Cat's favorite trait about himself, but not particularly his most prominent. He naturally enjoys playing people off of one another, and batting around their psyche like a brightly-colored ball of yarn. This isn't to say that he's terribly good at it, and sharper residents have picked up on his game quite quickly- but that isn't to say that he'll back down. One way or another, he wants to get you to do something that you don't want to do.

Cat is interested in you. He's interested in what makes you tick. He's interested in the books you like and the things that annoy you. He's interested in your pets. Your house. Your mother's maiden name. That perfume you're wearing.
While at times this can be an excruciatingly annoying trait for those who draw his endless well of interest, it's vaguely regarded as a positive trait. His curiosity often earns him great depths of information that others would usually not be bothered with, and allows him to learn and understand the detailed workings of most things rather quickly.
Essentially, he's interested. In everything.

An offshoot of being curious about the world around him, Cat can be quite a deep thinker when there's no one to annoy. He will muse on new and unresolved information and topics, and consider a large span of ideas and concepts in great depth. On rare occasions he may slip into a musing "state", at which point he is too greatly involved with his own thoughts to notice the world around him. Being technically invisible aids him in this, and unless magic is used to look for him, can lay absorbed in his own thoughts for days at a time.

Books, books, glorious dusty little bundles of information just waiting to be opened up and unravelled. When The Cat is missing, this is the first place anyone should look. The easiest way to spot him lurking amidst the bookshelves is an open book sitting all on it's own, a little gust of wind flipping the pages every now and then.

What do you expect from an invisible spirit, wrapped in shadows, pretending to be The Cheshire Cat?
Likes: reading, relaxing, stalking making friends, the ladies, cute fluffy things, fishing, gossip, and all the Wonderland related things he can get his hands on. The smell of; good perfume, sugary things, something good cooking, leather. The sound of; smooth jazz, cool blues, sexy swing and other snazzy ragtime beats (playin' the cooool cat~). Dancing to said tunes, specifically sophisticated and suave dances, but not opposed to breaking out the charleston. And yes, he's good at it |DDislikes: spoil-sports and squares; they throw off his groove. T< The smell of; basically anything he deems bad, from rotten flesh to bad cooking. Luckily he doesn't HAVE to breathe. The sound of; anything that isn't jazzy or upbeat enough. Sad music, angry music, electric guitars and growling or screeching vocals. How can one kick it to such a mess of sound??
Why are they enrolled in Amityville Academy?
No longer content with drifting the public library, nor stirring up the locals with his riddles, Cat looks upon education with curiosity and excitement. Cat has no recollection of his former life, though he is a relatively new spirit to come to Halloweentown. (several months at the most before deciding to enrol in school, perhaps a year or so before he actually does)
Aside from purely academic studies, Cat is also very eager to learn more about magic, his own powers, and how to hone himself into a master of his art. Being as enigmatic, witty and elusive as his idol overarches most of his goals.

While not so much what he originally thought when he saw the class name, Cat is well aware that appearance-management is his most important feild. New tips, tricks and just study on the matter is essential for him to evolve his techniques and understand the art better.

Cat more or less intends to get a grounding and understanding of anything that can harm him, with this class. He considers it a defense against magic course rather then an actual magic casting course. If he picks up a few new skills along the way, all the better.

