xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxooc thread | character profiles

It's been five years since your six favorite grade school friends have glanced at each other. After that fateful day in Kenwood Pond, the group tried to leave it all behind them. Perhaps the wounds were too great to maintain; but, eventually they went their seperate ways. Except for the ones that had paired up and created a family together. Some left simply because they couldn't drop their grudges. We have hate that doesn't make much sense, and we have hate that makes more sense than anyone would know.

Jack and Bella Desmond have been married since the summer after all the horror concluded itself, they have a beautiful bouncing baby boy named Terrance. Alice and Adam have been engaged since he proposed during the reception of Bella and Jack's wedding...Skylar was invited, but she didn't show. Speaking of Sky, she has a new boyfriend: Jack's cousin. Jack doesn't know, how will he take the news? Cailen has a new job, and a new friend. She's good at her job and he respects her, which lead to the inevitable friendship.

After considerable time apart, Alice has decided that it's time to get the group back together. She misses everyone and hopes that the feeling is mutual within the rest of the group; however, there are some new people to meet of course. Cailen didn't want to go alone to the reunion, so he invited this new friend as his 'date', and Skylar brought her new beau. Will Skylar notice Cailen's "date"? Will Cailen notice Sky's new boytoy? Neither of them acted upon their feelings for each other when they had the chance; but, will they finally discover something that they didn't try to see before? Can they put aside their old grudges to rekindle their once unbreakable bond?

Here's the skinny, guys.
To the original members, you are welcome to use the same model you did in IABOM. However, since you're character is five years older, you're also welcome to pick a new model that looks like your old one, just... older. c:

New people! Welcome! *hands out muffin basket* There are some new roles to chose from, we hope you'll join us. ^^ You might want to read through IABOM (... I know, daunting task) if you want to have an understanding of what happened.

User Image Skylar felt as if she were dreaming. Did she actually think this was a good idea? No. It was a horrible idea. Why she ever agreed to it, she had no idea. ’I must have been out of my mind’ It was the only possible explanation. She was never supposed to see these people again. None of this made sense. It almost felt like she was walking into some kind of trap. She knew Alice wouldn’t do such a thing but that uneasy feeling was still with her.

Cailen had kept his promise of taking her to her father as soon as the police dealt with it. Skylar didn’t talk to him much during the trip back. She was too embarrassed by the way she had acted. Also she had just been focused on getting to her dad. Once they had pulled up in front of his house, Skylar said goodbye and left. That was the last time she had seen Cailen, or any of the others for that matter.

Even though Skylar’s father was confused by what was going on with his daughter, he never got a solid answer. What he knew came from whatever the other parents told him. Skylar simply said that there were some minor complications that caused her to be away. She also told him that her and Jack broke up, although she wouldn’t tell him the reason. She kept most of what was going on in her head to herself. If she ever cried from the experiences, she did it in the safety of her room where her dad wouldn’t be able to see. She didn’t want him worrying about her. She would be fine…eventually.

Skylar moved back in with her father a week after the whole ordeal. He liked the idea because then he could keep an eye on her. She didn’t do much those first couple of months. Skylar would stay inside and look up some old photos, staring at them for hours on end. She knew that this worried her father but she had to do it. The one thing she never wanted to happen was to forget anyone. Other than that, she just waited for the inevitable to happen. The loss of her eyesight. But that never happened. It confused both her dad and her. They talked to her doctor about it and he didn’t have any explanation either. The disease was still there and it was still affecting her eyesight. That was something that Skylar noticed. She had started to have to wear glasses, switching to contacts when she couldn’t take it anymore. Soon neither of these would help. It was inevitable. Her eyesight would be gone soon. The doctor practically implied that it could happen any day now.

After about a year, Skylar was able to go out into the world and almost start to live a normal life. She got herself a job and was even a bit social. The social side of her didn’t usually carry out of her work life. That was, until she met her current boyfriend. He was sweet and able to make her smile. That was probably the most important thing to her. He slowly got her to open herself up to him more and more as each day passed. Soon, she was able to tell him anything, even the one thing she never got a chance to tell her old friends.

