Eta Squad HOME BASE: Welcome to the Eta Squad HOME BASE. Inside the home base tent are a couple cots in addition to tables holding about a week's worth of simple supplies, though there is no food around. For some reason with this gask mask on, you never feel hungry. Or thirsty. Or like you need to use the bathroom, though you still feel sleepy from time to time and worn out. The home base itself is a simple tent, easily identifiable by its bold darkblue material. SUPPLIES: Your home base shelter for your group comes equipped with all necessary supplies. Inside the accommodating tent lie three tables. The first table simply contains exactly twelve first aid kits, all neatly organized in rows of six, one for each person. The second table seems to have been organized with a fair amount of dedication, on each backpack is written only a number. Once again, there are exactly twelve backpacks, organized in rows of six. The last table is the simplest of all and simply contains one map. There is not much else written on the map though. ((OOC: ICly post to pick up your supplies, and ROLL ONE 6-sided dice to determine your weapon that is in the bag you randomly picked up: 1- A handgun, but it is full of rubber pellets 2- A small dagger 3 - Extra bandages 4 - A small hand club 5 - A wooden stake 6. Small nunchucks Please go to the Battle rules to make sure you read up on HOW TO BATTLE, and what effect your weapon has. )) It is NOT SAFE to linger too long at home base, you can and will be attacked anywhere, including your home base should an intruder decide to step into this thread. How you want to travel and approach things is up to you, but make sure if you leave the thread note EXIT THREAD in your post to do so. exclaim At no point can your character be in two threads at once - doing so without GM approval can and will get your banned from this event. exclaim

This..couldn't be real
It had to be a dream. A hallucination. He must be sick with a fever. There had to be some sort of logical explanation as to why he was here, and what was happening. Perhaps he had been kidnapped? taken away and drugged so he had lost all his memories, and was now being used for some sick government experiment.
That sounded plausible.
His hands shook as they lifted up towards the mask that covered his face, He...couldn't even remember what he looked like. How strange. Most people knew what they looked like. Why couldn't he?
There was only one thing he knew at this moment. His 'name', the number he have been given for now, was η V. V...the roman numeral for the number five....although how he knew what roman numeral was, or where he learned that...it was a mystery.
He took a deep breath. For now..he would just have to deal with it. He would try to survive. That was all he could do. It was best not to think to much, focus on one thing at a time. That way things would be more manageable....
Through the eye holes, he could see a desk in front of him. first aid kits were located on it. Another desk was nearby, containing more bags. Well...he could count for one thing. He would not be going empty handed.
Carefully, he picked up one of the first aid kits, and then finding the bag with his number on it he took that too. What would he find in the second bag?
"...a wooden stake...."
a wave of panic swept through him. His weapon...the thing that was supposed to protect him..was a wooden stake?! How would he be able to defend himself with this? what if his enemy had a gun, or a knife? He knew nothing about fighting.
'no...' he urged himself to take deep breaths, the act much harder with the mask on, but he persevered. He must stay calm. In control. Perhaps he could think of a way out of this....What if he placed the weapon in another bag, and picked up that one? no...no, he would be discovered. They must be watching them. Watching his every move. It would do no good...Perhaps he could fight someone for their weapon? or steal it off someone who had died
Who had died....
His whole body shuddered at the thought. There was no doubt. People were going to die. Perhaps by the unknown, or perhaps by another person...regardless, it was a sure thing. And that thought had also opened up a new frighting realization, one he did not want to even consider. It was to inhumane...but in this situation... what if?
What if he was killed by someone else...or even worse. What if killed them instead?

