This is a private roleplay between Sarangerel [Oooka] and Kiran [Kazu].

Setting

Sara finds out that even morning shopping is a task in a place like Lunaria. Will she actually get her groceries? lets see how it plays out!
PostPosted: Tue Mar 29, 2011 12:41 am

Morning had dawned on Lunaria once more and all the merchants were busy setting up their stalls. Sara’s pale green eyes scanned around the street, she had not been to the market much but there was some shopping that needed to be done and she felt like a walk, so it might as well be a productive one. By her side was her faithful guardian, the black, one-eye wolf following her silently on the look out for trouble. The young Mongolian stroked through his thick black fur with slender hands, Nori was particularly large for a wolf and his body showcased a variety of cuts and scars which had been handed to him through out the years. Now the wolf was retired in a way as was his owner Hua, they had fought and served and now were enjoying the peace that came after you established enough money to not need work. Sara herself hoped to be in that position one day, she came to Lunaria to study to become a priestess and in that she hoped she would earn enough to buy her own small home and have her parents move in with her. The thought of them still having to work the farm saddened her, she remembered how hard life was, maybe it was easier now they did not have her to worry about on top of everything else. She snapped back into reality, it was no time to daydream she had supplies to pick up for dinner tonight.

She wondered over to one vender, boots almost silent against the floor. When she got there the person was already putting spices in bag’s. She smiled and picked a couple out. “J-just these please.” She meeped, stuttering her words as usual, there was only a certain few who got to hear her voice with out her stammer, it was a nervous habit of hers which came out more when she was talking to strangers or was generally stressed out or wound up. She passed the merchant the coin and then put the spice bags in her own sack, now she just needed some fruit, fish and rice. Sara knew how to cook but even she must admit she had never used such ingredients until she moved here. The things they used on the farm were very basic, if you did not grow or herd them you did not use them; simple as, she started to send spice packets to her mother in letters, she would love to come around a market like this. She started to wonder further down the street, after a while looking down at Nori. “I guess we will find the fish vendors if we wonder closer to the docks? Do not let me forget the fruit on the way back up though, okay?” She talked to the beast better than she did most people, he was very human to her. The wolf gave a short bark in return, she swore he could understand her, he was a very smart canine indeed.

So the Soul Conduit in training kept a eye out for any sign of someone selling fish. More people were starting to come out now, she thought she could avoid the crowds by coming early but it seemed that everyone else had the same idea. She gave a nervous chuckle, she knew if she had to fight to get served she would never get home. She was way too polite, if someone pushed in front of her she would let them rather than assert herself. She would just prey that none of these people wanted fish. She wove in and out of bodies, apologising every time she had to dodge someone, Nori followed on, he moved for no man and instead of following Sara’s dance routine he walked straight on and watched the people part for him. He did have quite big teeth after all. She finally jumped to the side putting her hand against a wall and resting. “Well Nori, this is harder than I thought.” She laughed, knelling down to ruffle the fur on the beasts neck, he sat and looked at the mass of bodies wondering around, tongue out and panting because of the morning sun. Winter was behind them now, and better weather moved in. Too bad he still had his winter coat, although his bolder patched did offer some relief.

Kiran had crept out of the house early that morning while the rest of his family slept. He had built up a nice selection of fish to sell while spending a good portion of his free time the day before at his favorite fishing spot. He wanted to get down to the docks early enough to grab a free stall and set up his fish to sell. Already, the market was bustling with people trying to beat the rush of the later crowd. Kiran weaved about all the people while carrying a large crate with ice and fish layered upon more ice and fish.

His gaze swept around the market as he walked, scanning the people. He always had of watching the people he passed. Mostly, he was looking for targets. Oh, found one, Kiran thought as he noticed a wealthy looking woman arguing with a vendor over the quality of the fruit he was selling. He weaved his way a little closer to her for a better look. A disappointed frown settled onto his face as he examined the fancy jewelry the woman wore. Not real gold. The woman was trying to appear richer than she was by wearing cheap quality jewelry made to look like the high quality stuff. Either that, or the woman was fool enough to get ripped off.

