"No you didn't!" Amelia's flat mate told her. "You're lying, you can't even ask a teacher for an extension and you're telling me you went and talked to the guy you've been obsessing over all Freshman and Sophmore year?" Amelia turned her tired eyes towards her friend. "Yes." "Who are you and what have you done with Amy?" the girl asked, slamming her hand to her face. "It's not that unusual... I... I mean I just asked him for help with Mythology class... but... but its a start, he said he'd help me out with anything I need so I will get to talk to him again, maybe get more comfortable around him and-" "Get him drunk one night while studying and hump his-" "El!" She interrupted, "You know thats not- stoppit!" El laughed and returned to the doorway. "If you have any more mind boggling changes please please come tell me, my internets out and your crazy is much more interesting." Amelia waved her hand towards the door in a dismissal. She waited for the girl to leave and stood up and looked at the class table on her wall, Religious studies at 9 the next day and then ancient mythology at 1 PM... mostly a free day though. Maybe she should call Mason... And say what? 'I dont know how to do the work I havent been assigned yet! Wanna make out?' Dammit girl, you are an idiot. She turned her head and looked up at the clock above her door, it was still fairly early, the bus to the ruins just outside New Virterra wouldn't leave for a few hours. Plenty of time to go find her best friend and get some late lunch or early dinner. She wondered for a moment if they would go to the cafeteria or into town, either was fine, the bus was picking people up in both places... and perhaps she could convince her friend to come along, it was free and they had some spaces left, who knows perhaps somethign newsworthy would happen.
Amelia smiled and picked up her phone, hit 2 and started the call. Speed Dial for the win! "Hey, yeah, I was wondering if I can take her to get some lunch Dinner Linner or something... yeah... sure, sounds good, Thanks!" She smiled to herself, her friend was going to freak when she found out what she'd done.

Long, wiry, auburn curls twisted out in awkward kinks from the bun held loosely with a pencil at the back of her head. Two other pencils were stuck behind each of her ears and one was between her teeth while she scribbled furiously at a notepad on the desk before her. It had taken her two weeks to get this interview and she wanted to get every detail of information down while it was fresh in her head.
Halfway down the page, the lead of her pencil snapped and she tossed it aside and took the one from her teeth. Her name was Camilla Pierce and she was an second year student at the university and had high honors in each of her classes, journalism especially.
Before she could finish her sentence, all hell broke loose in the dorm beside hers one of her classmates reacted to some sort of news. Her train of thought broken, Camilla sighed and dropped the pencil to the desk before going out into the hall and knocking on the door.
"I know you're in there, Amy, I heard you squeak at El!" She sighed and scratched behind her ear, dropping the pencil resting there and quickly catching it and returning it and pushing the huge, circular rimmed glasses that she only used for reading further up her nose.

Amelia jumped to the door and pulled it open, dragging her best firend into an embrace that would tell her that something was right... or wrong, depending on whether or not she could see the future archaeologists face. She stepped back grinning, holding onto the intrepid reporters wrist and pulling her inside. "Just give me a second and well head downstairs, we're going for lunch." She let the girls wrist go as the door closed so that she could quickly throw her camera bag over her shoulder and pull her mothers antique necklace over her head, she always wore it outside, she wasn't sure why.. "And don't try to protest, your editor told me you've got until saturday to turn in the interview and you already did it, AND you have a recording to work from. I'm goign to tell you what ensighted my exclamation and maybe I'll even convince you to come with me to Denver caverns. Your editor told me last week that they've been thinking abotu doing an editorial about the guys that have gone missing there. Maybe you could do it." Amelia pulled on her boots and pulled her shirt down so that it was a little looser, not all scrunched up. "You ready?" She asked, raising an eyebrow, "Heres a sneak peak into my story... I spoke to him!"

Her mind still on her work, and not entirely ready for social interaction, it took Camilla a great deal of self control to avoid letting her aggravation out toward her friend. By the time the whirlwind that was Amy dragged her out into the hall from the dorm-flat, Camilla's mind had finally caught up.
"You did what?! When?" She exclaimed, tucking an unruly strand of curl behind one ear and catching a pencil as it fell. "And what are you doing calling my editor?! Are you trying to get me fired?!"
(sorry it sucks)

"First of all your editor is my cousin, second, I just asked if you were allowed to go out for lunch, because I knew you'd give me all the worlds worth of excuses if I asked you." She turned and smiled at her best friend. "I love you Mill, but you haven't got a social bone in your body." She hitched her camera bag a little higher on her shoulder and brushed a length of her own hair behind her ear. "Yeah, yesterday I saw him studying in the library, and you know how I changed one of my Minors to Ancient Mythology? Well I figured, he's one of my T.A.s and so maybe I should ask him for help." She smiled to herself about her own ingenuity, and then frowned a little. "I know its not much but... you knwo you got to start somewhere, I mean I talked to him, who'd have thought I'd do that a week ago?" The pair stepped out of the dorms into the quad and turned left towards the cafeterias, the pay for one, with private tables, not the free college one that had you sit with a large group of people on long benches. "Anyway, he said he'd help with anything I need, so maybe it'll work out for the best." She took in a breath, she did like to talk when she had news. She turned to her friend and cocked her head to the side. "And how are you? Hows the write up of the interview going?"

