Dogwood found himself polishing the egg while his Pokemon healed. He whistled away a tune that he made up as he went along. The egg had gotten quite dusty after his time in Viridian Forest, and the soft rope he'd been using was starting to tear. He'd have to replace it before he left Pewter City. He was also mighty hungry, as he didn't carry much food around besides a few bottles of water, which he hadn't even drank any of since he left Viridian City. After a quick visit to the Pokemart, Dogwood returned with fresh rope and an assortment of Pokemon food. Oh, and a little something for himself, too. His Pokemon were fully healed now, so he found himself a bench and let his three Pokemon out. "Time for supper," he said with a smile. The other Pokemon took turns rummaging through the plastic bag Dogwood had set down in front of them. He wasn't exactly sure what they liked, so he figured they could just pick for themselves. There was very little conflict between the Pokemon as they chose what they wanted. Except for one incident where Atlas thought it would be funny if he took Dogwood's meal, but all that earned him was a smack on the wrist. Charon thought that was pretty funny, of course. The four of them sat around eating quietly. The egg sat in Dogwood's lap as he picked away at a meal of mostly vegetables. Atlas sat next to Dogwood on the bench, popping Pokenuts into his mouth. Charon sat on the ground next to Hercules, eating candied berries, and Hercules himself was enjoying a small jar of honey. This was the first time he'd ever spent any quality time with his Pokemon. It was pleasant.

Glint followed Brock into the pokémon centre, and while he gathered up Squirbert and Coni's pokéballs, Brock sped up to the counter and leaned close to Nurse Joy. "Why hello Nurse Joy, do you come here often?" the gym leader enquired. "Um, of course I do," Nurse Joy replied. "How can I help you? I thought you usually healed your own pokémon because you were on a tight schedule?" "Me? Tight schedule? Naw~" Brock cooed. "Could you work your magic on my pokémon? And on Glint's too?" "Glint's?" Nurse Joy asked, peering around Brock. "Is that Glint Hatcher?" "Mm? Oh, him? Yeah, that's Glint Hatcher," Brock said. Nurse Joy quickly ran out from behind the counter and approached Glint. She seemed like she was in a panic or something. "Glint! And Gruff, all grown up!" Glint raised an eyebrow. "I'm sorry. Have we met?" "Oh of course, you don't remember. You were only five or so. I was at the daycare on a placement when I was at pokémon nurse school," Joy replied. "You helped me out a lot!" "Wait, that was you?" Glint laughed awkwardly. "I wasn't even sure that was real. One of those memories I thought I'd made up." Gruff clearly hadn't forgotten--he'd already approached Joy and sat at her feet. He'd never have done that if he didn't know her. "Hello there, Gruff," Joy said, crouching to give him a stroke. "You remember me, don't you? Growlithe have exceptional memories." "Grawr~" Gruff said. "He seems happy," Glint commented. Then Brock appeared between him and Joy, scowling angrily. "So you know each other?" "Uhm. Not really," Glint answered, eyes narrowing. "I was only five years old." "Phew~" Brock said, clutching his heart. "I thought I'd lost her. So Nurse Joy, how about it?" "Of course," Joy replied. Brock froze. "What!? Y-y-you mean you'll go out with me!?" "Oh silly. I mean I'll fix up your pokémon. Just give me a minute," Joy giggled. She took everyone's pokéballs, then asked Gruff to follow her behind the counter, so she could give him the once-over. Glint breezed past Brock, who seemed to have frozen up in despair. He leaned on the counter and called through to the back. "Hey Nurse Joy? I don't suppose you've seen a zubat with a bandaged wing around, have you?"

~Edward Inuzuka~ Ed walked into the pokemon center and asked Nurse Joy to heal his pokemon. "Oh! I'll also be participating in the Gym challenge to collect badges from this region. Could you register my pokedex please" he asked her politely. She said she would be happy to and quickly registered him. Before he knew it his pokemon were fully healed and he thought he might stay at the center for a bit to devise a strategy to beat Brock. In his notebook that he pulled out of his pocket it said that Brock favored rock type pokemon. Ed knew he was at a disadvantage since all of his pokemon were weak against rock types. He would have to give it his all as a trainer to win the battle and he was going to stay up all night planning a strategy if he had to

