So the reason for this post. im gonna share the uber cuteness of baby rats with y'all. Dont worry, no videos of the birth, just pictures as I can get them. Feel free to make comments or ask any question about her the babies or rats in general. Momma MissyBoo, getting rounder at her 2 week mark Daddy Snoogens, so you can see the parents.

Awww~! How adorable!! I cannot wait!
I have 3 rats of my own, currently. Two males, Knickolai and Knoob, and one female, Knova (kept separately). I'm afraid that I'm too much of a worry-wart to even think about breeding them, it's too late for Knova from what I've read online. Still, I'm really excited to see the pictures.~

I look forward to seeing them as well. I don't think I've ever seen a newborn rat.

Well for now she's in her cage with her cage mate Zoia. Next week, probably around wednesday we'll put her in the cage we nicknamed the maternity cage. It's a tank so she cant climb and possibly hurt herself and possibly the babies so close to birthing.

I'm curious, are you not going to take a video of the birth or are you just not going to post one?

Missy boo literally looks like she swallowed a golfball, specially when she waddles around! She's officially at 21 days from when we let her and daddy share a cage. So she's due any time/day!! We went ahead and put her in the maternity cage and good timing since we woke up this morning to a giant next in one corner!
Saber Pendragon I'm curious, are you not going to take a video of the birth or are you just not going to post one?
If we are home when she gives birth ill try to get a video or two. But we're going to try not to stress her out too much by being around alot, so we'll probably just check on her, depending on when she goes into labor and how stressed she acts.

Well great news everyone! I came home today all alone, tired and ready to nap. So im putting my stuff on the bed and half pulled of my jacket when I hear the weirdest squeaking sounds....
MISSY BOO HAD HER BABIES!!!
So I totally missed her giving the birth, but I got to see the little pink balls of joy! From what I could count, (mama started moving as soon as I pulled the blanket covering the cage back). She had 11(the normal litter size is 12) She loks ok, im going to give her some time to feed the babies and when i go to fix her food bowl(it was overturned) ill clean some of the dirty bedding and try to get a good look at them. I got a few not so great(and kinda bloody) shots of the babies, but ill try to get fiance to take a shot or two when I do.
So hopefully pictures tonight!

So im waaaay overdue for the pictures I promised y'all. I blame work sweatdrop Everyones doing well! Apparently she was hiding a baby because when we went to check on everyone and do a headcount she had 12 squirming ratlings in a little nest. At about 3 days only their skin started darkening in places, it's their markings! So as you'll see, it looks like all are going to be black hooded(solid black from nose to shoulders, then a spine stripe down to their tail) Anyway, to the pics! Day they were born 1 days old About 3 days old Group shots!! They should be growing their fur within the next 3-7 days smile

I guess I've never seen them that young. I expected that their eyes wouldn't have opened yet, but it looks like they haven't even developed? Is that the case, and is that how it usually works? Wow, there are so many from just one pregnancy. Now I see how rat infestations happen so quickly. Are you keeping them all, or are you selling/giving any away?

Matasoga I guess I've never seen them that young. When they are first born their eyes are sealed shut, toes fused together and when JUST born their tails are stuck to their body(kinda like a butterfly's wings). At about 2 weeks their eyes will open and about 7-10 days their baby fur will grow in. I say baby fur because supposedly some will lose that and grow their adult coat. Like I posted earlier 12 is a normal size litter, but they get as small as 6 and as big as 20! We have adopters for almost all of them. If they decided for 1 or 2 more the better, though i wanna keep 1 or 2 >.<

They can have litters as big as 20? That's a lot of babies. I've never seen newborn rats before. If I had been shown that second picture without being told what it was I don't think I would have said it's a rat.