Shaking his head, Kiran continued on his way toward the docks. He kept an eye out for anyone else that looked like a good target and an ear out for any good gossip. Most of the talk was merely women discussing dinner plans or useless, petty gossip about another woman. Kiran sighed. Mornings were dull times for finding anything interesting.

Or maybe not so dull. Kiran paused as he caught sight of a large wolf in the crowd. That was something he hadn't seen before. It was sitting off to the side, out of the way of the market goers. There was a girl knelt beside the wolf. At least that meant the wolf was probably friendly. Someone rammed into him as his mind was distracted by the wolf. Kiran stumbled off to the side; a fish or two spilling from the top of his crate. He sighed as he placed the crate on the ground then knelt to pick up the fallen fish.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 30, 2011 9:43 am

Nori looked over to the side, sniffing the air. After a moment the wolf got up and started to wonder in the direction of the Lunarian with the crate of fish. Sara watched his movements and also came to stand eyes widening at the fact the black wolf had actually hunted down what she needed. “Wow, looks like you found some for me.” She mumbled, mainly to herself. He could not possibly know what she was looking for could he? Then again when Hua asked for something the wolf usually fetched it, he might understand the meanings of certain things; Sara remembered once the Wolf Maiden has asked for sake and her trust hound went and carried her flask over. She smiled and wondered slowly in the direction of Kiran. It was not long until she noticed that he had been rammed into and a few of his products rested on the floor.

She tilted her head and quickly decided to help him retrieve his livelyhood, with very little thought about it, it sometimes seemed that no one around here was willing to do little things to make the lives of others easier; however Sara took pride in being the acceptation. Back home everyone looked out for one another, there community was small and well knitted and at times she missed those kind of connections, being able to really, trust and talk to your neighbours. She leaned down, picking up a fish in her hand before holding it out to him, not wanting to put it in the crate in case he wanted to clean it before putting it with the product which had not been tainted by ground. “T-there is no chance that you might be selling these later on will there?” She asked, not that she wanted to rush him, she did not mind waiting she just thought if he said yes it would save her looking she could just follow him until he was ready to open.

“Do... you need any help?” She asked in her quiet voice, even though she was very shy she was more than willing to lend someone a hand, it was more social conversation she struggled with, always finding it difficult to let her hair down. “Not that I do not think you can handle this yourself and do an amazing job.” She added nervously with a nod, she was always very paranoid that the things she said would offend people, so much so she thought about her words carefully; analysing them more than the person on the receiving end. She was yet to realise that most people were not as sensitive as she was, yet the young Mongolian was always trying to please and be on good terms with everyone she met.

Kiran sighed as he picked up one of the fallen fish and looked it over. Aside from a little dirt, it hadn't taken much damage in the fall. But he doubted he could sell it. Who would want a fish that had fallen on the ground? He could always clean them and bring them home. If his mother cooked them, she would end up frying them to a crisp, that would eliminate any contamination, he thought.

He was surprised when someone handed him the other fish that had fallen out of the crate. At the market, it seemed people were always too self-centered to pay attention to anyone else around them. Or at least, that was what he had observed after many hours of watching them from above. Under other circumstances, Kiran probably would have turned around and yelled at the person to apologize for their rudeness in bumping into him. But with his arms full with the crate of fish, it didn't seem like the best time to pick a fight with someone. The chance of making money seemed to curb those kind of outbursts.

Kiran lifted his head and smiled at the woman, surprised again to see it was the woman that he saw a moment ago with the wolf. "I'll be selling them down at the docks as soon as I set up a stall," he answered as he took the offered fish. He rearranged the the fish on top so that the clean fish were all to one side. Then he carved a line in the ice and set the two fish that had fallen on the other side. As long as he didn't bumped into again, he would have no problems identifying the dirty fish this way.

"It's not that heavy," Kiran said as he hefted the crate into his arms again then stood. "Are you new here?" he asked, his mouth moving before his brain thought. But he didn't remember ever seeing her before.

