 Welcome! To CHARMS!

At hogwarts: Charms is the class that teaches how to develop incantations for the uses of bewitchment. Rowling has described Charms as a type of magic spell concerned with giving an object new and unexpected properties. Charms classes are described as notoriously noisy and chaotic, as the lessons are largely practical. Many of the exposition sequences in the books are set in Charms classes, which are on the second floor of Hogwarts. Taught by Professor Flitwick.
The teacher in here, however, shall be none other than Cerise Aimee Benoit
Please do show her respect, for she is, of course, your teacher.***DO NOT EDIT THIS FIRST POST IN ANY WAY!***

As it seems to be the norm here, I will provide you with a small biography of myself. No, you will not be able to bother me with any questions, for that would be a waste of class time, and every minute wasted, I will received thirty in return worth of detention. My name is Ms. Cerise Aimee Benoit. You shall call me Ms. Benoit. That is, ben-nwa; misspell or mispronounce it and I will assume you are referring to someone else. Therefore that someone else will answer your question. Hypothetically. I was schooled at the Academy of Magic of Beauxbâtons….and am also employed at the Daily Prophet, in their fashion section. The main thing to know is I will demand and enforce manners of those who are lacking within my sight. I am not here to be your friend. I am here to attempt to turn you into proper witches and wizards. May my attempt be valiant.

Charms has been mischaracterized as an easy class, a soft subject. Be warned now, this class will not be. I expect nothing below perfection from you and those who do not achieve it will receive detention in order to practice more. Charms is a rare gift, one that does not easily achieve. Through strong effort will you pass my class, and it will take daily practice to ace it. Each spell will be broken down into their necessary parts for easier learning. These will be pronunciation, where we will discuss the meaning behind the words of the spell, wand movements, and concentration. We will also discuss instances the spell could have been used in the past as well as the present.

 1) There will be silence while I am teaching. Any comments will be made after you are called upon for raising your hand. 2) Attendance will be required in my class. Each class will last one work week long (Monday through Friday.) I expect work to be done by then. However, I will allow the weekend to be used to make up work. If you fail to complete the work by the next Monday, you will lose points until you do. 3)Follow Gaia’s Terms of Service as well as the rules set down by the Headmistress. 4) There will be no swearing in my class. You are old enough to speak properly. 5) You will not be using your wand until I have given you permission to use it for a particular spell. 6) You will remain respectful to all of your fellow classmates. I do not care whether you are better than them or not, you shall be courteous. 7) You must be eleven to enter Hogwarts, therefore I'm sure I can expect proper writing from you. All written work (and posts) are expected to be written with proper grammar and spelling, you may use a spell check quill if you must. cool Occasionally I will simply assign homework as to practice the spell of the day. When I do so, I expect to be able to find the scene you practiced the spell. I will know if you do not.

As stated above, you will come to class once a week. If you are unable to come during the work week, I will permit you to make up the work on the following weekend. If you fail to do so, you will lose 5 points. Four of those can be returned, if you perform the lesson the following weekend. Then three the weekend after that, decreasing until you will not be able to receive points. Still, you are required to make up the work.

Introductory Lesson Charm: is a type of enchantment that causes an object to behave in a way that is not otherwise normal for that object Bewitched: A charm that lasts over time Necessities in a Spell: wand movement, concentration pronunciation Lesson 1 First Years: Hover Charm Windgardium Leviosa: Hover Charm Pronunciation: win-GAR-dee-um lev-ee-OH-sa - Etymology: ‘wing’ as in a bird’s wing. ‘arduus’ as in heights; ‘levis’ light (not heavy) Description: Levitates objects. Wand Movement: swish and flick Think about history of this spell. When could it have been used? For what purpose? Third and Fourth Years: Point Me Charm Point Me: The Four Point Spell Pronunciation: Point Me ((English)) Description: Causes the caster's wand to act as a compass, and point North. Wand Movement: Lay wand on flat, upright palm. History: Variations of the spell were used in place of Lodestones, by early Chinese fortune tellers during the Qin Dynasty (221-206 B.C.) Expanded to be used by wizards throughout the world after they used the spell on ships. Sometimes supposed this version of the spell was invented by Hermione Granger, however it is unlikely due to her vocal dislike of non-Ministry approved spells later on in her schooling. Task: Find SW Questions & Answers: Caiden: Why the Qin Dynasty in China needed a spell like this? Were they intent on expanding then? And, if I may ask, did the general population know about wizards then? Professor Benoit: “As some of you may know, the Qin Dynasty was the first ruling dynasty of Imperial China. It was known for its military strength, as well as unifying China. It conquered a great deal as this picture shows,” she offered the page of the book she picked up. Continuing with his second question, she had to ponder a moment, “Now, I’m not a history teacher, but I believe that magic was viewed differently at that time. People believed in it more readily, but they kept separate from it. So though they believed wizards and witches, or at that time fortune tellers and the sort, existed they did not associate with them outside of fairs and the like. Or realize at least, that they were associating with them. Muggles of the time used lodestones, a mineral composed of an iron oxide which aligns itself in a north-south direction. It in fact wasn’t until the 8th century AD that magnetized needles were used, like those today.” Caiden: "So back then, they let wizards live their own separate lives? Were they afraid of the wizarding power then?" Magic was feared by some, but others still believed in it enough for it to be acceptable in other cultures. While in ancient times many used or even worshiped magic, fear and respect kept the Muggles of the time away from the witches and wizards.
