[Note: this is open to all the cubs, plus any of No's previous litter who might just be hanging around to see the new kids!]

The second pregnancy had gone remarkably well, all things considered.

For one, she was a seasoned mother. After her last huge litter, the six new lives that soon inhabited her den did not fill her with the dread they might have once had. She no longer feared things like feeding, or checking if they were too cold or too hot. She was not as aggressive either, which was something the whole pride could be thankful for. And while she still warded off any and all males from her birthing den... this time around, she stayed at home. Home, where she belonged and ruled.

And she was not alone. Once more Kaanga had joined her for the birthing, ignoring any attempts from No to shoo her away. When it came to the children, Kaanga had become an almost inseparable part of the equation. Her last litter had been partially raised by their aunt, while their busy parents worked. A role that Kaanga seemed all too happy to resume in the future. But Kaanga was not the last of it. The den had been absolutely filled with curious female parties; several of her own daughters from her last litter, including Ea who played the part of the capable [if not cumbersome] midwife. Even An had been around for the occasion, eager to see her new cousins before she set out into the world outside the Motoujamii.

After the birthing, No settled in for the long run with the cubs. Because she hadn't taken to the desert, the acclimation to the pride had been almost nonexistent. Kidondo kept her informed, and there was no doubt that No's voice continued to be heard even from within the den. Rumor was that she had eyes everywhere.

But now, the cubs were almost at the age where it would be time for the black cat to return to her duties. In fact, she'd be going on her first patrols that morning, leaving the cubs with their aunt for their first dose of babysitting. While No was more than delighted to go back to work... she had a feeling her cubs were not quite aware exactly what that meant yet. Hopefully the tears would be kept to a minimum.

"Ah, little cubs-" She smiled, nuzzling the one nearest to her as they scrambled about the den, doing this and that. They'd been talking as of late, and once the parents had gotten a firm grasp of their personalities, names had been assigned. But she hadn't yet told them why!

It had been a diabolical idea [as No often enjoyed]. The rebels had never cared much for honoring the traditions of the old firekin... but when they did, they found a way to consume them and turn them into their own. Under Fia's guidance, No had named most of her cubs after several 'legendary' firekin heroes. As both an acknowledgement of their past, and a simple deceleration of challenge. Someday, it would be her children that these names were remembered for.

"Did I tell you all who you were named for?" She said with a wry grin. "You are all named after very important people, you know."

Okay, you guys know I'm crazy. [Or, if you didn't, you do now.] I like to play games at birthing rps! So here is our game:

Thanks to the advice of her daughter, Historian Fia, No has decided to name this litter after traditional firekin heroes! But who are these heroes? Well, we'll be using a random generator to find out!

How this works:

1. Each cub will be rolled, 1-15. The description they land upon is the character they are named for.
2. If there are double rolls, the cub will be named after the next possible name, going down. In the event that the last number is rolled twice, the loop starts back at the top and goes down.
3. These are just for fun. Don't think anything of them, but expect them to be aware of who they were named after!
4. None of these are PCs. If they are 'heroes' that took place during the rebellion, they were NPCs that died during it.
5. Cubs are listed in the order that they are numbered from Ameh. <3 You may assume this is the birth order.

heart Note: in the case of gender-bending names, we can assume No is being ironic. Or something.

Edit: No was feeling VERY ironic.

Name Bank

1. Named for an ancient warrior general. When the Motoujamii was attacked by a rival pride, legend has it he singlehandedly defeated the empire by slaying the rival king under the cover of darkness.

2. Named for a famous storyteller. Much of the pride history was first collected and compiled into a single narrative by this intelligent lion. Famously martyred when some considered his history to be 'heretical'.

3. One of the earlier princesses, known for her beauty. She was so desired by the males of the pride that she held tournaments to determine who would be her mate. When the final champion arose... she slew him herself, and ruled as the first queen of the Motoujamii.

