While out hunting (as a slave) Shibasa had picked up an awesome looking scull and decided it would make a good hat. He was still getting used to the weight, but he ignored that fact, trotting through the trees as he went to gather fruit (as a slave.)

Okay, so the slave thing was starting to grate on him a little, especially after that heart to heart he had had with the blue bubbles lady. Why was he a slave to females and cubs? It was like an irritating itch on the back of his neck--wait, that was Nobo.

"What are you doing back there?" Shibasa asked the vulture.

"I don't like the hat," Nobo complained. "It's not fluffy."

"It's a scull, of course it's not fluffy." Shibasa stopped at a tree, rearing up and pressing his paws against the trunk to shake it.

Well, this was a curious sight... A bright red lion in the Mafuatano lands... Okay, not that curious. Mahiri was just pretending it to be curious. The dust-brown cub stalked, a grin on his face. He'd been wondering where Shibasa was, wanting to have some fun ordering him around. Maybe he'd try and claim that skull of his, or find out what animal it had come off of. Still being young, they weren't permitted out and about to do any kind of hunting, or near prey animals, for fear of getting hurt. There weren't many cubs, after all. In total... Five so far, and one juvenile. Which made for a very boring life when the juvenile wanted nothing to do with the cubs, two cubs were girls, and two were his brothers. So he settle for heckling the slave.

Mahiri was stalking Shibasa, and Chata was stalking Mahiri in turn. The gray-blue cub kept low, stalking his brother. Mahiri was up to no good, and he was intent on stopping him. Where Mahiri seemed to enjoy creating trouble, Chata was intent on stopping it. That was why he was intent on being a guard for the pride when he grew up. With a flick of his tail, he started to circle around.

Shibasa shook the tree, making it sway back and forth and the fruit fall to the ground hard. Had he realized that there were cubs that could be hit by the fruit he wouldn't have shaken the tree so hard, but he was busy having a conversation with his annoying sidekick--er, familiar. And Nobo just didn't care. Besides, Nobo was busy trying not to fall off of his lion.

"Hey! Warn me when you're going to do something like that!" Nobo complained, clinging to the back part of Shibasa's mane.

"That hurts, jackass," Shibasa muttered, dropping down and turning to gather the fruit. It was then that he saw the cubs.

Crouch, stalk, wiggle... And then Mahiri jumped forward, intent on attaching to Shibasa's face. "Found you!" The cub, ever full of energy like any cub, was intent on making the pride's only current slave really WORK. "Now you gotta do what I tell you!"

Behind him, Chata made no effort to hide. Not that it was too grandly easy, his purple ears popped out. Which was why his aim was to be a guard. He had no idea what Mahiri was shooting for, besides Annoyer. "Chata, leave him alone, he's busy enough!" The cub paused, staring at a fruit. Quite unlike their patron god, mortal lions really weren't much for fruit eating. But he had to admit, it DID look juicy... He poked it with a paw, and upon it rolling over, found a bad spot. "Ew, this one can become a new tree..."

Shibasa blinked as he was jumped by the cub, then let out a laugh as he dodged the attach attempt. "I gotta do what you tell me to, huh?" he asked, wondering if the cub even realized that his head was bigger than he was. He didn't seem like the type to care.

The red lion glanced over at Chata, wondering what was wrong with the fruit, accidentally leaving himself exposed to Mahiri's attack. "What's wrong with it?" he asked.

Chata pointed to a spot on it. "It's got a bad spot. It's no good to eat. But it can be put somewhere else to grow new tree." He flicked an ear, looking at the other fruits. It didn't take him long to find one that was good. "This one's good to eat, though!"

With the slave distracted, Mahiri dropped into the grass and started to stalk around. While his puff of white mane popped out against the rest of his coat, he didn't allow it to hinder him as he moved around behind Shibasa, only to pop out of the grass and pounce at his tail. "HAH!"

The tail swished out of pouncing just as he attacked, obviously taunting him with its un-pounce-ability (if that was even a word.) "You want to help me with that?" Shibasa asked the cub examining the fruit. "I ain't got any practice picking fruit. Heck, even my vulture doesn't eat it."

Nobo had taken up a spot in the tree, not quite sure what one did with cubs (other than possibly eat them.) He looked offended at the very idea of eating fruit.

