Quickhand notes
  • ALL MYTHS ARE REAL.
  • SET IN MODERN WORLD.
  • CRACK-INDUCED ADVENTURE IN WHICH A GREEK GUIDE WITH A POMPADOUR MUST ESCORT AN UNWILLING SOUL TO THE RIVER STYX.

History | How the Afterlife/Religion Works
  • Basically, all religions ever are strengthened by the number of their followers/those that take interest in their tenants/Gods/what-have-you. Christianity's God, for example, is incredibly strong due to the prominence of Christianity. When the last of a religion's follower stops following said religion, the religion dies.
  • When a person dies, they are usually escorted by a representative from that religion to their respective afterlives. (Christian heaven, Norse Valhalla, etc). From there, they are given a place to rest. Eventually, however, the deity of that religion must let the spirit be reincarnated.
  • When they are reincarnated, the soul is basically carted from the afterlife, and then thrown into a big soup. In that soup, all their memories are wiped. Also added is a certain affinity for the religion whose afterlife they had experienced. (For example, if a person went through the River Styx, they'd grow up, and find Greek mythology interesting.)
  • Those that are atheistic have probably never come into contact with the religion they would've been drawn into, or experienced some sort of life changing event that has shaken their belief/interest.
  • All was fine and well... Until the Christian God began to hoard all spirits permanently in heaven (not wanting to let anyone suffer by being reincarnated!). Heaven iss currently shut down for "renovations." (AKA ALL THE ANGELS TRYING TO CONVINCE THEIR MOEBLOB KING TO LET SOULS GO)
  • This caused a great rise in rogue spirits (as Christianity is the world's most popular religion). Thus, other guides from other religions have decided to pounce on the opportunity to strengthen their own religion. (Like Valkyries picking up Christian spirits to strengthen the Norse tradition). It's basically turned into a chaotic free for all...!! YEAH. YEAHHH.

HOW SPIRIT GUIDES WORK.
  • All guides were once human souls. The reason why they aren't reincarnated vary.
  • When a spirit becomes a guide, they endowed certain powers from their religion. Those powers permanently bind that guide to the religion. If the religion should fade from existence, they will fade too.
  • Often, religions tend to set a punishment for guides that don't meet their yearly quota for souls. Greek mythos for example employs use of Prometheus' vultures, and Sisyphus' rock.
  • Thus, guides work not because they were devout when they were alive, but for their own asses.
  • Since chaos erupted, there are tensions between guides of different religions.
  • Guides find dead people with a radar... Thing... LMAO.

THE MAIN STORY.
  • Cae's boy, who is ********, but comes from a Christian family has died. Having a beautiful moe-desu girlfriend, this does not make him very happy.
  • Nie's psycho pomp finds his soul before any other guides. But, in the process of taking him up, his GPS breaks. With the awesome prowess of a directionally-challenged a*****e, he points in a random direction, and announces "I THINK THE RIVER STYX IS THAT WAY."
  • So then an epic world and crackish adventure happens, with Cae's boy bitching and running away every other episode to find his gf... And other spirit guides trying to steal him away.... And Nie's psycho pomp beating them off GDI.
  • They meet a lot of mythological things and it's really cool.
  • Eventually they find Styx. Eventually.
