute! Welcome to the team!"

When Landrum and Bulbasaur finally exited the forest, they were exhausted. "We still have to get to Saffron City though, Bulbasaur. Ready to go?" But Bulbasaur would have none of this walking business. Landrum understood and returned Bulbasaur to his PokeBall, "Mr. Lazy, eh? But I guess you deserve it, good job bud!" Landrum put Bulbasaur onto his belt and continued his walk down Route 7. "We aren't stopping again until we hit Saffron!"