(( η II entering )) He awoke. Darkness filled his peripheral vision.
"Wait-" He instinctively drew his hand to his face, but had instead contacted something hard. Bulky.
"A mask," he concluded, as he drew in an odd-sounding breath. His rigid movement told him that he was covered in a shell of armor as he struggled a little to sit upright.
He soon realised he could not explain any of this.
Relax. He told himself, but his mind raced. He was in a tent, there were ....supplies on the table .... there was a lack of information.
The cellphone strapped to his belt lighted up. >>Read New Message<< . .. ...
Thirteen. He looked around and counted......10, 11 and 12. So there are more.....more of who - he noticed that they were all in similar dark blue garb - are not us. Us? he corrected himself.
That was a worrying notion. So there were others he needed to outlast.
Well, better get moving, he thought as he watched .... Eta V - that was what was written on the mask - claiming his/her supplies.
His fingers traced out an " η II " at the side of the mask. Was that.... his name?
He approached the tables with caution, feeling a little wary of the other. He picked up a first aid kit and then the backpack labelled II.
Unzipping the backpack, Eta II pulled out a pair of small nunchucks and examined them. They were....small.
Here's to hoping these can do some damage.
Replacing the nunchucks into the backpack, Eta II took another glance around the tent. Eta V had been at the tables for sometime now, and the rest have yet to stir.
"Shall we....take a look at that?" he said, directing the question to Eta V as he gestured towards the third table. Eta II knew that it would be foolish for the other to trust him at all, or even take up that suggestion for that matter, but that was all he could muster at that point.
Plans for survival would come later, he thought, when the rest were awake.....or when they had a better idea of what they were up against.
It struck him again. He WAS being too flippant about the situation. They. Really now. Way to go with your herd mentality Eta II thought as he gave himself an imaginary slap to his face.

[η IX Entering]
Ugggghhhh.
Head fuzzy and limbs heavy, the awakening person struggled for a firm grasp on consciousness. Questions bubbled at the edges of her cloudy mind, and her mind felt fatigued despite the recent sleep. Who was she, where was she, and what was that incessant buzzing? Sitting up slowly, her muscles sore from inactivity, it took her an awkward moment to orient herself. Her gloved fingers brushed at the gas mask attached to her face, and for a moment she pondered taking it off. It felt odd, unnatural, especially since she couldn't even remember putting it on herself. In fact, she couldn't remember anything beyond the hazy memories of the dream and a dark room full of similarly dressed people. It was this singular memory that stopped her from further fiddling with the gas mask and the rest of the suit, and she instead sat in confused silence while attempting to make sense of some part of this situation.
…Except the buzzing was still happening. The noise and vibrations drawing her from her muddled thoughts, she looked down to find a cellphone attached to her belt. Huh. Fumbling clumsily with it through the gloves, she picked it up and stared at the screen. One new message. Well, might as well read it. Selecting the message, her gasp reverberated oddly throughout the mask as her eyes ran across the words. Three days?! But lost time and memories were small concerns compared to the second half of the message. Only thirteen would survive, or else everyone would die. That didn't sound fair at all.
It was then, for the first time, that she looked up and at her surroundings, noting the huddled forms of those still sleeping, but also those awake and standing by the tables. They had numbers on their heads, each of them different, and it was through a process of elimination that she realized she was Eta Nine. A numbered identity was better than none. There were twelve here, she counted, but again the memory of the dark room flooded her mind. There were twelve here, but there had to be others elsewhere judging by how full the room had been. How many in total she did not know, but it was at least safe to think there was way more than thirteen. This wasn't fair at all.
Dropping the cellphone, Eta Nine stood unsteadily to her feet, wavering a bit at first. Legs were a difficult thing to work after you had been out of it for three days, apparently. But still, if those others were over there by the table, then she guessed that she needed to be too. She walked slowly towards the tables, surveying them. First-Aid Kits were neatly placed on the first table, and she grabbed one. Though the thought caused an unnerving twist in her stomach, she figured that having a First-Aid Kit would be useful – especially if people would be dying left and right all around her. The second table had individual backpacks on them, each numbered for their human counterparts. She snatched the one labeled Eta Nine, and tentatively peeked inside before zipping it closed quickly. Her heart sank at the contents: a small dagger. Ohgod, they had been given weapons. This was real, they were really meant to kill each other in a mad rush to be one of the surviving thirteen. This really wasn't fair.
No one was rushing right now, however, and those who were awake instead seemed to be collecting around the third table. A map was on it, and Eta Nine followed suit by approaching it and looking it over. Huh. It was a simple map, and without prior knowledge of the area it wasn't very useful at all. “There's not...even a scale on it. We could be miles and miles...and many days' walking travel from any of these places,” she spoke aloud to the others crowed around the map, her words broken by pauses that were caused by just how weird she sounded through the gas mask.

