There was nothing like going out on a hunt after a long day.

She had been called into the news room early because one of the copy editors hadn't shown up, and things were getting jammed. Like no one knew how to spell all of a sudden, and they would be damned if they had to do grammar when they had a gopher for such things. So she had been stuck at a desk, one of her least favorite places when she had plans to do other things, copy editing for the regular reporters.

It had been long and tedious, and she learned first hand how snippy some of them could be. It made her wonder if she was that bad when she had to do rewrites or fact checking.

She got out with her head still attached, though, and had to motor downtown to catch a tech rehearsal for a dance recital being held at the theatre, for which she was doing the sound. It might have been difficult to dance without music, though she was sure they'd be able to improvise.

Or maybe she just gave everyone that credit, since it was kind of her thing.

Anyway, she was glad to be doing something she now considered fun: gathering energy and keeping her eyes out for any trouble.

Fluorite was also on the prowl that night.

Her main worry was filling quota, then handing the orbs to her captain. It was something that they determined would be done nightly, whenever Fluorite was out. It wasn't a question of if Scheelite would be out. He would be, every day, every night, combing Destiny City for the missing agents.

She dearly wished she could help. It was hard to see her old friend in such distress, but Fluorite held no illusions about herself, or her place at the moment. She was new. She had to prove herself.

She had to fill quota. Then, maybe, she could make a dent into Schee's. All the while keeping an eye open for anything that might be clue.

It was hard when you barely had an idea what you were looking for.

Many agents took to the rooftops. For the moment, Fluorite was not that confident with her jumping skills. Instead, she had put a jacket on top of her uniform, managed to slide her footwraps into a pair of her brother's converses (he wouldn't notice... right ?) and stuck to the shadows the best she could.

Painite was humming to herself as she was off patrolling. She wasn't paying as much attention as she probably should have been, but that was generally the case. She just got the job done, focused when she needed to, and the rest of the time had her head in the clouds, daydreaming about more and better.

She was confident in her roof jumping abilities. Which, of course, meant she was barreling toward a fall.

Leaping from a building to one she thought had been substantially lower, only seeing it at a glance, she hit the edge of the roof with her midsection, as the roof was stationary so it couldn't be the one responsible for hitting her, then peeled backwards and fell off the roof. It had been higher than she thought, but still not exactly high.

She fell three stories, slowed by grabbing and failing to cling to a window before landing with a loud bang on top of a dumpster, which had one of its lids open and the other closed.

With a groan she got to her knees and tried to crawl to the edge to let herself down, only to fall into the dumpster in her daze.

It wasn't going very well tonight.

There was a loud CRASH in the alley behind her, and Fluorite froze. What... ? A trap ? A senshi ?

She stopped, focusing for a moment on the newest sense she had acquired - the ability to feel a person's aura. It hadn't come especially easy for the young girl, who found herself having to focus more than not to properly track and feel something. Normal people, she'd found, emitted no energy that she could feel.

Something came from the dumpster, through, and it didn't feel... threatening. It felt safe.

And with that, the young girl jumped and caught the top of the opened side of the dumpster, easily lifting herself to peek inside. "Hey... everything's okay down here ?"

Painite was glad she hadn't landed in anything particularly gross. As far as she knew, anyway. She didn't want to think about it, but she took a moment to gather herself from a head rush before trying to move and find out for sure.

At least no one had been around to see that less than graceful...

"Ah!" She said in surprise, looking up to see, and soon feel, another nega peering down at her. She grinned broadly, nodding her head and holding out her hand, mostly offering for the other to help her out of the trash can. Since she was there, she wasn't just going to point and laugh and leave, was she?

Not that Painite wouldn't be able to work with that, anyway. It was easier to make outlandish predictions and preparations than actually assume anything real about another person before they even exchanged two words. She just smiled brightly and chuckled.

"I'm alright! I... meant to do that. To... check... if dumpsters were safe landing zones for... accidental falls."

She laughed, not believing herself for a moment and not expect her new acquaintance to, either.

"....Yeaaaaahhhh, im sure of that." Ashley wasn't convinced.

In spite of that, the girl pulled herself up completely, and kicked the side of the dumpster to land on the closed lid, taking Painite's hand and extracting the girl from the dumpster.

"So, are dumpsters safe landing zones for accidental falls ?" Fluorite asked, visibly more amused than irritated.

Painite grinned broadly at Fluorite pulled her out of the dumpster, nodding her head in thanks. She brushed herself off, checking her uniform to make sure it was still as clean as it could be, considering. All told, she didn't look like she had fallen into a dumpster, at least. The bags inside must have all been sealed well.

"As it turns out, they're quite brilliant! So, glad we got that cleared up," the short Lieutenant chuckled, offering Fluorite her hand for a second time, only this one was to introduce herself.

"Lieutenant Painite, at your service."