Pouncing thoroughly thwarted, Mahiri settled to sitting down and glaring at Shibasa. Just what COULD one have a slave do? He looked up at the vulture. "You, slave bird, find me something to eat! That's not fruit. You can have the eyes of whatever you find!" That was the one who liked eyes, right? It had to be, the green one just liked dead things, period.

"Oh, I can help just fine!" He shot a glare at his brother. "Unlike Mahiri.. I see everyone on equal ground." Which got hard when it involved bugs. Suddenly, something occurred to him. "Shibasa... Where did you come from? Mother came from a pride far away, and so did Kumbuko..." He didn't know where their patron gods came from, but he didn't know how to ask about that.

"You can hunt, little thing?" Nobo asked him, tilting his head at the little cub. "How about a monkey? I can take you to a monkey! Monkey eyes are delicious!"

"Nobo," Shibasa said warningly. "Nothing bigger than he is." Which was reckless in its own right, but hell, why not? "And I don't remember where I came from anymore. It was a really long time ago," he told Chata, going to the next tree to shake out the fruit. "Hell, I don't even know where I'm going."
PostPosted: Wed Apr 13, 2011 10:38 am

Mahiri's ears went back. "No, YOU go hunt. By extension of being partnered with him, you're a slave, too, and you gotta do what I say! And I say, you go find me some food!" Then he eyeballed Shibasa. "As for you, carry me on your back!"

Chata'd had enough. He went over and jumped on his brother, wrestling until he was sitting on the other cub. "You can stop bossing them around now! Especially while I'M here!" He jabbed his brother with a paw. "You're only encouraging a cruel action!"

He struggled under his brother, glaring at him. "You know what the ways of the pride are! Everybody joining has to spend time as a slave to understand hardships better! I'm helping him understand!"

Shibasa sat down, watching them curiously. Ahh, so that was it. Well, he had sort of figured. "Do you guys want to hear a story about my hardships?" he asked them curiously.

"It's a hum-dinger," Nobo called down, spreading his wings and flapping so he was on the ground to listen to story time. "This story's older than you are!"

Shibasa glanced at him. "Hum dinger?" he repeated with a snort.

"Always wanted to use that term."

The dust-brown cub reached over, batting at the bird. "Hush up, you! Let him talk!" It didn't matter how old the story was. A story was a story, and he wanted to hear it! "And where's that meat, anyway? I told you to go get it!"

The gray-blue cub rolled his eyes, before kicking his brother. "Stop that." He then turned back to the red lion, eyes wide with anticipation. "What was it? And how was it?" It made him wonder about life outside the world of the Mafuatano lands.

"We'll get the meat after the story," Shibasa said as Nobo hopped out of batting reach. "I'm missing a piece of my soul," he said, a bit dramatically, because the situation called for it. "I was barely grown and kicked out of my pride. I didn't know how to hunt, and I was starving to death. When I saw a bunny bounce past I chased it for miles and miles, until I couldn't tell where I was."

He looked around at the trees for a second. "I was in the desert. There was no life to be seen for miles, and the sun was hot and heavy, making me even more thirsty and hungry than I'd ever been before."
PostPosted: Wed May 11, 2011 8:56 am

Mahiri let out a surprised sound. "How can you be missing part of your soul?!" It sounded absolutely horrible! "Can't you get it back? Save the last piece of yourself?" Normally, he wouldn't be concerned nor worried about it, but it seemed like so shocking something to not HAVE.

Chata, too, watched Shibasa with wide eyes. "Did you die?" Okay, that was a silly question to ask... He was obviously right there in front of them. But he'd been in the desert and alone. "Did an evil god or goddess take a piece of your soul?" Being exposed to gods, he felt it was a valid question.

"Yes, I died," Shibasa drawled, amused at the question. "But I survived! And yeah, it was by a goddess. Her name's Ubuge, she's the goddess of greed." He looked at the cubs with a slight smile. "You're pretty smart. I didn't realize a goddess could do something like that to me until after it happened."

He returned to his story telling, since it'd been interrupted. "I was starving, dying of thirst, and she appeared out of nowhere, huge and covered with jewelry and other things. I thought she was there to help," he said quietly, self disgust hinted at in his eyes. "I was an idiot."