“Oh, do you mind if I come along? Since I have bumped into you there is no point in looking around for another vender. I am still not used to the market layout.” She rubbed the back of her head, she really did not know where to get started so it might be best to stick with someone who actually knew what they were doing, the fact he had what she was looking for was just killing two birds with one stone. Despite her offer to help the man seemed quite content on doing the task at hand by himself, she did not mind, after all she would have probably of been more of a nuisance than a help anyway. She smiled and nodded her head at his question, a lot of people said that on meeting her – she had accepted at this point that her face was just not one that most remembered so instead she had just began to agree to the statement. It was easier than explaining that she had moved here a while ago but for numerous reasons was rarely in public eye. “I guess you could say that. My name is Sara.”

She bowed her head out of respect, expecting a name back. It was at this time that Nori growled and nudged her hand. Sara blinked and looked down at the wolf for a moment before she clicked on to what he wanted her to do. “... Oh, this is Nori. He does not bite; well not unless he sees you as a threat.” She nodded, he wolf letting out a small bark in hello. She reached down and stroked him in-between the ears before lacing her fingers in front of her once more, tilting her head to the side with a small smile. Nori sniffed at the boy some, before sitting down at the side of his master’s pupil. He had his eye on that one, as he did on everyone him and Sara bumped into. He knew the girl was too trusting. It is what got her into trouble time and time again.

“... I really like your shells; did you pick them up on one of your fishing trips?” She asked, assuming he was a fisher; otherwise she struggled to see why he was selling them. The item she was referring to were the strands of beads and decorative shells he wore around his vest. Sara and her mother used to make accessories and decorative items out of shells and rocks all the time, which is probably what drew her eye to them. Either way, she was just trying to be friendly and start a conversation.

Kiran tried to give a roll of his shoulder, but it was difficult while carrying the crate of fish. "Sure. The docks aren't to much farther that way." He nodded with his head in the direction that he had been heading before having to stop because someone bumped into him. "Name's Kiran." He would have offered her a handshake, but his hands were rather full at that moment. So he settled with giving her a bright smile.

Kiran looked down at the wolf at Sara's side. "Hello, Nori." He chuckled. "That's good. I get bitten enough by Zibaniz." He shuddered in memory of how vicious that falcon could be. But it seemed that Zibaniz only had anger issues toward Kiran. He never could figure out what he could have possibly done to make the falcon hate him so much. But eventually he would get his own mew to house his own falcon Aditi. Then he wouldn't have to go near Zibaniz again.

"Huh?" The question snapped Kiran out of his thoughts about the falcons. He dropped his gaze to the strands of beads about his neck. "Ah, no, not me," Kiran said with a shake of his head, causing his blue hair to flop about with the action. "My sister made them for me." They weren't anything fancy or elegant like some of the jewelry he saw other Lunarians wearing, but he liked them.

"Ahh, I see." She smiled and began to follow after him, her light marine eyes scanning the huge flow of people, she had to admit she was feeling a little claustrophobic, the mass amount of life in the city was something to this day she was yet to get used to. She reached her hand out a little when someone bumped into him yet again, but quickly returned it when she saw him was not off balance, giving a nervous chuckle. "Wow, a lot of people want to get to one place quickly..." She commented, there was so much pushing an shoving going on, she did not really understand why people could not just be patient and make way for each other, when someone bumped into Sara herself Nori let out a low pitched growl. Causing the person to give both Sara and her wolf a very dirty look.

"It is nice to meet you Kiran." She bowed her head and returned his smile. everyone here had such interesting names, very different from the Mongolian ones she was used to, even the animals had them. "Zibaniz?" She asked, snapping back into reality as he continued to talk, when he mentioned biting she expected for him to be talking about another wolf or dog, since it never occured to her birds to bite due to their lack of teeth. How very wrong she clearly was.

