The morning was calm and cool, baby birds were chirping for their mothers to feed them. Butterflies drank greedily from the flowers they perched upon. The recently woken up sun cast a soft white glow over the still dewy grass. It was like a painted picture, sitting on a wall waiting to be commented upon. Well it was, at least, until a bulk of a gray and red winged feathered stallion broke that peace.
You see, he was having a not so happy morning so far, his studies with his flying tutor the night before seemed to grate on his nerves. He knew how to fly perfectly fine. Why did he even need lessons? His darkly tipped nose snorted at thinking about it. Mikaru had better things to do with his time, like getting to know the lovely ladies nearby. It mattered not what they rather looked like, be it draft, uni, regular, even kalona, he'd try to befriend them, possibly flirt if the situation allowed. Although, he wouldn't be surprised if said kalona breed tried to kill him for it. Note the try part. Mikaru knew what he should and shouldn't do despite being a young stallion himself.
As Mikaru relaxed in field of flowers and sunbathed he watched as other soquili did the same. Some were mothers with their foals. Other's were stallions testing their skills in mock battles for supremacy. Yes, it seemed like a nice day to just forget about his lessons last night and focus on the other things.

It was a glorious day, and Amarii couldn't help but enjoy the gorgeous weather. Truly, life was perfect, and the pink, red, and white female wasn't going to let it pass by! She picked her way gently over the hills and soft grasses, pausing now and then to study the life surrounding her. It was a crowded day amidst the plains, but that was all the better for her! It meant new faces to meet, new stallions to swoon over, and mares to befriend. It also meant she could play the game of matchmaker, and try to find singletons that desperately needed to find their future Prince Charming, or their own Princess!
Oh, how Amarii loved to play such a role. Perhaps she was a bit too imaginative, as she sometimes let such beliefs get carried away. She wore a crown upon her brow, and pretended she was a princess. Even though her bloodline was fairly mundane, she made sure to act as a female of propriety, and was quick to point out that she really was from a royal lineage. It wan't accurate, of course, but she felt like royalty, so why on earth couldn't she be of such blood?
She was a worthy creature, after all, and she'd show him of all soquili that what he had given up had been more wonderful than his freedom. Oh yes, Amarii hated him, her father, the one creature who had loved hi mother dearly. . . .only to flee once the foals came. Amarii remembered his scent, had heard his voice, and even remembered seeing him in some of her earliest memories. Without a trace, he left. No goodbyes, no fond farewells. Just . . .gone.
And it had ripped her mother to piece.
But that was neither here nor there, and the mare pushed such thoughts away. Keeping her head held proudly, fresh flowers tucked amongst her long hair, the mare paused at a spot of fresh grass. A little snack would do well, but it would also mean she was able to study others even while she ate. Lowering her head, she nipped at the sweet grasses, pausing now and then to steal a look around her. Who looked like good conversation and company? Anyone? Or dare she wait to see if any approached on their own?

The plains were indeed more crowded than normal Mikaru couldn't help but notice. More so than just a few days prior. But then again it was spring. Motherhood always came during this time for many mares. Some of which he considered friends. Given, he had never thought of having a family right now. He was more driven by flirtation and pleasing mares with his words. The saying: "actions speak louder than words" didn't really pass his mind, at least, not at this point. As it was Mikaru was content to keep his musings to himself and hopefully finish his studies. That way he could help please the mare he would end up mated to easier and better than a stallion who did not.
Speaking of which, he noticed a pretty mare off to his left off on a little hillside. Her coat contrasting brightly against the green and supple grass. To say that her looks didn't grasp his attention was an understatement. To be honest he had never seen her around before and this thought shocked him. He knew almost all the girls here who partook in living here. The fact that he didn't know much, anything really, about this mare had to change. She was just too pretty to be out here by herself.
Clamoring up onto his legs Mikaru ruffled his feathered wings to get them all back into place. Misguided feathers could rather hurt if in the wrong position for a time. With a swish of his tail the male made his way over to the female, thinking of some way to break the ice. She seemed to not notice him at first as she had her head dipped into the grass. He found it oddly cute too, once he came closer, that she had a golden tiara on her head. Oh yes, he was glad he had come to the plains this morning.
"Good morning sweets. How come a pretty mare like you is all by yourself in this morning sun? It almost seems like a crime."

Amarii had just lowered her head to take another mouthful of grass when her golden gaze landed upon an approaching figure. He was a dark sort of stormy grey, with a pale white mane and tail. But what stood out upon him were great red tipped wings. A . . . A wind! The crimson of his feathers matched his eyes, the effect somewhat startling.
Now here was a prince charming if she ever - - - -
And then he spoke. Her thoughts came to a screaming halt and she lifted her head to study him. While her gaze was curious, she did give the slightest frown. Sweets? SWEETS!?! Oh no . . .That wouldn't do at all!
"Excuse me? Did you really just call me sweets?" There was a mix of amusement and irritation all in one. Amarii knew she couldn't blame him if he was ignorant in how to treat a mare, but at the same time, such behavior was almost sickening. No respect at all! "I do have a name, and sweets is far from it." Giving a small flick of her tail, she added, "The real crime here is that a handsome fellow as you has such appalling behavior. I truly hope no mare has been caught swooning at your sad display of what I fear may be an attempt at charm." She wasn't angry, but she certainly was far from impressed.
This wasn't necessarily a bad thing though. If she were angry she'd be livid and snarling, her words coated in ice. Yes, for as lady-like as Amarii tried to be, she had her moments of rage and could have a terribly acidic tongue. Right now though, she truly was interested in seeing how this stranger would respond.
She was a princess after all, and even without her crown, no female should have to be subjected to such ridiculous pet names.