She was always in a good mood. Well, almost always, and when she was down it didn't take much to pick her mood back up. The bright side of life was the best side, even when the work was dark. And she liked the work. That probably helped in her continually optimistic views of life, and she didn't take that for granted.

"Out on rounds?"

At least she hadn't ended up covered head to toe in gunk. That would have been rather unpleasant indeed, and Fluorite didn't want to think about such a thing happening to herself.

Gross.

"Lieutenant Fluorite." The younger girl offered as she leaped down, losing a shoe in the process. Thankfully, not in the dumpster. That would have been unpleasant to explain to Matty...

She propped herself against the side, though, to try to work her feet back into the black converse. "Yeah, you too ?"

She hopped down from the dumpster, looking much more confident in her footing than someone who had just fallen from a roof top should do. She winced a bit, but she felt like she was all in one piece. Not too bruised, and the ache would be gone by the time she powered down for the night, she was sure.

Humming slightly, she looked around to get her bearings, then nodded at Fluorite.

"Of course! A little extra time on the town, if you get my meaning. I've never seen you around before, are you new?" She tilted her head, pondering the other girl. She didn't seem too confident, or was at the very least a little shy. Or maybe she was just not used to having company that appeared from the sky.

In any case, Painite was sure she hadn't seen the other at the big battles recently, which was where she had run into a lot of her comrades that she had never seen before. Sure, it had been a big fight and she could have missed someone, but...

Something told her this wasn't the cast.
PostPosted: Wed Mar 30, 2011 6:02 pm

"Ah... Yes, im new." It wasn't that Fluorite was shy - it was just that she was unused to her new environment, to this new world that had opened to her. Everything had happened so fast, and the young girl was slowly finding her bearing.

Which manifested itself as nervousness, just like now.

The negaverse seemed oddly tight-knit, though - everyone seemed to have figured that she was new right off the bat.

Painite beamed brightly when Fluorite confirmed her suspicion. She nodded her head, moving to offer her another hearty handshake. Well, not so much offer as seize the others hand and shake it vigorously.

"Welcome to the Negaverse, then! This isn't your first time out here alone is it?"

She tilted her head, then laughed. "Well, I guess you're not alone." She was beginning to get a bit silly, feeling her energy raising because she was always happy to meet new people. New friends. And especially new members of her 'work' force. She wanted to make her feel welcome. The first few hunts could be unnerving, especially without one's Captain to help. She had been out without a Captain for a little while, before meeting Sassolite, but she imagined everyone had different experiences.

"Do you want to go hunt together? We can get some energy for you to take back. I've got enough for myself, I should think, at least for now." She grinned. "Though, I guess you can't have enough, can you?"

Painite did not seem to bother the new lieutenant, who let her hand be taken from her side without much off a complain. "Ah, no, don't worry." It wasn't her first time alone, even though one couldn't qualify her as a veteran, far from it.

"You could ? That would be pretty nice..." Safe from the night where she had met Masahiro, and the first few runs with Scheelite, she'd always gone alone. It got... boring, in a way, and there was also the added benefit that if a senshi found her, someone else would have her back.

"Yeah, I guess you can't ever get too much ! I've only got one so far..."

Painite grinned.

"Well! Have you ever caught prey in a trap? I like the classics. Do you want to set up a rope trick? We'll catch them by the ankle, and drain them while they're hanging upside down, all confused. It's hilarious to watch their faces. Plus, you can mostly say whatever you want to them, because they're not going to really remember what happened. Or believe it when they wake up."

She grinned broadly. So sometimes she liked to play with her targets. It's not like they were food: it wasn't rude to have fun on the job, like playing with food was.

At least as far as Painite was concerned. Those were her rules, and she was sticking to them.

"If you pick someone up from an alley around here they're probably all on drugs anyway. But that doesn't matter to the energy you get." She grinned.
PostPosted: Sat Apr 02, 2011 7:38 am

"You know... That sounds hilarious." Fluorite didn't usually bother to play with her targets beyond getting them where they needed to be for her to drain their energy. Usually it just involved having to play the part of the poor little lost child.

Which worked well enough when your targets were drunks anyway.

"I've been mostly picking out drunks when they stumble out of bars."

Painite laughed, nodding her head. She knew it sounded hilarious, and also knew that it was, in practice, hilarious. It was one of her favorite things to do, in fact, though they didn't always need to be drunk or in any way addled to be amusing while swinging from their ankle, upside down.

People, in general, did not like being trapped, and reacted in a very wide range of ways. The trick was making sure one was ready for the possibilities, or at least keen enough to have a second step to any trap, to cover any screaming or flailing, attacking or escape.

Some tried harder than others.

"Drunks! Yes, me too! They're so funny. And easy to catch. They just... stumble right into it." She motioned her head, so they might find an alley with an unsuspecting dope in it.
