Detention was a familiar place for Piper, like a home away from home inside of a prison. It wasn't really that she hated school, it was just that she found it extremely suffocating when she wanted to cloud gaze or pick clovers. That was often what landed her in these exact situations. Her parents hadn't raised her to fear authority so when she wanted to do something, she simply did it, without real consideration of the consequences. Apparently getting up in the middle of class to go to the cafeteria for a snack without permission definitely had consequences. By now it would seem like Piper would have learned those things but life lessons just kind of rolled right off her back.

Fortunately it was really hard to get Piper down and even in detention she saw the silver lining on the rain cloud - she could practice her doodling.

Piper had a rather large piece of paper stretched out across her desk and a rainbow's assortment of gel pens in her hand. There wasn't any particular method to her art, she just scribbled swirls of doodles and colored in large blocks of space with her beloved metallic gels. She didn't even notice as the overseeing teacher announced she was taking a small break and stepped out, though the handful of other students did because a soft hum of chatter sprang up in her wake.

Piper just sat in her seat, humming softly to herself, and scrawled out a rainbow of swirls - her masterpiece!

Her life was quickly becoming the same old story. How many months had she been away from this city? Dana had been daydreaming in class, caught up in her own thoughts about how... well, how she'd failed in her duty. She was a senshi. A senshi that was supposed to protect the earth, and all the people who resided on it. But when everyone had started falling into comas, her family had panicked, and she'd been forced to go with them--far away from Destiny City. Guilt sat like a weight on her shoulders, and though she had seen some old and familiar faces, she'd kept quiet and withdrawn into her own thoughts.

Okay, she might have been moping a little.

When classes had rolled around, Dana had sighed and kicked her feet and practically oozed over her desk with despair, wallowing in her self-made lament and pity. Her loud theatrics had been enough to land her a detention (though that might have been caused for openly defying the teacher when she had been politely asked to stop), and now she was repeating her swan-song within detention. She had been sitting next to some girl she didn't know, teeth grinding silently as the persistent, cheerful humming continued to pierce her own, tragic thoughts. Not even realizing the teacher had left, Dana finally lifted her head, face twisted up in a mighty scowl.

"You are ruining my concentration." Dana said scathingly, beady eyes taking in every aspect of this girl who was now the biggest obstacle in her young life. Her eyes fell to the colorful mess of scribbles on the paper, and she temporarily forgot her irritation to study it. Well. That was something, now wasn't it?

"Your rainbows could use work." She chided after a moment, probably about as much of a compliment as she could muster at the moment.

The humming stopped immediately as the silent girl next to her suddenly came to life. The scribbling, half-empty gel pen stopped where it was on the paper and the girl slowly rolled her eyes sideways to peek through the fringe of her vibrant bangs. She was silent for a second as she tried to study the girl in what she considered to be a perfectly non obvious way, convinced that her bangs would obscure any rudeness from staring. Then, convinced that she wasn't a giant bully, Piper finally sat up and smiled brightly.

Company! Yay!

She probably wouldn't have apologized even if Dan hadn't changed the subject, but when she did it turned all of Piper's attention down to her scribbles. She pursed her lips and considered them seriously for a moment, tilting her head and turning the paper sideways as if her doodles were truly serious business.

"I don't see it," she said finally with a shrug, but instead of getting down over the criticism, she just looked down at the handful of gel pens in her hand. With careful consideration she plucked one out and leaned over the side of her desk to hold it out to the stranger. It was truly an act of faith - Piper didn't share her shiny pens with anyone.

"But you could help, it can be a double rainbow then!" The smile on her face then was truly honest and completely serious. She really loved rainbows. And doodles.

Dana was watching the girl study her artwork with an ever-deepening scowl, crossing her tiny arms across her chest much like she'd seen her mother do whenever Dana decided to be sassy. This girl had best not be getting sassy with her, or there would be dire consequences. Why, she was just getting ready to tell her that her tongue would swell up, turn purple, and fall out when she was offered a shiny gel pen.

Blinking, her irritation dissipating nearly instantly, she snatched said gel pen and scooted closer to Piper in order to get a better look at her paper. "Hm. I guess that'd be fine... a double rainbow." Clearly it was a task that required her expertise, and the girl diligently began to add random and sketchy bits of color to Piper's design.

"There." She said at last, leaning back in a satisfied sort of way. The rainbow looked no better than before. In fact, it probably looked worse. "And that is how you make a rainbow."

Piper beamed from ear to ear as Dana took the pen from her and began to sketch a rainbow over the one she had already drawn. She shifted back in her seat and tilted the paper, letting the random stranger get a good view of it.

"That's wonderful!" Piper clapped her hands together once, very softly, as she examined the now complete and 'improved' art. She picked up her favorite gel pen (a very pretty aqua blue) and signed 'PIPER' in giant curling letters in the left hand corner.

"Do you want to sign your name too?" She was already shoving the paper back in Dana's direction as she asked, obviously not intending to take no for an answer. "I couldn't have finished this without you, after all."

But just as she finished speaking, her head tilted a little to the left and her eyes rolled up to the ceiling as if she were concentrating very intently on some far away sound. Only, it wasn't a sound she was hearing - there wasn't a noise in the room apart from the soft rustling as other students shifted in their seats.

The girl had to preen a little compliment, even if she already knew it was true. Piper... She studied the girl's name with more intensity than was warranted before, with sharp nod, decisively scrawled 'DANA' in the top right corner. "There. It's a masterpiece. We could make billions in a few years! People will be lining up just to get a look at rainbows as pretty as these!"