Her face lit up when he stated he had a sister, that was so cute. "Aww, you have a little sister. That must be nice, I was the only child in my house so I am afraid siblings has not been a blessing that I have personally experienced." She did not know why her mother never had another child, having Sara as the soul ere put a lot of weight on her shoulders. More so she missed out on the company of a brother or a sister, something she really needed at one time. If she ever became a mother she would make sure to have at least two children so they never got lonely, it was the same rule with animals. Despite her aim of becoming a priestess, she still expected to live a normal life, like the one her parents had always told her she would lead.

Maybe that was naive,

It was harder to weave through the thick crowd while carrying the crate of fish. Kiran got knocked into more than once, but he managed to keep his balance, now that he was paying attention to the people surrounding him again. "And I thought coming down here early, I would avoid the rush of people." Kiran shook his head with a light chuckle. "I guess I was wrong." His attention turned for a moment, noticing a rather bulky money purse hanging from the belt of one Lunarian. He would have to remember that man for later.

He nodded his head back. "Ah, Zibaniz. That's one of my father's falcons," he explained with an awkward laugh. "I guess bitten isn't the right word though. Pecked at is probably better. And Zibaniz has a nasty set of talons on him. Very sharp." He winced, remembering the last time Zibaniz managed to get his talons on him.

"Yeah, Xiuying," Kiran said with a fond smile for his sister. Then he blinked and stared at her. "No siblings? There's a time I would have liked that," he mumbled thoughtfully. He felt a pang of guilt following that thought. Over the years, he had grown to really love his sister and became very protective of her. But the way he treated her now didn't erase the guilt of how he treated her before.

"I have never seen such a creature up close, there must be a great deal of skill involved with raising such a majestic beast." Her eyes were almost sparkling in admiration. She would not know where to get started training such a large bird of prey. It was just another fine example of how animals and Lunarian's could live together in harmony. She did not think people here would be so close to beasts but it proved to be the home to many talented tamers which loved them as much as she did.

Sara knitted her eyebrows slightly, she had become good at reading people's eyes and his hand sent her a clear message, her motherly instincts told her to reassure him. She hated seeing anyone down. "We all take what we have for granted sometimes, I am sure she knows how much you love her - if you did not you would not show such emotion in your eyes when you say her name." She stated with a small nervous chuckle before playing with a strand of hair which fell from her shoulder. She liked to play with the long green strands, it was one of the reason's why she liked to wear it down.

"Plus, the fact she made you such trinkets by hand must mean she returns your feelings. The bond that siblings share is so special." She added, she wondered what it would be like to have a older brother, someone to pick her up when she feel down, to talk to without fear of looking foolish. She would have liked that very much, it would be like having a friend constantly at your side. Her eyes drifted over to the docks, the sea air filling her lungs. One day she swore, she would go swimming in that ocean. Her eyes drifted up to the sky. Even though it was still early she had to soon think about heading back and collecting the rest of her supplies before returning home to do some cleaning or dinner would be served late tonight.

"They can be quite troublesome sometimes," Kiran said with a chuckle. He didn't know how his father managed to deal with Zibaniz, but the falcon seemed to be better behaved for his father. "You could come to my family's mew if you wanted to see them up close. My Aditi is far nicer than Zibaniz. As long as you don't startle her, she would probably even let you pet her without trying to n** at your fingers." Aditi liked to n** at his fingers, especially when she thought there might be a treat hidden in his hand. But ever since she got used to him as her owner, she never nipped him very hard. Sometimes, it was more of an affection nibble, like on his earlobe.

Kiran smiled and pondered over that. He had never really asked her about how she felt toward him. Being siblings, of course there was love, but it didn't mean they necessarily had to like each other. And he had been far from nice to her during the early years of their lives. He wouldn't be surprised if she secretly resented him for his treatment of her. Part of him was too scared to ask about it though. What if finding out the answer damaged their current relationship? "You're probably right," he said, turning his head to gaze out before them.

