Out in the rugged Rogue lands, it wasn't hot or sunny like most of the days were. In fact, a storm seemed to be brewing off in the distance, and the young lioness Mapenzi stood off in the plains upon a lone rock watching as the darkening clouds approached the land. A thunderstorm, no doubt. Her ears twitched at the electricity that filled the air and the fur on her striped tail bristled. Her face seemed solemn towards it, but at least it cooled a little. The weathed was just plain muggy now if anything. "Well, at least this means rain. Rain always brings more water." She mumbled to herself, thinking about the current situation at hand. If it was a thunderstorm, then that would mean lightning would come with it. Mapensi at least knew Lightning wa sa dangerous earthly factor with storms.

Small paws were surprisingly fleet as the cheetah sprinted across the sands. His tail flagged behind him like a banner, flicking as the humid air hit his face. The clouds above were black and rolling with thunder, faint, but there. And soon it would rain. It wasn't the rain that bothered him. It was the lightning. His fur stood up on end as he scanned the skies, running as fast as his paws and lungs would take him. He hated storms. Always had, always would. The memory of his mother flicked across his mind and he shuddered. A cramp in his thigh stabbed him with pain and he slowed down, ears flat against his skull. Damn this weather... He hated spring. With his head low, he moved as fast as he could...blindly into the path of a waiting lioness.

A loud crack of thunder sounded and it boomed over the sky, rolling towards her direction. She seemed so focused on the incoming storm that she didn't even sense a cheetah trying to speed his way to over to find some shelter. Mapenzi knew though, that trees were not safe in a storm. So she sat there in the middle of the field, eyes intenetly watching, waiting, for some sort of sign. Lightning. That's what she was searching for at the moment.
"Thunder... where's the blue flash?"

"Huh?" Velo's voice was thin and sharp as he skidded to a halt. Damn. Right in front of him was a girl with a pattern of rainbows across her pelt. He hesitated, though instincts screamed 'Take cover!'. He knew it was the ghosts of his past haunting him, but still... "It's gonna rain any minute now, girlie. Dontcha wanna take cover?" He quirked his head to the side, though his eyes traced down the rainbows across her paws. "Beautiful colors," he quipped before he could stop himself. "Make them yourself? Betchca your parents were a pallet of pastels." He talked quick, but slow enough that she'd catch his words and maybe the faintest hint of an accent.

"Ah!?" the young lioness who seemed idle in the feild jumped a little at the sound of a male voice! Oh no, her eyes dreaded to know if it was a lion or not, but upon turning her head back, she saw a rather dashing cheetah with a dark quilt splatted with rainbow dots. Her eyes widened in surprise; it was... quite a shock to her to see sucha pelt. Her jaw was slightly agape as another booming thunder rolled their way and she was snapped back to reality. The good thing is... Mapenzi didn't fear other male cats such as Cheetahs or Leopards.
"Take... cover? Parents??" He seemed to be speasking so fast that she couldn't answer all of his questions and ramblings. "It's not safe to take cover in a thunderstorm. Especially under trees. the blue flashes like trees from what I can remember..." Mapenzi mumbled softly as she looked over the Cheetah once more before looking to the clouds.

He seemed surprised to have surprised her, blue eyes widening at the utter fear lurking in her own gaze. Oh heck, was he that scary? A little high-strung, but he was a friendly guy, honest! Once she seemed to notice he wasn't...stalking her or something, she seemed to settle behind a facade of shyness. He smiled at her. "Nevermind," he said, waving a small paw in the air then pulling his ears back. "I hate storms. Hate, hate... Storms bring bad things." Though when she spoke of the blue flashes--lightning, had to be--he straightened up. "Well...I don't want the lightning to find me," he admitted softly. "But sitting out in the middle of a storm seems...strange, doesn't it, chica?" He shook his head and jumped as thunder rippled across the clouds once more, obviously spooked. But the girl wasn't fearful at all... "You like storms then?"

Mapenzie smiled a little to herself before answers, her tail swaying slightly to the left side. "I do. I like the rain. Rain is a good thing because it makes the watering holes bigger for all of us to drink. But the lightning is not good. Not at all." She turned her head back to look at the rainbow spotted cheetah. "I know it seems silly to sit in the middle of nowhere during a storm, but it's safer than being by a tree. The blue flashes like the earth, it seems. They try to find ways to get down to the ground." She flipped the white bangs to the side. She seemed pretty calm about the whole ordeal.
"You seem like a scaredy cat of a little loud noise though... h-haha...~" She nervously let a chuckles escape before slapping a paw over her mouth, black ears flattening. "I-I'm s-so so s-s-sorry for laughing...!" Suddenly she had apologized.

Velo shifted his weight from side to side, unable to stay still as he watched this lioness... This very brave, very bright lioness. He had to grin, despite the situation as she spoke of the rain. His eyes drifted up, boring into the dark clouds churning and he held his breath, heart speeding up a little.
"Wh-What?" Lightning liked trees? He blinked, ears docking back. "Well...then it doesn't seem safe to take cover in the trees, but what about a cave, yeah? A cave is safe? Safe from the rain and the lightning."
And when she laughed, Velo chuckled nervously. "Yeahyeah, I'm a baby," he said, unaffected by her giggling. "It's...not the thunder that gets me. That's just a precursor to the lightning. The blue flashes," he said. "I don't...like the lightning." He dropped his gaze to her rainbow-splashed paws and frowned. He'd really like to find a cave and hide until the storm passed.

The young lioness nodded and looked back to the cheetah. "Caves are good. Caves keep the rain off us and the lightning away." Suddenly a bright flash of lightning caught her off guard and she jumped to her feet, a little spooked by it and turned to Velo. "U-Uhm... ah... m-maybe we could find shelter together until the rain passes? It's going to storm really soon." The black clouds were already hovering overhead of them. Goodness, that had rolled in quick.
Mapenzi started to walk away a little bit, pawing at the ground carefully. She could feel the high tension of electricity in the air.

Velo's head ducked at the bright flash, his eyes pressed tightly shut as he prayed to the Goddess above to take the fear away. Panic rose in his throat as he hunkered to the ground, looking at the girl as she spoke. Yes! Yes, anywhere but here! "You know of a place, yeah?" he asked, ears flat against his skull. His blue eyes darted to the skies, searching them. "If so, let's make a run for it. I hate bad weather and it's going to start--" A raindrop on his nose, fat and round, cut him off. He grimaced. "Raining. Lovely. Now we'll get wet."

"U-Uhm... n-n-no, I don't know any places about here. But if you do, we better run there quickly!" Mapenzi was already ahead of the rainbow splotched cheetah as the rain began to make it's way down from the darkened, grey clouds. The storm had hit the Roguelands and the large droplets of water pelted the ground with a patter. Instead of jogging, Mapenzi was already running, looking about the rocky area they happened to be in for any sort of shelter.