4. During the rebellion, this was the name of a slave that rallied his friends against the traditionalists. His master, one of the old guards, bested him in combat. Although he fell during the battle, his bravery inspired many of the other slaves to turn against their captors. He is still revered as a war-hero among the Simo pride.

5. A mysterious lion, known for his trickery. They say that even though he was not royalty, his cunning made him well respected among the nobles. Some even say he might have ruled the pride from the shadows... and some even say he never existed!

6. An ancient priestess, who was rumored to suffer from powerful visions. She foresaw many calamities that would befall the pride... and as a result, was feared. Although she lived mostly alone at the outskirts, one day a general sought her advise on an upcoming battle. On her words, he was able to crush their enemies.

7. Named for a brave cub, who when separated from her family in the desert, managed to survive into adolescence. When she returned to the pride that thought her dead, she did so with an affinity for the desert sands that was unmatched. No matter how the desert changed, she always knew how to chart the correct path.

8. The name of one of the early kings of the Motoujamii. He was rumored to have fathered many children, and would change his chosen heir on his on a whim to keep his sons on their toes. Known for being a wise father, and shrewd ruler.

9. A young lioness slain by rogues when she strayed too far from the pride borders. Her name became a battle cry for the Firekin, and started a crusade to purge the desert of other tribes of lions. To this day, this lioness's name is still invoked by those sworn to protect the borders.

10. Also known as "Broken Paw", this warrior lost the use of his front leg in a duel over a female. Despite his disability, he became known for his savagery on the battlefield. He was so ruthless that one tribe submitted just by hearing his name.

11. The name of the king who first discovered the oasis which serves as the pride's main water supply. He was a brilliant tactician and devout worshiper of Finar-Si. He set into place many of the laws followed by the pride before the Simo rebellion.

12. Also known as "the Scorpion", this great warrior became a legend in the pride when he stopped a team of assassins from killing the young prince heir. In thanks, the king named him captain of the guard. He is still considered to be a role model to the vigilant.

13. A valiant hunter. In a time of famine, he continued to be able to bring home food, even when all others thought all to be lost. Some say he was blessed by Finar-si. The legend goes that every time he went into the desert, a brilliant antelope would appear for him to slay and return back for his children.

14. The name of a ghost, said to haunt the great stone mountains to the east of the pride. No one is sure exactly how the legend got started- but the story goes that if you look at the moon through the breaks in the rocks at exactly midnight, he might appear. Many cubs tell stories about how they've seen him out in the dunes.

15. A warrior whom some say killed over a thousand enemy soldiers in battle. He kept each of their skulls as trophies, and displayed them all across the desert to warn passing rogues. He marked the skulls with a strange, savage symbol... and to this day, some of them can still be found out in the desert!

No seemed pleased with herself. Okay, so maybe she'd deliberately flipped the gender on a few of those names there, but she was quite certain of her choices. In fact, she was so certain that the delight of it had her thrumming contentedly. "Now, those people all may have important roles and histories. Things you may learn from, or change."

Her head craned to the side, catching Hraga by the scruff of his neck and setting him down in her paws. "But, it's up to you to make those names matter to the pride once more. We do not need old legends to guide us. We need those who can be legends in their own time." The black cat smiled, and allowed him to scramble off. "I expect nothing short of extraordinary."

Hraga laughed, rolling over on his side. "You're strange, mom."

"Of this, she is quite aware," the black cat grinned. "But think on it. One day, they'll be telling stories about all of you."

The young cub stretched, his tiny claws slipping from his small paws. "When I grow up, I'll..." he paused. "...hm. I'll make a secret club! And we'll catch lizards all day!"

"A noble endeavor," No thrummed.

Aithne was not really interested in the act of playing with her siblings. She, being a little smaller then her siblings, didn't like to be pushed around. When she was pushed around she got annoyed very easily. When she got annoyed she would get a little more rough, and in the end would find herself doing something different. Today was one of those days where she skipped the middle step and went to doing something different. She was in the back of the den batting around a half alive bug that crawled a little too close and buzzed a little too loud near her ear. She was about to lean over and see what it tasted like until she heard the voice of her mother call out to her and her siblings.