The poor stallion, well, he was thrown for quite the loop as the words fell from the pretty mares lips. All the mares Mikaru had ever met up to this point hadn't spoken against his small pet names for them. In fact, they had giggled in blushed. This mare standing in front of him gave him a round of horrible confusion now, which showed in his slightly pinned back ears and frown. Oh no, this wouldn't do. He had to try and rectify the situation however he could. This wasn't common territory and it bugged the hell out of him. But how, how could he fix this? It made no sense!
Mikaru's jumbled thoughts and lack of reply did little to appease the more frosty atmosphere surrounding them, no doubt from the way she gazed at him in disapproval. Wait...disapproval? Did she think she was higher than him? Oh no, hell no. He wasn't sexist in the slightest but he didn't appreciate the idea of any soquili thinking they were higher than him. Now THAT just would not do. The thought made him tense up more than he already way, his feathery red wings ruffling at his sides.
"My apologies, madam, for calling you a name that is apparently unfitting if your station," he replied just a tad sarcastically.
Well, Mikaru wasn't known for his tact when felt cornered. So his comment most likely wasn't the smartest thing he could have said. Oh well, time to face the music.

Amarii saw his ears pin back, and his feathers ruffle in what she assumed was a mix of surprise and frustration. Obviously he hadn't expected her to respond to him in such a manner, which only made her even more pleased that she had.
To be fair, it wasn't entirely Mikaru's attitude or his pet name for her. It was the fact that he reminded her of a slime ball -- a scuzzy individual who looked at mares only as something pretty, some sort of object, or a prize to be won. Many a stallion was out there looking for some fool to woo and eventually take on as a mate, but Amarii was no fool. No. She remembered far too vividly her father and his adoration for her mother. From what she recalled, he had lasted long enough to confirm the foals were indeed his before booking it out and abandoning Ravii.
Amarii had been old enough to understand her mother's heart ache. Eros had been around long enough for the white, pink and red foal to understand that he had been her father; and she too had been affected when he had walked out only to ne'er return. Her mother had cried in secret, having tried to stifle her grief away from her foals. Ravii gave everything to make sure Amarii and her sister had been loved and lacked in nothing, but the golden eyed filly had never forgotten her father.
Oh no. She hated him. He'd been nothing but a manipulative and callous rake. . . and this stallion before her reminded her of him. Perhaps it was unfair to make such a broad assumption, but Amarii had grown up with an understanding that males, especially the charmers, were often sugar coating a bed of lies. And she would never let herself get fooled as her mother had. . . nor let any sort of stallion get away with his mischief!
Mikaru's sarcasm wasn't lost on the mare. "You needn't act so offended," she stated curtly, giving her tail a small flick. "It was you, sir, who approached and labeled me first. But if you do want to know, I don't think sweets is befitting my station, or any mare for that matter. You might be surprised to know that we actually do have names. Unless you'd just as rather prefer me to call you Rake." She gave a small snort, her golden eyes focused only on him.
She doubted he'd respond well to her words, but also had no issue with just turning tail and leaving. Amarii was a princess, after all, and he was far from some gallant knight.

That had done it; Mikaru gritted his teeth together almost in a snarl and narrowed his eyes to glare at the mare in front of him. She had a lot of nerve calling him by THAT type of name. Mind reeling, he kept trying to figure out how to retort. She was gutsy, he liked that too which pissed him off even more. Never before had a mare gotten to him so badly. And his actions showed thus. Those actions also proved to piss him off further. With a grunt all he offered her was a biting remark back:
"And your actions speak little of a mature individual. So for now I'll call you holier than thou mare who thrives on petty comments on stature and maturity when she herself is just like her comments towards others."
There, he wouldn't let her upstage him. He could be just as terrible as she was. Granted, he was also being a hypocrite at this point but by damn he didn't care anymore. He'd stoop down to her level any day if it meant getting his own point across. Now would it work that was up for debate but honestly he really could care less at this point.

Amarii could see that the stallion was not at all pleased. Both figuratively and literally, she had ruffled his feathers, and the anger and irritation that rode over him were clear. If she felt any guilt about her scathing words, she felt none - he wasn't deserving of such feeling.
Granted, she was quick to judge, and had her own issues to deal with, but that was something to think about at a later date. Right now, all she could see was some stallion who categorized all mares in to the category of 'sweets'. She was not sweet. He was not some knight in shining armor come down to rescue her. He was an ignorant male with no amount of honor or chivalry, and she couldn't stand those sorts. . . .
He was too much like Eros.
As he claimed her immature, she couldn't help but laugh. "You seek to wound, and yet, you are armored with nothing more than ignorance and foolishness. You know nothing about me, or any of these sweets you have likely met in the past. Keep that in mind next time you approach a female, sir," she stated, her golden eyes livid.
"And while I don't know anything about you, there is one thing you flaunt clear as day - you are no gentleman. Chivalry, honor, respect for others is something clearly deficient in your nature. Now, if you excuse me, I find there is nothing more I need say. Good day!" It was a stiff reply, her words laced with anger and even a bit of sarcasm. Still . . . .she would at least end the conversation with those polite words, and not give him time to bark back a response.
Giving a curt dip of her head, Amarii turned tail and trotted away. She had nothing more to say to the stallion, and didn't wish to stick around and hear him. Her views on him were set. Granted, she herself had likely acted far too defensively, even a bit rash, but she had her reasons. . . not that he cared to know or understand. No, this stranger wasn't worth her time. . . . He was just like every other stallion in the Kawani - brash, ridiculous, self-serving, and honorless.