When the invitation from Alice came, Skylar explained to her boyfriend who these people were. She didn’t go much into the past of everything but it gave her reason to pause when she discovered that the very man she was dating right now was the cousin of her ex. How was she supposed to deal with that? Her little voice in her head told she didn’t have to. This guy was amazing and nice and just because he was related to Jack didn’t mean anything. She, of course, asked him to come with her for support and he agreed. She only wished that he was showing up with her. He had some things he needed to take care of so he would be coming as soon as he could.

Skylar knew there was no point in stalling any longer. She was either going to go in now or she would never do it. It took all her will power to push her legs forward. Taking the final steps into the restaurant, she looked around. She didn’t see anyone there yet. The thought of being the first person there wasn’t all too appealing. Waiting for the others to show up would just kill her. She really didn’t know what to do. Did she talk to one of the hostess and say that she was here for the reservation with Alice or did she just wait until someone else showed up? The best thing Sky could really do at this moment was just stand there. ’Looks like option two then.’

[Hope the little thing I did with the boyfriend is alright. I just figured since he isn’t filled yet, it gives an excuse]

Alice stood in the women's washroom at the restaurant shortly after arriving with her fiancé, Adam. This was seemingly the thousandth time she'd taken the simple test after noticing that Aunt Flow was almost a month late. Just like all the others, the small white stick in her hand flashed a small pink plus sign. This wasn't a new occurrence by any means and would not be the first time she had found out she was pregnant. A year earlier, after much work on the part of she and Adam, they learned that they were going to have a baby; a baby girl at that. Alice was overwhelmed with joy. Ever since Bella and Jack had their baby, Alice knew she wanted one of her own and now it was finally happening.

That was until she started noticing the intense abdominal pains and the spotting of blood that followed. "Adam... Adam I need to go to the hospital... I think something's happening to the baby!" Upon arrival at the hospital, the two expectant parents were presented with news that no one ever wants to hear. I'm sorry, you've lost the baby....

Alice forced her eyes shut as if somehow it would make the painful memory go away. She was only just now starting to overcome the downward spiral of depression she'd experienced after the miscarriage. It had been incredibly rough on both her and Adam; almost costing the two their relationship before they could even tie the knot. Thankfully they persevered, but as Alice looked down at the positive pregnancy test in her hand, she wasn't sure that they would be able to live through that ordeal once again.

Tossing the test prior to exiting the washroom, Alice decided that for now she would pretend that nothing happened as she walked over to the table where Adam was waiting for her. So far none of the others had showed up and Alice grew slightly nervous. What if no one comes? Maybe this group will never be close again.... She took a sip of water from the glass that the waitress had placed in front of her seat at the table while she was gone while she glanced around the restaurant looking for any signs of the people who used to be so near and dear to her heart.

What had happened at the lakehouse was a trying ordeal for everyone and really tested the strength of their friendships. Unfortunately, not many passed the strength test. Alice hadn't expected Skylar to show up at Bella and Jack's wedding, but she couldn't hide her disappointment that she hadn't spoken to her former best friend in such a long time. Alice also hadn't expected Adam to propose at the wedding reception, either. Following the wedding, Alice saw less and less of even Jack and Bella and hardly spoke to Cailen (especially after her recent engagement). She had, however, managed to keep busy to keep her mind off of the fact that she lost touch with her friends. Not long after the Kenwood incident, Alice decided to focus more on her artwork and started submitting paintings to different art galleries around the city. She hadn't managed to make much success at first, but eventually she'd caught the eye of a particular buyer who adored her painting style. Ever since she has been pouring herself into her work in order to both meet the demand of the galleries that were now begging for her pieces, but also to keep her mind occupied. If it were for Adam pushing her to continue painting during her depression, she may have never gotten through.

