Noel wasn't entirely sure where she was. The last thing she remembered was the Wayfarer's Inn and the smell of Sati's soup. She didn't know if she'd fallen asleep, but it was the only answer that made any sense. Especially since her dreams of late had been so odd. She hadn't seen the woman with the wings in her hair, her dreams instead had been filled with darkness and shouting.

But now she found herself standing on a street busy with people who had all sorts of odd appearances. It wasn't a street she'd ever seen before, even in her dreams. Noel stood for a minute or two peering around curiously before she felt warmth in her hand. The chess piece was clutched tightly in her fist and she hadn't even noticed. "I guess I'm supposed to do something with you, then." She said to the little castle. "I don't suppose you know what it is, though."

The little girl turned in a circle, peering at the people and the buildings, wondering if there was something important here. When she faced the building she had been standing directly in front of the little chess piece let off a sudden flare of heat before returning to normal again. "Alright then." The little girl said, squaring her shoulders and peering up at the sign on the storefront. "Coffee? Really?" Shaking her head, Noel pushed open the door to the coffee shop and stepped inside.

A stream of cool air rustled the papers Zora was playing with as the door to the coffee shop opened. The small girl, seated at a nearby table, looked up to see a girl about her age enter the shop. At first Zora dismissed the other toddler and went back to trying to get the sheets of paper to fold right. Something in the back of her mind though nagged at the blonde to turn around and notice the other child again.

The white haired girl had no adult with her which was strange because kids never had money to buy things with and that was why you came here. Zora's violet eyes locked onto the strange girl and stared suspicious at her for a moment before she relaxed as the smell of peppermint and the taste of magic wafted off the girl. This one was okay then, perhaps even a new friend? Regardless of just what it was Zora felt something in regard to the white haired girl, she just needed to sort it out.

With the adult customers and staff inside the warm, coffee scented shop paying them no mind and Rook busy behind the counter Zora was free to try and make friends. " Hey, are you lost?" she asked while waving a hand to get attention. If she could get the nice smelling girl to come closer maybe she could figure out why she was extra interested in her.

The air around the blond girl crackled in a way Noel had only experienced in real life, and then only around Moth. Not even Jack or Sati or Orion made the air hum this way. Strangely reflective silver eyes widened a tiny bit as Noel approached the other girl, spinning the white rook nervously in her hand.

"...I think I might be." She answered after a moment's consideration. "Because I think I'm really actually here. Am I here? Or are you part of the dream? And if I am here, where is here? And who are you?"

None of it made sense yet. But the familiar charge in the air made Noel comfortable. Moth was the smartest and most powerful person Noel knew, so if this girl felt kind of like Moth then she could surely help somehow.

"I think this brought me here." She added, holding out her hand to show Zora the chess piece.

Zora stared down at the chess piece and then lifted her head to eye the other girl warily. That had brought her here? It too emanated magic though a different sort than the lost silver eyed girl. It was confusing for Zora but not too distressing. " You're definitely here for real" she assured the other girl with a small smile. " I'm Zora and this is a shop in a place called Gaia."

Gaia which was now her home but hadn't always been. Zora's memories were gone and dreams were hazy and vague but in them she felt called to a place that was not this one. For now though Gaia felt right and Rook even moreso so Zora stayed and waited for signs.

"Sit with me and I can help you" The young girl insisted. "I know what that is" it was a rook like her guardian and magic like her guardian. This Zora knew was important although why she wasn't sure. She was also not touching the object the other girl held if she could avoid it enough. Sign or not something in her was adverse to taking things from strangers.

Giving things on the other hand, she could do that , in fact Zora felt compelled to change the magic around her companion. Maybe if she could get the other to sit with her for awhile she could give her one of the folded paper things she was making. While she couldn't be absolutely sure something told the small child that that was a better idea than just asking Rook to stop working and come touch the strange chess piece.

"Gaia?" Noel asked with a little frown. "My friends go to Gaia to get supplies for the tavern. I think we maybe live in Gaia but it's hard to tell sometimes..." She grinned at Zora. "I've never been anywhere like this except in my dreams."

Sliding into the proferred seat she ran her thumb idly over the chess piece. "Could you tell me what you know about it?" She asked, a little frown creasing her brow. "It was given to me by... by someone. With a message. 'The Queen needs her Castle'. But I don't know what that means yet." Her brow furrowed even deeper. "I know theres a key I'm supposed to find. And a lady in a box that I have to help. And everyone keeps looking at me sideways like they want to ask me about it but are afraid to get involved, so nobody really tells me anything." She gave Zora a pleading look. "I could sure use some help. Any help."

No one had ever asked Zora for help before so the request was a little odd for the child. At the same time she felt compelled to help , it was not quite the same gut feeling that made her make things and foist said creations off on others but it was similar. Although she didn't know any queens or anything about people in boxes that needed keys,.

The violet eyed girl tried to think of what she could say, all the while her fingers folding paper into an approximation of a star. " Queens are the most important pieces and Rooks protect them," she began. " Rooks are strong but they can't move in lots of ways and ..." Zora trailed off. She was trying to remember what she knew of the interactions of the pieces. "Rooks was called castles so maybe um she needs protecting?"

Who was this queen, and why did she need a Rook, more importantly was it Zora's Rook or another and she was just explaining things. Frowning Zora shoved the small folded paper star she'd been working on at Noel. doing so eased the tension building in her but not by a lot. This was a weird situation and as precocious as Zora might be it was also something that required more analyzing than she was good for right now.

Noel set the chess piece down in the middle of the table and picked up the paper star, cupping it in her palms and frowning down at it thoughtfully.

"If the lady in the box is the queen... And I bet she is... then you're probably right and she needs protecting. Or rescuing. I think thats what she wants me to do, find a way to rescue her." Noel shook her head, making her small silver pigtails bounce. "This is hard." She added with a sigh. The puzzle seemed almost too much for her to face. "I like your star" She added with a smile, caressing the points with her thumbs. "It's pretty."

" You should wish on it" Zora suggested " to help you." The violet eyed girl wasn't sure that would help the magic inside come out any faster but it was worth suggesting. "Everyone says stars are for wishes," she added, not wanting to take credit for anything that happened, after all she didn't think everyone was supposed to know about how or why she gave things, Even she wasn't a hundred percent sure on how it all worked all the time. As a child it was simply easier for Zora to take some things on faith.