They were coming up to the docks now. The salty smell of the sea filled his lungs as he breathed in. He loved that smell. When he got a place of his own, he hoped it would be by the sea. Maybe he could even learn how to build a boat so that he could sail out onto the open sea and fish like the other fishermen. But that kind of dream was a long way off. "Xiuying is always making little things like that. I think all the creative talent went to her. She's a very talented painter." Kiran swept his gaze over the area as they entered the docks. There was already a crowd of fishermen with stalls set up to sell their catches. He grinned when he found an open stall and headed toward it. "Give me a moment to set up. Then you can select whatever fish you like." He set the crate down behind the stall. Then he started setting out the fish for buyers to see. He made sure to keep the two fish that had fallen off the stall.
PostPosted: Sun May 22, 2011 8:57 am

"That would be wonderful, maybe one day I will come and see them. Though I would prefer to leave with all my fingers in tact." She stated with a small smile, she could imagine being nipped by a sharp beak being quite painful. Though most people were scared that Nori could take of a limb if he really wanted to. In any case being around a animal made you feel more comfortable around them so she was sure Kiran did not feel the same threat as she did. She could tell he was contemplating the words she had spoken.

Simply telling your loved ones you loved them was always a start, she told her parents she loved them every day and it is how she ended every letter she sent to them. She watched as he headed behind the stall. She stopped. Nori coming to a holt by her side, the reached down and stroked his fur. He was such a good wolf and one of the best friends she could ever ask for. "Do not rush on my behalf. I can help if you would like me to." She felt rude not to offer and she did not want him to feel put out on her behalf.

Kiran laughed. "I think I manage to ensure you'll walk away with all your fingers in tact," he said as a winning grin plastered itself across his face. "She really is a sweet bird." As long as she didn't feel threatened in any way, he doubted Sara had anything to worry about with Aditi nipping at her. He glanced Nori beside Sara. He could guess it was likely the same with the wolf. As long as Nori didn't see him as a threat, Kiran wasn't worried about the wolf biting him. And those sharp teeth were surely something to fear if he got on the wolf's bad side.

"It's no big trouble," Kiran said with a shrug as he started laying fish out on top of the ice in the stall. "I lay out the bigger fish first," he explained, leaving it up to Sara whether to help out or not. He searched through the crate of fish he brought, looking for all the big fish to sell first. "If you see what you want, just point it out to me."

"I will take your word on that one then." She smiled as he talked about his bird, if he had such confidence in the creature she saw no reason why she should doubt it.

Sara stood by his side and starting to place the fish on the stall. She did not mind getting her hands dirty, when she was little she used to help on her parents farm on a daily basis so touching raw flesh and other unpleasant things was something she was used to. As she continued to unpack she came across a large silver fish which she saw as the perfect ingredient since it was big enough to feed them both and be able to stuff with the fruit she was going to buy.

"I would like this one please, and I will take the floor fish too. They will still do for the pack." The wolves would rip apart anything you gave to them, sometimes Hua took them into the woods to find their own meal, others they would happily wolf own the leftovers from their own dinner. Nori never went hungry, he was the alpha and no one dare steal his food away from him, he sat by the stall, his nose raised to smell the fish, Sara moved her hand to stroke down his snout and redirect it so he did not try and grab one whilst they were not looking.

Kiran looked after to see the fish that she had picked out. It was easily one of the largest fish he got that day to sell. "Good choice," he said as he finished laying out the last few fish in his stall. He took the fish from her and wrapped it up for her. "The floor fish too?" He was surprised to hear her request the fish that had fallen on the ground as well. His gaze dropped to Nori, who seemed to be sniffing at the fish in the stall. Ah. His confusion evaporated as he realized what she meant.

"At least they won't go to waste," he said with a smile. He took the two fish out of the crate and wrapped them up for her as well. "I had planned to just take them home." After that, he wasn't sure what exactly he would do with them. They could make a nice treat for the falcons. After wrapping up the fish, he handed them over to Sarangerel. "Anything else you need?"

Kiran kept an eye on the people passing by his stall. Many people simply walked by, heading toward some of the more well known vendors at the docks. But a couple of people paused to look at the fish that he had for sale. He smiled at those people, waiting to see if they would come to buy anything from him.