"I hope they show..." she spoke softly in Adam's direction before taking another nervous sip from her water glass. As soon as the words left her mouth she caught sight of a face she hadn't seen in years - Skylar. A large smile formed itself across her face; overjoyed that her former best friend had decided to show up after all. Alice immediately stood up and waved in Skylar's direction to signal where she and Adam were seated in the crowded restaurant. "Sky, we're over here!"

Out Of Coffee I figured that Alice would show up before everyone else since she made the reservation, and just kinda assumed that Adam would be there with her, what with them being engaged and all. I can edit if need be. ^^

Over the past five years, Jack had gotten himself a more stable job: he finally finished school to become an architect. It not only made him seem more "business-like", but it brought in more cash for the family. It gave his family the new house in the country and the new silver Hybrid Sedan. It was an excellent choice for the family; Terrance, the baby of the new family, seemed to like it because of the cup holders and different pockets in the back seat. When Jack got the email about the reunion from Alice, he was hesitant to even reply. He wasn't sure if it was a good idea to see them all, not after all that time and no talking. But Bella was the one to talk him into it, she said that it would be a great idea for their friends to finally meet Terrance and to talk about everyone's successes. Jack was quite fond of his successes, so he didn't mind if he had to brag a tad about his new job (and kid).

At the current moment in time, Jack was in the driver seat with some Collective Soul emitting from the speakers. Terrance Desmond had requested "Light Shine Down" a million times, over and over. Jack had to admit it was a great song and hearing his son sing (only the chorus, mind you) it made the long trip a tad easier to deal with. Every once in a while, he would look over at his wife with a smile, the same smile from when he first said "I love you" to her face. And after he sent his wife a smile, he'd check the rear view mirror to make sure his kid was still buckled up. Occasionally, he'd be sleeping, singing along to the music, or coloring in his Batman Coloring Book. Jack couldn't be more proud.

The ride, according to the 'GPS', was an hour and a half (almost two hours). Jack was never a fan of driving long distances, but Bella thought it so important that they make the trip for their "friends". He felt bad for his son, who had to deal with a long car ride and a possible late night. Jack was looking forward to seeing Adam, though, since they had worked on a few projects together over the phone. They hadn't gotten the chance to really ask each other about their lives, the calls were strictly business. He was glad to know he'd get to actually converse about life with the guy. Although, the one person he worried about seeing was Skylar. All he remembered was breaking her heart, inviting her to the wedding that she didn't even attend, and the horrific look in her eyes that he could never wipe from memory. But as soon as he looked in Bella's general direction, all his worry faded away and he remembered just how happy he truly was.

The voice of Ed Roland started to sing the most relevant of all songs from his speakers:
"There once was love, thrown into your room. But you never knew."

Jack's lips formed the words and he whispered along, he couldn't help it, the song was too beautiful to ignore:

"There once were eyes, that only saw you, but you never knew..."

Just as the song had gotten into full swing, he felt a tug on his sleeve. He turned his head abruptly to see that his son had reached forward with all his might to get his father's attention. Jack turned the music down, "What's up, kiddo?" Terrance folded his arms across his chest in a huff and Jack raised an eyebrow in the rearview mirror. "Use your words, Terrance." The boy pouted and stomped his foot on the imaginary floor. Jack started to speak again when his son finally spoke up: "Put th'OTHER song on, DADDY!"

Jack shrugged and cocked his head to the side, "I didn't hear a please in that request, kiddo."

Terrance made another huff with his body and mouth, grabbed his coloring book and made to look like he was about to throw it. Jack raised a hand from the steering wheel to hold up a pointer finger and the 4 1/2 year old dropped the book, "Can you pleeeeeeeeaaaase put on th'SONG I LIKE?" Jack smiled in agreement and pressed the button for DISC 2 and the song played immediately. Terrance fell back into his seat and nodded to the music. Jack shook his head in amusement.

