“Dear Ms. Gellner,
I am delighted to inform you that the Committee of Admissions has voted to offer you a place in the New York University Class of 2015. I hope you can accept my congratulations on your exceptional accomplishments. The Committee of Admissions took great care in offering the most qualified of applicants a position into the program----"
Devi could not continue reading the letter she had been waiting to read for so long. It was a dream come true – admissions into New York University. But she could not accept the offer. She had far more important things to take care of in Destiny City. She had to abandon her dreams for her responsibilities. Her responsibility to defend the city from the Negaverse, who plague the world with their sick corrupt ways. They murdered the innocent, literally ripping the souls out of humanity for their own gain.
Perhaps her recent methods of retaliation were not the most appropriate. Torture is wrong, it is inhuman and reduces her down to the level of the Negaverse. Devi and her alter-ego Sailor Requiem knew that now. But did her leader, Eternal Sailor Ares, know the same? Did she have an ounce of guilt for what they had done? What she done to poor Captain Dioptase?
Devi had been struggling greatly coping with this death. She wasn’t mourning the loss of Dioptase, no. She struggled with the beauty of death, or rather, the ugliness of the death. Devi had been accustomed to death having spent years working in a funeral home and spending much of her spare time on cemetery grounds, but never had she seen a non-cinematic, non-ficional death be so ugly.
She was used to funerals. Pretty funerals. Not ugly deaths.
The sheer ugliness of the death jolted her. For a while, they made her sympathize with the Negaverse. But it didn’t take long for her to come to her senses. They deserved no pity. They brought war to this Earth. They were the bad guys. While Devi may regret the torture she had committed, she knew that she was on the right side. She knew that what she was doing was important.
Her duties as a Senshi were far more important than even her own future.
Her dreams for the future were nothing more than fantasy. She could still pursue a career in film as she always planned, but the path would have to be different. She had to stay in Destiny City, enroll in Destiny City University or Sovereign Heights, and keep on the battle as Sailor Requiem.
Realizing this, Devi tossed the letter of acceptance in the trash, throwing away her life plan, and began to draft a new one.
