This is a private roleplay between Sarangerel [Oooka] and Jianyu [Kuro].

Setting

Sara travels to Cherry Tree Hill in hope of bumping into a old friend, maybe instead she bumps into a new one?
PostPosted: Mon Mar 28, 2011 3:11 pm

Things was just starting to get back to normal, proof that no matter what happens life goes on. Hua had been keeping a extra close eye on her young student since the attack in the forest and it was only now that Sara had healed that she let her wonder about freely again; with the supervision of Nori of cause. Nori to anyone who did not know was Hua’s Alpha, he was a black wolf with one yellow eye, the years of battles and service had left the proud creature scared, taking one of his eyes and several chunks of fur but despite this the wolf walked with its head held high. Hua knew as long as the large beast was by Sara’s side she would be safe. Today the young Mongolian was heading towards Cherry Tree Hill. In the winter she had met Youhei there and she was hoping that she would bump into him again, after all that had happened she needed a friend, someone to talk to. The past few weeks whilst she was recovering and getting her emotions back in check had been hard, especially because she had faced it alone for the most part. She did not want to burden her friends with her problems. Seeing as everyone had their own to deal with.

It was not long until she found herself in font of the landmark, she looked up at the branches in awe. Last time she was here the ground was frosty but now life had started to come back into the tree. Buds were growing soon to blossom. Sadly there was no sign of her friend, it was not like Youhei and Sara had much of a connection, they did not talk about deep and meaningful things but right now that is what she needed. After all she was so shy around people she needed someone she could feel comfortable around and since coming here he had been the most constant face and the most mature. She looked down at the wolf and stroked his head. “I guess that means it is just me and you Nori.” She nodded with a small smile, she lived with all of the Wolf Maiden’s pack but Nori was special and she could understand why Hua had the closest bond with Nori, he was the eldest and had the most personality; she loved all the animals but everyone had a favourite, he was hers. The large canine wondered over to the tree and settled down between the routes waiting to be joined.

Sara stroked her hair behind her fin like ear as the wind blew her long teal strands. It was a pleasant day, not too warm, not too cold. Winter was melting away to become spring, the perfect time to just relax and appreciate the beauty of the season. She has always loved nature, the weather, seasons, back home on the farm the outdoors did literally run her life and she missed running around in the fields at times. Especially when she was stuck in a classroom, thought it had gotten easier. This was her life now, her destiny, she had come to accept it. She missed her family and her old home but they told her this was her best chance in life, it was not easy but she never expected it to be. She new what she had to do now and even though she learned the hard way through her attack she felt that she had a better outlook on Lunaria itself, it might be beautiful but it had its dangers and she would be stupid to still be naive to them. It was time to grow up.

He pale eyes went to Nori, settling down next to him in the shade of the three, her thin fingers stroking through his fur and closing her eyes to embrace the sunlight. I guess it made you appreciate the peaceful moments like this more. The little things in life that made you smile. The wolf rested his head on his front paws leaning into her strokes, he was perfectly trained as his many years of service proved. However he was still not above a good tickle behind the ears every so often. Yet after a moment he lifted his head looking down the path, his delicate canine ears picking up the sound of someone coming in this direction. Sara blinked.“W-what is it boy?”

As usual, Jianyu was going up to Cherry Tree Hill.

This had become a normal occurrence for him, nearly a daily one. The top of Cherry Tree Hill had long since become his favorite place in all of Lunaria. Jianyu loved the quiet history of the tree, the calmness and solitude he could expect to experience while sitting there. It held quite a bit of memories as well; Bataar had given him a flower under here, had kissed him, and he had gotten into a fight with Sakngea here, one that had ended with Jianyu bringing the young man back to his home, where they had been able to reach some sort of truce. And then there were the people he had met, like the cheerful Van, the times he had spent with Yue, just talking. It was a beautiful place, the gnarled, ancient tree with its twisted branches from which flowers bloomed and children climbed so that they could let out small gasps at the spectacular view from which one could see all of Lunaria. The cold season had passed, now, and it was growing greener; the flowers had begun to bloom on top of Cherry Tree Hill once more.