The sign for the town came up along the side of the road and Jack pulled onto the street. It took only twenty more minutes until the 'GPS' stated that the restaurant was on their left. Jack pulled into the parking lot and shut the car off with one swift push of his finger. He slid out of the car and adjusted his green sweater vest over his white button up shirt. He stuffed his phone and wallet into his correct pockets and moved towards the other side of the car to open the car for his beloved wife. When she got out of the car, he planted a swift and quick kiss on her lips before moving, again to the other side of the car. As soon as he unbuckled his son, he leaped from the car and dragged his coat behind him over to Bella. Terrance gripped her hand tightly and smiled brightly. Jack just locked the car and moved to the other side of Terrance.

"You ready?" He looked over to Bella with a nervous smile.

User ImageSkylar felt the horrible cold rock feeling hit her in the pit of the stomach as she stood there. There was no telling how out of place she felt at that moment. It was moments like these that Skylar wished she had the ability to disappear. It seemed she had the power except when she actually wanted. Pretty useless at the moment. Her anxiety was building up so much that she was thinking of just leaving. She would send an email to Alice explaining that something came up. That was the best idea in her opinion but she was spotted before she could go through with it.

”Sky, we’re over here.” It had been a long time since she had heard her nickname spoken by a female voice. It had been years since she had heard that particular voice. The voice that belonged to the person she had considered her best friend. Taking a deep breath, Sky turned to look where the voice was coming from. She realized why she hadn’t spotted them before. They had changed. It wasn’t a big change but still it was there. She knew she changed a bit as well. This small changed frightened her though. It was almost like it meant that she was starting to forget their faces.

’Just go over there. You have to. Just move your legs and you’ll feel better once you are actually sitting down.’ It seemed like it took ten minutes before her legs actually moved but really it was about fifteen seconds. Walking over to where Alice and Adam were, Skylar smiled slightly at them before sitting down. ”Hi Alice, Adam.” Her pervious thought of sitting down and feeling better was false. Instead she felt her heart race all the more. ’Why are you acting this way? These people once were your closest friends.’ She could only hope that as the evening progressed, her nerves would go away.

User Image Sitting at the booth-like table hidden away in a private corner that had been pre-reserved, Adam kept his eyes on the visage of his reflection on the widow. Which was more of a wall than a window, and thankfully five years had been enough time for him to completely forget the interior of that lakehouse. She’s in the bathroom again…, Adam couldn’t help but feel concerned. With their illnesses progressing slowly; but, surely (though the medication thankfully ensured it would not progress much more) Adam hoped that she wasn’t stuck in the bathroom, writhing in pain, unable to leave the restroom. Tapping his fingers against the posh wood table, Adam turned his head from the glass to glance towards the hallway leading to the restroom. A heavy weight pinned down upon his heart. ‘ Where are you Alice?’, She hadn’t even been gone five minutes, and here he was. Worrying. Worrying about her health, worrying about seeing the group, and worried about their relationship.

At the time, Adam had thought his proposal was romantic. All their friends would be there, no one would suspect it (and Alice was particularly good at figuring out surprises when he tried to throw them) so he went ahead and did it. To be honest, he was euphoric when she said yes, but now he regretted having proposed at Jack’s wedding. The gap between them was massive, and he wouldn’t be surprised if Jack didn’t show. ‘
Someone would have to watch the baby…’, Adam could imagine Jack playing on the floor with a toddler while Bella and Alice gabbed back and forth. Bella would probably tease his hair, and she would be right to. However, the present dinner wasn’t the problem. Adam racked his brain every other moment.

Five years together, four as an engaged couple, and Alice hadn’t set a date. If not for what happened the previous year…with losing the baby…he could think of no other reason why they couldn’t set a date. ‘
Does she even want to be my wife?’, As the months dragged on, Adam was more and more unsure. Sure, now things seemed to be healed from the disaster; but, now she was acting elusive again…and all Adam could think of as an explaination is: ‘ How do I tell him? How do I end things? That’s whats on her mind…’ Maybe she couldn’t marry unless they were all friends again, and that was why Adam reluctantly smiled and said that this dinner was a great idea. ‘ Its that…or we‘re over.’ Raising his hand, Adam reached for his water glass and raised it towards his face. He turned his chin, and there she was. Radiantly beautiful, like always.

