User Image Fula'd once again lost his shadow. Too bad there wasn't any tree sap that could glue his doggone shadow to his paws where he belonged (he knew, he'd tried, and was never doing it again). With a heavy sigh he crept around the graveyard carefully peering intently at every shadow.

He'd just come in from a scouting trip around their lands and he was tired from the trip. Why did Thela have to pick this time to scoot off like he was on fire? It wasn't fair. Fula just wanted a nap in his skull. That's all, not too much to ask for right?

He was so intent on his thoughts of shadow murdering, and fabulous naps that he neglected to look where his paws were leading him and he narrowly missed running into a black and grey hyena. "Woops. Sorry!"

Mbezi was lost in his thoughts. They were more on the murderous side, but they had been for quite a while. He hated the male that was sort of leading the pack. But it was hard to fight against in when his mother had been missing for so long.

He snarled out at the form that had tried to dare cross his path. "Watch it!" His eyes adjusted, and he realized that it was one of the newer members. Might not be a bad idea to reverse his position - more allies, more strength?

"Er, sorry. I thought you were one of my brothers for a moment," he said, lying through his teeth.

"Hey, it's ok. I wasn't looking where I was going either." Fula took a step like he'd keep haring off but then paused. It wasn't terribly often he met up with another of the pack hyenas. After all he was a scout and spent most of his time patrolling. "I'm Fula, have you seen a shadow that doesn't belong around here? Mine's run off 'gain." He certainly hoped this gray fellow had seen it. Thela was such a pest.

Mbezi blinked a bit, trying to understand what the hyena had said to him. "Um, probably," he said in a confused manner. "Why would it run away from you?"

Normally he wouldn't try to converse with anyone else, but he was so tired of dealing with Tukutu, and wanted to see if he could gain some allies. This...Fula, though, might not be the best ally. The only way he'd be able to find out is if he kept talking to him, though.

Fula sighed heavily and plopped his but down to scratch behind his ear. This was really great. Shadow runs away, he's dead tired, and now another hyena's asking questions. "Because Thela's a real twerp." He said tiredly. "I just got home from a scouting trip and he chooses now to go running off like someone lit his shadowy tail on fire. Can't believe it. Especially after we had to drive off that stupid lion too. No rest for the weary I guess."

If Mbezi could handle Fula's multiple personality/penchant for chasing his shadow and could convince him to see things his way he'd be a good ally. Fula was strong, and a good fighter, even if he was rather fluffy and laid back about everything. It was however unlikely that he would take sides. Fula really just wanted to live and let live as long as the pack was still together.

Mbezi couldn't help but dismiss a lot of what Fula said. It wasn't really that interesting to him. It just kind of proved that Tukutu was good at bringing in the crazies. His missing mother had always been much better at good recruits. Sigh. At least adding one able body was better than losing another one.

"It's probably playing in the rib cages of the elephant skeletons," he said, half jokingly. "Things tent to congregate there a lot." Now, to wait and see just how he replied...Mbezi was enjoying this, in a not-so-nice way.

"Probably so." Fula's ears drooped a bit. "Well he wants to be away that bad he can just stay out for the time it takes me to get some flipping sleep." Despite what he said, Fula's eyes strayed towards the elephant ribs near by. So far he didn't see his stupid shadow, but Thela was tricksy if nothing else.

"Looking for him there would be like looking for an ear bone in a mile of tall grass." A thought came to him all of a sudden, "By the way, you never told me your name. You look familiar but I don't think I've ever met you." He may be crazy, laid back, and lazy when it came to interactions, but he certainly wasn't stupid.

But it'd keep you occupied, he thought. And endless amusement for me. Oh well. "I guess if 'he' wants, 'he' will return." So weird talking like that, but Mbezi didn't know what else to do. At least this seemed to work...so far. He was sooo out of his element.

"I'm Mbezi," he said, not sure if he should mention exactly what he was. Mafa, his mother, wasn't here anymore, and this hyena wouldn't know about her at all except for in name.

"Wait...you said there was a lion nearby earlier?" He bristled at the idea of lions getting near his homelands again.

"Nice ta meet you, Mbezi, I'm Fula." He scratched his ear again. Darn itches. "And yeah, the thing was getting sick, wasn't hard to drive off. Dumb kitty. Just 'cause we live in a grave yard doesn't mean we want lion bones lyin' around." Fula shook his head at the idiocy of lions.

Mbezi had to chuckle at the whole... lion bones thing. If there were some here, that would prove that they had killed their own set of lions. Get the horrible things to stay away, or face death. Still, it was a pity that this Fula didn't just kill the beast. Sick or not, it wasn't like it would bring its sickness to the pack.

"Oh. Glad it's gone then," he lied. What was the point of yelling at him if he wanted to befriend him? As...minimal as that sounded, but it was the truth. A friend to Mbezi was more like an ally, and asset to be used in the future. And he knew that the future was close.

"Keep up that good work then," Mbezi said, not sure what else to say. At least Fula should feel like he did a good job now, aye?
