((Private RP between Dustfeather and myself, with Hestia and Kavuasi. <3 Please don't post unless we ask you to.))
The jungle did not suit Kavu well.
His thin skin, built for keeping cool in the desert sun, was an easy target for the mosquitos that flitted about between the foliage. His fur made him stick out like a sore thumb - bright red coloring in a green environment? Pfft. He could have painted himself rainbow colors and it wouldn't have been any worse than it was now. At least it was cool, but even that wasn't very helpful. During the cold nights, he had to bury himself underneath layers of leaves to keep the chill out of his bones.
Who's dumb idea had it been to come here, anyways?.... Oh, that's right. It didn't matter, because he didn't have a choice. He was being dragged around. He couldn't complain about being brought there.
He could, however, complain about everything else, and decided to do so with gusto.
"My neck itches." He grumbled, pacing around a tall water oak beside the stream that flowed through the jungle. "And my tail itches, and there's dirt stuck in my ear."

Hestia was agitated. Things just weren't working out well, in general terms. She had not heard from nor seen any of the thrice-cursed Firekin gods...it was as if they had dropped off the face of the earth altogether.
"So complaining are we, my young prince," the sparrowhawk says, mockingly, descending suddenly from the thick treetops above where she had been concealed. "I apologize that your surroundings are not good enough for you, your royal highness." The words are said in a jeering, sardonic fashion, with no attempt at courtesy. "Save up your strength, boy, you'll need it for later. Or are you ready to begin now, kitten?" It feels like rain soon...it'd be helpful to have a seer with her, she thinks sourly. But that'd also be dangerous...and none of Kinja's cubs had shown the ability so far.

Hmph. The nerve of this lesser creature! Thinking that, just because she was a goddess, she ruled over royalty! Scowling at Hestia, Kavu let his rump hit the ground, his tail curling around his paws.
"I'm not a..." He started, then let his ears flick back, lowering his head. Even though he was a prince, he didn't have powers like Hestia did, so smarting off to her probably wasn't the best idea.
"....nevermind. Let's start. S'not like I could rest in this dump, anyways." He answered, following it up with a sneer. "Nasty place, this. Why didn't we stay in the desert? I could've trained there just as well."

"Smart boy, but I always said you were the quickest on the uptake of your siblings. Not that that signifies much," she adds darkly.
The sparrowhawk studies the other for awhile. Like father, like son? Like grandfather, like grandson? Or the worst: like mother, like son? If Kavuasi is more like Kinja, she won't be able to trust him. Kinja broke her vow. She wonders if she should reveal her...but not yet. She's going to wait until a more opportune moment.
"Several things first. Listen carefully, young princeling. You are no longer a princeling...and no longer a Firekn. You will remember your past, but you will listen to me. For one thing..." she pauses, not entirely for effect. "It will be of considerable benefit to you in the long run. For another, had you stayed there, you would've been nothing: a lesser son, unwanted by your siblings, particularly your brother. You would've been competition, and competiion has a way of disappearing quickly, especially with the rather bloodthirsty streak that runs in your father's blood. And for the last..." Here, had the bird grinned, she would have. "Don't you want some power, Kavuasi?"

"Yeah, I want power." Kavu responded quickly, ears perking. The thought of abandoning his pride and his heritage had stung him - however, if Hestia was right, and leaving them behind would make him stronger, it would be worth it. Thoughts of grandeur raced through his mind, and he had to shake his head to snap himself out of the onslaught of daydreams that were flooding into him. Let his brother have the stuffy old kingship! He would have power granted to him by a goddess!
"So, we gonna sit here all day, chatting about things past, or get on with it?" He asked irritably, lifting one hind paw to swat at a particularly annoying insect that had landed on his ear. He was eager to gain the power she was tempting him with, and even more eager to escape from this infernal hell-hole she called a jungle.

"The past is important," Hestia says, fluffing her wings. "It helps us decide on the future. Knowledge is power. You'd be amazed how many lives can be destroyed by one single little lie." Like your mother's. "Or created by stretching the truth, or warping it to your own needs. Once you learn how to do that, you'll be well off in life." This is going to be harder than she thought. He's so young...and her own chicks had all flown the next centuries and centuries ago.
"Once I feel I can trust you.." here, she smiles sardonically. "We can move on to somewhere else, if you wish to. The jungle doesn't have a pride of lions at the moment, so I feel this is probably the safest place for us to be. Unless you think the Pridelanders are going to welcome you with open paws.
Now...what do you know? About your pride, your past, your siblings? And gods?"

A grumpy look crossed Kavu's face, but was replaced by one of thoughtfulness as he dug around for answers to Hestia's question.
"I know that we...." He paused, then frowned, remembering that he was not to be called Firekin anymore. "...that the Firekin are proud warriors, and that they're much stronger than any of the other prides. They've gotta be, 'cause they live in a land that's harder to survive in. My brother and sisters have the blood of kings in them, like... like I used to." Another pause.
"....My past is pretty simple. I was born, raised, taught to fight back when pushed around. As for the gods, up until you came, I only knew there was one. Finar-si, Goddess of Change, and of the Firekin."