Watching Alice almost float towards him in that little dress of hers, Adam presented an anxious grin. Perhaps in the hopes of soothing Alice’s jitters. ‘
Please…just let this phase be jitters.’, Reaching out his free hand, Adam attempted to clasp his hand overtop her own.

I hope they show.”, for his sake, Adam certainly hoped too.

Me too…

Seeing a bright smile, a blue moon in the past few weeks, Adam brightened a smile himself before turning his head around towards wherever she was looking. Seeing Skylar standing beside the lobby, Adam raised his hand in a wave and pointed towards the empty seats. Seeing the fluidity of her movements, it didn’t take a genius to know that Skylar was feeling very apprehensive about tonight. He certainly hoped that was from nerves as well.

Hey, Skylar!”, Adam said with a casual smile, his fingers gently brushing over Alice’s knuckles as if to bolster the spark of happiness that he had witnessed upon her face. As if his life was on the line, Adam was going to do his best to make this night a success. There was no other option than keeping that smile on Alice’s face for as long as possible. Sending Alice his happy grin as well, Adam returned his attention to Skylar and transferred a little bit of sunshine to the new arrival.

Its great to see you.

User Image Sitting in the passenger seat of the car, Bella’s eyes were still directed outside, watching the scenery pass by. Sitting in the car was always a calm experience for Bella, like going to the museum. How has the landscape changed today? Entertained by Jack’s singing, her baby’s questions, and the heads of grain blowing in the breeze, the time passed by in no time. Given Bella’s lifestyle change, the move to Featherwood was the best choice for them. A professional photographer working freelance, Bella mostly earned their spending money (as Jack’s income paid for bread and bills) via teaching a once-a-week dancing class. Rotating between Ballet for little ones and belly dancing every other week, Bella kept true to her promise not to give up dancing. Even if it was just something small, it was a big step for her…not to mention the fact that it helped her lose belly fat before she and Jack tied the knot.

Perhaps Jack had an intuition about her movements, or he had excellent perception to see movement in the corner of his eye, but every time she turned to look at him he was there with that smile. Smiling a real smile now for the past five years instead of her tomboyish half-thing, Bella’s entire demeanour brightened just looking at Jack’s face. No, things hadn’t been easy. It took her two years before his ‘clean’ ways changed her ‘slob’ ones into a happy compromise, and now little things such as organization came naturally to her. She was certainly proud of her Jack for finishing college, he was almost a different man now than he was all those years ago. ‘
I wonder if Cailen‘s changed…’ Bella wondered whom would show up.

In the back seat Terrance was singing again, and that caused Bella to flicker her eyes towards the rear-view mirror and look at her son. Kissing on the mouth and singing expressed unashamed in their family, Bella was quite pleased in her decision to home-school their son. At least for a few years. He wasn’t school age at the moment, but he knew a few letters and could spell simple words. To be fair, Bella hadn’t even discussed her decision with Jack yet. Perhaps he would approve, perhaps he wouldn’t. Catching Jack staring at her like they just got married yesterday, Bella smiled her smile and nibbled absentmindedly on her lip. Which resulted in something in-between lascivious and cute. Neither of which she was trying to be.

Are you sure we shouldn‘t just get a motel?’, Bella wordlessly asked, but did not direct her face towards him in order to ask it. She loved her baby, but if they ended up staying out too late, perhaps none of them would want to trek the long drive home tonight. ‘ Unless only Alice and Adam show…then we might leave early.’ At any rate, Bella smiled at her husband and rested her head against the back of the seat until they pulled into the parking lot twenty minutes later. A smile in her heart at how adorable their son was most of the time.

~

When the car stopped and the engine silenced itself, the realization that this dinner was happening finally kicked in. Sitting in the car with an anxious expression, Bella felt the weight of the world nauseating her stomach. ‘
Oh gosh…what if Skylar is in there. What if Alice or Adam couldn‘t make it…What if they see us and leave?’ Thoughts consumed her movement, and if not for her white knight opening her car door, she’d have probably sat in the car for another three minutes. Smiling as she climbed out of the car, Bella graciously accepted the peck on her mouth that warmed her lips regardless of how routine it was.

