THE LIGHTHOUSE For so long the lighthouse had been tauntingly in view, yet never closer. Or at least, close enough. But at you crest a particularly steep hill, the lighthouse appears clearly before. It's almost a relief, finally a solid touchstone for your journey thus far and...wait...if there somebody standing at the railing high above you...who could... He stares down at you in silence. If you go in, will there be another fight? Or...something unexpected, something worse. Considering the past day or two...probably the latter. The OOC Your student has finally reached the path's destination, it's up to you whether or not they take part in the next stage. But not going through it will affect their ability to participate in the final chapters of Part 1. Play Rules and Info: Think of this as a bit of a cyoa game ~ - please state your student's HP when you enter - there are 3 stages (+ entrance) - each full stage will give you a choice and 12 hours for you character to make that choice - unfortunate choices or not posting will lead to the loss of HP - you only need to post once, with your student ICly making their choice IN BOLD.- but please don't feel you have to stop there, and continue to rp using the area descriptions provided! - you can break off into PRPs within this area as well, but please include "LIGHTHOUSE" in the title - at the end of each stage, the results of your choices will be revealed and your student will be able to move on

Stage 2 results Running up, down, or just floating about in the air, this situation was the definition of futility lightened only by the curiosity and investigation attempts of the group. As with the fog, time seemed to be moving a bit differently within the tower. It may have been hours, or perhaps only a few minutes since they entered, but eventually a clear crisp voice asked, "Do you still refuse to kneel?" And suddenly those floating in the air found themselves flying, up-up-up and straight into a hard surface. The ceiling? Those running up the stairs were abruptly stumbling over the top step (and each other) just in time to see gravity once more come into effect. It seems falling was a pretty common ailment here, and considering how high up they were now, this was a fairly unfortunate trend. - stairs: the pile up at the top caused a number of sore and bruised limbs costing 1 hp - float: hitting the ceiling and then the floor? Had to hurt, and it cost you 3 hp - no choice -4 hp Stage 3 start The hooded figure before you looks distinctly unapologetic. "Both determined and relatively in one piece. The team work makes an excellent bonus as well. Congratulations, I can make use of you." Stage 1 results Well you've managed to make it into the lighthouse. those who went through the basement had to use a bit of elbow grease and try not breath too deeply, but eventually managed to make it up to the main floor. Just in time to see the students in the attic fall through the floor, right onto the people already there. But never let it be said that good can't come of tragedy, as a wall suddenly began turning, revealing the inside of the tower beyond it. Apparently the clatter and commotion triggered the mechanism of a hidden door. A piece of paper drops down.- the attic: the fall was pretty jarring, but fortunately, you fell on something comfortable (-1hp) - the window: that had to hurt (-2 hp) - the basement: your effort paid off in no damage and a memorable visual - did not choose: -3hp Stage 2 As you enter, you look up to see the cloaked figure from before, silently looking down on you from the top of the stairs. It's GO TIME. Except...as you run, walk or skip up- those stairs....you seem to be getting no closer...you look down and...you don't see the bottom. After awhile you notice one of your companions climbing the stairs...right beneath you in a way that should not be possible without magic or gravity abilities. Or are they? Suddenly you look back up to find the top of the building is missing as well, the stairs just go on forever in either direction, and your not so sure which way is up or down anymore. Looking out the windows just shows you grey upon grey, and proves no help at all. Your Choices You choose to continue climbing, this...whatever it is has to give out at some point... right?!You jump off. And find yourself floating the air. Stage 1 Upon inspecting the outside of the lighthouse, it becomes apparent that the only way into the tower, is through the small keepers house at the bottom. If only it's door was open. Or at least weak enough to give into persistent battering. As the door stands firm, it appears you'll have to take matters into your own hands. Your ChoicesEnter from above A ladder leans against the side of the house, too small to reach the rails and windows of the lighthouse but perfect for reaching the open attic window above you. The attic itself is a kingdom of dust, boxes, and rotten wood. There's no visible door to the lower level, so it looks like you have some cleaning to do. Enter from below On the ground beside the house, you notice a set of heavy storm doors with a (happily) broken lock. Was your luck finally in? As you step down the basement stairs, the first thing that hits you is the smell of rotten food, the second thing? Quiet, persistent white noise. Something that looks similar to an old skelevisionbut not quiet. There's something cold and just plain unmagical about the device. Not to mention the reception was obviously crap. The small room is less of a regular storage area and more of a shelter of sorts. It has a small bed (stripped to its springs,) piles of canned goods (all expired,) and jugs of water (long since leaked out.) Unfortunately this isn't really your lucky day, because while there's a ladder leading up to the upper floor of the house? The wheel to open the door is rusted and stiff. Gonna take some work to get that thing open. Enter from window. You don't want to bother with above or below, you've decide to make your own door! Right through the kitchen window, and nevermind the glass. The interior of the house has seen better days. What's not covered in mold and mildew is faded beyond all hope. A few broken pieces of furniture are here and there, mostly in the corners. The kitchen seems to be lacking something, though, and looking at the front of the house, you discover the reason for the firmly closed door: someone had hauled the refrigerator in front of it. Checking inside of it, you find no useful health items and a single sheet of paper. Previously: Stage You have reached the lighthouse. Choices:The lighthouse towers before you, but a dangerous figure looks on from above. As you look about, you notice a piece of paper caught in a bush.

