Delta Squad HOME BASE: Welcome to the Delta Squad HOME BASE. Inside the home base tent are a couple cots in addition to tables holding about a week's worth of simple supplies, though there is no food around. For some reason with this gask mask on, you never feel hungry. Or thirsty. Or like you need to use the bathroom, though you still feel sleepy from time to time and worn out. The home base itself is a simple tent, easily identifiable by its bright green material. SUPPLIES: Your home base shelter for your group comes equipped with all necessary supplies. Inside the accommodating tent lie three tables. The first table simply contains exactly twelve first aid kits, all neatly organized in rows of six, one for each person. The second table seems to have been organized with a fair amount of dedication, on each backpack is written only a number. Once again, there are exactly twelve backpacks, organized in rows of six. The last table is the simplest of all and simply contains one map. There is not much else written about their location. ((OOC: ICly post to pick up your supplies, and ROLL ONE 6-sided dice to determine your weapon that is in the bag you randomly picked up: 1- A handgun, but it is full of rubber pellets 2- A small dagger 3 - Extra bandages 4 - A small hand club 5 - A wooden stake 6. Small nunchucks Please go to the Battle rules to make sure you read up on HOW TO BATTLE, and what effect your weapon has. )) It is NOT SAFE to linger too long at home base, you can and will be attacked anywhere, including your home base should an intruder decide to step into this thread. How you want to travel and approach things is up to you, but make sure if you leave the thread note EXIT THREAD in your post to do so. exclaim At no point can your character be in two threads at once - doing so without GM approval can and will get your banned from this event. exclaim

How... extraordinarily odd! That was the only way she could describe her current situation, as she, quite groggily, made her way around her 'base' tent. Her head swiveled from side to side, eyes glancing at the others who were in the tent with her, grabbing their first aide kits and backpacks, and checking the contents therein. She was begginning to feel faintly nauseated. And her head! It throbbed painfully with every movement she made, like she was suffering through the worst hangover ever! But there had been no binge drinking with friends the night before..that much was clear. She desperately hoped that this was just a reaction to whatever it was she had been drugged with, if that was indeed what had happened to her. She lifted glove clad hand up to her head, bowing it for a moment, only to feel the helmet and mask that was over her face, giving her the same uniform look as everyone else she had seen in the tent thus far. She could only assume hers was the same green as theirs were. As she began walking (a little clumsily) over towards the table with the backpacks, she heard a faint, repetive beeping sound. It was a vagualy familiar noise, and seemed to have an interval of about a minute between sounding off again. She looked down, finding an object that she recognised attached to her belt. A cell phone? Did everyone else have one? Sure enough, as she took another quick glance around, there were others with the same device, also attached to their belts. Confused about her situation more then ever, she grabbed at the phone and flipped it open. A new message? She hit the appropriate button, then felt the blood drain from her face as she read what it said. Death? DEATH? She didn't want to die! She faintly recalled what somebody had said earlier, when she had first woken up in the classroom type area. She had signed up for this? Who in their right mind would sign up for this madness! But maybe that was just it. Maybe she wasn't in her right mind at all! She could be stuck here with a bunch of crazy people. A bunch of crazy people who want to kill me... The thought just unwantingly flashed through her head. Quickly, she grabbed a backpack, and opening it, found a pair of nun-chucks inside. Nun-chucks! How useless was that! She didn't think she even knew how to use them, and would likely clobber herself before managing to hit anybody else. It didn't matter. She would use her fists to fight, if she had to. Shoving the nun-chucks back in her bag, she strode over quickly to the table with the first aide kits, snatching one up and shoving it into the bag as well. With a moments thought, she did a little rearranging so that the nun-chucks were on top of the first aide kit, for easier emergency access. It wouldn't do if she were being attacked, and couldn't find the damn things, useless or not! Maybe she could find time to practice with them later....if she wasn't dead first.