Jianyu traipsed quietly up the well worn path towards the tree, dressed not in his armor this morning, but in a simple black and silver cheongsam, his hands tucked into his sleeves - though he was not completely unarmed, as there was a dagger hidden in the left sleeve of his top. One could never be too off his guard. His hair was free today, tumbling over his shoulders in long waves, a few pulled back with a thin wooden stick twisted in the dark strands. It was his day off, and Jianyu was free from both training and his duties at his father's tattoo house. He had decided to take the time to himself and spend it meditating up at the top of his favorite hill.

Yet, when he rounded the bend and the tree came into view, someone else did as well; a girl, someone Jianyu did not recognize. He slowly came to a stop, his eyes sweeping up and down her small frame. She had dark hair, ebony with a hint of forest green in it, and pale eyes that contrasted oddly with the the dark tresses. She was younger than he was, perhaps in her mid to late teens, and slender.

Jianyu stepped past her, giving her a nod in greeting. "Good morning," he said lightly, moving towards the tree.

Once again the wolf’s ears proved to be correct and a man came into sight, Sara’s eyes flickered over in his direction as he approached. Nori watched him closely; the inner working of his mind trying to work out if he was friend or foe. Sara on the other hand was not calculating wither he was or not a thread but instead was just taking in the new face. He was a handsome man with long brown hair, the fact his clothing was so casual gave him a more approachable aura, Sara herself would have not guessed at this moment in time that he was a captain. She on the other hand was in her usual clothing; unlike a fighter she did not have armour or anything specific for battle. She just wore what was given to her. Every so often her master would request her ware something specific for a ceremony but besides that she could always be caught in the same kind of wear.

She pushed herself off the ground, Nori standing beside her. She gave a small bow out of respect. Sara was so confused by Lunaria courtesy, how you addressed some people this way and another way for others. She just threat everyone like they were royalty and then she could not offend everyone. “G- good morning, sir. – I hope the day finds you in good health.” She stuttered, a nervous habit she could not help. Truthfully she did not even notice that she was doing it anymore, unless she was told so or corrected. It was just another thing about herself she needed to prove on, another cross on the list. As she leant back up her eyes caught sight of the eye patch the man wore.

It made her think of Nori, he only had one eye as well. She shook her head, not wanting to stare and instead her attention went to her companion, her long fingers stroking the fur on his head. She was very shy and did not really know what to say in situations when she found company, yet she hated awkward silences and did not want him to think she was ignoring him so she attempted to be friendly and as always said the first thing that came into her mind. “Will the tree bloom soon? I have not been a resident long enough to see the flowers... I come here every so often in hope.” She stated with a nervous chuckle. “Not that it is not a wonderful sight any time of the year... “ She added on the end quickly.

Thinking about it, she could not remember ever seeing cherry blossom... there were no trees back home she could remember.

The bow the girl gave him was polite and a little shy. Jianyu offered her a small smile, returning the greeting with a very slight incline of his head towards her. As both a Captain and an older man, it was not necessary for him to lower himself to her, but he still appreciated the gesture. "It does, thank you," he answered her, his hands tucked into his sleeves, resting lightly against his middle. "I trust the day finds you in good health as well, good maiden."

The large creature beside her was obviously a wolf; Jianyu had only seen a few before, never one so tame and docile as this one. It was large and a surprisingly elegant beast; Jianyu felt a secret desire to reach out and stroke its furred head, to feel the murmuring rumble of its heart beneath the fur, but he restrained himself. To do so without permission would be both improper and impolite, especially seeing as how he did not know who this girl was. He had caught her staring at his eyepatch, but the gesture was to be expected; everyone stared, and Jianyu had long since grown used to it.

