It was slightly chilly out as Lyra let her self out of the shop and locked the door behind her. It was a cold Sunday after noon and Lyra had been asked to come in that morning to finish updating the books that should have been filled out months ago.
"Damn co workers, all brawn an no brains" she sighed as she finished locking the door and pulled the jacket she had on closer to her body guessing it would probably be best if she hit the store before heading back to her apartment. She was so happy she had been able to find a job so close to her home, it made commuting so much cheaper especially since she could easily walk to work instead of riding a bus or buying gas to ride her motorbike.

It was mostly thanks to her father that she had been able to get the job. She had been reluctant to take it at first. wanting to find a good job on her own terms without his help, but he had been persistant till the end and eventually she ended up taking it mostly cause she had received no offers anywhere else. It had been a good choice from the start, the men and women that worked there were kind an she easily warmed up to the place in no time.

Standing in the gerocery store she did not realize she had picked up one of her fathers favorite snacks until that moment and she sighed as she replaced the item on the shelf. I miss my father she thought finnishing her shopping and heading back to her apartment barely noticing her surroundings until a voice demanded her attention.
"well dear isn't it kind of late to be out on an evening stroll" a man said walking right up to her causing her to step back in reflex. She blinked in surprise as she ended up backed up against a wall and inwardly cursed to herself.
"Oh s**t, don't tell me that is what you say to all the girls you end up trying to rape" she said in responce panicing slightly as she realized he and his cohearts, three other men that were clumped with him in this farily abandoned ally, surrounded her and blocked any means of escape.
"Oh good now that you know what is going to happen we can get strait to the point" he replied with a chuckle as he flashed a pocket knife into view.
"Not a chance" she replied jerking a socket wrench from her back pocket and striking it across his face and then bolted as he staggered. she did not get very far before anotehr man grabbed her and then they knocked her around causing her to see stars when she eventually hit the floor.
"Now that wasnt nice" the man said coming up to her again hand over his cheek that now swelling from her wrench as he straddled her and placed the knife to her throat. "now stay still and i might decide not to slit your throat."

The man stood on the nearby rooftop, watching as the woman walked down the street, he was wearing a leather jacket, a black shirt under it, and black colored jeans. He had a pair of silver dog tags with odd markings on them, hanging from his neck. His long black hair blew lightly with thee wind and his pale white skin was a very pale white, almost gray, like the clouds overhead. His bright yellow eyes followed the woman as she walked into the grocery, waited for her to come out, then hopped along the rooftops after her as she headed home. "She is a really good actor... I wonder what happened after they took me away..." The man mumbled to himself as he jumped with ease across a large gap in the buildings. He followed her until she was approached by another man. He heard the conversation clearly, even though he was several stories above them.

He growled lightly, his yellow eyes burning brightly. He jumped from the roof and landed softly behind the men, not making a sound until he wished his presence be known. "The wicked and the unjust shall perish, but their suffering will endure for eternity in the fiery depths." He said, loudly, getting the attention of the attackers who all turned and stared at the odd looking man. "What the heck do you want buddy? We're busy here!" The man stood where he was and said, "The just and pure shall be saved and bask in the glory of the everlasting light." The men were now even more confused, they looked at each other and said, "Get lost freakshow!" The men pulled out knives and circled the newcomer, who simply sighed and said, "You know, generally when one speaks in paraphrased verses, people have the tendency to be at least a little cautious of them... whatever, how about this?" Vincent looked at the men in front of them and smiled, his grin extending to his ears and exposing razor sharp teeth in a very 'Cheshire Cat' sort of way. He snapped his fingers and a white fire sprang up in the middle of his hand and he said, his voice now much deeper and more demonic sounding, "The wicked will have their punishment, it is as inevitable as their death. I will give you men only one chance. Leave. Now." The men backed off dropping their knives and running away from the demon, even the one on top of the woman ran away. The man sighed and said, in his normal voice, "Silly parlor tricks like that always get rid of those kinda guys." The man shook his head, and his smile and teeth returned to normal, he approached the woman, extended his hand to help her up and asked, nicely, "Are you okay Lyra?" He smiled lightly and his teeth were back to normal, he just looked like a very pale human now.