Hovering behind Jack as their baby boy exited the car, Bella unintentionally behaved like a bird waiting for picnicker’s to leave so that she could hold her son’s hand. That may have been how it looked to Terrance; but, it was certainly not her intent, and he did not complain. Bending to kiss her son’s cheek, she smiled at seeing him with his batman coloring book and crayon box. Her little angel was the sweetest thing in the world, or the snottiest brat. Tonight, Bella hoped for the former.

Terry, sweetheart, no making a fuss over what you eat tonight; okay?”, Bella smiled at her pouty-face son, who wasn’t sure he really wanted to meet a bunch of strangers tonight. To be honest, he’d rather go out for pizza and play mousetrap. Leaning up just in time to hear Jack ask if they were ready, Bella nervously nibbled on her lip and felt her feet fill with lead.

Urrrr…”, Bella didn’t want to say ‘no’, but certainly wished she could. Parting the distance between herself and Jack, Bella folded her free hand against Jack’s (now) clean-shaven face, she leaned in to press her mouth against his own.

Moooooooooommmm…”, Bella didn’t need to look down to know their son was half-grimacing; but, she didn’t care. She might not have the opportunity to kiss her husband again until the dinner was over, and she needed his special kisses to have the confidence to go in there and face the lions. Lingering to deepen that kiss, Bella folded her arm around his head to keep Jack there long enough to truly relish the taste and texture of his mouth before parting their mouths and smiling.

Come-on, best get in there before Alice and Adam think we‘re a no-show.”, Walking inside the building as quickly as Terrance could walk to the doors, Bella looked through the glass doors as soon as she was able and a frown dampened her mood. The restaurant was so much nicer than she had originally imagined. Here she was wearing jeans and a very nice top with their four and a half year old. No one brought their children to restaurants like this. ‘ Oh she should have hired a sitter…’, Bells bit down on her lip and exchanged a glance with Jack. The doorman having already seen their baby and grimaced the hint of a grimace on her face.

Walking inside before she could start walking backwards, Bella smiled at the man holding the door open and peeked around at the tables. Seeing Alice from the angle, Bella smiled once more at Jack before walking towards the table. Terrance walking even slower than usual due to his eyes looking up at a large chandelier on the ceiling. Almost dropping his coloring book in his excitement at how pretty the lights were in this upscale, modern, establishment.

There was no doubt in Alice's mind that Skylar would have preferred to be any other place on the planet than where she currently was. Alice found herself thankful that Skylar had showed up before Jack and Bella, for fear that if they had been the ones to arrive first that Skylar would take one look at them at the table and leave. Feeling Adam's fingers brush against her hand caused her to turn in his direction and smile as Skylar walked over in their direction. I wonder how long it's been since he's seen me smile like that.... She immediately felt horrible for being somewhat emotionally unavailable the past few weeks. Ever since the first positive pregnancy test she had taken this time around that was the only thing occupying her mind. She knew that the best course of action would be to see her doctor but a part of her was even worried to do that, fearing that her doctor would inform her that she was likely to miscarry just like before. Everything would be over. Everything.

Alice turned her attention back to the restaurant. Skylar had taken a seat and Alice flashed a smile in her direction. "It's so good to see you, Sky. How have you been?" Alice questioned hoping that getting Skylar talking would calm her nerves at least slightly.

Her hopes were immediately dismantled when she saw the sight of Bella and Jack with their little boy in tow approaching the table. It was not that she didn't want to see them, it had been forever since she had the chance to chat with Bella about their lives and she knew that Adam was looking forward to getting some guy time with Jack. It was more that Alice was so surprised that Skylar had actually showed after disappearing for five years - Alice didn't want her to walk out again.