Waking up with a dull, throbbing headache wasn't the preferred way of regaining consciousness, but hey, at least she wasn't dead, right? Yet, anyway... Thoughts swirled around in her brain, coalescing into two slightly muddled words that she grasped at with great effort.
Delta Nine. That was her number.
Yes, it was true that Delta Nine couldn't remember her real name. She took small comfort in her new identity, for what it was worth. Delta Nine wasn't such a bad thing to be known as, she supposed. She could handle it.
What she couldn't handle was this gas mask. It itched, she was sweating, and -- wouldn't you know it -- Delta Nine was feeling claustrophobic. Fantastic.
Delta Nine was ripped from her thoughts by the annoying sounds that came from the cell phone located in her pocket. The thick gloves made it hard to maneuver anything, but after a few moments of fumbling with the damn phone -- ah ha! -- success.
Her lips moved as she whispered the words of the text message to herself. As she neared the end of the message she felt panic seize her chest.
She was so going to die here, wasn't she?
After reading the text that had come in on her phone, Delta Nine tucked the phone back into her pocket. Despite being the harbinger of sour news, she couldn't rightly destroy the thing. It might just be her ticket out of this damned place.
Peering around, Delta Nine saw others getting up, moving around and checking their phones. She rose from her cot, taking a moment to regain her composure. Okay, she thought to herself, eyes darting around nervously, okay. Calm, calm. You can do this. Just keep a level head, stay calm, and don't freak out. You're gonna be fine. You're gonna be fine.
Her eyes landed on a table that was in the room and she moved towards it. Spotting the first aid kits, Delta Nine nabbed one of those right off the bat before grabbing the pack that had her 'name' on it. Clutching both the bag and the kit to her chest, she backed herself into a corner of the tent and squatted down. She rustled through the items in the bag -- there had to be something useful in there, after all -- and gasped when she caught sight of the gun.
After a second glance and a low, keening cry of disappointment, Delta Nine tossed the gun back into her pack.
Rubber bullets. Great.
Yeah, she was so totally going to die here.
Delta Nine sat there in the corner of the tent mourning the lack of real bullets. It would take some time for her to make a decision on what to do next. Now was the time for a little self-pity.

δ II ;; Delta two, sat up to yawn which was stifled by some type of mask. He didn’t freak out or anything it seemed normal…and well he didn’t much care.
“What a place to nap,” the gas masked gent stood up, but not for very long. A dull ache of a headache took over and compelled him to sit down once again. Beep, Beep, Beeeep. ~ Yet another thing to bother him. δ II reached around for…well whatever it was. Finally he found a cellular device at his hip, he leaned over the desk and flipped up the screen of his phone to see a new message. He read over it briefly. … … Yup people gonna die, probably a lot… time to head out.
Delta two, headed out to the supply area and checked out the bags. He got bandages, take that monster gauze of death comming at you....though as he jokes with this he might...be able to make it out of here alive.
His next move was over to the corner before roll out time, there was another squad member there to have ideal, unimportant chit chat with. “Hey.”

Delta Three was a particularly buoyant fool of a man, a rare specimen in this deadly game they were about to play. Either he had always been as such or adopted the personality in lieu of falling straight into despair and madness - and really, who wanted to do that? The abyss would always be there, so why bother giving the attention whore what it wanted?
That was what dying was for, right? So until he was on his last dregs of strength, Delta Three would remain particularly optimistic about their chances! Because the alternative was just too much for his poor mind to take. The cell phone messages were proof of that, this "thirteen survivors only" clause that nipped at his mind . . . He hoped nobody brought that up too much, which was like asking for gray clouds not to rain.
He waved a little to his comrades as he went to the table and shoved his arm into the bag, producing a nun-chuck for his efforts. "Nice~" he said with a grin (though the gas mask obliterated the visual effects). Then, snatching is first aid kit, he twirled to face his companions and made an elaborate bow. "Delta Three, at your service, folks! Or D-3, I like that better. Faster to say."