Lyra had caught sight of the man as the others ran. what the hell was that? she thought wondering if she had really seen the smile and fire in his hand. and although she was grateful the other men had vanished she panicked as he approached her. It would not have been the first time she had fled from the frying pan only to end up in the fire, "No" she said scrambling back and shaking her head. "S-stay away" she was shaking slightly as her hand scrambled to find the wrench she had dropped and found a handle of one of the pocket knives. She heard him say her name and felt a chill shiver though her body, "how do you know my name?" she said clenching the handle, if he came closer to her she would strike and try her best to run. home was the best place she could be right now, her employer be damned if he wanted her to work another Sunday alone again, why the hell did she have to end up in such terrifying situations like this all the time.

The man frowned when Lyra pulled a knife on him instead of taking his hand. He held up his hands and stood where he was and said, "Lyra, come on. Now isn't the time for joking. It's me, James." James smiled lightly, but still didn't attempt to approach Lyra. Why was she doing this? Didn't she remember him? "Lyra, come on, you saved my life a month ago... don't tell me you forgot. I spent a whole week staying with you, you hid me from the hunters remember?" James was smiling lightly, hoping that Lyra was just joking and she'd cut it out soon. The hunters had been after him for a while and was injured, Lyra saved him and took care of him, until the hunters found them both and took James back with them. James lowered his left hand and reached into his pocket and pulled out a small ring. He held it in his open hand and said, "You gave this to me... it was your father's... Tell me... do you still wear your necklace with the small golden hourglass on it?" The golden hourglass was a gift that James had given to Lyra, and she had given him her father's ring in return. James had fought the hunters very, very hard to keep the gift with him.

She held the knife in front of her watching him as he moved back. he had been with her for a week? what was he talking about. "I probably would have remembered you if i had been with you for a week" she said still shaking, but feeling a little better since he had backed off. "Please just go away, i wanna go home" she said and watched his hand till he pulled out a ring. "that cant be!" she said wanting to see it better but not sure if she could trust him. slowly she stood keeping the knife in her hand while she took a closer look at her fathers old promise ring. It should have been locked away in her safe with all her important papers and memoirs, yet here it was in this strange mans hand.

Panicing that some one might have broken into the safe she ran from the alley way back to her apartment, clamored to her room and checked her closet for the box. it was untempered, nothing missing except the ring. breathing for a moment she could feel the ghost touch of a chain on her neck and when she went to touch it she found nothing there. There was much more important files in this box than just the ring so she wondered if she did give it to the man. if so why could she not remember, and why all of a sudden was she felling a chain around her neck when she had never before worn a necklace?

James called after Lyra when she ran off, "Lyra! They're still after us! We-" James cut himself off, it was obvious she wasn't listening. He sighed and put the ring back in his pocket, and followed after her. "How could she have forgotten all about everything? Even the necklace..." The man walked down the street, passing by people who almost, but didn't quite notice him. It was almost as though he was invisible, but if you looked out of the corner of your eye you could see him, and the moment you looked he was gone again. He sighed and looked over his shoulder every so often as he followed Lyra to her apartment. He took the stairs up, stopping outside her room and knocking lightly, saying, "Lyra? If you can hear me, can you let me in? I promise I won't hurt you." James stood outside her door for a bit, waiting for Lyra to either open the door or tell him to go away. If she told him to leave, he might just have too, he was running out of time and the perception filter was already losing power. The two of them needed to leave, quickly, or else the hunters would find the both of them again and... "The hunters! They did this.... they must have performed a memory wipe on her and took back all the evidence that I even existed... the memories should still be locked inside her head somewhere..." James knocked on the door again, a bit more urgent this time, "Lyra, come on. We don't have much time, there are people after us and I don't wanna hafta come through the window again."

