Definitely... A backpack. I'm too hopless to be able to find it where I left it, so I would just carry it with me. Plus, I could get some awesome shocked moments of "It's bigger on the inside!" when I climb into it.

I think I would keep it a police box. It's just so iconic and police boxes are cool. Just like bowties, stetsons, and fezzes.

I'd have to go with an actual phonebooth. You know, like in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. Then I could say they "borrowed' the idea from me.