Camilla made a face at the jab about her social skills. She had social bones! She had lots of them! ...They were just all reserved for when she needed to charm a targ-interviewee. Camilla was soon distracted by more information about the boy and her face lit up with a grin as she gave her friend a side hug while they walked, slipping one arm over Amy's shoulder to give her a light squeeze.
"I'm proud of you! Soon you'll have him eating out of the palm of your hand! He'll be coming to you!" She said happily. "That was clever of you, Lia."
With a shrug, Camilla released Amy from the hug and and stuffed her hands into her pockets before answering the question about the interview. "It's coming...I still say I'd be better off following that story about the dying supers...This is ridiculous. Sell-by dates? I mean, really?" She slapped a hand over her face and pinched the bridge of her nose.
"I s'pose strays have to eat the scraps before they get the mutton..." She shrugged again and reached out to open the door to the cafeteria, holding it open for Amy to go through.

"Story about dying supers?" Amelia inquired. "Isn't that what the globes harping on about these days? You know its probabl just another one of their conspiracies, like when they said we'd be frozen over by last month. I'm sure we're still alive." Amelia considered for a moment how her last few months she had done little more than go to class and watch sit coms on her laptop. "Almost sure..."
Amelia sat down at a two person table by the window and placed her bag down against the window, so any potential thieves would have to go through both herself and her wiley reporter friend to get the bg with over $3000 worth of camera and research equipment in. A little while passed and a watress came over. "Hey Amy, Cam, what can I get you?" "Hey Lucy," Amy smiled, brushing some stray hairs behind her ear. "can I just get a green salad and... a... sprite? Ooh, No, Make that Mountain Dew!" "Sure, Cam? What can I get you? Oh, and by the way, my manager wanted me to thank you for the review you gave us. Some of the free food kids have started coming here instead of their usual haunt over in the dorms."
Once Lucy got Camilla's order she smiled, tapped the end of her pen agaisnt her note pad and tucked it behind her ear, striding off back to her post. "Man I wish I had her confidence." Amy sighed, turning away from Miss Young. "I would have been able to say more to him than 'Um... yes'" She smiled, self annoyed.

"Murders. Super murders." Camilla corrected calmly while Amelia rambled a little. Cam took a seat at the little table with her friend and rested her elbows on the top. She rested her hands on the back of her neck, massaging lightly, and realized just how much she needed this break. The aspiring journalist had been hard at work for four hours straight and hadn't even realized it.
When the waitress, a pretty girl about their age, came over and asked for their orders, Camilla looked up and smiled a little. "Hey, Luce." She greeted. "I'll have the chicken wrap with a water, please and thanks." When Lucy thanked her for the review she'd written, Cam couldn't help blushing. She loved writing, she loved her job, but getting any attention for it always embarrassed her. She didn't like the recognition, she just liked giving facts so people were informed and so she could help them.
"I'm glad it's helped. Let me know if I can do anything more." She replied bashfully as she made herself busy taking the pencils out of her hair to let it fall in a long, curly mess. Her locks tumbled down from the bun she had them wrapped in and didn't stop until they reached her belt.
Lucy smiled and went to put their orders in to the cook and Camilla smiled as Amelia commented on Lucy's confidence. "I wish I had her body. She's like a properly proportioned Barbie with a good heart and personality. If you had her confidence you'd have asked him to marry you by now." She joked with her friend. "It'll happen, though. Your shyness is your charm and he'll love you."

Amy blushed a deep shade of red, Love her? whoa, thats... really? could he ever love her? Amy kept looking over at Lucy, a really nice girl, and she would have to call her a friend by definition, but while people told her that she, Amy, was no less attractive than the waitress, she didnt believe it, and thats how she knew that she had no chance with the boy. He was Lucy's ex after all. Wow, that little internal ramble had even annoyed her. Her friends must all hate her secretly. She shook her head and forced her return to sanity. She listened to Cam speak and smiled "You look fine the way you are, Cam." she scolded. "From here I can tell you there are three guys checking you- no, wait, four guys. I thought one was looking at me, but aparently I'm invisible today." She frowned and coked her head to the side "Its the glasses, guys dig the glasses." She joked, sitting back as Lucy came back over with two glasses. "Here you go." she said, putting the drinks down in front of the two customers. "By the way, Amy, I'm sorry but I'm not goign to be able to come with you to the caves, I have to pull a double shift here. But here's my ticket incase you can convince someone else to go." "Oh, ok, sorry you can't come. Next time?" Amy offered. "Definately, or you could come over this weekend for some crappy movies, I have a couple of friends coming. You're both welcome to come." "Sounds like fun, I'll tell you tomorrow, if thats cool?" "Got it, Your food will be out in a bit." "Thanks" Lucy smiled and walked off again. "So how about it? you think you can pry yourself away from your writing for an hour to do possible research on an article about caves that your newspaper has been wanting done since that Bryce kid vanished in them?"