She clutched the box to her chest and jumped when she heard a knock on the front door. First she finds out she has lost all recollection of an entire week of her life and possibly one of the most important people of her life time and now she is informed that people are chasing her? these thoughts were overwhelming as she sat there on the floor next to her bed tears beginning to stream from her eyes. she began to miss her father even more. "Go away, please stop scaring me like this!" she shouted down the hall "Please i just want to go back to my normal life" she said burying her head into the papers, he could keep the ring with him if he wanted to, it had obviously meant something to him what had happened, but this was all to much for her, could all this happen in one week? she did not find it possible, it only happened in stories the kind of love that would have made her give his fathers ring to another man.

James sighed and looked over his shoulder again, not that there was anyone that was behind him in the apartment stairwell. He frowned and said to Lyra through the door, "Look, I know this is frightening, but the people after us won't let you go back to your normal life, even if I leave! Now I can help you, but you have to let me in." What James wasn't telling her, was that there was a spell on her apartment, it was similar to the idea that a vampire couldn't enter someone's home without being invited in. James had made the spell work the same way; Lyra had to open the door and let him in so he could enter. He couldn't force his way in, if he did, the spell would break and then there would be nothing protecting the apartment. James looked at his watch, thirty minutes until all hell broke loose. The two of them needed to be far away from this place when the storm decided to hit. James had left something in Lyra's house, a way out if things went bad, like they were going now. James needed what was in her house if either of them were going to get out of this alive and in one piece.

Lisening she moved from her room to the living room and stood behind the door. if he wanted in so badly he would have broken down the door. "Why would they want me so bad, i haven't done anything wrong" she replied leaning against the door. "It sounds like you are the one running, what did you do to make people want you bad enough to take a random stranger off the streets?" she stayed by the door where she was, how typical of her to fall for a fugitive, her luck was always making her life interesting. absent minded her hand went to a trinket that would have hung from her neck if she was wearing a necklace, and she huffed in frustration as she realized what she was doing.

James sighed and replied to Lyra, hoping she would just let him in, "No, you haven't. The only thing you're guilty of is having a good heart..." James realized how corny that sounded and decided to just tell the truth, "And you sorta... harbored an innocent fugitive from a corrupt organization with the sole purpose of hunting mythological creatures..." James paused and let his hasty explanation sink in before he continued, "Just let me in, and I'll explain everything. But we need to get the hell out of here before they catch up, otherwise they won't be satisfied just wiping your memory... They'll try to kill you. And I don't want that to happen." James looked at his watch again, they still had roughly a little more than twenty five minutes. He started tapping his foot impatiently and looked over is shoulder again, still looking at nothing in particular behind him. All Lyra had to do was let him in and everything would hopefully work out.

Wiping her memory? Mythological creatures? was this even possible? she thought back to the time she had first seen him, perhaps that is why i cant remember she thought and reached for the handle. "well that makes me feel much better" she said now not wanting to open the door at all, "you said i harbored an innocent fugitive?' she opened the door a small amount to take a look at him this time. "I'm assuming said fugitive is in deeper trouble for escaping the organization, causing deep s**t for me who broke the law in the first place for aiding said fugitive?" she watched his face for a moment before sighing and letting him in. "what the hell else do i have to lose, she said as she left the door to open and retreated to her couch to and collapsing into the pillows. Why was she so surprised by the turn of events she had taken. Bad luck seemed to follow her like the stray animals that followed her everywhere she went. "Food in the fridge, bathroom down the hall, but id assume you would know this already since you say you have been here already."
PostPosted: Mon Mar 21, 2011 12:45 am

James sighed in relief and moved inside, closing the door behind him and looking around. "It's okay, I know where everything is, but it won't matter. If we're not out of the city in about... twenty four minutes, we're both just going to be cosmic dust. Not to scare you or anything." James moved through the house, grabbing what they would need, food, toiletries, essentials for surviving on the road. Once he had all that set, he headed into the bedroom, knowing exactly where to look for the object. He moved to the corner of the room and placed his hand on the floor, to which the floor responded by lifting a few of the planks up to reveal a hidden compartment. In the compartment was a small ornate box, and in box was a small golden cylinder with a fancy engraved handle and a small nameplate that went around the base of the cylinder, reading, "Celestia" James smiled and put the golden cylinder in his pocket, looking around for anything else they might need.