(( η VI entering. ))
What... where... how...?
She swayed as she got to her feet and just tried to concentrate on breathing. Oh yeah. She was totally adjusting. Who was that guy from before anyway? And where'd he go?
No more questions... ugh, I can't even talk to myself. Where's that number that guy at the desk was talking about? I need to call myself something.
She looked at the others around her, forcing herself to focus. Oh. There. The helmets each have a Greek letter and a Roman numeral on them. She reached up and touched the side of her helmet, tracing the code on the side. η VI... "Eta Six," she said quietly to herself. I can read, at least. I know the names of things... but not myself. What's going on?
The buzzing and vibration of the cell phone at her waist caught her attention. Curious, Eta VI pulled it from her belt and read the message. Only thirteen people...? She instinctively began counting the heads around the room. There's only twelve here including me, though. Wait... We all have the Eta symbol. Are there other groups with other symbols? Is this some sort of strange survival competition or something? Well, that was logical. Maybe if we stick together, we can all survive this... Seeing the others moving towards the tables, Eta VI instinctively moved to join them. She grabbed a first aid kit and searched the backpacks until she found the one with her number on it. Seeing some of the others pulling weapons out of their bags, she joined the suit. Her hand pulled out a small hand club with a grunt. Why'd she get the heavy weapon? This is going to be a pain... Well, hopefully she'd get used to using it.
She turned when she heard a muffled, masculine voice speak nearby. She watched Eta II gesturing to the third table. Eta VI walked past II and V, silently inspecting the contents of the third table. A map. She leaned in closer, reading the names of the places before frowning behind her gas mask But where are we on this map?

((η VIII is entering)
When she finally woke up, confusion clouded her mind. Where was she? And more importantly... who was she? For a moment, her confusion turned to fear, her eyes opening only to discover nothing around her was familiar. The few people around her were covered, making it impossible for her to read their expressions, and as such... making the situation even more intimidating. She vaguely recalled having woken up before, in a classroom full of people that seemed to be as disorientated as she had been (and still was). Feeling entirely out of place, she followed the nearest person with her gaze and noticed the way they got up and went to get a bag.
Imitating them out of instinct more than anything, VIII got up and followed suit, reaching for one of the bags that were set out for them. Reaching inside, she found a set of extra bandages, aside from a few other things. That done though, she looked around and then shrunk away from the rest, looking entirely intimidated by the whole ordeal. She was trying, with all her might, to be as inconspicuous as humanly possible, but she figured that wasn't easy, given... well, what she was wearing.

((η I is entering))
This was...wait what was this? Who...what...? He was so confused. Things were hazy in his mind. In fact his mind was like one huge blank slate. There was nothing there. No recollection of how he got here. Why he was here. Hell he didn't even know his own name! Or if he even had a name! All he had to go by was what those people had said. Did they have names?
Names...the mask he wore had a number on it. η I. Is that...me? He couldn't think. There was just so much he didn't recall, lost to the black oblivion that was his mind. Eta I. That shall be my name then.
It was small, but having a name, even if it was merely a number assigned to him, made him feel like a person. Not a faceless being among a sea of faceless beings. He couldn't remember anything about himself. 'Eta I' gave him a small sense of identity. A way to distinguish himself from the others that looked just like him. And there were others. All wearing similar clothing - was that armor?! - and a gas mask. Why were they here? What was going on? So many questions with no answers.
Solemnly, Eta I moved towards one of three tables. The first one he approached displayed twelve first aid kits. It unnerved him a little to see such things, but he took up a first aid kit anyways. Only a fool wouldn't have. He headed towards the next table with what looked like some sort of bag. Knapsack. The word whispered through his mind. And they all had numbers as well. He found the knapsack with 'η I' on it and hesitantly reached out to take hold of it. What was in it? Should he look through it now? Pondering this, his feet shuffled towards the third table. There was only one thing upon this one. A map.
Is this...where we are?
Frowning, though no one would be able to see it, Eta I stared down at the map for a few minutes before stepping away to glance at his knapsack. Opening it, the first thing he spotted was what looked like a sharp stick. The hell? Pulling it out to get a better look, a name for the object registered in his mind. Stake. It was a wooden stake. Was...he supposed to use this for something? Like defense? Great. Why did he doubt how well it would work?
Looking up from his pack, he noted that others were doing the same. And most seemed to be gathering around that map. He moved closer to the map table again, but remained quiet, still working to grasp what was going on.