She sat up with a jolt, eyes opening, breathing heavily. Without thinking, her hand moved wipe the sheen of sweat from her forehead, but found the way blocked by the heavy gas mask on her face and the light armor that everyone seemed to be wearing. Everyone... looking around, she saw the walls of a bright green tent, and inside eleven other figures wearing the same armor and boots and masks milled about. Some had yet to wake.
Am I going to die?
Her heartbeat had ceased racing, and her breathing was slowing down, but now a wave of nausea rose in her throat and she suppressed the urge to gag, to empty the contents of her stomach into the small space allowed between her body and the mask and armor. She felt suffocated, the walls of the suit encasing her, closing in and sucking away the air around her; her ears rung with shock, or fear, or maybe simply the reverberation of sound within an enclosed space.
A beeping startled her, pulling her away from her thoughts. Her fingers fumbled towards the source of the sound, landed on a grey cell phone strapped to the belt of the suit.
A single message was waiting.
She squeezed her eyes and told herself to focus as she scanned the contents of the message. Only thirteen, it said; enjoy your trip, it said; she laughed out loud, the sound muffled by her mask, a choked shriek. I'm going to die. The text message's tone brought flashbacks of a ringing voice, a classroom filled with students doomed to die, her own dimming consciousness and darkening vision, a number-- delta six.
She was sitting up by now, her head lowered, knees drawn up protectively. She sat still for a long time. Nothing will change if I stay here. More and more of the suited figures were getting up now, walking to one of the three tables scattered around the tent and picking up bulky packages, their shapes distorted through the lens of her mask. Slowly, she rose and walked to the first table, trudging behind another blurry figure. Imitating itsmotions, she picked up what seemed like a first aid kit, then moved on to the second table. The packs were labeled with numbers; she remembered her own, and lifted the heavy pack labeled δ VI. On the third table there was only what seemed like a map, and she ignored it. When they were all about to die, all but 13, did it matter where?
As she walked away from the tables and back to the space where she had woken up, another figure (person?) at the other end of the tent shouted a cheerful greeting to the crowd, bowing with a flourish. She glanced sidelong at him and wondered why, or how he remained so optimistic.
She was surprised someone had gone to the trouble to organize and label these packs-- was there something different in each of them? She opened her own and found a small dagger. She hefted it in her palm; were they expected to kill with this? Could she imagine herself plunging this knife into someone else's flesh, if the time came? Or maybe it was a mercy dagger, but she looked around and noticed that others had different weapons, some a club, some nunchucks, and many others. Maybe it was fitting that she had received a dagger; the thought flitted through her mind, but she forced herself to ignore it. I'm not that desperate, she told herself, I could be one of the thirteen. And even if she wasn't, she was sure there would be plenty of other ways to die.
Some were turning to others and beginning to make small talk now; the sound of quiet murmurs echoed inside the tent. She sat quietly, tracing the contour of the flimsy dagger with a gloved finger, and waited for something, anything to happen.

Delta Nine had drawn her legs up to her chest, chin resting on her knees (though the pose was awkward thanks to the bulky clothes she had on) and in her hands she clutched the bag that held all of her possessions. Bah, possessions -- a first aid kit, a gun with rubber bullets... she shook her head before raising her sights to the squad member that approached her.
She was so NOT in the mood for chit chat.
Gritting her teeth behind the mask on her face, Delta Nine lifted her chin and gave a muffled, "Hello." Her attention was soon directed towards the buffoon that was currently bowing towards the other squad members. She rubbed her forehead with the heel of her palm (well, the mask that covered her forehead, anyway) and gave a hearty sigh before dragging herself to her feet again. Mr. Optimism aka D-3 was sure to get on her nerves before too long, but she squelched that thought.
After all, these people were all she had right now.

Unsurprisingly, the mood was dim about the tent. How to fight off the growing gloom, he thought, tapping his chin as he surveyed his squad. Maybe he could act like the leader until the rest of them came over? He wouldn't mind that.
"Morale's what determines the fight," he began cheerily enough, speaking aloud his thoughts at the same time. "They might have the weapons, but if a guy doesn't have the heart, they're finished!" D-3 hefted his backpack and gave them a thumbs up. "So . . . so let's be ready to get a'killin' with determined smiles, yes?"
He kinda finished lamely, unfortunately. D-3 felt particularly bad for the women (or what he was sure were feminine figures) looking either surly or forlorn in the corner. Ah, how he wished he could peel off the mask and give them a real smile!