A sick feeling began to well up in the pit of Alice's stomach as she watched the happily married couple bring their son into the restaurant. Alice had intentionally picked one of the fancier establishments in hopes that Bella and Jack would feel it inappropriate to bring their child along. It was a cruel reminder for her of what she and Adam were unable to have. Alice had not anticipated this reunion to be particularly difficult for her; knowing that she did not have a particular vendetta against any of the group's members, but now she felt like she was just as uneasy as everyone else. Immediately Alice wanted to think up some reason for her to excuse herself from the table for a few moments but ultimately decided that since she was the one who organized the little get-together that it would be rude for her to look for an excuse to break away so quickly. Instead she chose a more subtle route at letting out the fact she was becoming a touch anxious and reached under the table for Adam's hand, giving it a slight squeeze. The simple gesture was probably the most emotional filled that she had displayed with him since finding out she might once again be pregnant.

More to distract herself, but also to keep Skylar's attention off of who just arrived, Alice turned back towards her. "Please, do tell what you've been up to all this time," she asked.

The sudden affection from his wife, as passionate and sweet as it was, made Jack feel a tad uneasy. The fact that she gave him the kiss then, made him realize how nervous Bella really was. She usually only kissed him in public that way to "claim her territory", so to speak. He appreciated the kiss and he loved her for it. As soon as it ended, he saw the embarrassment on Terrance's face and reached down to ruffle his hair a bit. As soon as they entered the restaurant, Jack's eyes lit up in amazement.

"It certainly is luxurious, eh?"

Terrance was busy gawking at the chandelier and he was pretty sure Bella worried that she had dressed down for the occasion. But Jack was comfortable in his attire, how were they supposed to know what kind of place they were to meet at? He didn't have anything to prove for those people, why make a big show of his appearance for people that may not even want to see him?

It was then that he caught sight of the back of Skylar's head. He could tell, just from the way she sat and the way her hair fell at her curved sides who it was. (Dating someone for so long, it's only natural to recognize the little things.) Jack debated high tailing it out of there. But he couldn't do that to Bella, but it would be a good excuse to bring Terrance home since it was obvious that it was a bit inappropriate for him to be there. But Jack just casually waved towards their table and ushered his wife and child over. He quickly picked Terrance up by the waist and held him against his hip. The kid obviously wanted to be on his own, but Jack politely excused himself:

"It's very nice to finally see you guys," He smiled towards Adam and Alice. He tried to look in Sky's direction but he couldn't. He wasn't sure why he was mad at her, but part of it could be the fact that he invited her to the wedding and she didn't even have the curtesy to RSVP with a 'no'. "Just goin' to get a booster seat for the kiddo..."

Terrance made a fuss about being a big boy, about how he's almost the big five. Jack just chuckled and walked over to the waitress at the front. She seemed quite please to be confronted by a strapping young man. She reached forward to pinch Terrance's cheek playfully and sent Jack a cute little wink.

"What can I do for you, sweetheart?"

"I'd like a booster seat for my kid here, for..." he gestured back over towards the table. "...that table."

She smiled in acknowledgement and lead Jack into the back part of the restaurant. He followed with ease. When the woman finally pulled out the high chair, Jack followed her back to the table as she set the chair at the end of the table, by Alice and Adam. Jack smiled and placed his kid into the seat with all of his accoutrement. Terrance seemed content in his seating, finally. Jack found the seat beside his wife, thankfully between both Terrance and her.

He reached his hand forward towards Adam, "Great to see you." He nodded towards Alice, "You been good?"

[ooc: Erk, I wasn't sure how the table was set up. If no one likes this I can totally change it.]

As soon as Scott realized that the Skylar he had been dating was the same Skylar that Jack dumped flat on her a**, he was not very pleased to be getting some kind of sloppy seconds. But regardless, Sky told him not to tell his cousin. It didn't really matter, Scott barely talked to Jack anyway. They were two different people. As kids, when his dad would bring him to the Desmond house for some kind of holiday party, Scott always tormented his cousin with throwing mud at his face or beating him senseless when the adults weren't looking. Scott had inherited his father's height, it seems that Cindy's (Jack's mom) side of the family had some tall men, so he had that going for him that Jack didn't get. Scott had talked to Skylar about the whole "reunion" thing, how he wasn't all that into going, but she seemed really upset about going alone. So, he was talked into it. He was only going to arrive for the food, for Sky, and then leave with her as soon as he could.