Slightly amused, he made his way over to the tree, stopping beneath it to look up at its empty branches. The cold season was only just barely beginning to end, though at the moment it was warm out; warm, with a gentle breeze that tugged at Jianyu's hair. He closed his eyes briefly, inhaling the scent of wood and rain and grass, but the girl's shy, quiet voice interrupted his inner musings, and Jianyu turned where he stood, keeping his hands in his sleeves.

"It should bloom soon, yes," he answered her, and glanced up at the tree with a fond expression, reaching out a hand to press against its massive, gnarled trunk. It was as if he could feel all of Lunaria in this tree; the life that flowed through it was priceless. "When it is ready to bloom, it will."

Jianyu let his hand drop, and turned back to the girl. "I do not believe we have met yet," he said, tilting his head as he regarded her, his eyebrows lifting in mild interest. "Might I inquire as to your name?"

Sara watched as the man approached the tree, her eyes following the movements of his hand as he stroked it. "Does this tree mean a lot to you sir?.... I... sorry that must seem like a odd question. It's just you touch it like you were greeting a old friend. You do not have to answer." She gave a nervous chuckle and waved her hands infront of her slightly, she did not mean to sound nosey. It was just a observation and as always she spoke before her mind had time to process her thoughts. A habit which especially made itself obvious when she was nervous, which the presence of strangers always made her. However this time she was watching her words and gestures more than usual --- she had never really addressed grown ups before, then again none had really taken the time to talk to her unless they needed to.

"Yes, certainly. M-my name is Sarangerel Odtsetseg. However most people call me Sara... I am a Academy student." She bowed once again but this time not as low as she initially did, she should have really introduced herself straight away instead of rambling on about trees. Then her green eyes drifted to the wolf still by her side. "Oh and this is Nori of the Ookami House. He is my.... guardian." Nori was Hua's eyes when she was not around. A wolf which would attack and give her chance to escape if he ever felt like she was threatened. The animal itself had seen many battle with his master. Sara herself respected him like she would any aged solider. She stood straight once more, stepping towards the man slowly now she was in a conversation with him. "M-may I ask your name as well, sir... if that is okay?"

She asked, Nori came to stand by her side once more. His attention was still on the stranger but as it seemed he had shown no indication of hostile behaviour, yet he was not willing to let his guard down because he knew that could change in a second. Sara held her hands in-front of her, fingers laced together, her eyes for the most part on the floor with her long teal hair trialling over her shoulders. She hated tying her hair up, it felt so restricting. Hua had told her many times that the servants would be able to do it up in some fantastic styles, however she thought that it suited her more natural and plain. She was still not ready to conform and become a true Lunarian lady, her mother always had her hair down --- so I guess you can say she was keeping it so she could look in the mirror and still recognise herself as the girl from the farm.

One blue eye flitted towards the young woman, faint amusement barely visible. At first glance it might have seemed as if the Captain were merely scrutinizing the girl, giving her a quick once over, but his gaze lingered longer than a simple examination. Jianyu lifted a brow. "Indeed," he replied demurely, casting his eyes upon the thick bark of the tree, the way the dark brown wood twisted and curved against the flat of his palm, the feel of the life within the tree. Yes, the tree meant a lot to him. It was a symbol of life amidst Lunaria, a tall, graceful embodiment of everything important, everything that Lunaria was.

"It is important to all of us," he finally answered the girl, then gave a small laugh, low and quiet. "And you do not need to be so formal; I wish for no formalities here. My name is Qian Jianyu. I am a Captain of the Legion forces."

Turning his eyes back towards the tree, Jianyu found himself looking up into the pale green buds slowly beginning to grow. Soon it would bloom, tiny pink petals alighting upon the gnarled branches, and the the petals would drift out across Lunaria, catching on the clothing of the people passing by, fall into the hair of the women, brush against the cheeks of the men, The children would catch them in their palms, throw them at each other, collect them and press them into books to save them for later.

The cherry tree was what made Lunaria alive.

