Simple no?
Schools
The schools are areas of magic that you excel in. You are a master of those schools. Your spells are at their best and your powers are more focused when casting spells from those schools. You can cast spells that are outside your schools, but they will lack the strength and grace of your primary spells. You may NOT, cast spells that are outside your color(s) and you must show a LACK of proficiency when casting spells outside your schools. (For example, a green/white mage that does not have summoning as a school can still summon a single soldier, but cannot cast any kind of mind magic.)
Because of the limitless possibilities of Magic, I couldn't possibly put together a list of all the schools, so you can pick/create your own, as long as the name is self explanatory.
Remember:
"A character is defined more by what he/she CAN'T do than by what he/she CAN."
Colors
Your color(s) should be evident in your character. The colors are, in some respects, a large part of who you are. Be sure you understand what the colors mean in terms of charter. Understanding the nuances of your color(s) can help you make an interesting and believable character.
The following is a guide to better help to understand the colors in a more characterized way.
White:
A white mage understands above all else, that community and order are the most important things of all. A white mage will seek out others to be around and will do everything in their powers to help the group succeed. A white mage will lay down the law and enforce it in order to preserve and protect the group.
Blue:
To a blue mage, knowledge is paramount. A blue mage deals with ephemeral things, trickery of the mind and subtle control. Most blue mages, when faced with a problem, will back down, study the obstacle from all angles, and then attack with a well thought out plan in mind. Blue mages often bend rules for their own gain, but they hardly ever break them.
Black:
Black mages are ambitious to a fault and will do anything to achieve power. A black mage will do anything to get ahead. They see things like health and souls as simple bargaining chips. They are without remorse and without pity. Some take pleasure in the suffering of others. While others simply do not care as they injure and kill to get what they want.
Red:
"Screw the rules, I'll do as I damn well please!"-Any red mage ever. A red mage is fiercely independent. They rely on no one, take orders from no one, and tolerate none who believe in such idiotic things. A red mage does what he/she wants, end of story. A red mage simply cannot be controlled, if they are, they've died inside.
Green:
Believing in the principals of life, growth and base urges, green mages are often animalistic. That's not to say they are unthinking brutes, they simply do what their bodies tell them. If they're tired, they sleep, if they're hungry, they hunt. Green mages often worship nature as their mother, and are willing and able to make the forest grow rapidly.
