Faleen had to remember to make the drive to the branch as smooth as possible for Agent Nyx, very aware by now of the agent’s extreme discomfort of vehicles.
But Faleen was just pleased that she got to drive again, despite the fact that the familiarity of the rout raised a little discomfort in Faleen’s gut.
The two agents were heading to the outpost today, the one set in the Camphoreon City, Sent today to check up on the labs and equipment to make sure that everything was in order and being carried out in the way that was expected.
It had been some time since the first inspection after the Rocket Will had turned out to be the League’s Lance, and this was just another follow up visit.
Faleen had been working more with Nyx, with their pokemon, so Faleen had become more familiar with the other Agent; she had to admit it was quite enjoyable spending time with her.
The trip was a good length of time, and sun was high in the sky by the time Faleen had pulled them into the parking spot she had usually kept the vehicle in before walking to the branch.

It'd been a while since Agent Nyx had been to the outpost, the last trip ending with a broken down jeep and a flight home with someone she wasn't particularly fond of. This time, she was with someone she seemed to enjoy being around, and she had a clip board. The clip board was important. They were there to do inspections, and Miss Nadja had given her an extensive list of things to check. Nyx climbed out of the vehicle Faleen had driven them there in, straightened her yellow sweater dress, and proceeded to walk with the other agent a few blocks away, down a couple of alleys, and into the abandoned subway tunnels.
The pair identified themselves to the new grunt they had on guard duty, the replacement for the league champion they'd previously had, and continued on to their assigned task. "Prepare for a long and tedious process..." Nyx warned Faleen and sighed, "At least we aren't under inspection." It was a small comfort; The pair would have to go over the facilities with a fine tooth comb. Of course, she wasn't inspecting the equipment, that was why Faleen was there. Nyx was barely qualified to ride in a car, let alone judge the fitness of a machine.

Before following, Faleen had to her tool kit out of the back seat. the little one she had on her belt all the time would not work this time for what she was might need. Knowing what condition the hardware in the Branch usually diminished to.
The women in jeans, and a short sleeved fitting shirt grinned slightly at the other agent's comment.
"I can be grateful for that" she admitted, very much preferring to be the one that no one looked forward to seeing.
The new guard let them pass when he identified who they were, and Faleen got the door for Nyx, to lead her to where they needed to report to. Faleen would have to have a look at the electronic equipment in the lab for Nyx's check list.
"Where would you like to start?"

"Check the cleaning machine, and I'll start checking the chemicals." Nyx pointed at a large metallic box sitting next to a deep sink. The scientist walked over to a rack of shelves near by, pulling up a stool and getting to work checking that everything was properly supplied and clean; It wasn't her job to fix it if there were any that weren't, all she had to do was take notes and then chew out whoever was in charge of taking care of the outpost's lab. Nyx hummed while she perused the many containers of liquids and salts. "I wonder," she marked off things on her clipboard and wrote down that they weren't properly storing their jar of fluoboric acid. "If anyone ever actually does anything here?"
In some dark and long abandoned corner, hidden behind a lab table and a mountain of cobwebs, something stared out from the darkness at the two humans. These people were new- Was it possible? It had to get closer. Six thin legs skittered from their hiding place and across the floor, ducking behind some strange machine and watched Nyx and Faleen.

When the machine was pointed out to her, Faleen walked over, crouching down by it while she ran her fingers over its surface, while her eyes scanned the device for any external abnormalities, before she reached into open her tool kit and open the panel to get a look at the inner workings.
"Do you mean for actual work? or are you already finding a substantial number of mark downs?"
She inquired, not pulling away from the tangle of wires before her.
She was completely unaware of any other life form in the room other than Nyx and herself.

"From the number of marks I've already put down, I'd have to guess that the team here spends all day with their heads in the liquid nitrogen tanks." Some of the things she was finding were just plain hazardous... Leaky bottles, contaminated containers, a donut? Nyx sighed irritably and scratched on the board further. She dreaded checking the work stations and the DNA storage areas, not to mention the few experiment cages and clone tubes they had in the outpost.
Satisfied that the humans hadn't seen its trek across the floor, the creature scampered into the open briefly to take refuge under the shelf.
Nyx, apparently too busy wondering why anyone would have put and left a potato next to the hydroxide for what looked to be at least a few months. She'd need gloves and a spatula to remove the mess- but after she finished with everything else.