Literature; Cat's biggest passion. This was the FIRST course he sought out when browsing his options, and he didn't even need to think twice before deciding upon it.
[Stealth 1]
When it comes to battles and scares, Cat has little to no offensive capabilities whatsoever. While he is working towards powering up the capacity of his Fear, being an invisible essence wrapped in shadows basically makes this class a must. All of Cat's future escapades rely on his ability to be. Very. Sneaky.
FEAR:
[Unravel]
Reality is a fabric, and Cat's Fear treats it as such. His power lies in unfurling 'ribbons' of reality as though peeling up strips of material. Physically limited to shadows for the time being.
In battle:
Year One || Having only learnt to manipulate shadow ribbons, Cat relies on these in battle. Using them as a rope, he will attempt to wind up his opponent into a shadowy bundle. Of course, shadow ribbons aren't very strong and wouldn't hold long at all, the success of the opponent actually being caught and held in place not very high without training.
Year Two || While not exactly mastering it, Cat can now pull up slightly more complicated sections of reality. Dirt, wood, weak inanimate things like this. Obviously this is much harder, and he is open to attacks while attempting more difficult unravelings. Being that Cat is innately skilled at shadows but not so much so with other materials, the success of his unravel AND the binding of the enemy are now a risk. Should both succeed, the enemy is held for longer.
Year Three || A simple upgrade to his second year ability, Cat may now unravel much stronger materials like stone and metal. These would be much harder to break out of, but again MUCH harder to unravel. He has become more proficient at his year two materials, and can use them instead.
Identity: He takes pleasure in unraveling all sorts of things, wether that is knots, tales, riddles, or even the psyche of his fellow students. To his mind, the motif of a Cheshire Cat suits this ideal nicely, and he has adopted it as such.
Drawbacks: He can only create a physical form by pulling up 'ribbons' of shadows; and this process is DIFFICULT. Cat relies entirely on his Fear for his physical form.
While he can quickly wind up and unravel any part of himself, holding a solid-complete-unwavering form for more then a fleeting moment takes every ounce of his concentration.
For this reason he tends to 'half-form' a lot, leaving trailing curls of shadow ribbons, like orange-peels, drifting from whichever extremity he did not feel the need to finish up at that time. His spirit essentially puppeteers the shell of shadows he creates from the inside; as he masters and strengthens his Fear, can retain his shape firmly enough to wear real clothes on it, instead of having to form the shape of clothes with his shadows.
Note: He cannot 'create' or 'destroy' anything, only separate and unwind sections of reality to reshape it to his liking. For now, he can only manipulate ribbons of shadow, but as he gets stronger he will be able to pull most anything apart into absurdly improbable 'ribbons' of itself. Obviously some things will be much more complicated then others, and some near-impossible.
If another living/undead creature was to be unraveled, it would cause them no pain (if not a great deal of annoyance) and a doctor practiced in reality-bending based magic could easily reel them back into their original shape: reality tends to want to snap back to a more logical position, and can even right itself (in inanimate objects) after being unfurled.
Natural Ability:
[Invisibility]
Exactly as it says, Cat is technically invisible. To make himself visible to the untrained or unskilled eye, he wraps himself up in a layer of shadows, puppeteering it from within. He can be very clearly seen in photos or on video, or if one manages to cover him in paint or something similar.
On campus, his jelly-like ectoplasm is squished and moulded into a humanoid shape, however it's natural form is a round, toothy mass with many long tendrils.

Extra: Since Cat is basically a soul that wraps himself up in ribbons of shadows, I'm thinking that he would just be a dark silhouette that's somewhat transparent and unfurling slightly (or completely) in places.
I'm not entirely sure how it would work IC for his face, but I'm rather fond of two bright, white, featureless orbs making up his eyes, and a big white (blank, no teeth) crescent making up his mouth. The "Cheshire Grin" is something he's adopted on his own due to his love for riddles and mind-gimes, along with shadowy cat-ears and a tail wound up from shadows. He can choose not to have the ears and tail, and any facial features are entirely optional, but it's his personal preference to be known as The Cat.

-Cat moves with a slightly bouncy wobble, his form often shifting as though his ribbons are bundled around a pile of jelly, holding it together. This is a little too close to the truth, to the discomfort of those who can see him while he is invisible. If he moves to quickly, the amount of stretch and squash taking place may cause some of his ribbons to spring undone.
-This effect, along with Cat's own laziness (and possible lack of anatomy knowledge) gives his form and movements something of a Steamboat Willie image. He is bouncy, stretchy, and walks with a literal spring in his step. Basically, being a self-made non-corporeal pile of jelly leaves his form open for ALL sorts of cartoonish mishaps; not to mention he already consists purely of black and white.
-Cat gives off quite a cold aura, and can easily be sensed when passing by, characterized by a rush of cold air.
-Anything held in Cat's stomach will be invisible, hidden by whatever goop he is made of. He can only store a limited amount, and generally only keeps necessities like his collar (on which is hung his skull pendant) which he regurgitates when he needs to use it. It's also possible that the light he uses to form his eyes and mouth are stored in his stomach, but this is unconfirmed.
-Cat can only control his Fear through his fingertips. While invisible he has many arms, but can only summon up the ribbons necessary to form his body. When formed, unless several of his tendrils stretch out from an open coil in different directions, he may concentrate the power of several of his invisible 'fingers' into one of his shadowy 'hands' (think, the way the pokemon Deoxys winds together it's tentacle-like arms to form a hand) and pull up stronger ribbons made of more difficult sections of reality.
-Generally speaking, Cat is tangible. However, it's more or less in the same way that jelly is. You can stick your hand through it, but it'll punch a hole in it. Performing the usual ghostly phasing through walls takes some amount of concentration, however trying to grab him forcefully will yeild as much results as punching water.
-The way his FEAR works, separating sections of reality for his own use, makes the separated sections act differently then they normally would in order for it to work. This means his shadow ribbons are technically tangible as well, however they don't take much force to be unraveled, and if "torn" apart, will puff back into nothingness. Different sections of reality behave differently, and only something that was smokey or intangible to begin with will be able to dissipate when torn apart.
-He does not technically 'float', while invisible. His soul's energy rests in the body, where the most ectoplasm has gathered around. In fact, his goopy tendrils act like malleable stilts, and he can raise and lower himself as he wishes; slipping around the hall, up and over and around other students, and so on, making his movement seem like floating to those who cannot see him.
-This makes floating while he IS formed impossible, unless he extends some of his tendrils out from his ribbon-y encasing and uses them like stilts as normal.
[MINIPETS]
Despite his ghastly nature and shadowy appearance, Cat prefers cute, fluffy and expressive pets- namely, Treats. It's his guilty pleasure, to have something colorful and fluffy to cuddle and play with (and sometimes annoy the hell out of) especially if they smell like sugar and peppermint and all sorts of other delicious smells. Cat also loves other sweet, adorable, 'expressive' pets, such as some of the Wishing pets, and the cuter Lepus.