Looking at his watch as he walked out into the living room, James said, "Fifteen minutes. Come on Lyra, we've gotta get down to the street and get our ride. Help me get the bags." James extended a hand to help Lyra up out of the couch cushions. Despite the urgency, James still looked relaxed and slightly carefree. In the back of his mind, he was worried, and if they didn't hurry, they weren't gonna be around to worry about things.

Even though she did not want to care any more, she could not help but watch him curiously as he walked through her small apartment seeming to know where everything he needed was. she had been about to protest when he walked into her room moving to get off the couch and follow before he reappeared out or her room after placing something in his pocket. "What wait, fifteen minutes? till what?" she stared at him as he reached a hand out to her again, what did she think she was. "I'm not prepared to leave!" she said standing, but she still obliged grabbing the bags that he had managed to collect before following him out of her apartment after she managed to lock the door, "what about my stuff? will it all be there when i get back?" she asked, it really wasn't the kind of thing to think about at the moment, but it was all really to unreal to comprehend at the moment so some thing needed to make sense.
PostPosted: Mon Mar 21, 2011 1:19 am

James headed down the stairs quickly, replying to Lyra's question by saying, "I'll tell you what happens when when we get out of here. Your stuff will be right where you left it." James hurried out of the apartment building and stood on the sidewalk, facing out to the street. Setting the bags down next to him, he looked up at the cloudy gray sky and then back down at the ground. He held the small golden object in his hand and pressed down on a button on the side. The wind picked up, blowing leaves everywhere. The clouds swirled into a vortex, just above where James was standing. Lightning flashed as the storm started, and a black metal object fell out of the vortex. It fell out of the sky at about the speed of an Oldsmobile would, landing solidly with a loud crash, right in front of James. James extended his hand and placed it on top of the large rectangular cube of black metal. Light escaped his hand and the metal glowed slightly with it. The rectangular box of metal slowly started to form into something else, the metal bending and shifting into different shapes and started forming what appeared to be a black Rolls-Royce Phantom, with intricate spiral metal trim down the side and what sounded like a supercharged engine. James smiled and opened the door, tossing the bags he had into the backseat and getting in quickly, placing his hands on the steering wheel. He looked out the window and said to Lyra, ”Put the bags in the back and get in, quickly!”

When she got in the car, the engine roared to life, without James even touching the ignition and James said, placing his hand on the dashboard, ”I missed you too girl. Now let’s get out of here!” James stepped on the gas and the car immediately started moving, James turned the car out onto the main road and the car sped forward, hitting close to 100 miles per hour. James looked at his watch again, five minutes left; they had to make it to the city limits in five minutes or less. James sighed and placed his hand back on the dashboard, saying, ”Take over for me girl, I need to explain a few things to Lyra.” The engine roared in response and James let the car go on its own. He looked to Lyra and said, ”I know you’re shocked confused and afraid, we went through this the first time we met. All I’m asking is for you to trust me, and do whatever I tell you to do, okay?“ James looked at his watch again; three minutes left.

Lyra barely comprehended what happened as she watched James do some intriguing work with a gold stick a block and suddenly she stared wide eyed at the 2003 Rolls Royce that appeared out of no where."you have to be shitting me" she squeaked looking at one of the most expensive vehicles she had hoped to ever come across in her life time. the engine roared and she stared in slight confusion as James rushed her to get into the car. tossing the bags into he back seat she followed them quickly and shut the door just as the car took off and she struggled to sit up in the seat correctly. the vehicle reached an average velocity and soon Lyra was able to relax after she found she was no longer stuck to the seat.

Regaining her composure she looked at James finding him looking back at her instead of the road. "i wish i had one of these" she said looking up into his golden eyes and feeling her heart skip a beat."so your saying if you tell me to jump off a bridge i have to correct?" she retorted and shook her head, with what had just happened recently it would not surprise her if he eventually told her to jump off a bridge. "Tell me what you did, tell me why these people are chasing you and in effect are after me, but why only me, and why would they want you so bad!" she had not been overly satisfied with his last answer to that question, and she did not want to think her life was still on the line because she had ended up opening her home up to some murderous freak that would probably toss her eventually just to save his own a**, for all she knew right now she could be his hostage.