"Oh dear." came an exasperated reply, pulling back away from the cleaning machine. "This isn't looking any better, its had little to no maintenance if I had to guess, and there is a good amount of buildup from dust and whatever leaks down into here." She probably doesn't want to know. "Its a fire hazard"
Reaching down to replace the screw driver she had with a pare of tweeters, returning to the machine as she brushed off some of the gunk and checked the wire connections and any evidence on the boards for burnouts,
"I run into this problem a lot here."

"This is- how does something like this happen?" No wonder Miss Nadja had done a complete overhaul of the labs at the base; If they had been in a similar condition when she'd gotten there, it was a miracle that the facilities hadn't just exploded. Nyx grumbled and moved some of the containers out of the way so she could inspect the further reaches of the supply shelf.
"Ktch-" A container bumped into another, or at least that was what Nyx assumed had made the noise. "Sssssssssss..."
"... What's that hissing?" It sounded like it was coming from the... chemical... storage... area... hissing was bad. Nyx jumped up hastily. "Run!" The scientist followed her own advice and made a mad dash for cover.

The sound hadn't escaped Faleen either, and she wasn't at all unfamiliar with the hissing of an impending explosion, it seemed a little strange to what she normally heard, but she wasn't about to take any risks when something in his disorganized fire hazard of a lab was hissing
Faleen had jerked herself away from what she was working on within a blink. kicking herself back up to her feet and pushing herself up and over the nearest lab table she could. getting what cover she could get in the short amount of time she knew she was permitted from the sounds of that hissing.
Balling up against the wall and ducking her head down to hold it tightly, waiting for the explosion and hoping that this table would hold up against it enough not to kill her.

A few moments later and there was... no explosion. Not only that, but there was no more hissing. But sometimes there were delayed ignitions, so Nyx stayed hunkered down in a tight ball behind the lab table. Thankfully there was no one around to see the pair taking cover from seemingly nothing.
A few more moments and Nyx lifted her hands from her head and looked up. "...Where's the boom?" The sound she'd heard indicated an imminent and inevitable explosion, but now there was nothing.
"Ktch-ch-chu.."

Faleen was wondering the same exact thing, and like Nyx, she didn't dare move from the spot until a good chunk of time had lapsed with no explosion.
Opening her eyes when Nyx spoke, she carefully lifted her head, "It should have happened by now" she replied, slowly un-balling herself and rising from the floor to keep on over the lab table.
"Do you still hear that though?"
There was a noise, like something was being ignited

"Yeah I-" Nyx peeked over the counter top beside Faleen and blinked, stunned by what she saw. Sitting on one of the shelves was a small arachnid pokemon, a shiny--or, more than likely false shiny--Spinarak. "Where did that come from?"
The little spider pokemon didn't move from its spot and just stared at the two humans. Why did everyone run away from it? "Ktch-" It looked sort of... sad, or at least as sad as a bug could look. It drooped down closer to the surface of the shelf, its sorrow weighing it down, and chittered pathetically. "Ktch-ktch..."

"It... was just that thing?" she asked, looking thoroughly frazzled at this realization, but sure enough, the noise was coming from the bug Pokemon that was sitting... freely on the shelf.
"This place has a problem with letting in wild pokemon" she said through an exasperated sigh, nor forgetting the time she had encountered wild Ratata chewing on the light wiring in the building.
"Probably found its way in through a hole in the wall or something."
Well that had been embarassing... she was glad that Nyx was the only one in here today, being scared of an explosion by pokemon.

Explosions by pokemon were no joke--but Spinarak couldn't explode.
The danger now passed, Nyx stood upright and slowly walked closer to the spider pokemon. "... Bug and Poison type..." She was thinking out-loud. "You think it's wild?" She took another few careful steps towards it.
The pokemon stopped chattering when one of the humans started walking towards it. That was the opposite way most people went. The spider made no move.

"More than likely it is." Faleen said, but... NOT walking about from behind the table, having no real desire to get close to a wild bug type, especially if its bites were poison.
Nyx seemed to be handling it, and Faleen just watched, hand at her pokeballs in case the Agent needed her.
... It was just a Spiarak though, Nyx was more than capable of handling this.
"If it does belong to someone thats another mark off the survey, thats for sure"
If this was someones idea of a Joke...
