There was a beat of silence where Ichigo didn’t answer right away, and Raide thought that it was rather awkward considering the Sunhat Lady’s forceful attitude. So she decided to answer because the symptoms were rather uncomplicated.
“We think that she twisted, well, maybe sprained her ankle. It hurts for her to walk for it, and she injured it by doing a... High-Kick, I think?” The Sunhat Lady turned to look at her and commanded silently that she not answer a question with a question. Raide stiffened a little. This lady reminded her of Lt. Surge, though with less shouting. She thought a moment.
“Erm... Actually she sprained it with a Jump-Kick, but we couldn’t find any ice for her.”The Sunhat Lady nodded thoughtfully, and her expression softened slightly, seemingly happy that none of Raide’s sentences could be ended with question marks that time. But then her expression twisted into a frown.
“You’re telling me that she’s been walking on this foot for how long?” Sunhat Lady reached sharply for her backpack, unzipped a size compartment marked with a plus-sign, and pulled a moderately sized white box from it, muttering in annoyance under her breath all the while. It was the first aid, of course. She dropped both her backpack and the box on the ground, then pointed.
“Sit.” Was the command she gave to Ichigo.
“I can’t help you if you’re standing, but I will push you over if you don’t sit.”Raide walked a little closer, curious about how to wrap an injured ankle, but she didn’t get the chance to see because the sunhat lady looked at her sternly again.
“You shouldn’t have let her come so far on this.” Raide looked guilty, but didn’t say that she had tried to get her to stop by the Pokemon Center near the Rock Tunnel.
“I’m not sure how long this is going to take me to fix, so you should go on ahead.” Sunhat Lady took a deep breath and stared skyward.
“It’s going to rain later, so you might as well get over to Cerulean soon. Don’t worry about your friend, I’ll take care of her.” Though she really had no reason to believe that the Lady was telling the truth, Raide somehow believed her and felt comfortable with leaving Ichigo in her care.
“You’re sure?” -Raide received a glare-
“O-Of course you’re sure. Thanks.”The younger trainer turned around to catch up with her Pokemon, but a hand shot out, grabbing her shoulder, and nearly causing her to fall over.
“Wait a minute. Let me see your Pokedex.” It wasn’t too unusual of a request, so Raide didn’t have a problem handing it over as long as she got it back in a moment. The lady looked over it seriously, clicking on a few buttons here and there. Once she was satisfied with what she found, she handed it back.
“I’m sorry about that, my name is Susan. It’s just that your Scyther looked very familiar to me and I needed to know if you had caught him legitimately. One of his wings has a dark patch on it, and I’m certain my Froslass has battled him before.” Sunhat L-Susan grimaced and shrugged rather regretfully.
“But it seems you caught him fair and square. Says here he was released by his previous trainer into the wild.”“Really?” Raide was surprised. She hadn’t known that you could find out all that from a Pokedex.
“Where does it say that?” Susan showed her that and a few more of the tricks that a Pokedex could be used for besides the obvious, including nicknames and move checking. That should be useful for when she eventually caught another Pokemon... And on the lines of another Pokemon, she would probably need another team-member before challenging any gyms. And as if reading her mind, Susan suggested giving her Pokemon a break from walking if they were going to be in top shape for any battles. Raide took her advice, returning both Scyther and Cyndaquil (Who had moved on to arguing again) to their Pokeballs, and continued down the route, waving goodbye to Susan and Ichigo who she hoped would heal well. As she left, Susan called her Froslass out of her Pokeball, presumably to help keep the swelling on Ichigo’s foot down.
