The fog was still thick, but they were on the mountain, Calder wandering in from where he thought Christof was only to return to the same spot. It seemed that whatever was happening, it was out of his control to do so. While dragon guy and Riley talked, Calder looked about, pacing a bit as he tried to figure out where to head off into next, wanting to find Christof. He didn't hear or smell him at all, and that bothered him. This dead silence.
He didn't tell anyone what he was doing when he walked off, and headed back into the fog. Telling Riley or her friend that he'd be right back meant that they cared, which they didn't. Riley probably hoped he got kidnapped and diced into bite-siezed bits to feed to the reaper's dogs – which he was sure they had.
It was some time in the smog, trying to hold on to various twigs and such as he went down a small slope. Going up was okay for his hooves, but going down was a bigger problem. He crouched low and moved down until he came to some field. Grass? So he must be somewhere in a valley or back on the bottom of the mountain. They didn't go very far after all. "Christof?" He called out, but heard nothing. He continued to move and paused when he smelled it. Water.
Turning, he remembered Christof saying something about fishing, and went off to do just that. Maybe he could find his friend and if not. He could catch some fish. Seemed it was urgent before. He still didn't understand why and why it stopping being. Personally, he was a bit hungry.
Moving over, he felt the fog roll off still waters and was glad at least he could still sense water. It was a shallow lake, but it was stocked with fish. Smiling, he stepped into the water, before looking about. "CHRISTOF?!!" He called, but he didn't hear some garbled noise of a response or feel someone hit him. That was the problem too. Christof couldn't speak. How was he supposed to be heard?
Well, at least he could fish and show he could do something. As he moved in the water, he paused and looked around. Well, he WAS alone and if he fished, he would be missing with barbs. Reaching up, he unbuttoned his jacket, tossing that over on the shore and then his shirt followed. His scarf remained on, and he took the tail end of the scarf and tossed it over his shoulder. Tearing a piece of the scarf off, he used a bit of cloth to tie his hair up, and then bent down, working to catch a few fish. Despite the pin buzzing at him to step away from the water, it wasn't terribly deep and he wasn't covered in it and hunger was higher on his list right now. Alone, his eyes darkened as he let his fingertips slip into the water, thinking of something to grip, to kill, and to eat.

Riley was usually the kind of person to want to keep people grouped or in teams. Unfortunately, with Malodore still missing from the fog, she was a little.. off. She wanted some time alone, and this would be the perfect chance to get it. She wandered down a different path, disappointed at how little she could see as she traveled.
She found the edges of a shallow lake start to lip at her feet, and looked down at the water. It reminded her briefly of the ocean they had been swimming in during their boat trip.. and the fish within it..
She was still a bit peckish, after all. A few fish might be exactly what she needed. Plus, she did enjoy a nice swim. And she was still in her bathing suit, after all. This was enough to convince her to flick her shoes off, and peel her jacket and pants off of her body. She stuffed all of this into her backpack, and hid it behind a rock.
A nice swim would do her a world of good.
She waded into the water, heading for the deeper middle as quickly as possible. That's where the fish would be, after all..

His mind rolled in waves, focused on the task. It had been forever since he hunted. Since he ate fresh fish he caught. The woods here reminded him of home. The thick rolling fog. The wild, unknown nature. The slow lake with its moving wildlife. It wasn't a swamp or a river, but it had it's similarities enough to lull him into a sweet state of thought.
Eyes dark green, he stayed in the more shallow end, moving step by step and leaving the lake to drop a fish on the shore and also to take a break. Being in the water, even a little, was hard. Despite distance and no teachers about, the pin was persistent. Still, he dipped his hooves back into the water and moved.
With the fog so thick, it was hard to hear anything, the sound absorbed almost instantly. It was the ripples that causes his ear to twitch. It was big…and it moved fast. He wondered if he should step away in case it was a large predator, but he was feeling rather frisky with being cooped up in a ship for weeks.
He rose up, a fish in hand, and moved forward, the water rising up his slender legs. As he moved into the water, he waited, watching, silent, and the figure started to move towards him. It was the smell that caught him first. Sweet nectar, like rotting, spring flowers. A heavy perfume with water. Then it was color and shape. Strong arms and powerful, a curve of the back, a tight swimsuit that accented but didn't steal from the imagination, and then muscular yet slender legs.
The fish in his palm flapped to get free, but he held firm, debating. It was certainly a much bigger catch.

