Azeneth put one paw in front of the other, trudging along with her uncle Desher. She had been traveling with him for years now, and was growing increasingly tired of being forced to keep her only living blood relative as a companion. She wanted to explore new things and fight for something and for other people. She wanted to go out by herself and find out what life had to offer. In essence, she wanted new companionship.

The heat was growing by the hour as the sun made its way up to the peak of the sky. She stared up at it momentarily, letting the brightness blind her for just a moment. She stared up ahead, seeing nothing but white as she blinked her eyes and placed one paw in front of the other, each one pushing deeper and deeper into sand. Then, her eye caught something. A temple stood a couple strides away. Curious, she sped up her pace and ran up towards it, her tail risen slightly in excitement. She desperately wanted something new in her life; a purpose.

The coolness of the morning had long since evaporated hours ago, but it was only as the sun began to climb higher into the sky above that the heat had really begun to set in. Even after all her time here, Mamake still couldn't quite accustom herself to the sweltering climate. Carefully arranging herself in the shade of one of the tall sphinx-like statues that stood in two long rows before the entrance of the temple. This particular spot not having been chosen at random. Anyone would have recognized the slender, lizard-like lioness perched on the back of the towering stone figure as the waterbuck's estranged daughter. Well, anyone who was a member of the pride, that is. Do you have to do that now? I worry that you might overheat your brain being so close to the sun up there.

There was a mild implication of worry in the doe's voice as she lifted her gaze to stare at Beltaine. Greeted by the lioness' vibrant blue eyes from beneath a thick, calico forelock. It was only in this position as the cream colored female peered down from her perch that such a sight was visible. At eye level Beltaine's bangs always seemed to curtain her face. A youthful smile curling her maw almost in answer itself before she finally spoke. Well.. seems like as good a time as any. It's only going to get warmer. Besides.. I'm almost finished with this one.

Her gentle voice attempted to reassure her mother, though Mamake's attention had already seemed to stray. Puzzled by the sudden distracted behavior Beltaine craned her neck towards the distance, watching the approaching lioness as she dashed towards them. She could hear the waterbuck below, voice filled with amusement. Looks like we have a new addition to the pride...

Bel could hardly muster much enthusiasm though. Socializing had never been her strong point, attention awkwardly averting back to the facial features of the statue she attempted to carefully refurbish. She's going to pass out from heat exhaustion if she keeps running like that...

[Note: I haven't gotten Beltaine recerted yet, but she's a pride member. ^^; ]

Aze was really beginning to feel the heat of the sun now. Her coat sucked in the midday heat as she willed herself to go further, but was being tempted to stop running and lie in the sand, although she knew that in doing so, she would be risking her life. She became aware of the poignant thirst growing in her mouth, and the loud rumbling of her stomach. She hadn't hunted in days, and now she was losing her energy. The only thing pulling her forward was the entrance to the temple, standing tall and strong.

She panted and slowed down somewhat, but was still at a fast speed. Running was like a rhythm; once you are in it, you just keep at it. She came to complete halt before the temple. Her muscles ached, her head hung low, and her mouth hung open in thirst. She had to catch her breath before looking up at her surroundings.

First, she noticed a long row of cat-like statues leading towards the temple. Their shapes looked like felines, but perhaps they were of some ancient descent, as she felt as though she recognized them somewhat and felt a sense of familiarity when looking at them. She sighed, and noticed a lioness and a waterbuck. All she could think was, they look... satiated. The hunger and the heat were getting to her sanity. Or what was left of her sanity that is.

She was in no mood to put up a smile and introduce herself, but she didn't want to come off as rude. She approached the tall figure, and looked up to address the lioness. "Umm, hey there." She didn't know what else to say. I'm dying of thirst! Where are we? Who are you? What are those statues? Give me a place to stay! were all the things running through her mind, but she kept quiet.

You could stand to be a little less introverted. We owe the Tuait'tekem a lot. It wouldn't hurt to welcome others as warmly as we were welcomed. Mamake stated with a tone that wasn't entirely without reprimand. She was already gathering her hooves beneath her to stand, more than willing to aid the unfamiliar lioness in any manner that she was capable of. Gingerly stepping out of the shade of the statue--where Beltaine lounged like some giant sand lizard--and forward to greet the female who slowed in her approach, the waterbuck's gentle voice called out cheerfully. Intercepting before she could quite reach Bel.

Hello there! Welcome to the Tuait'tekem! Oh.. my my my.. you look parched! We should get you to the lagoon quickly, poor dear. Come on then, I'll lead you there. We can talk along the way... are you just passing through? Perhaps you're looking for a place to settle down? Rose colored eyes were examining the yellowed hue of the new comer's pelt. Dusty though it was from travel, she was sure with a bath and a good grooming this lioness would fit in just fine. Stepping just past the line of stone guardians Mamake waited patiently for the other to follow.

Above them, Beltaine grimaced inwardly. Her mother chose to look at every situation in a positive light. It was a personality trait that the Artisan had never quite been able to pick up herself. Though not everything about the Tuait was bad, her other foster mother Kimya and the Vizier Matifu--to name a few, Bel could also name a small share of pride members that hadn't made settling into their new life particularly worry free. Tch..

Listening in on the one-sided conversation beneath her the young sculptor could barely believe what she was hearing. It was just like Mamake to greet a strange predator in such a carefree manner. There was no way that she was going to allow the most precious person in her life escort a stray on her own. The goddess only knows what could have happened. She's probably just as hungry as she is thirsty. Beltaine thought grimly while sliding down from her perch to land lightly on the ever shifting terrain.

Jogging across the grounds, she wasn't a particularly large lioness. In actuality the lanky cat was embarrassingly small to be full grown, but that wouldn't stop her from fighting to the death to protect her mother if the need arose. Adding quietly, though she didn't meet the other female's gaze, I guess I'll go too.. I could use a drink.
