Brock

Pewter Gym – Boulder Badge – Rock

Brock is one tough cookie! Having travelled the world learning all he could about battling and breeding, he befriended, caught and raised a whole host of fearsome pokémon who each share his rock hard resolve and stout determination.

Brock is known to have numerous Geodude but he battles with them less and less frequently of late, preferring to use rarer pokémon, to give his challengers an experience they might never get otherwise.

Spending much of his spare time around Mt. Moon, Brock is known to work closely with archaeologists to excavate pokémon fossils, which he then studies at the Pewter Museum of Science.

Lt. Surge

Vermillion Gym – Thunder Badge – Electric

Lt. Surge is one bright spark! Serving in the military made him a stickler for tough training and strict routine. He makes it no secret that he fought side by side with lightning pokémon and that they saved his life on more than one occasion.

Lt. Surge's pokémon are just as tough as the man himself and are renowned for getting back up when any others would need to recharge—none more so than his Raichu, who frequently delivers the final shock.

When not zapping challengers in his gym, Lt. Surge spends his time training in Rock Tunnel and lending a helping hand at the Power Plant near that cave's north entrance, which is notoriously unreliable.

Janine

Fuchsia Gym – Soul Badge – Poison

Janine's got a vicious sting in her tail! When her father Koga was promoted to the Elite Four, she was made the leader of the Fuchsia Gym, inheriting a responsibility that she takes incredibly seriously to this day.

At first Janine used the same species of pokémon as her father and stuck to the same strategies and methods he always used when battling. As time passed, however, Janine grew confidence in her own abilities and developed her own fighting style.

Janine is unavailable to challenge most evenings, as she visits her father at the Indigo Plateau. She can often be seen training on Victory Road and when returning to her Gym she usually stops off in Viridian City to heal her pokémon.

Blaine

Cinnabar Gym – Volcano Badge – Fire

Blaine is no hot head! He owes his life to a mysterious, fiery bird pokémon, and in respect for it he trains only fire-types. Although he rarely leaves Cinnabar Island, where he was born and raised, he has endeavoured to obtain as many different fire pokémon as he can.

Blaine's a very intelligent man and often wins his gym battles simply by out-thinking his opponents, rather than out-muscling them. In the distant past he befriended Mr. Fuji, who looks after sick, injured and abandoned pokémon in Lavendar Town.

Unlike most gym leaders, Blaine is usually in or around his gym whenever challengers come knocking. Cinnabar Island is so small he can usually be found with just a little investigating around the pokémon centre.