Determined to reach the lighthouse, Jericho kept walking on with Riley in his arms, not stopping until the doors to the building were within his line of sight. It was a relief, but he couldn't help but wonder if this was all false hope he was feeling. What if continuing only made things worse? It wasn't as if they had great choices here. The lack of voices whispering to him was a good sign too.
Before proceeding on, he looked up to see a familiar cloaked figure looming over them from a balcony above. The dragon narrowed his eyes at the sight of the reaper, unsure what he was going to do. He wasn't sensing any hostile intentions from this one, but he didn't doubt that the cloaked figure had something in mind for them all.
"Maybe we'll finally be able to get some revenge here," he rumbled lowly before walking closer to the lighthouse, taking note of the slip of paper stuck in the nearby bush. He would have taken it, but his hands were currently full.

Malodore had walked towards the lighthouse somewhat gingerly - honestly, it half expected the ground under its feet to crumble away any minute now. After all they'd been through, it seemed too good to be true... and yet it seemed it was. The fog seemed to be gone, and with that true clarity returned to the plague doctor's mind. It shuddered at the realization of just how far gone it had been... and tried to ignore the fact that it could still hear voices hissing at it from the fog, though the exact words they uttered were no longer distinguishable.
It plucked the note free from the bush and read it quickly, then frowned. "This note appears to have been written by someone from Halloween Town, given the mention of October... this means we are hardly the first natives of Halloween to come here." Which begged the question - if people knew this place made you crazy, why schedule a Jack-damned field trip here?!
Unless nobody had ever come back to tell them about the crazy. Which only made it more stupid.
"The note seems to accurately describe the mental effects we suffered," the plague doctor continued. "Though there's not much else, unfortunately."
Only then did it notice the robed figure watching them all; it sidled over to Jericho. "Um. Do you see someone up there?" It indicated the figure with a jerk of its beak.

Peeking over Mal's shoulder to try and get a look at the note, Jericho frowned at its contents. If that wasn't foreboding, he wasn't sure what was. Thinking that some, he recalled the notes found earlier on mentioning the disappearances of the staff.
"There were other notes earlier.. But who could have beaten us to the island? I'd think that we'd hear something about it before," he frowned, "Or maybe the staff got ahead of us somehow?"
Looking back up at the cloaked figure that watched them, the dragon nodded slowly.
"I do. It's the cloaked guy that attacked Riley earlier. I don't think he'll attack us... yet."

(( HP: 14 Sheridan approaches the lighthouse ))
Sheridan took a deep breath, an all too brief moment of relief. The air was clearer here, the fog thinner, a hope returning that he would again see the stars. The lighthouse, it was really here, they had made it, they could finally end all of this.
It was a fleeting feeling, his heart sinking again as his gaze drifted up the lighthouse to settle on the cloaked figure. It gave him an eerie feeling, a sense of danger and foreboding. Why was it watching them, what was it planning? He didn't like it, he didn't like it at all.
But they had come too far to turn back now. It was either take the risk and step into the lighthouse, or turn around and go back into the fog, to surrender to the madness that would no doubt devour them all. No, that was not an option. They had only one clue, they had to follow it.
Shifting Charlie on his back (why did he weigh so much?!), Sheridan stepped forward, walking toward the lighthouse. This was it, there was no turning back now.

... to have been written ..
... begged the question ...
... beaten us to ...
The voices had been fading in and out for a few minutes now. Riley's subconscious was wary to allow her to return, so it tested the waters every so often, licking at the conscious world until it felt safe enough to pull away the curtain of sleep that held her captive. Her eyes slit open, blinking a few times as she tried to see. Everything was blurry, unsteady, shaking - she closed her eyes again and pressed her eyelids together hard, before trying to look once more.
The first thing she saw was the sleeve of Jericho's jacket. It brushed against her cheek, and she stared at the fibers of it's fabric. Her eyes refocused on things farther ahead, and she could see the red of Malodore's outfit as it walked up to a giant, looming darkness. She could tell that she was being carried, and Jericho was approaching the lighthouse with her in his arms.
Mmmm.. She groaned, already unhappy with whatever was happening. She struggled weakly to try and gain her bearings, nearly pushing herself out of Jericho's arms as she did so. The black looming presence that crept closer suddenly sharpened into the shape of a lighthouse, and her eyes widened as realization dawned upon her.
We made it? She whispered quietly. It was a victory, and it brought her the strength she needed to fully awaken. Unfortunately, will full conscious came full awareness of her surroundings - and her eyes focused firmly on the cloaked presence at the railing of the lighthouse. She felt her breathing stop as she recognized him.
He did promise he'd return to finish the job, didn't he?