Though it wasn't possible for people's eyes to practically gleam, Dana's seemed to be managing just fine. "Dana and Piper! Artisans of the... arts!" She could see it now! They'd have their names in lights and everything! Why, they'd even have their own museum!

When Piper failed to chime in, Dana whipped her head around with a scowl, half-ready to give her a scathing lecture about paying attention to their future when she caught the expression on the girl's face. "What are you doing?" She finally had to ask, exasperated.

Then something occured to her.

"Are there spies? In the ceiling?" Evil Negaverser spies, ready to take her blessed, magical moon powers away! That simply wouldn't do!

Piper's head remained cocked at the odd angle for a few moments more, until the last of Dana's words caught her attention again. She blinked rapidly for a few seconds, as if she were just waking up from an odd daydream, then she settled her eyes on Dana.

"No, not spies, at least I don't think so." She frowned, which wasn't an appealing thing at all on Piper's childish face. It just made her look like she was pouting, though she was actually, legitimately confused.

"I think it's a ghost, in the basement. I feel it sometimes but I can never find it." Then again, she didn't say that she felt them all over the city. She'd begun to simply think she was psychic and her body was connected to all the poor, dead souls haunting Destiny City. It was a really hard job.

She glanced back down at the picture and the frown flipped quickly into a smile. Her hands came together in an enthusiastic clasp and then she reached out to pick it up and hold it out in the air, surveying their masterpiece. Only, her smile was a little faded around the edges and the crease in her brows didn't go away entirely. She could still feel it in the distance and it troubled her.

"A ghost?" Her hands slammed themselves down on the desk before she pushed herself up to her feet. It was a good thing the teacher hadn't come back yet, or she probably would have gotten her parents called for being disruptive. Again. Once upon a time, Dana would have scoffed at the mention of ghosts, but now--now that she was a super hero, she knew better. Anything she could do to help, she would do without fail. The memory of leaving Destiny City when it needed her most still haunted her.

She studied the other girl intently for a moment, sizing her up before decisively nodding to herself. "Listen up, Piper! If there's a ghost in the school, it's our job to get rid of it!" She leaned forward over the rainbow, probably getting uncomfortably close to Piper's face. "Listen--" She dropped her voice, suspiciously staring around the classroom as though concerned someone might overhear.

"If you can show me where this ghost is, I can get rid of it." The bluenette confided, tapping her cheek with a finger. "It's your duty to help me, you got that? So! C'mon!" With that, she was doing her best to snatch Piper's clasped hands to try and tug her out of her seat. She didn't know where the school's basement was, but she'd find it!

Piper stared at Dana in silent awe as she jumped up and proclaimed ghost hunting as her personal duty. Piper wished that she was that confident and brave, that she could banish ghosts. Right then, with her blue eyes staring up at her detention companion in a wide amazement, Piper was pretty convinced that Dana was the most amazing person she'd ever met. She didn't even flinch as she invaded her personal space - what was personal space to Piper anyway?

"I've got it!" she all but squealed out. She just barely managed to maneuver herself around her desk before Dan was all but dragging her to the door. If she'd been anyone else, she might have resisted, but Piper just scrambled to keep up as the brave bluenette began to march them out into the hallway. If she'd been a more logical person, she probably would have thought about the consequences of leaving detention early. Sadly, logic wasn't Piper's forte.

"We just need to find the basement door, I'm pretty sure. All I can tell right now is.. down." She began to crank out the information as soon as Dana was pulling her along the hallway. She trusted the other girl to guide her along so instead she simply narrowed her eyes and tilted her head sideways to try and concentrate as much as possible on the fickle aura of the ghost somewhere beneath their feet.

Dana's thoughts were bubbling with excitement, but she did her very best to keep her face as serious as she could. This was a grave and dire situation! She tried to kick the door open, but that failed, and she reluctantly had to fumble with the handle until she could shoulder it open dramatically, all but leaping out into the hallway. Piper's ominous statement made her nod smartly, and the young senshi paused for a moment as though having to calculate out some elaborate and complex plan.

Down into the basement, hm? Right into the heart of darkness where all evil and nasty things lurked! It took a bit of searching, but she did eventually locate a pair of heavy doors that seemed to lead downstairs. Clearly they were not meant for student use, but Dana wasn't about to be thwarted by authority!

Still holding tight onto Piper's hand, Dana yanked the doors open and glowered suspiciously into the darkness. There was probably a light, somewhere, but that would ruin the dramatic effect of it all. "Are we close?" She whispered, eyes darting from side to side in the shadows. She couldn't risk getting jumped by the enemy!

With every step that they took and every decision that Dana made, Piper's complete awe of her grew and grew. She had never met anyone so capable in her entire life and as she busted through the basement doors and led them down so confidently into the swelling darkness, Piper realized that she wasn't afraid.

Maybe Dana could really drive the ghost out of Meadowview!

"Yeah," she tried to whisper back, except her excitement overwhelmed her and it came out like more of a yelp. Her free hand flew up and covered her mouth as she realized that she wasn't being very sneaky and above her dark hand in the darkness, her eyes looked instantly apologetic.

Unfortunately, that wasn't quite enough for whatever was lurking in the darkness.

Ahead of them there was a deep growl and an ominous shuffle. Piper frowned in worry and tugged a little on Dana's hand, trying to drag her back towards the stairs and the light that shined down through the open door.

"Come on, let's go back," this time she actually managed to whisper, but only because of the sudden fear that gripped her by the throat.