Carol || White Rabbit What was that? In the corner of Cat's room? A flicker of blood red, but only for a moment. And what is that ticking noise?
Cat considers Carol an extension of himself. A stray part of his soul that jumped off and skittered away to collect bodily form. The crown of the red queen, the Cheshire smile, and the guise of an innocent white rabbit- one can never be sure just what it all means -and Cat likes it that way. While he adores his little sweet smelling treats, his collection of fluffy 'babies' and loves his tiny singing lepus, Cat values nothing higher then Carol.
Amongst the other minis, Carol acts as something of their king. Directing them, organizing them and even going so far as to punish them should he be displeased. He looks up to Cat in his own way, but when the master is away, the minis shall play; and Carol is adamant on enacting his laws and regime upon the host of (what he considers to be) brainless minions. Some are terrified, others quietly obedient, and the odd few who consider themselves brave enough to approah the little chained beastling may be met with a sharp cry of "off with their head!"
Floss || Sweet Treat Out of the small collection of Treats who have formed a little sweet-smelling community in Cat's bedroom, Floss is his number one. She's the only one who really seems to be unfazed by his constant appearing/vanishing act, and the sheer volume of 'playing' with she gets. The other Treats seem to feel it is more like an animal sizing up their prey, and get quite nervous about it.
Luka || Vocalepus While afraid of Cat, and sometimes bought to tears by his teasing attitude, this mini considers herself "taken" by the dark and mysterious boil. She has the tendency to get quite jealous of other ghouls even being near her boil, and might get noisy or demanding of him should his attention waver. He doesn't consider this a problem, as he loves spoiling his pets silly, however he doesn't seem to realize the extent of the little Lepus'...affection.

Did I ever tell you you're amazing? XD;; Back to critting now. (I would draw him if I could. Seriously, he sounds so cool. o u o )
...except he's kind of awesome, so I don't see any big problems. So, how about I just have some questions, instead? (Also, I totally thought the stripes were ribbons too. *Highfives.*)
-- Does Cat want to make friends, or would he rather just distance himself from people and then attempt to manipulate them?
-- Since Cat likes knowing and finding out about everything, is he a gossip? Does he like spreading rumors, perhaps as a threat to manipulate people, etc?
-- Since he loves reading and such, would he purposely go and find others who like reading to make friends with or watch, or whatever he does to people he's interested in?
--Super random, but does he have a favorite genre? XD;
-- Does he like scaring people? You know, for fun?
--How would he react if he met someone who was just as good at riddles/mind-games as he was? Interested? Jealous since they were just as good, what? (Similar, does he get jealous if someone else is the target of everyone's attention?)
And I think I'm out of questions. ^^; I hope those can be helpful. XD;;; Also, if Kallos and Cat ever turn out as students, I request so much RP with Cat. Seriously, you know it'd be hilarious~ :'D

aaaa, thank you so much for all these questions, it's a huge help in developing his personality further |D <3
-Cat likes to stalk people who hate him, and avoid people who like him like the plague. His friends list will be;

But I'm pretty sure he would secretly like someone who looked up to him and bugged him to be friends all the time P: as long as no one was watching he might be nice
-He is the living embodiment of gossip. I wouldn't put it past him in the slightest to use his mass of information from harassing/stalking against people to get his manipulation happys, but he's not a TERRIBLE soul. While he would glee over spreading some hot gossip around the school (scooting one person to the next while invisible? whispering in their ears~) he wouldn't spread anything that would really seriously devastate someone.
-He harasses people who wander into the library to read, but outside of that he has no preference for who he bugs; whoever looks like the most fun C:
-Of music, anything that sounds like BRODYQUEST. Of books, anything and everything. He'll even read explicit novels for the lulz Y:
-Uuuhuhuhu, yes indeed. Especially people who hate it or look easy to scare.
-Cat likes being smart. He would probably praise someone and try and improve himself if they figured out his riddles, but if they were generally 'smarter' he'd probably get the pouts and poof away >w>

UM. s**t. UUUUUUM.
Unless I herpaderped, I think the only question I can ask is if there's anything that could make Cat genuinely angry as opposed to just being pouty/annoyed? Also, is there anything in particular that might give him the willies in return - say, for most cats, water?

