Vic led Lizzy through the relatively quiet streets and up to Diglett's Cave. It wasn't as big as he imagined it to be from looking at the map. But then he supposed it was dug by Digletts, so it probably was never going to be that big.
"Want to go inside?" asked Vic.
"Yaha. What do you think we'll find?" Lizzy replied.
"I think a lot of diglett, maybe some dugtrio too. But I hope we'll find some other pokémon, like sandshrew or rhyhorn or hippopotas," Vic said.
"Hippoppopo? Oh, maybe some sandile?" asked Lizzy.
"Maybe. You never know," Vic replied. He took Lizzy by the hand again and led her into the cave. There was a man there, sat on the floor, drinking a cup of tea. He looked like maybe he knew the cave well. Vic thought he should ask him some questions. "Excuse me. Could you tell us what pokémon we're likely to find inside?"

The moustachioed man explained that there were diglett and dugtrio in the cave, and Vic tried to be respectful when he said that of course there were diglett in Diglett Cave. He asked what else there was.
"Sandshrew, zubat, golbat if you're lucky. A few geodude too, so watch your step. Or did you come for the gligar? Thought you could succeed where I've failed, did you? Young'uns these days, I tell ya," the man ranted.
"I didn't mean to offend you," Vic apologised. "I didn't know there were gligar here."
"There aren't some gligar here, there's one. Pesky little minx it is, and I will catch it. Why else d'you think I'd be hanging around in a cave?"
Vic hadn't thought about that. "But, I thought gligar lived on mountain sides?"
"There rules now? A pokémon got to live where the textbooks say? Huh?"
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean..." Vic muttered. He didn't know what else to say though. He took Lizzy by the hand and led her toward a ladder. "Come on. Let's go catch us a gligar."

Vic climbed down the ladder first, then helped Lizzy as she descended into the dark.
"I can't see," Lizzy complained.
Vic pressed the light button on his pokégear and it flashed on. "This isn't ideal, but it's better than nothing," he said.
The light scared away some pokémon before Vic could even identify them. Some others seemed to be drawn to it. First some zubat showed a little interest and then some sandshrew uncurled themselves to see what the commotion was. There was no sign of any gligar though.
"Do you really think we'll be able to catch it? Maybe it's smart?" said Lizzy.
Vic thought that was probably the case. The old man must have had experience in catching pokémon, but he hadn't managed to get the gligar. Perhaps it had outwitted him. After all, he did say it was a minx. "We'll just have to be smarter," Vic replied.
"Good plan!" Lizzy asserted.
"Gastly come..." Vic said. He knew that Lizzy didn't like the ghost pokémon though, and they were already in a dark cave, so he changed his mind. "No, Shuckle, come out."
"Why Shuckle?" Lizzy asked.
"Because I have a plan," Vic said. He pointed Shuckle's pokéball forward and a flash of red light released the pokémon. The reddish-brown shell could almost have blended in with the rest of the scenery, except for the wormy feelers that came out of the holes in it. One of which had a head.
"Shuuuh," the pokémon yawned.
"Now we have to find the gligar," Vic said. "Shuckle, use sweet scent."
Shuckle pulled his head and all of its feelers into his shell, then expelled a purple mist. It had such a lovely aroma to it that pokémon could scarcely resist it. That gligar would come out in no time.
"What will you do when the gligar comes?" Lizzy asked. "Bring out Gastly then?"
"No," Vic reassured her. He didn't need to use Gastly at all. Shuckle's defence was so good he could wear the gligar down over time. Unless, of course, all the other pokémon smashed him to pieces before the gligar even turned up. "Shuckle, it's getting busy with all the wrong pokémon here. Use defence curl and then roll out. Go and find the gligar and lure it back here."
"Shuuuh~ckle," the pokémon said. He pulled his head and feelers into his shell and then pushed out one feeler to get himself rolling. After that he kept pushing out feelers to get some speed going. Before long he had rolled out of sight with a bunch of diglett, sandshrew and zubat following after him like teenage boys chasing skirt.
"Now we wait," Vic said.