At the moment, Scott was across the street at a record store. He didn't bother to dress up for the occasion. It wasn't his friends, he could give two shits about them. But, for Sky, he would at least attend. He told Sky that he was working that night, but it only gave him an excuse to be late. He stared at an old vinyl of Deep Purple and contemplated buying it. But then Sky would know he lied about the whole "working" thing. Finally, Scott felt obliged to finally leave the store and head into the restaurant. Slow and with a trudge to his feet, he made it to the cross walk, pressed the button and waited. The hand on the electronic sign didn't just say "Hey, don't walk!" it said "The hell are you doin, bro? Go home!"

Scott saw the white walking man and ran across the street. Even if he wanted to turn and just walk home or go shopping for some new vinyl, he couldn't leave Sky hanging. He immediately burst through the front door in his old off-white band tee and loose jeans and felt out of place. He didn't even bother to shave. His shaggy blonde hair fell around his ears and he searched the entire restaurant for his lovely girlfriend. The waitress asked him something about food and he completely ignored her. He finally found Skylar and walked over with his hands in his pockets.

As soon as Scott saw Jack, he rolled his eyes and waved. He stood behind Sky and grabbed her shoulders as if he were to rub them, "Sorry I'm a bit late or somethin', got caught up and stuff." He leaned down and pressed his lips on Sky's cheek, then finally grabbed the seat beside her and leaned on his elbows.

He puffed out his cheeks, rolled his eyes, and looked at Sky with a smile that said: 'I'm here, I better get some kinda reward.'

User ImageSkylar could only manage a small smile towards Alice and Adam. She was still a bit nervous. How could she not be? She literally hadn’t spoken to any one from the group for five years. It wasn’t like things were going to bounce back to normal. It left Skylar wondering if everyone else had kept in touch but her. If so, this was going to be a long night. At least Bella and Jack hadn’t arrived yet. They were the ones that Skylar was the most nervous about.

When Alice asked her how she was, Skylar didn’t really know what to say. It had been interesting these last five years but she didn’t know what she wanted to tell them. Should she say anything? She knew she should at least say she was fine or that everything was great. However, just as she was about to speak, Jack and Bella came to the table. Jack greeted Adam and Alice and then left to go get a chair for their son. Even though she felt absolutely horrible for thinking this way, Skylar couldn’t help but look at him and know that he came about because of Jack cheating on her. She tried to keep up a smile though. The last thing she wanted was for people to blame her for ruining the night.

When Jack came back, he still didn’t acknowledge her existence. Skylar couldn’t decide if this was a good thing or not. Would it just be easier to ignore each other through dinner? Seeing Alice and Adam, it was no mystery that the two of them were together and she knew for a fact that Jack and Bella were married. The out-of-place feeling just grew within her. ’Definitely the fifth wheel.’ The idea to just get up and excuse herself kept replaying in her head. So much that she knew it was only a matter of time before the words actually came out of her mouth. Then she felt hands on her shoulders and a familiar voice.

Smiling slightly when he kissed her on the check, Skylar felt a huge part of the worry she had been feeling lift off her shoulders. The worry was still there but she was better able to handle it now that Scott was there. Once he took a seat by her, she smiled at him and gently put her hand on his knee to try and convey how grateful she was to him. She couldn’t say it out loud but she mouthed ‘Thank you’ to him. She really owed him for doing this for her. Then she realized that she should introduce him to the others. ”Um..everyone this is Scott. Scott, that’s Alice, Adam, Bella, Jack, and their son.” When she was pointing out Alice and Adam, Skylar had no trouble looking at them while introducing. But when it came to the last three it was a bit more difficult. She couldn’t really look at either of them and it wasn’t like Scott needed to be introduced to Jack but Skylar had no idea how to handle this situation at all. It wasn’t like this was something they taught you in school.