XDD <3 excellent questions, thank you~
Mostly, what really ruffles his ribbons are daft people. People who don't fight back, and take everything he says extremely literally- people he can't annoy or insult just because they don't understand what he's trying to do. Party poopers! Even then, though, that would have to be repeated "I don't get it, are we friends?" on their behalf. Also, being shown who is the boss when having his 'usual tactics' foiled through magic or some other ability. This is also on his phobias list, as he would probably get desperate and start bargaining if cornered by someone who was actually able to hurt him.
Outside of the teasing thing, he also HATES high pitched noises (they don't have any real physical effect, but he will probably stop to cover his 'ears' and flinch, leaving him an easy target. If they're loud enough he might even dissipate to try and flee while invisible) and really bright, open spaces where very little shadows are cast. Sunny meadows, that kind of thing. Not the light itself, just the lack of shadows to build himself up from.

Does he play pranks on people? Even accidentally? I mean, popping up in the shower (although that might make girls scream...) or sneaking up on romantic walks through the graveyard on full moon nights?
What happens after he's pumped his subject for all their information? Does he just leave and not come back until something new has happened? Or does he come back regularly? (Sybaline: Come back kitty ghost, I have more to tell you about the new season fashions!!)
Does he have any specific points of interest in his literature? Like a specific genre or subject? Something that he might stray from for a while, but eventually go back to? (Other than the Cheshire cat, that is.) *just saw the answer to this one, fails*
Does he ever "long to be a real boy" or is he happy being able to disappear at any moment?

Now aside from reading books and stalking people who dislike him... what hobbies does he have?
Exactly how tangible is he?
And.. now this might seem kinda weird but I'm curious... does he, himself, cast a shadow? Since.. I imagine light doesn't go straight through him.

@Ice:
-Oh yes, god yes. Especially in situations where it's grossly inappropriate. The two situations you mentioned are absolutely perfect, but other situations like "child carrying large pile of books" or "people watching scary movie in the dark" would also suffice.
-As far as gossip goes, Cat will probably coax info out of them between annoying them and learning more about them as a whole. Where were they born, what is their FEAR, what annoys them the most, and so on. Should he somehow know 'everything' about someone, he would probably proceed to use this information against them in some way. He tends to come and go...a lot. He might not get all the info in one go, nor even attempt to, but he will be back. Oh how he will be back.
-(if I had to really honestly pick a favorite, aside from the Cheshire Cat, it'd probably be old poetry. But he will read anything at least once)
-Maybe some time in his future plotting, if he happens to find someone who doesn't want to wring his neck and he doesn't like annoying the heck out of in return, he might wish there was something more to him. That one however, I'm leaving entirely up to RP <3

-That's actually something I'm debating. I'm working on developing his 'true' form (what he looks like when he's invisible, if one could see him through magic) and thus far it seems to suggest that he would be quite tangible. Just...easy to splash apart and very easy to slop back together again. I'm actually searching for a specific sub species to match him, but thus far unlucky. D':
-Ooh, good question...I would say the shadows he pulls up start casting their own shadows as soon as he uses his FEAR on them, as it seems to turn them into grab-able, breakable objects. His invisible form I'm undecided on, however.

Derp....................... sorry I really suck at coming up with questions >.> so forgive me sad but I'm just thinking of personalities of my own so sorry if this is a little weird xD
- But just thinking of various personalities how would he react with someone who thinks he is rather adorable and constantly clings to him or stalks him? (maybe someone who adores cats and possibly just wants to cuddle him)
- Is there any sort of species that he wouldn't get along with? I know some have fear of something like werewolves or etc.?
Errrr I think that is all I can think of atm, <3 I do like that you based him off of the Cheshire cat (I used to think he was curled up paper when I was a kid).

-Cat doesn't like people who adore him. He /really/ doesn't like them. If he was trying to be all cool and creepy and someone was like OMG CUTE KITTY EEE *cuddles* he would probably lose his spook-mojo and get cranky. His worst-case scenario is a stalker who cannot be belittled or scared away, and one who can see him or follow him around irregardless of his stealth attempts.
-Aside from Reapers (he might still attempt to annoy them but they give him the willies

Added a bunch of new things, including current funds towards custom, a big love pile of art, a groanspring account, some random factoids (to be arranged properly shortly) and minipet info.
Also, after much RP and plotting, Cat's True Form has been devised. This is not 100% concrete, but rather a forming idea, and means a new subspecies classification will have to be selected.
Cat's invisible form can be seen in photographs, and through digital video formats, as well as by a few of the more magically inclined.
Not that you'd want to see it.