Cam rolled her eyes and sat forward, her shoulders stiffening at the thought of anyone watching her, mixed with the disbelief that anyone would. Smacking her lips together, the curly headed brunette glared at her friend across the table, "My point was, dear one, that there's no way he can't love you. You're adorable and have the best heart of anyone I know. Just give him a chance to get to know you."
It was then that Lucy came with their drinks and Camilla took her water gratefully. She was thirsty and studied her water while Amelia and Lucy discussed the change in plans, cringing as the conversation was taking up a lot of time with activities that would take her away from writing.
Finally, Lucy took off to get their food and Amy turned her attention on getting Camilla away again. She was about to decline the invitation, too, having (what she thought to be) too much work to do before her deadline until her friend reminded her about the kid that vanished.
Her shoulders slumped in defeat and she sipped her water. "Fine...But only an hour!" She gulped. "I need to be back by dinner." A sudden smirk spread over her face and she glared evilly at Amy, "You should give the extra ticket to your boy." She laughed and jokingly ran a toe up her friend's leg under the table to tease her.

Amy blushed again, really, at this rate her brain was either going to drown from the mass amount of blood up there, or suffocate from all the blood ignoring the brain and just hanging out in her cheeks. "I... No." she responded, sipping her sprite. "He's- um... not going to be interested in a silly little trip to the ruins just outside town." She took a larger gulp of sprite and turned her embarrassed gaze away. She looked down at her bag and opened the top of it. She reached inside and pulled out a small pouch. she opened it and pulled a usb pen drive out. "Forgot to give you this before, it's the photos you wanted me to take of your current subject. For the article. I edited a few to fit different stories depending on what you need." She put the pouch away and zipped up the bag. "Here's your food," a strange, dumpy, dark haired waitress said, placing the salad down in front of Cam and the wrap in front of Amelia. "Oh, thanks." Amy said, not moving the food, for fear of offending the woman. "What happened to Lucy? she was covering out table." The woman shrugged. "Ran off, dunno where. She said to give you a half price discount for the review though." she added, nodding at Cam. "Oh, ok. Thank you."

Cam smirked and took a sip of her water after dropping a straw into the glass. "Don't be silly. He's just a normal guy like everyone else." She said. "Don't make him up to be more important than he is. There's no reason he shouldn't love you. Everybody loves you."
The curly haired journalist let her friend change the subject as Amy dove into her bag to retrieve a jump drive full of photos that Cam had needed for the story and she took it gratefully. "This'll be great, thanks." She said. "A picture's worth a thousand words and it's only a ten thou' piece. You'll put me out of business." She smiled, meaning it as a compliment. Amy had an amazing eye with photos.
Just then, the waitress came and set the plates down in the wrong order and Camilla arched one brow, about to comment about the woman's careless attitude, but bit her tongue instead. She was overtired, and when she was over tired, she was rude...so she let Amy do all the talking and gave a curt nod to the waitress before the woman toddled off.
"The way Luce runs off like she does is probably why she and Mason aren't together anymore. I like her, don't get me wrong, but she's a bit unstable as far as plans go." Cam said as she switched the plates to their proper places.
"But to answer your question, yeah, I'll go. I could stand getting out and clearing my head for a bit. I'm too close to annoyed with this article, it'll be crap if I don't take a break. When do you want to leave?"

"Oh cool, there are ten pictures on the drive, that's your whole article done then, no?" she joked, then listened as Cam joked abot Lucy. "She's probably a super hero." Amy laughed, swapping plates with Cam. "while it would explain why she's always running off it's also highly unlikely. She's just too... dozy to be a super. I love her to bits, but she couldn't keep her own calendar, let alone a super heroes."
Amy stuck her fork into the lettuce leaves and brought them up to her lips. Mmm, good food, she did like this place. "Oh I figure we'll go after this, take your truck iif thats ok? We can take my car, but I feel embarrassed rolling up at a dig site with such a feminine vehicle... that sounded worse than I meant it." she shook her head embarrassedly. "I've never been to the ruins before, I heard they were some of the most unique pictographs and hieroglyphics ever recorded, even today nobody knows what they say. Hell even in England we know about them... I'm so excited."

Cam had just taken a gulp of water at the same time Amy spoke...and she nearly drowned. Coughing and spluttering, Camilla couldn't hold back the laughter at the thought. That had probably been the closest to mean her well-mannered british friend had ever come to.
Camilla snatched up a napkin and wiped her mouth dry, clearing her throat just one more time before shaking her head. "That was awesome, Ames." She commended. "I love her to bits, too, but that was awesome and very true." She arched one eyebrow, leaning back in her chair to cross her arms over her chest. "You should chat guys up more often, it makes you feisty. I like it."
"We can take my truck. I just filled the tank to go run some errands and get some more interviews this week. It'll be no problem and you can keep your feisty, tough look you seem to be sporting today." It would be nice to just hang out together, they hadn't been able to much lately and Camilla was afraid it was only going to get worse with these stories of super deaths.
(sorry its lame. I've got stories to tell you later. I have to go out with a friend nad her family for her birthday tonight, but I should be back before you sleep.)