Nurse Joy had come back through to reception and was about to reply when a trainer walked in. She motioned to Glint that she wouldn't be a minute, then saw to the boy's needs. "You saw an injured zubat?" Brock asked Glint. "To be honest, Squirbert and Gruff are the ones who injured it--it belonged to that grunt I fought. He ran off and left the zubat behind, so I fixed up its wing, but it flew off before I could give it anything to ease the pain," Glint replied. As he and Brock were talking, the trainer that had walked in mentioned to Nurse Joy that he was going to take the gym challenge. It seemed strange to Glint, but the guy mightn't have realised that Brock was actually stood only a couple of metres away from him. Then again, he was looking at his notebook, so it might be that he just hadn't noticed the gym leader yet. "Team Rocket," Brock growled. "They seem to get more and more despicable each time I hear about them. I wish I could've been there with you. We might've caught him, then we'd have been able to put him to justice." "Yeah. Next time I won't let them get away," Glint said. He looked down and saw Gruff sit at his ankles. The treatment must have been finished. "Here you are, Glint. I'm sorry though, but I haven't heard a thing about an injured zubat," Joy said. She offered a tray with a bunch of pokéballs on, and Glint picked out Coni's and Squirbert's. They were easy to identify, since one was brand new and the other was thirty-odd years old. Brock took his pokéballs too - all marked with a boulder badge - then he got back on Nurse Joy's case. "So now that we've both got some free time--" Glint interrupted him; "hey, Brock, about Mister Miyamoto?" "Oh have you figured out a way to help Mister Miyamoto, Glint?" Joy asked. Glint shook his head. "Brock has. I think." "Oh good. I don't know what we'd do without you, Brock!" Nurse Joy cooed. "Why don't we find out what you can do with me? We'd make a great team!" Brock replied. "Brock? Can we prioritise, please?" Glint asked. Usually he wouldn't press like that, but he knew Brock's reputation. If they didn't go now, Brock might latch on to Nurse Joy and stay that way forever. Or at least until she managed to prise him off with a broom or something. "Yes, you should go and help Mister Miyamoto. I'll see you around. You too, Glint," Joy said. "Of course. I'll look forward to it," Glint said. He tugged on Brock's sleeve then, to try and persuade him to start walking. "Okay! Let's go help Mister Miyamoto," Brock said, heartily. Then he leaned in and whispered to Glint, "that'll be sure to impress Nurse Joy." Glint tried not to sigh. He followed Gruff to the exit and hoped that Brock would follow. Once they'd been to Mister Miyamoto's garden, Brock could go back to the gym and await the challenge of that new trainer. First things first though, talking to Mister Miyamoto would be quite a challenge in itself.

~* Jetta Moon ~* Jetta followed Auburn into the pokémon centre, heading straight for the counter which Nurse Joy was also approaching from the back office. "Hello. Welcome to the Pewter City Pokémon Centre. We can restore your tired pokémon to full health. Would you like to rest your pokémon?""That was very by-the-book, Joy," Auburn said in response. "Yes, well, in truth I've been reprimanded for my casual methods. So I'm trying to stick to the script we're given for a while," Nurse Joy replied. "Oh, I see," Auburn said. "So, would you like to rest your pokémon?" Nurse Joy repeated. "I would," Jetta replied. She placed two pokéballs onto a tray that was sat on the counter, then encouraged Coal to join them. "Up you pop, Coal. Nurse Joy will heal you up, just like Auburn did last night.""Chimchar," Coal said. He climbed up the strap of Jetta's bag and jumped across to the counter, looking up inquisitively at the nurse. "Thank you. Come along with me, Coal. Auburn, why don't you and your friend sit down. I shouldn't be long," Joy said, picking up the tray with Jetta's pokéballs on. "Actually, Jetta was wondering about maybe some food? She's a trainer from Hoenn travelling around the region," Auburn said, just catching Nurse Joy before she disappeared into the back office. "Oh, well take her through to the canteen then. I'm sure there's still a selection of breakfast foods out. Jetta, you can help yourself. Auburn, I'm afraid you'll have to go without, since you're not a travelling trainer," Nurse Joy said. She seemed a little embarrassed to turn Auburn down - like she usually wouldn't give a second thought to letting Auburn tuck in to some food - but with that reprimand hanging over her, it seemed she had to be a bit tougher with everything. "That's fine, I already ate," Auburn said. Jetta followed her friend through to a sort of canteen area, where there were four tables, each with four seats, and there was a refrigerated display cupboard with all kinds of berries, fruits and milks. Then there was a rack with some toast and a sort of lit-up hotplate, only designed to keep food warm rather than to cook it, with some cooked meats and eggs and pancakes all in different sections. Jetta got herself a modest selection from each food group as well as some fresh fruit juice to wash it all down. Then the two headed to a table and sat down to talk and eat--with Auburn stealing a little of everything from Jetta's tray. She'd definitely not eaten before leaving her home. But Jetta didn't mind that. She wasn't a big eater anyway. Before she'd finished Nurse Joy came through with Coal on her shoulder and two pokéballs in her hands. She handed them over to Jetta, and Coal jumped down to the table, then down into Jetta's lap, all very quietly. "Everyone's just fine now. Don't hesitate to come back any time you want.""Thank you Nurse Joy," Jetta said with a smile. "We're going to head out to battle soon, but I might be back later for a room if that's okay?""You'll be more than welcome. Have a good day," Joy replied. Then she gave Auburn a look and feigned wiping some crumbs from the corner of her mouth, before smirking, turning and walking away.

