Every time she left she went a little further, but she was afraid to leave for too long. What if things had changed while she was gone? What if he had changed? What if she returned too late and couldn't find him? All these little anxieties kept her closer to home than perhaps she should be. So she set dates, and she kept to them - but every time she left she went a little further. This time she had ventured into the salt marshes, next time - perhaps next time she would make it to the sea. She had heard tales of it, and she thought, perhaps she could bring back a gull feather if she could find one, as a gift. But this time, she had set only ten days, only into the salt marshes, and so she was back, waiting nervously by the old mangrove they had agreed upon, for her brother to appear.

Of course things would change. That was how the world worked, it was inevitable. He would change. He always did in some way. But he would never change too much for her. He would always be there waiting for her, and he would never let her down.
He did wish she wouldn't wander so much, it worried him. When she was gone for days on days, he missed her and wished that she would stop and would remain by his side. But he knew that was her nature, and he knew he could never ask her to change. So quickly he hurried to the mangrove, aware that he was late. He hoped she wouldn't be upset. He was late, but he was coming. He would be there, as always.

The shadows had lengthened across the swamp, and the dark tendrils of worry were starting to creep into her heart. What if - the biggest what-if of all, that she feared to even let her mind brush against at the very worst of times - something had happened -
"That's ridiculous," she muttered sharply, stabbing a vicious hoof into the damp soil - Light was the most resourceful of kimeti (at least, in her admittedly biased perspective she would always consider so), nothing untoward could possibly have occurred, not to him, "he's probably just running a little late. He'll be here in no time, and it'll be like nothing has happened. I can pretend to be angry, and he will smile." So she decided, and ceased the quiet self-talk that she had unconsciously grown used to on her lonely travels.
Still, she could not stop the anxious little pangs, that grew urgent with every passing second - until, ah, a shadow in the distance, moving closer...was it? She was never wrong on this.

He hurried faster, rushing to get to her side as soon as he could. He had completely miscalculated how long it would take him to get to the grove. He had expected to be there, awaiting her, not the other way around. Silently he berated himself. This most certainly would never happen again. He hated how long she was gone, how could he add even a moment to that? Careless, careless.
But ah! There she was. A grin broke out across his lips and he raced the final distance to her. "Light, oh Light! Am I ever glad to see you!" He stopped just a short distance away, taking a moment to take her in. Had she changed? Did she look any different? "I know I'm late. I'm so sorry. How are you? How was your trip? Did you see anything exciting?"

"You're only a little late," she said, eyes brightening, stepping into a little hop - just a little - like a filly again, "I've barely waited, it's alright." She had completely forgotten to pretend to be angry.
"I went quite far into the salt marshes this time," she continued, moving up beside him so they could talk and walk - she had waited quite long after all (even if she had completely forgotten that), and other unconscious but far more practical parts of her body were motivating her towards the nearest berry patch, "they're beautiful at night - you can see all the stars! I wish I could show you."

When she stepped up beside him, he brushed up against her affectionately, just as he always did. Light was more than just his sister, his twin. She was a part of him, and he always missed her when she was gone.
"All the way to the salt marshes, hm?" He smiles at her, contradicting the worry in his eyes. He often wished she didn't have such a wandering soul. He was worried that one day she'd wander off and wouldn't find her way back to him. He didn't know what he would do if that were to happen. "Perhaps someday you can show me."

Her whole face lit up at the thought. "Perhaps I could!" she smiled, "just the edge of them - that might not be too far away. Some paths are easier, I'll find the easiest. They really are beautiful, the stars, you would love them."
Walking and talking thus, the berry patch beckoned quite quickly. "Oh!" her eyes took in the dark, ripe clusters with pleasure, "they've grown since the last I was here."Kaitaia Aaaah I missed this out when I was gathering up my RP links after my hiatus! QAQ!!! I'm so sorry, Kait!