There were few voices in her life that she knew to listen to, and one of those was her mother's. Her ears perked up and she looked over, curious of what the older lioness wanted from them. She grumbled when she realized that it was something more then just a little thing. She glanced down at the bug at her paws, and grumbled turning away and finding her way to her mother's side, flopping down on top of her mother's tail. She stretched herself out and made herself comfortable and listened to her mother.

And she listened very closely that was until she realized that her mother was going birth order, and that meant it would be a little while before her mother got to her name. She was a little disgruntled but remained patient wanting to know what her name meant.

Even though Aithne found enjoyment in going against things that others told her, this she was finding interesting. She was named after a pretty brave sounding male. "The scorpion!" What a nickname, one of the coolest that she had heard. She sat and thought about her name, ignoring the conversation between her brother and her mother Aithne spoke up. "He had a girly name." The little lioness chirped, glancing at her brother and then looking at her mother stretching her paws out and placing it on her mother's tail. The lioness couldn't find anything else to complain about, truthfully she enjoyed the name. She felt proud of it, being the Captain of the Guard sounded exciting, maybe this was something she wouldn't fight against.

Kidondo was proud. There was no other word for it. No other word more fitting as he sat in the den, beside his mate, and surveyed the family set out before him.

Whether it was the fact that this was not his first litter or the fact that No, herself, had been calmer in this pregnancy, he, too, could not deny the fact that this time around had been far calmer than their previous experience. They were a little more aged, a little more wiser and a little more steady in their position in a pride that was stable - or as stable as it would ever be. Besides that, they also had their older children and an assortment of other relatives who were more than willing to help where they could.

And so, he sat and listened to the names of past Firekin be gifted to the Firekin of the future and felt a peace settle in his heart. For just a little while, he could forget his role of Regent and tend only to the duty of mate and father.

"Stories indeed." Kidondo added. "For the life of a Firekin would be nothing without some twist of drama."

Su, crouched quietly between her parents, scrunched up her nose in thought. She liked her name and the thought of being wise to the desert's tricks. Yes. It was a good name. "I want to be in stories." She spoke up. "But only in a good story. I'll have to think of one."

Young life was happening as usual for the black and white son - his parents were standing around watching everything, readily available to be pounced on themselves when the occasion warranted; Aithne was off by herself again, Su was tucked between the two adults, and the bright new day was beginning to blend into their past casual days of running around the den with Kidondo and No's care.

Nur had been trying to bat at the tail of the only other black son of the group, finding it cumbersome if he had gone to see what Aithne was doing or messed around with the twins. Just like any other cub, Nur had developed a rather curious eye for things that constantly moved, and so could not resist from being a typical rowdy brother who enjoyed these odd mini spars. Or, if he was being ignored, he could at least make the best of it and utilize another's flickering tail to practice his pouncing!

Blue eyes brightened when he heard his mother call out to them, sparking an interest in how she had come to call him "Nur". He hadn't thought much of it at first, simply thinking it fit because it sounded so much like his mother's own name. When he was waiting for his own name, he realized he would be last, and so lost attention momentarily until he heard the cue of "Nur".

...And as short as the description was, Nur immediately found himself tilting his head puzzledly, perhaps thinking his mother made the mistake of switching him with one of his other littermates. He was named after a princess? He was fixated on just the first part of the description, ignoring the rest of it for the obvious error of gender.

"I'm not a princess!" he retorted, staring at his mother.

Nur thought it was possible that he did look more girly than his other two brothers, but... He was still a boy!

"Maybe someone forgot it was really a prince," he said, trying to redeem his mother's explanation; he would be okay with being a handsome prince if he didn't have to be recognized after a princess.