╭↖╯.................... 「Chase Forrester」 .....................╭↘╯ Chase followed Jetta into the pokémon centre. "I hadn't really thought about it." He admitted as they approached the desk. Joltik jumped off Chase shoulder, on to the desk and up Nurse Joy's arm. Nurse Joy giggled. "Well hello there little one.""Damnit bug get back here, don't bother Nurse Joy, you're fine!" Chase scolded. "It's perfectly all right." Nurse Joy replied with a smile. She picked Joltik up and asked. "Are you low on volts?" Joltik hopped around excitedly. Nurse Joy reached under the desk and pulled out an object that looked a lot like a voltmeter, except this one generated electricity. She turned it on and held the prongs close together so a spark generated and electricity passed through the prongs. Joltik sucked it all out and into it's body, it's yellowy hair glittered with renewed energy. "Here." Nurse Joy said handing Chase the meter. "It's solar powered so as long as it gets some sun to charge you can use it whenever joltik is feeling a little unenergised." "Oh wow, thank you very much Nurse Joy." Chase thanked, taking the meter and shrugging off his backpack to put the object away. "Thank Nurse Joy Joltik.""Jooooltiktik!"Nurse Joy smiled. "Happy to help""Sorry Jetta." Chase said to the girl. "You came here to heal your pokémon and I'm taking all of Nurse Joy's time." He stepped aside to let Jetta hand over her pokémon and went to look at a map on the wall. The map detailed where the gyms of the Kanto region were. It looked to him like the next gym was through the mountains. Chase figured since he planed to train Onix in the mountains and Jetta probably wanted to get to the next gym, that he could find a pokémon on the way. He waited until Jetta was finished with Nurse Joy to tell her his plan. ╭↖╯ ╭↘╯

~* Jetta Moon ~* When Chase and Joltik were quite finished butting in... Well, it was just Joltik really, not Chase. Jetta supposed she hadn't got over his 'newbie' comments from earlier in the day - there was no other reason she could think why she'd immediately blame him when he hadn't done anything. Unless she fancied him... Bleugh. Moving on to a less disgusting thought! "Here you go," Jetta said, handing over her pokéballs, while Coal jumped up onto the front desk. "We won the badge! Now we need healing up and then we're off to... to wherever Chase says we should go. Speaking of, where did-?"Jetta looked around and saw that Chase had gone over to the map on the wall. "Why don't you go and wait with him?" Nurse Joy suggested. "I'll bring your pokémon over to you in a minute."

╭↖╯.................... 「Chase Forrester」 .....................╭↘╯ Chase looked back over his free shoulder and saw Jetta approach. "Oh hey, check it out." He said tapping the map. "The next gym is in Cerulean City. To get there we need to go through this mountain. Before I bumped into you I was heading there to try and train Onix up a bit anyway. So we could head that way together and maybe I'll find another pokémon to catch there." Chase wasn't really all that focused on catching more pokémon, but seeing Jetta battle gave him motivation. Right now he couldn't even enter the gym challenge, and that was more embarrassing than being a poor trainer at this moment in time for Chase. He had beaten Millie with ease, but he knew he couldn't underestimate Jetta. "You know, the way you beat that regirock was amazing! You'll probably wipe the floor with me, but would you battle me some time?" Chase felt nervous about asking, but he knew he needed to challenge himself. Jetta was his rival now after all and he wanted to impress her as much as she impressed him. ╭↖╯ ╭↘╯

~* Jetta Moon ~* Jetta nodded along as Chase explained about the next gym and the mountain between here and there, then she began to smile when he told her how impressed he was with the way she handled Brock's Regirock. When he asked if she'd battle him someday she was a little unsure. He was a pokémon school graduate, after all, and that was the equivalent of having all eight badges. "Maybe when we're on level ground. I mean, when I've got eight badges. Or, y'know, if I'm feeling confident one time, maybe then we can battle. But come on, I've only just got my first badge. You'd wipe the floor with me."As Jetta finished up talking Nurse Joy walked up behind her, carrying a tray of three pokéballs and a chimchar. Coal looked to be enjoying being carried... perhaps he was being pampered too much. "Thank you, Nurse Joy. Coal, how about you go in your pokéball for a while?" Jetta asked. "Chimchar," Coal grumbled a little. It sounded like a complaint - which was strange, coming from him. "Come on, Coal," Jetta said, taking her pokéballs from the tray and placing them in her bag. "You've spent lots of time out, anyway. I promise to let you know if I need you.""Chimchar..." Coal reluctantly agreed. He jumped down from the tray and stood before Jetta, ready for her to aim his pokéball at him and zap him into it. "I'll see you again later," Jetta spoké to the device containing her pokémon. Then she turned back to Chase. "Now! Shall we get going? East, right?"
