Amelie and Aiolos Word count: 1706
Aiolos wasn’t a picky eater but for the most part, his diet was that of fish. Everything and anything he ate, he wanted more than anything was fish. He glided along the way.. He hadn’t eaten in some time and knew that his fat reserves may be dwittling down. Lucky for him, when he did get to eat, a lion is whom served him a delicious fish. A gourmet.. but he was helpful to the lion as well. Ah. Living with a surfer was fun but he seemed to have lost his way from them and he thought the winds must have changed his paths. One day, they would meet again so he wasn’t worried about it as far as his heart was concerned. Today’s flight felt free and easy. As if the world was his to look after as he gazed upon the savannah. Gliding away.. but no rivers to fish in.. no oceans to fish in neither and that was hazarding him a meal and some fat reserves. So, he slowly started to drive down to the ground. Perking calmly in a nearby tree, scanning the area for any creatures as his stomach growled in return. Until a particular moving ‘rock’ caught his eye. He used his good eye and wiggled himself happily. “FOOD!~ Wait.. well.. It’s a hare. No matter. Food is food and yea can’t be picky~” So he swooped below to snoop out the weak point before taking the hare.
Elie was just short of harvesting. Picking up a few berries and herbs. “Oh this one will do- oh and that one too~” She plucked a few here and there, turning her head to look in the direction of the river. “Ah a nice drink might help.” She was somewhat of a traveler but somehow she found her stay in places for a few days then off she went. Mothering who she could before she left. Making sure they were settled but for today she was just off doing her own thing. No one to take care of. Trotting along her merry way with no sign of danger crossing her path. Since she really didn’t ever see someone as a threat. Her personality was too forward for that to seem defenseless. As she came up to the water she felt her body being picked up. Turning her head she saw the bird and looked back down around her tummy and felt the claws almost crush her. Her berries dropping on the floor before she lost all thought and started to flail. “YOU GET ME DOWN RIGHT NOW YOU FEATHER BRAIN! D< OR SO HELP ME I WILL TARE YOUR FEATHERS OUT ONE BY ONE AND HAVE YOU SIT IN A CORNER RIGHT NOW!” Taking her little nap sack and slapping him over the head.
The once fishing eagle probably had gotten in to a lot more trouble than he originally thought. Food! He thought! But that food almost never FAUGHT back. Running away is one thing but hitting him was another. After a few knocks to the head the bird’s body swayed and swayed til then went crashing down in to the branches. “AAK!!!” He slurred out before getting hit with a few branches down the way and letting go of the poor hare. Unlike him, she gripped and knew what to do but he was blindsided by her and had a branch go right in to his wing. Leafs filled his beak and that very angry Aiolos was slowly coming out. Sadly- he was in too much pain to act on it. “Ow~ ow~ wing broken ow~” He chirped and tried to maneuver himself to check on it. Finally getting to his rump at least to slowly pull the wing over. In its awkward position, it definitely looked broken.
Gripping on a tree branch and hanging for a few moments before she heard the loud yelling. She let herself roll right off the branch and started to climb up to where the bird had gone. Surely he was hurt after that painful scream. Her ears went down as she homed in on him then was able to prop her head up to see him. From what looked like a little nook that he fell and his wing in not too good of shape. “Bird- you are hurt~” Letting her sack fall to her side as she climbed up in to his chest. Putting her paws on to his fluffy chest. Slapping him right on his chest. “What is the matter with you~ Lost your mind trying to eat me! My word- I never felt so ..so.. ARG!” Slapping him a few more times before taking up his wing. Examining it without fear. Hearing him screech when she took ahold of it. “Oh hush now you big baby~ let me see it!” Slowly letting it open then close. “It is not too bad but it needs mending.” Seeming to look interested in it before looking him straight in the eye. Her face was soft and mother like and she had an interesting way to look at one that made you feel like you were doing something wrong.
“Ow- You~ HARE! THAT HURTS~” He yelled out to her and letting her finally take a look. A very angry Aiolos but couldn’t stop himself from letting himself be looked at. When she started to wail on him, he merely turned his head and let her have at him. In some regards to birds. Well this would be a very sissy situation on his part but on the other hand. Bravery on her part. Never had he met prey that had went off on him like she did. As she wailed- he only took it til she stopped and when she took his wing another wailing cry came out of him. A caw like no one ever heard. But – after all that she was nice. His eyes slitted as he got quiet. Calming himself. “I can’t move with you on me- and are you done.” He huffed and puffed out his chest.
Flailing a little, she quickly looking in sack and dug for a stick, and a few long leafs. Quickly she started to jerk the wing around. Wrapping it in this stick and leafs. “Hare- I HAVE a name young bird.” She continued with more of so forward attitude as she went to tending the wing. “Yes- have me move and then be fresh meat to another bigger bird. Unlike you- I will not let that happen stupid bird.” She huffed and continued on til she leaned back and saw how it was wrapped. Tight, but it looked ok for the most part. “That will do.” Then a moment of silence. “For now.” Before hitting him over the head before crawling off of him. “You do well to follow me home and I can get that fixed up. No way you’re in a condition to fly now.” Crossing her arms and looking down at him. “Well get up~ Your wing is hurt not your feet.” She huffed at him then looked down before rummaging through her sack. “Hmm hmm~”
This hare was CRAZY! Gods above, he didn’t know what he had gotten himself in to. That’s when he vowed to only eat fish now. Non were ever this noisy but when he saw the work she did on his wing. Slowly he outstretched it before recoiling it again. It hurt badly but with her nagging about getting up and how rude she was. For good reason, but still. He slowly pushed his way up and looked about. Getting down? How was HE supposed to follow her down if it was one heck of a long way down? Then he looked at her. “Your crazier than I thought you were. Hare..” Before looking down again.
“Again- unlike you~ I know many things~ and a little ways down never stopped me before. Stop looking only to your beak and look beyond it.” Shaking her head before starting to throw down a bunch of branches. Tearing the loose ones from their bearings and throwing them down. “Well- HELP~” She gave a cocky attitude before the bird too started to pluck branches from the trunk with his beak. Moving slower than her of course but threw them where she was throwing them. Looking down after a little bit before seeing a lil lump of branches and leafs. Elie smiled, as she watched the bird help before taking a strong branch and throwing a road around it. Attaching it to another branch that she started to hop on, thump on and pretty much use all her energy in taring down. For a small thing.. She had QUITE the strength.
After throwing enough down. The bird started to aid in pushing down the branch until he heard the sudden sound of what seemed to be thunder.. Then tearing before he squawked as he started to fall. What MADNESS WAS THIS!? Feeling the flightless feeling til his good leg was caught and he was pulled upwards. When he looked up, he saw the hare holding on to his leg as she gripped the rope she had wrapped around another branch making them ‘bounce’ close to the ground before she let go and they fell on top of soft leafs and branches. Like a bed. Her laugh was soft, and it felt joyous enough to be contagious as he too laughed…
Just because you are a bird, or a hare, or something more. Friendship, can be found in the oddest of places. After their laughing, the hare rolled over and smiled at her new friend. “My name is Amelie…not hare. Remember that~” She poked his beak before seeing him recoil his wing. It ached still- and that she wouldn’t forget. Quickly she helped him out of the lump of branches and leafs before he shook himself off. “And my name, is Aiolos. Not stupid bird.” “Yea yea~ Its all the same~” She waved her paw off before taking his other wing and leading the way to her little house.
“Stupid bird.” ”Stupid crazy hare.”
And thats how the story began.... of the friendship between the unlikely pair.