"So, Sarangerel Odtsetseg and Nori of the Ookami House," Jianyu said, still looking up into the depths of the tree. "What brings you to this hill this fine afternoon? Surely it could not be for my dizzying intellect and witty conversation."

"I am s-sorry." She stuttered once more before trying to explain why she was acting in such a way. "I seem to be very good at offending people by accident, so I might watch my words a little too closely in order not to." Not everyone in Lunaria was as laid back as Jianyu when being addressed to someone younger than them - especially a women. Though she had to admit his words did lift a weight off of her shoulders - he seemed very kind. Though continuing on her eyes widened and his attempt to calm her down and make her less nervous failed when she heard his title.

"C-captain? I can not say I have ever met someone of your rank before - its a honour. I would not have guessed, you have such a calming aura. I do not mean that in a offensive way - it is a good thing if anything." She felt like she had put her foot in her mouth - I guess this was a prime example of how you could never judge a book by its cover. More so it was a example of how you should never let your guard down - especially around people who you would normally feel safe around. Thank goodness they were on the same side, the fact he had admitted his alience first made her feel more comfortable admitting hers. If he had being a Noble captain and she had said - the air might be very different. "Either way, it is a pleasure to meet you Captain Jianyu. I am also a Legionnaire."

She chucked slightly at his comment and nodded her head. "I am sure if I had known you would be here, I would have come for your witty conversation anyway. Your words hold a certain charm." She stated before looking over to the tree, not really knowing how to explain his next question. "I was just wondering around, I like coming here to think about things and to admire the view. Feeling so close to nature makes me feel at home - I guess the tree is my friend too." She added looking up at the small buds with her pale eyes. She did come here to reflect however having someone to talk to was better - especially when they were so easy to socialise with. She did feel a comfortable air around him, one that she did not feel very often. It helped her look past her shyness, just a little bit.

He was making the girl nervous, though Jianyu was not entirely certain as to why. There was the fact that he was several ranks higher than she, but Jianyu had never before found it all that difficult to converse with those of lower statuses than himself (Yue and Huang-Fu being good examples of those, as well as Ran). If anything, he rather enjoyed speaking with them, more than he liked speaking with his superiors; which, Jianyu supposed, was the same as Sarangerel. He offered her a serene smile, turning his face back towards the tree.

"It takes quite a bit to offend me, Lady Odtsetseg," he said, and a low chuckle escaped his lips, quiet and gentle. "You need not fear my disdain, nor my disregard merely because I am a Captain and you are an Academy student. Not especially since we are of the same alliance." His eyes fluttered briefly to rest upon Sara's face, and the expression was calm, a faint hint of amusement evident in the way that his lips tilted upwards slightly. "Besides, there is no need for formalities or caution when today is such a beautiful day, and we reside in the presence of such a beautiful tree."

The cherry tree had a way of making one feel relaxed. Closing his eyes, Jianyu breathed in the sweet, familiar scent, letting the crisp, clean air fill his lungs, smooth throughout his veins. When he opened his eyes, he turned back to the younger girl, hands still tucked neatly into his sleeves.

"It seems as if we share the same sort of admiration and respect for this tree, then," Jianyu murmured, and drew his hand out of his sleeves, work-roughened fingers brushing against the gnarled trunk. "I have many memories regarding this tree, and while not all of them...pleasant, persay, all of them precious, regardless of the outcome."

Shifting, Jianyu pushed a few stray, windblown strands of hair from his face, regarding Sara curiously. "What is it you seek, Sarangerel Odtsetseg? What is it you wish to ask of Lunaria, of this tree?

"What are you searching for?"

Sara looked at him and put her hand to her lips, thinking for a moment about what she did want out of life. She had so many ambitions and she did not know how to summarise them but after a moment or two the words came to her. "I guess I have many dreams. I want to be a Priestess, and a healer. I want to be a mother and a wife. Someone who people will miss when my body is returned to the sea and as a spirit be able to rest in peace knowing the world I left is a little better because I was a part of it. What more can any of us wish for?" She asked with a small smile, a small blush came to her face and she looked away wondering how that must have sounded.