Delta Ten awoke with a vague, widely spread headache. He immediately got the feeling that this was nothing, or at least nothing compared to what he going to face in the future. As he sat up he knew he remembered nothing, except for the small explanation, if you could call it that, and the identification code he had been given, δ X, because yes, that was what it was, a marker. A label. There was something about a man's gut that was trustworthy, memory or no, and he got the sense that he was in for a long, grueling haul.
He grunted, the sound distorted by the mask, as he stood up. He looked over his person with some difficulty, due to the suit and gear, and finally found a phone. He checked it, more to see its functions than anything, and noted a message he had received. He read it in silence, letting his mind get through the words before considering them. Death, hu? He honestly couldn't say he felt surprised. In the classroom they had been told the only way to pass was to survive. That meant those who failed where the ones who died. This was not new information, really, apart from the number of people who would pass. It was odd, and maybe it was because the environment and everything felt so surreal, but he wasn't scared. On the contrary, he wanted to know what those that passed got. It had to be something spectacular, he thought hungrily, if he had entered into this willingly.
Before even giving the others of his group attention, he went and picked up his back. Inside was a map and...a dagger. He ran a gloved finger over the edge very carefully and felt his lips curl into a satisfied smirk under his mask. Well, this was going to be useful. It might not do a whole lot of damage, but if you were in range, it near impossible to have the dagger miss. Yes, this would be helpful.
He looked around the group then, noting the different postures. It seemed the general energy level was negative. Except for that ridiculous D-3 fellow. He had a feeling he'd go pretty quickly. At least he seemed to understand that they'd be killing, odd attitude or no.
"As true as that may be, if you can't hurt anyone or take care of yourself, moral isn't going to do you any good," Delta Ten said very placidly. He took one the first aid kits, putting it in his bag as he continued, "And as wonderful as it is to be shocked or confused, I don't know about you all, but I think it'd be a good idea to get trecking." He honestly didn't care if they agreed, though. He could go on his own, if need be. After all, he wanted to be one of those 13.

He woke up silently, his eyes groggily cracking open. At first, he found nothing unusual about the fact that his vision was tinted a light green, but as soon as he opened his mouth to breathe, he was startled to find the air warm and suffocating. Still disoriented, he reluctantly pushed himself up into a sitting position. Where am I? . . .Who am I? He scratched his head, only to realize that he also donned gear that completely covered his body. Although the material was light, it uncomfortably clung to his body.
He looked around and noticed people that were similarly dressed. At first he wondered how he would identify each person—they all looked the same—but the flash of white Roman numerals emblazoned on the side of their helmets silenced his curiosity. His hand reached up to brush the area of his helmet where he guessed the number was. What number was he? He spent a long time staring at everyone else, catching fleeting glimpses of their numbers until he was left with the number twelve. Was he Twelve, or were there more? He shrugged and finally got to his feet. For now, he would be Twelve.
People gravitated towards a set of tables and Twelve decided he would do the same. He started at the table filled with cases that appeared to be first aid kits. Furtively, Twelve glanced at everyone else as they gathered their own supplies. He observed them as they claimed kits, bags, and maps. They weren’t going to like, explode on contact or something, right? Though, the idea amused him. Explosions were pretty.
Once he concluded that the supplies were harmless he took his own kit and strolled down the line until he had all three items. Twelve clumsily held them in his arms. He frowned and kneeled down. Carefully, Twelve placed the map on top of the kit and the bag on top of both the map and kit. As he bent down to pick up his neatly arranged pile of supplies, a small device plopped to the ground. He picked it up and stared at it. Realizing that it was a cellphone, he flipped it open and immediately flipped through the messages. There were only two, depressing and mind-boggling.
He remained still, his attention focused on the glowing message. Only thirteen will escape the island. Everyone else will die. Twelve adjusted his position so that his legs were sprawled out. Sighing, he leaned forward into a stretch. He did not fear death itself, but the method of his demise. Fire. Bullets. Drowning. What would it be?
But the thing he feared most was dying alone and unknown, as just another nameless corpse. Had it not been for D-3, Twelve would have begun sulking, then and there.
“You have a point there.” He beamed. Not that anyone saw, since his mask shrouded his mouth. “How about we travel in small groups? Moving as one giant mass is probably bad.”