"Good," Malodore said, relieved, then turned sharply at the mental whisper in its mind. "Riley! We're here, look, mia cara. You were right the whole time." It wrapped its arms around her tightly.
"Grazie, molto grazie," it said to Jericho.

Feeling movement in his arms, Jericho glanced down to see Riley awakening. He didn't put her down until he was sure she was fully conscious once again. Before he did so, he noticed her tensing up for some reason. From where her eyes seemed to be looking he could only guess the reason was due to seeing the cloaked one.
"Don't worry about him. We'll deal with him later," he mumbled. Turning around, he saw Sheridan approaching as well. Nodding to the other dragon, he soon looked back to Malodore...who he could only assume said something along the lines of 'thank you'.
Not sure how far behind the rest of their group was, he began to wave around his firey sword again, hoping to catch their attention.

((ooc: Using phone to post will definitely be slow, but will try to post as often as I can. Tro HP: 20))
The horse boil wasn't sure how long or how far he'd walked. All he knew was that the visions had stopped, no more shadows trying to tame him, no more fellow students mangled beyond recognition. The voices ceased their mocking, down to just an unintelligible rasp that he could easily ignore. Relief swelled in his chest as he beheld the sight of the lighthouse from atop a steep hill.
Finally here. He grinned, bounding down to see Riley, Malodore, Jericho, Sheridan, and Charlie. (The latter two he didn't know but he doesn't care because he was just too glad to be here!) His happiness was short-lived when he saw the cloaked figure and was suddenly on the defensive. It took him some time to finally realize they weren't being attacked but as Petro slowly made his way to the others to approach the lighthouse he never risked showing his back to the figure.
"Where're the others?" He asked when he was close enough. Obviously not there, Petro.

Riley felt the solid earth beneath her, and as quickly as that comfort was gained, she received one more. Malodore's hug was well received, and her eyes quirked upward at the sudden affection. It was almost enough to make her forget about that presence, lurking above. In fact, her thoughts were consumed, for one entire, blissful moment, on nothing but that happy little feeling. Her eyes crinkled in a warm expression, before she finally looked up at the figure at the railing. She schooled her features into something much more familiar - stoic strength.
Pulling away from Malodore slightly, she walked up to just under the railing, and folded her arms neatly. We're coming inside. She announced flatly. If you were planning on stopping us, it's now or never. There was never shame in facing your fate head on, in battle.

"We should wait for the others before entering, if that is an option," Malodore said, infinitely relieved that Riley seemed to be back to her normal self. "Strength in numbers and all that. Also, they may need our aid if they lag too long..." It didn't want to think about the mental effects. The plague doctor itself could still hear echoes from the fog... though it was trying very hard to ignore them...
It peered up at the observer as well. While it didn't feel the need to add any words to Riley's own challenge, it still narrowed its eyes at the shadowy cloaked figure. What were they, anyway? "I wonder," it said, suddenly, tapping the note it still held in one hand. "Reapers. They're Halloween creatures. I wonder if this note was written by one of them?"

Riley didn't want to wait. Riley wanted as few people as possible to be around in case the reaper did decide to come stop them, because she remembered her encounter from last time. The less people were around to be hurt by this reaper, the better. This was why she issued the challenge now, instead of waiting. If they had to fight, they would fight - but the less casualties, the better.
Malodore's words, despite disagreeing with them, still caught her attention. She turned around sharply, her head tilted to one side. She had been unconscious when they first arrived, and had no idea what it was talking about. Note? What note?

The fact that Charlie had been passed around like a sack potatoes had not really affected the pink haired demon much because he was a solid sleeper. Though when the pink haired demon finally did stir and open his eyes and find that a dragon was carrying him he did not react. Instead he smiled.
"Hey Mac!" He called up to the dragon. "Last time you were a unicorn. What happened to your jacket?" The pink haired demon looked down almost expecting to be wearing the bad a** duster but was heavily disappointed to find no jacket at all. Like the time he tried to open the door marked Pirate but really the door had been marked private. Disappointment.
"HEY BRO!" He gave the dragon a serious look. "Your not Mac are you." The serious look stayed. Then he saw it. Macs green hat from behind along with Mac under said hat. His suspicions were proven correct that this was not Mac who was carrying him to the light house.