"They maybe be silly... and maybe a little naive and childish but they are mine and I would be lying if I said anything else." She admitted, she knew it should not matter to her if they were silly. They were hers and they were close to her heart - it was not wrong to want a little bit of normality even if they were at war. She was brought up very traditionally, and her view on life came from her mother. She was Sara's idol, she was a loving women who she respected and loved, she had always tried to be like her but was never able to be as.. perfect as she saw her. Maybe part of her even wanted to live her life, family always meant to much to her and she wanted to care for one of her own. If she ever found the right partner.

All she knew for sure, she did not want to be a warrior. Though she had nothing against them she would rather heal injuries than inflict them.

"Though that is all in the future, for now I want to obtain the diligence and discipline I need to graduate so I can start to do some real good - I have trained so hard but it is still a long way away. I do not want to be too over-ambitious already. How about you? Even though you are a man who has come so far you must still have dreams and ambitions?" She asked, Jianyu could have probably sat down and told her many things, she could learn a lot from him and his experiences however he could not know and have done everything. It would be interesting to know his own answer to his question.

Her answer was surprisingly straightforward. Jianyu tilted his head, amused at the bluntness, the calmness of her reply. For a few moments he just looked at her, as if gauging the weight of her words, carefully turning them over in his mind.

"You are a curious young woman," he said at last, and shook his head with amusement, stepping back around the tree so that he could lean his back against it and look down at the young woman. "Your desires are quite...quite interesting. And by the tone of your voice, I can see that you are not one to take such things lightly. Pray tell, do you strive towards them daily? Keep your heart and your head connected so that when the time comes, you will know what is right for you?"

It was a question he should have asked himself. Jianyu gave a small sigh, reaching up a hand to rub at his forehead. Sara's question caught him off guard, however, and for a few seconds he blinked at her, still lost in his thoughts before he managed to drag himself free. A small smile played at the corners of his lips.

"What do wish for, hmm..?" he said softly, and pushed himself away from the tree, stepping slowly over towards Sara until he was a few feet away, hands tucked into his sleeves once more.

"I want to be able to see," Jianyu answered simply, and his voice was calm, without a hint of sarcasm to it. "And I do not just mean I wish to have my vision restored. That will never happen. What I wish for is to see what is needed so that I may learn what to do."

Sara looked at him curiously as he spoke and then let out a small giggle holding her hand up to her mouth and closing her eyes. "Haha, I have been called worse." She nodded and opened her pale eyes to look at him once more. He moved around a lot as he talked, there was something elegant about him - how he leant against the tree, the looks he gave. They all moved so smoothly, like a gentle breeze.

Though his next words made he think, she put her finger on her chin and let her eyes drift to the side as she thought. After a moment she snapped her fingers with a soft smile on her face. "I try to but usually I find my heart and my head are pulling me in two different directions and it is difficult to know which one to follow, as is life. I mean there is the tactical thing to do and the loving thing to do. Mastering that balance is a sign of a truly amazing person and I am afraid such words can not describe me. Maybe one day I will get it right. I work towards my graduation daily though, and put all my heart and soul into my studies. If I was not passionate about what I do... I would not get anywhere so I hope that answers your questions." She explained, she was not the best at putting her point across however she hoped he would understand. Otherwise she must have sounded like a complete nut case.

She let out another small chuckle, Jianyu was sweet and well spoken and she felt comfortable around him. So much so Nori felt he could relax which was a first. The black wolf laid under the tree with his nuzzle on hie paws keeping a eye on things but not on high alert. Sara's calmness convinced him no danger was here. "You are right about me though, my Master says I am a bit of a worry wart. I do not take many things lightly, especially things as important to me as my dream's. Even choosing what scented incense to burn in the temple takes up a good five minuets out of my day." As he moved towards her she looked to the ground with a small red taint to her cheeks. It was not until after he gave his answer than her eyes drifted up to look at him once more.