δ IV. Delta Four.
The major headache was not part of the plan, and she sat with her legs curled up, her fingers trying to massage her head through the mask.
It was pretty much useless.
She stood up slowly, glancing around through the mask and shrugging her shoulders, as if to alleviate some discomfort and numbness in her muscles. She was oddly distant from the others; it took some time to get her mind to register what the others were saying, but once she did everything kind of snapped into place, righting itself. She was fine now, though still had a headache of sorts.
Walking over to the table, Delta Four picked up the bag with her number on it, opening it to find a dagger inside. She stared at it with a calm assurance, realization hitting her hard; they would have to work together, or perhaps against each other...
Reaching down to check her cell phone, she stared at it with dismay. Thirteen. Only thirteen.
She was not going to die here.
Closing the bag back up and pocketing her cell, she slung the backpack over her shoulder and turned to the other members of her squad. No one was the leader - at least, no one had claimed to be, anyway, and she wasn't volunteering - but she spoke up nonetheless.
"We should work together. I do not have a good feeling, but being alone is most likely worse." She winced slightly. Would this blasted headache not go away? "If we work together, it will turn out for the better." Idly, she thought of shortening her title. DF, short for Delta Four. That might work.
Oh, but wait. There was a Delta Five. There couldn't be two DFs, that would just be confusing. Well, shoot.
Shaking her head, she got her mind back to the conversation, listening to see if anyone had commented on her... well, comment.

Delta One couldn't help but feel slightly negative about this whole situation. She had been standing, with her head lowered, as she pondered the circumstances (or at least, the ones she could still remember) that had led her to wake up here, feeling confused, disoriented, and above all, afraid. Her head snapped up to attention, however, when she heard Delta Three speak out loud, with sickening optimism, that made her lip curl back behind her mask. Yep, crazy people...that's who she was stuck here with. She shook her head a little, clearing the last remenants of the headache (finally) and the cobwebs that were still clinging to patches of her brain, making her yet feel foggy. She heard another person mention splitting up into smaller groups, and felt that it could be a bad idea to do... "Are you sure that's wise?" she found herself speaking out loud, head turning towards the one that spoke of splitting up. "There must be others out there, and if only 13 are going to survive, they'll all be gunning for anybody not in a group. If we stick together, we'll have a larger fighting force in the event of an attack" Her voice came out flat, emotionless. She couldn't show any weakness.

"I'm leaning in with the group people," D-3 put forth, positively relieved that they were at least beginning to discuss things rather than, for the majority, sit and brood. Though how to go about it? Obviously there were going to be some people who couldn't care less and go traveling on their own - some, like Delta Ten, he imagined were already planning their own routes . . . Would it be possible to please everyone?
More immediately, was it even important to do so?
Still . . . Making his comrades compliant and at least neutral-cooperative would be nice. Already he was thinking he might work well with Delta 12 and Delta Five . . . maybe even Delta One if she defrosted a little.
"Hmm . . . How's about this? Weapons up if you want to be in some form of a group, pair or larger; weapons down if you'd rather go solo. Solo people could be reconnaissance," D-3 explained as an option. "Snipe down any solo guards they see and give us an idea of the forces and terrain ahead. Everyone else can have at least one buddy to pair up with at all times; going alone when you're not wanting to is a baaaad idea . . ."
D-3 didn't think everyone would agree with his reasoning, but it was worth a shot. He stood as confidently as he could, the nun-chuk and first aid kit neatly tucked in with his map in the backpack.
