Thanks to those who gave me input! My paper got turned in this morning.

I have a paper to write about my goals degree-wise, and I'm looking to pursue the environmental studies plan. I need to personally interview some people in the field. This can include anyone who gardens for a living too!

If you have time and are interested, please PM me (or post here but I need your name at some point for my works cited) answers to the following questions.

Thank you so much for any and all help.

do you have a degree? is it in environmental studies or something similar? did you take any certificates or minors in related fields? did you go higher than a BA/BS, and if so, was it necessary to get your job? please explain.

if you don't have a degree, how did you get into the field?

have you done volunteer work or internships in the field? Would you recommend it, and how would you rec I get my "foot in the door" of local businesses in this area of expertise?

what minor or certificates would you recommend to make my degree "go further"?

did your degree or experience in the field help land your job? what do you think employers were most interested in when hiring you?

was it hard to find a job related to your degree (if you have one) and interests in this area?

what type of job do you have? how related to your degree(if you have one) is it? what is a typical day like at your job?

do you feel there is potential for growth in this area? would it be hard to make a living in this area?

do you have any other advice or information that might be helpful for me?

I am very close to getting my degree but I don't have it yet. My major is a B.S. of Science with an Environmental Studies Option. I am also working on my own research project this summer (I received grant money from my school). Would you like me to answer these questions even though I don't have my degree yet?

How interesting! My major is Environmental Science and Management B.S. I'm in my first year of college so I don't have any experience other than volunteer work. Are you in high school or in college?

The only thing I can recommend to land any kind of job is to do a lot of volunteer work in a place where you're field is going to be. I currently work at a library, and I got the job through volunteer work at that same library.

I know that around where I live there are several paid internships for high schoolers and above interested in the sciences. For example, there is a NASA lab a few blocks from my college and they offer internships there. I know there are other places too, you'd just have to research that.

I know there is a potential growth in this area, expecially in geology. I am personally biased against geology majors becuase most of them end up working for oil companies to find the next oil location, but serious money is paid in this field.

I want to become an environmental lawyer. I don't think I would make that much money but it's something that I'm passionate about. I want to represent communities who have been polluted by companies like pepsi and shell and I want to make them pay for hte damages they have caused.

Oh there is also potential growth in environmental architecture because a lot of businessess are looking for ways to spend less money and you can do that by becoming an environmental architect. Find more ways to reduce energy usage.

Same thing with the auto industry, find ways to make cars more efficient.

There are so many things you can do with an environmental science degree. The best thing I recommend for you is to research all the various degrees that exist and find out more info about them. Then do a process of elimination and then contact the director of those departments about the prerequisites needed for that major and about the possible fields you can get into.

It requries a lot of research on your part but if you're truly passionate about an environmental major or career then its worth it! Good luck! and don't forget to research clubs at your school that can help you on your resume.

To answer your question, I'm a student at a CC, hoping to transfer to the local Uni in a year or so. Thanks for all your input! <3

no problem! im a CC student also, hoping to transfer to UC Davis. you should check out assist.org if you live in california for specific classes you need to transfer as soon as you find out what your major is. its a really helpful site, dont rely on the counselors, 90% of them dont give a poop about the students.