Vic and Lizzy were waiting for a good ten minutes before Shuckle came back. He didn't seem to have anything following him, but he was too experienced to not know a gligar when he saw one. It must have been lagging behind.
"Hey Shuckle. Is the gligar following?" Vic asked.
"Shuuuu~ckle," the pokémon replied. Vic stood up and got ready to give another order. But he didn't know what order to give, since he didn't know what gligar were weak to.
"Why not have gastly use ice punch?" Lizzy asked.
"Gligar are weak to ice?" Vic wondered. "Great. But if I get Gastly out... why don't you go back up the ladder and wait for us?"
"Okay."
Vic returned Shuckle to his pokéball while Lizzy climbed the ladder. "Thanks Shuckle. Your job's done. Now go, Gastly!"
Gastly never seemed to come out of her pokéball in the ordinary way, but then she was a ghost pokémon, so Vic never questioned it. He checked the pokéball to make sure it was empty, then looked around in the darkness.
"Gaaaaah," the pokémon wailed in its deep, longing voice.
"Gastly, there's a gligar going to come out any second. I need you to hit it with an ice punch as soon as you see it," Vic explained.
Gastly nodded then turned away from Vic to search around for the gligar. Even if it was being sneaky, suspicious of Shuckle, Gastly would find it.
"Gli~i~i?"
"There! Now, ice punch!" Vic ordered.
Gastly disappeared, then reformed in the shape of a giant, frosty fist which pounded into the gligar from behind. The attack froze the strange-looking pokémon solid. The ball of ice dropped to the ground with a crack and rolled to a stop at Vic's feet.
"Oh. That was... easy. Really easy," Vic said. "Well done Gastly. Now get some rest."
The gligar looked helpless inside the ball of ice. Vic felt mean catching it when it was unable to fight back. But life is no picnic for anyone. Vic returned Gastly to her pokéball, then tossed an empty one at the frozen Gligar.
The ball consumed the wild pokémon, ice and all, and then plonked onto the ground. It didn't even wobble, because the pokémon couldn't fight inside. The capture was complete after only a second.
"Ha. Showed you, old man. Young people aren't as pathetic as you say," Vic laughed. He picked up the pokéball, which was cold to the touch, and fastened it into one of the clips that dangled from his belt. Now he had to go to the pokémon centre to get it healed up, then they could go and sit in a park somewhere and get to know each other before taking on Lt. Surge. "We're going to be great together, Gligar. I know it."

Vic climbed up the ladder and saw the old man, still sat by the wall drinking his tea. There was no sign of Lizzy though.
Vic approached the man, hoping he'd be less obnoxious this time. "Excuse me. Have you seen my sister?"
"No," the old man grunted. He put his cup down, then picked up a little sack that was tied up with twine. "Now if you'll excuse me, I have two dozen ultra balls here that I'm going to pour all over that pesky gligar. Let's see it escape me this time."
Vic was about to tell him that it was no use, but after being spoken to like that, the old man could search for the rest of his life and Vic wouldn't care. "Thanks any way. Good luck catching that Gligar. It was way too smart for me so I give up. I'll go find something more in my league, like a magikarp or something."
"Sure," the old man grimaced. Maybe he suspected Vic was being sarcastic, but he didn't press.
Vic turned his back on the coot and walked out of the cave to find Lizzy.

It was a short walk from the Pokémon Centre to the Diglett cave area. Chase followed after Millie, hands in pockets and listening to her babble on about about her badges. "And now I'm in Kanto, going after my second badge at Surge's gym." She finished.
"So you haven't actually got all the badges in any region to actually enter a pokémon league?" Chase asked with a scoff. Millies fists clenched once again but she managed to contain herself.
"Well neither have you." She scoffed right back.
"I've finished pokémon trainers school, I can enter any time I like." Chase responded cooly.
Millies jaw dropped for a second but then she raised an eyebrow. "Then why don't you?" She asked suspiciously.
"I want to prove I can take on the gym challenge as well." Chase explained. "If I can do it, then I'll know for sure I can beat the elite four."Chase sounded confident by deep down he could feel the pangs of guilt.
"Beat the elite? You don't even have enough pokémon to take me on, let alone beat me." Millie jeered.
"Hmph. Hardly a challenge if I used my school pokémon." Chase countered. "The more variety you have available the more likely you are to win."
"That tactics spew again?" Millie asked with an eye roll. "What you really need is brute strength! You'll see once we get in here." Millie assured as they entered the cave. "But first." Millie started as she retrieved a pokéball. "I'll show you my tactics. Ground pokémon hate water right? Go Barboach" Millie threw her pokéball and the water type appeared looking like it was expecting a battle. "Let's encourage some ground pokémon out of the sand. Use water gun!" Barboach aimed at the ground in front of it and soaked a small area of sand.
"Sandshreeeeeew!" The wet ground opened up and out popped an unhappy and surprised ground type. It rolled around in the dry sand in attempt to dry itself .
"All right!" Watch how a master catches a pokémon!" Millie bragged. "Keep using water gun!" Chase cringed at the over kill. She really was a fan of brute strength. "Pokéball! GO!" The fainted Sandshrew disappeared into the pokéball which wiggled, once, twice- *ping!* "YEAH!" Millie yelled in triumph. "Baboach way to go! celebratory water gun!" Baboach started spraying water gun attacks everywhere.
"Yike! Millie cut it out!" Chase complained.
"Don't be boring!" Millie laughed at him and pointed in his direction. Taking it as a command baboach aimed a watergun at Chase. Chase almost saw it coming and reacted quickly, diving behind a rock.
The rock let out a roar of pain.
"WOOOOOAR" Millie froze in shock and Chase, scooting backwards on his hands and butt moved away from the now writhing rock that was freeing itself from the sand and making itself known as the pokémon it in fact was. "What have you done!?"Chase yelled at Millie in horror. "That's an onix! And you've made it mad!"
"I... I... I..." Millie stuttered.
"Do something!"Chase yelled over the sound of the angry onix pulling the rest of it's body out of the ground.
"Uh... RUN!"Millie yelled and legged it towards the cave exit with her Baboach slithering after her leaving Chase behind.