((η XI is entering))
As he came to, he realized that something was making breathing more difficult than usual. Is someone choking me? Deciding to take immediate action, he began retaliating against nothing. His thrashing resulted in a new point of view, as he had fallen off his chair. With a grumble, he got back up and sat at the desk. Of course he wasn’t really paying any attention to whoever that was talking up front. Not having much else to do, he stuck his hands in the desk in search of hidden treasures.
Eventually, he made his way to the tables. There are numbers on everything. Why would they mix Greek and Roman? Didn’t the Greeks ever have their own number system? Now that he thought about it, he realized that he had never seen anything Greek using numbers he didn’t recognize. Maybe they didn’t have numbers…? He soon lost interest, though, since his attention span for that sort of thing wasn’t too high.
Pausing, he wondered which number was his. Looking at which had been taken and the numbers on everyone else’s helmet- since he couldn’t take his off to see his own- he came to a decision. I must be η XI. Weird. Finding his bag, he grabbed his kit and went to put it inside when he realized something was already in there. He took out what looked to be a giant toothpick. Okay, really? What, am I going to be running into vampires? I thought they went after pretty girls. He gripped it in his fist and decided it’d be a good idea to test it out, and thus he stabbed the table. The damage was loud, but it wasn’t as nice as what he would have liked to see. Oh well. He could probably figure out how to use the thing effectively, even if it meant having to shove it up his opponents’ nostrils.
A text buzzed in on his phone. Well, he didn’t recognize it, but it was stuck to him. Thirteen? What, we have to go around killing each other or something? No wonder they’re using Roman numerals- we’re like gladiators. He sealed his possessions in his knapsack and roamed over to the map, picking it up without asking if anyone else was done. After staring at it for a few seconds and realizing he really wasn’t thrilled about the thing, he threw it back down on the table and skulked around the tent. It would be nice to simply leave, but if their home base was this creepy, then whatever was outside was probably worse.

Eta VI lifted her head when she heard a feminine voice behind her, nodding to the speaker. "That's true." She looked at the map again. "Maybe we can determine the distance when we go outside. If there are any high places nearby, we could scout the area out." Where was this information coming from? What was I, a strategist in my last life? Or maybe it was just logical...
She blinked when someone suddenly picked up the map. She had just enough time to identify the number on his/her helmet before he/she threw it down again. After watching him/her sulk around the tent, Eta VI walked over to the sulking figure.
"Eta XI? Are you alright?"
Yes, it probably wasn't the best question to ask, but at least she was trying.

η XI turned and glared at whoever was speaking to him. How dare they invade his personal space? It took him a couple seconds to remember that his ‘I will kill you as soon as you blink’ scowls were not particularly visible through his thick helmet that barely let air in. It did give him time to see that η VI was the one who had addressed him. Of course, he didn’t have the manners to refer to her by her new name.
“What?” he asked grumpily, using his best ‘go away’ tone he could muster through his mask. This darn thing was going to make intimidation a lot harder.

Looking to Eta Six as she spoke, Eta Nine nodded at her. Someone who was also thinking sensibly! Forming a cohesive plan, and taking action, at least had to be somewhat better than skulking around and rudely snatching away the map. She frowned at Eta Eleven from behind the gas mask. They were all stressed by the events and circumstances, but she just could not condone the a*****e-ish actions of Eta Eleven. Fighting amongst themselves would only make them more vulnerable to the other groups who were no doubt already lurking around, ready to strike.
"That sounds like a good idea," she replied to Eta Six. "It would help if we could determine where exactly we are on this map, and then from there learn new things about the area. Getting a sense of location and distance could be extremely helpful. I doubt the other locations are too far away. The text message said we'd be here for only seven days, and it would be difficult to...accomplish things in seven days if the others are a long ways off." She did not say explicit what those 'things' were, but she guessed that everyone knew what she was talking about.
Eta Nine stepped away from the map table and looked out beyond the boundaries of the home base. It was foggy and gloomy, not at all welcoming, but being unwilling to remove themselves from the camp and learn would reduce them to little more than defenseless sitting ducks. "I volunteer to help scout out the area. I'd like some company, though, can't really know what else is lurking out there," she offered, turning back to the small group that still remained around the map table.

He peered over at η IX, completely switching mental channels and ignoring ηVI. Maybe it would be more comfortable to be outside than cramped in here with so many people he didn’t know and wasn’t necessarily all that fond of. Half of them were still out cold. “I’ll go,” he offered. Actually, it was probably more of an announcement. Whether η IX wanted him to come or not, he was at least going to leave the tent- even if he didn’t necessarily stay near any of his group members. Maybe it wouldn’t be so hot out there.
η XI roamed over to the tent door and poked his head out, too, before exiting. He paced about near the entrance, then picked a random direction and went for it. “It’s gross and beachy,” he called back from the fog.
