Illarion was tired as he eased himself into the small pond. The water was soothing his aching muscles as he swished his heavy tail through the water. He had always imagined there would be a fairy tale, a journey...a princess....dragons and castles. But the castles were all crumbled, the princesses all saved or...more interested in anything besides knights and being rescued.

Letting out a deep sigh, he eased himself deeper into the water. The dust was washing away, his weary feet were being soothed. He had had fun. The journey was something he'd always dreamed of, but it hadn't been as fulfilling as he had hoped. He was still just as alone, and there was no one to share the stories with. No one besides his family, which was good but he had hoped for more. But more hadn't come.

Yet, deep inside he knew he couldn't give up. He needed to carry on, it was what he had left to hold on to. He loved the journey, and he had to believe that something was going to go right. After all, couldn't this just be the trials? Couldn't this just be the beginning of the story?

Eponine picked her way quietly through the sparse woodland, enjoying her time away from her family. This had been the longest time she'd been away from her father's herd, her brothers, her sisters, and her children. It was strange to the mare to realize she wasn't just a mother but a grandmother! Was she truly that old?

Given, she had been a very young mother to begin things. Part of her wondered where her eldest daughter might be, and what her life was like. Cassiel had been beautiful, albeit heartbroken, and had never been happy with her lot in life. She'd been sad from the moment she'd stumbled out of her basket, and unfortunately, Eponine knew she had been unfit to handle such things. She had lost her daughter, her own depression and loss blinding her to the gift she had been given. Even though years had passed since Cassiel had rejected her mother and turned away, Eponine still loved her so. Part of the blue furred mare had wondered if perhaps she might discover her someday. . .if maybe, just maybe, her eldest would return home.

And then of course there was Caeli and Raiyu. Though not her daughters through blood, she had raised them like her own. Two of the most beautiful girls she had ever seen, both so unique. While her relationship with the pair of them had been close, eventually they too grew and found their own paths. It didn't help her mate at the time, Raiju, their father, had discovered his feelings for the mare weren't as strong as he had thought. While their falling out wasn't as vocal or traumatizing as Ezriel's abandonment of her years earlier. . . it hadn't been something she'd come to terms with easily.

With her family gone, each their own separate ways, Eponine had taken it upon herself to leave the lands. To turn a new page, to start over, and see where her hooves might take her. As a filly she had always wanted to explore the world, to see new romantic sights, to witness epic battles and experiences the greatest romance. She had been foolish, blindly optimistic, and had learned a great deal with her rocky beginnings. But just because she had wisdom and experience didn't mean she had happiness, joy, or contentment.

Heaving a small sigh, the mare did her best to push aside the bubbling guilt and remorse that often haunted her. She wouldn't think about that now, what was done was done, and any lingering reservation would only ruin the day. Right now she was fine, possibly even happy; she had sunshine all she wished, beautiful scenery, and the whole afternoon to call her own. The scent of water tickled her nose, and the mare found herself approaching a pond. It would do her well to quench her thirst and cool off, perhaps even get rid of he dust that clung to her coat.

So lost in her thoughts, she was unaware of the kelpie found deep in the pond. She was on the opposite end anyway, not at all concerned with what might lay in the deeper waters. Ponds had never been a source of concern for the mare before, and as far as she could tell it was safe and quiet. Picking her way up to the edge, she lowered her head and drank, long white hair falling over her features with the tips delicately swirling in the water.

For a moment, his thought continued on. Maybe this was just a pause, the darkness before the dawn? Maybe this---His thoughts paused as he noticed someone a distance away from him. She was female, leaning delicately in the water to drink from it. The white curtain of her hair, shielded her face from him. She was alone out here at his place. It was surprising to see anyone out here, let alone another soquili who as alone in this lonely, desolate place.

Illarion wondered, if maybe...just maybe this had something to do with his musings? Maybe fate had pulled this together as an answer? Or just illuminating hope?

You were never really alone. Not really, he had known that always though it was difficult to remember sometimes. You were never really alone, there was always someone out there for you or somewhere someone who cared. Or like today, there was just someone there to let you see that you weren't the last one left on earth in a desolate place like this.

Moving through the water, his feet gliding through the water making soft sloshing sounds. He wanted to see her, to see what those eyes looked like. To find out what brought her out there alone, to thank her. He wanted to thank her most of all for renewing his faith that you were never alone.