"Uuuh. N-nice Onix..." Chase stuttered as he looked up higher and higher.
"WOOOOOAR" The onix roared in response. And with that Chase was running for the exit.
Meanwhile, Millie had called out her misdreavus and was using psychic to pile up some rocks to close up the caves exit. "Chase! Hurry!" Millie called to him. She would be able to put the last rock in place as soon as Chase got out, if he hurried. Onix was fast though and was gaining on Chase. "Come on!" Millie urged. Chase dived through the gap, but Onix was right behind him and smashed through Millie's blockade."AHHHH!"
"AHHHH!" The pair screamed, covering their heads.
Much to their luck though, onix was stuck.
"WOOOOOAR" Onix yelled trying to get free.
"Ha-HA!" Millie yelled in triumph. "Nah nah!" She taunted.
"WOOOOOAR" The Onix yelled again, but this time the tone was different. Onix was trying to pull back into the cave but was well and truly stuck.
"Millie... I think it's really hurt." Chase worried.
"Well I'm outta here. I got what I came for and I don't feel like being turned to moosh when that thing gets free! See ya!" Millie waves and started to jog away.
"Millie you can't just leave!" Chase called after her.
"You can handle it, here!" Millie tossed him a draw string bag. "My spare pokéballs. You better not use them all up! Come find me when you find your own ground type! Later!" And with that she ran off back into the city. Probably to take that sandshrew to the pokémon centre. "I don't believe her." Chase muttered.
"WOOOOOAR" The cry of the Onix caught Chase's attention once again. Taking a deep breath, he carefully approached it.
"WOOOOOAR" Onix writhed as Chase got close, trying to get away from him.
"It's okay." Chase said softly. "I want to help you." He got close enough and put a reassuring hand on onix's side.
"Woaar" Onix said sadly. Hanging it's head.
"I'll think of something. Don't worry." Chase stepped away and grabbed hold of the nearest rock that was keeping onix wedged in. He pulled but nothing happened. He tried again and again but the rock wouldn't budge. "It's not working!" Chase moaned in frustration. He stepped back to get a better look and sighed trying to think of a way to free the onix. "If only I could make you smaller..."Chase huffed. He stuffed his hands in his pocket, an unfamiliar object pressing against his hand made Chase pull it out to see what it was. "THAT'S IT!" Chase yelled in triumph. He opened Millies pokéball bag and looked inside. "Is that?" Chase wondered and reached in pulling out a heavy ball. "I don't think Millie would be happy if I used this... But it's her fault onix is hurt and stuck like this."
Without further hesitation Chase threw the ball at the onix. "Heavyball, go!" The ball bounced off the pokémon and shrank and pulled it into the ball. It wiggled only once. *ping*

Sam River

Sam sat meditating. It had been long over a month (and if that doesn't line up with the sites time, I haven't met anyone yet aside from NPC's Lets just say I was rping in the past and I am now caught up) since his humiliation at the pokemon contest. He sat in his make shift secret base that he had been using as a home. He had been training like a mad man since his defeat. Finally he felt it was time to emerge from his shelter and take on the world once more. He picked up his back pack and gestured to Chuck who was biting on a oran berry he had found. He dropped the berry and quick grabbed his expert belt. He had been dieing to fight again. They left there base and quickly marked it on their map. Sam may be returning here to dump any loot he may run into. He set off for Vermilion city where he was fated to begin his come back. He smiled as the cool air of the outside world graced his skin. He took a deep breath. It is like he never left.

Chase saw that the boulders that only yesterday had clogged up the entrance to the Diglett's Cave had been cleared away. Chase didn't know who by, maybe some trainers passing through, or maybe the cave was maintained by locals. Either way there was no sign of them.
Hoping that Onix wouldn't be nervous being in the place that had caused him so much pain Chase removed the heavyball from the back of his belt and threw it up in the air. Onix appeared and stretched with a yawn. When he realised where he was he shot a fearful look at Chase.
"It's a long way to Pewter." Chase said looking up at Onix, keeping his voice calm and friendly. "I wondered if you might help speed up the jouney and give me a lift?"
"Jooooltiktiktik!" The small yellow bug complained.
Onix leaned closer, squinting his big eyes to look at the tiny Joltik.
Chase rolled his eyes. "Us a lift, then."
"Gwoa-" Onix nodded and laid his head down on the ground for Chase to step up to.