"I... am sorry about your eye. Though clearly it has not effected your ability or so your title suggests. It is admirable you have not let it defeat you and that you are able to accept it. Really..." It was one thing loosing such a important part of yourself, your eyes showed you the world and she did not know how she could cope loosing one. Though he was able to talk about never having his sight back so calmly, it really did make her look at him in a whole new light - she respected him. Not just the respect that she gifted others he had earned it in her eyes on a whole new level.

"Only the spirits know which direction our paths will take, however I will prey to them to give you such a gift Jianyu, I hope when it is needed they will lend you their eyes." She nodded, giving him a small bow. She preyed for so many things, one for another would not hurt her and who knows if he ever needed it... maybe her prayers would be answered. She knew not everyone had the faith she had in the spirits though she did not see them as bad people for it... she would just have to prey extra hard for them.

Jianyu offered Sara a small smile, tilting his head towards the young woman. "It seems we all have that fate sometimes, does it not..?" he responded softly, in regards to the comment she had made about her heart and head pulling her in two different directions. "Though admittedly...my circumstances are much more...unusual than what one might think of them. I have not the 'heart' that some possess, but I have had my fair share of conflicting emotions."

His thoughts strayed to Bataar; the Noble Captain and the Legion Captain, both on opposite sides, yet former lovers and close friends. During their eventual breaking off with each other; that horrible mission where he had found Bataar murdering one of the Legion authorities on order, Jianyu had thought to himself this is what they meant when they said it was impossible for us to be together. But his heart had pulled him towards Bataar, though his mind was struggling to pull him the other direction. It had turned out well enough, he supposed, since he and Bataar had made him (a tad violently, but their relationship had never been ordinary to start with, even before they were together romantically), but sometimes it left Jianyu feeling a little strange.

He dragged himself out of his inner musings, casting a curious glance towards the girl. She was an open sort; willing to share her feelings, yet still held that sort of quiet reservation about her that gave her a sort of elegance that was really rather endearing. Jianyu gave her a warm smile.

"There is no need to feel sorry for me," he replied gently, reaching a hand up to brush his fingers over the black silk cloth. "It has become a part of my life. Though at the beginning it was quite...a hindrance and more, I have learned to deal with it as best I can. Truthfully, it can be a little bothersome at times," Jianyu added with a small laugh, shaking his head. "But such is life."

Her next words surprised him, his brows rising. But after a long moment of regarding her, his face softened, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips.

"I thank you," he answered her, and pressed his hands together, palms flat as he bowed to her as well. The gesture was more out of gratitude than respect, though it was a mixture of both. "I pray the spirits guide your feet well."

It was growing to late afternoon now, and Jianyu glanced up at the sky, turning to make his way back down the hill. But he stopped, giving Sara a mild smile.

"And I pray your heart and mind will connect," he said.

Sara looked upon the long haired captain and nodded her head at his gestures, taking in the words he was saying. It was not often she had a conversation which someone involving such deep topics, thought it was a nice change and the soothing atmosphere did help the mood a lot. He was just a really easy man to talk to. "The spirits have a habit of throwing obstacles in our paths, to see if we can overcome them, to make us stronger. Many people say they work in mysterious ways and to me no truer words have ever been spoken." She smiled and brushed her hair over her shoulder slightly, she had complete faith in the spirits. She had talked to them and learned how to manipulate them to a extent, so she had no reason to deny them - all the proof in the world was inside her mind.

The time of day did not escape her either and in that moment she saw her new found captain turn to walk away and say his own little goodbye. She would have offered to walk back with him but then decided it would be best if she stayed her with Nori a little longer, he was all the company she needed to make her way back home. "Thank you for your company, I hope you have a safe journey home." She hoped that she would meet him again one day, maybe when the Cherry Blossom were in bloom she would come back to find him here.
