I, as Zetetic's faithful roleplay manager, have noticed and heard several people saying they struggle with ORPs. I want to know what you want to see in these ORPs. Are they too complex? Too many people? Are the settings bad for your characters? How about the timing?
Before all that, though, I want to give you some suggestions on how you can participate in ORPs without struggling. <3

Suggestions
1. Try to include everyone; I know some characters are antisocial; and some kids may not be observant as to who's there. If you try to include everyone, and they do the same, we won't have anyone left out.
2. Posting orders. I like posting orders. It makes things easier to follow, it's polite, it looks neat--and it doesn't confuse people. If you post back to back with one person and the ORP gets to five or so pages when everyone else has only posted once--yeah. If you want that kind of thing, there are PRPs. <3 ORPs are made for everyone to play with--well, everyone.
3. If someone's talking to your character, it's polite not to have your character go off and do something else. (Unless your character's one of those kiddos who happens to dislike interaction or they've had some kind of fight before--but I want to have IC showing of this.) Again, we're striving to involve everyone!
Suggestions, comments?

To be completely honest, I don't like posting orders. There are times where you can't help it if you're RPing with one person in the ORP. We have already proven that ORP's die easily if there is an 'order' that has to be followed.

Cooro, dear chap. <3 We've also proven that when only two people roleplay in an ORP, that no one joins in. But thank you for your opinion, I'll certainly take it into account!

Simple solution to both problems.
If you don't like ORPs, don't participate. That's what PRPs/PDs are for. You want to ignore other people. Then take your crap to a PD. Some people DEPEND on ORPs for growths, and you ignoring them and scaring away other people hurts them as far as growths go.
I've had 3 ORPs die on me -that I needed for growths- because people were inconsiderate assholes.
A posting order is nice. If someone is holding it up for to long without good reason, THEN MOVE ON! You gave it a shot and its THEIR problem if everyone moves on without them.

Gotta agree with Hikari. If you've started an interaction in an ORP that you'd like to continue, there's nothing wrong with branching out to a PRP for a moment to continue that particular strand of the conversation there. It allows for a more intimate interaction of your characters, and at the same time, doesn't bring the ORP to center around you.
Posting orders only work if everyone is dedicated to posting - so if someone quits, and doesn't respond in a reasonable amount of time, the thread should move on without them. This doesn't mean that you ditch them though. If possible, keep the character talking to them from running off with other people until it's been more than two days IRL. That's a reasonable amount of time to allow for unforeseen difficulties. If they haven't posted by then, then it's not your fault, and you can easily re-insert your character into the rest of the ORP.

Precisely. If someone does not post within two or so days, you can have your characters do something else. <3

I personally LOVE ORPs, thank you. Unfortunately, If we wait, and wait, and wait for an order, then what about us? It's not like I only have ONE character. I try to play them both. I could be waiting for someone forever just to aknowledge Irae or Feny, while Alome is busy already. Is it fair to the one I'm RPing with who is actually there? And there is always the exchange system. *nods* I did all of Alome's reqs. Via Journal entries. So why do people need to Depend on them all the time?

While you may be good at/comfortable with writing out an obscene amount of solos, others are not. They prefer ORP's, and there's no reason to deny them the ability to use them as what they are, a growth requirement, simply because you can't hold your horses and wait.
People can't acknowledge your character if they just stand in a corner and wait to be acknowledged. Have them approach someone; and if they wouldn't usually approach someone, have something happen that people can't help but notice, like they accidentally trip and bump into someone, or something.
We've already pointed out that you don't have to wait forever for someone to respond - just a reasonable amount of time, and if nobody's posted, then move on. It's a simple concept. I'm sorry if you don't understand it.
You're focusing on what's not fair to you, which I think is kind of selfish in a guild that focuses on the interaction of many people. Even if you phrase it as 'fair to the one I'm RPing with', really, it's the fact that you can't hog up three pages that you're complaining about. Like I said earlier - if you're that eager to continue what you're doing, branch out into a PRP so you don't break the rules.

We still need input for our fall ORP. Perhaps at this point we should skip to a winter one.... ninja