The first thing Riley did as soon as she reached the middle of the lake, was to begin the process of becoming as still as possible. Her tentacles floated out away from her, the perfect lures to a playful or curious fish. She wasn't even breathing, simply so bubbles wouldn't come from her tentacles as they lay in wait.
She was the perfect bait. Unfortunately, she didn't realize she was baiting something much more dangerous than fish.
There. One shining, beautiful fish was inching closer, entranced by the slow moving tentacle that floated helplessly in the water. It looked like a delicious worm, and so colorful to boot - how could it resist.
She waited..
And waited..
Just as it nibbled at the tip of her tentacle, the other tentacles whipped out around the fish, wrapping it up like a spiderweb. It had no room to thrash, it was surrounded so tightly. She pulled the tentacles up above water, and let out an exhale.
It was at that moment that she suddenly felt a shiver down her back. She turned her head slightly, looking to the shore that she had left her backpack. There was nothing there. Her head swiveled around to look at the opposite shore, and a dark form presented itself. Was someone watching her?
She couldn't reach out without seeing the person first, so she couldn't speak - all she could do was keep her gaze locked on whoever it was. It seemed familiar..

Power was dangerous and enticing. When looking for food, you had to realize what you could take on, fight, force down, and kill. Small animals were child's play and easy to handle. They couldn't wrap their arms about him and drag him down unless they were much larger creatures. Some kelpies, for glory and bragging rights, did just this. It was like punching the biggest, baddest guy at a tough bar to land the ghoul or taking a pair of fangs from a sea beast as a trophy to hang above your mantle and brag about to your friends and then your future children.
That was a bit far ahead for the 14 year old, but adolescent instincts were still there, rather hard to control at his age. He had been taking lessons with Sin. The mark of which was clear upon his chest over his heart. The shape, ironically, was a heart as well, and the one inside was racing fast.
When it came to power, there was something intoxicating in the danger of a bigger catch. While looking Riley over, making notes of muscle, seize, and potential hazards, there was a sense of admiration. Like watching a tiger or zombified bear stalking through some dark forest.
His tail flicked as he watched, and then he pressed his fingernail right into the fish he held, killing it before tossing it to the shore and moving in. He killed in many ways, but the methods were simple. Lure, attract, pull in and then when the time was right, show your true nature. That was the basis of his family's fear. Riley had always been a strong person .Intelligence aside, he had seen her at track, running, and knew she had strength. It meant her struggle would be much more intense. She was a fighter.
The water rippled as he moved in, though his ears flicked at the annoyance of the water around him. It prickled up his spine and made his insides turn to be in so much water. Still, his eyes where set on her. He took non-drowning lessons with Sin to prevent this, but hat was to keep himself out of a hunting, drowning-wanting state. It was much harder to do when already in one, and unlike his lessons with Sin, they were both in the water.
"What a catch. You'd make a great trophy." His voice was accented, a slip of Scottish that he rarely let out. With his voice, his expression was just as strange. He actually seemed….pleased to see her.

It had become clear, at some point, that the figure coming towards her was the one and only figure she did not want to see. Ever. It had to be Calder, inching into the water with her, didn't it? She brought the fish down and twisted it's head off, throwing the body at the kelpie in a disinterested fashion. Her tentacle slid into the disembodied head, making quick work of the meal.
At first, she was just annoyed that Calder was about to ruin her relaxing swim. She went from annoyed to angry in a split second when she heard his voice, however.
Did he actually just call her a catch? A TROPHY? HER?
Her eyes flashed red for a moment, before breathing in deeply to relax.
Calder, stop talking out of your a** and go back to camp before I pick you up and throw you there myself. She growled, dipping back down into the water to wait for another fish.
He'd better not muck around her fishing area too long, she'd never catch fish if he did.

He let the fish body hit him, falling to his bare chest and into the water. It only enticed the fish who were not at all wary of seeing a body of one of their schoolmates now floating on the water. It was dinner for them – and soon, Calder could hope of catching his own slippery , little fish.
He moved in the water, and soon had to kick his hooves to keep afloat, but only barely. He could sleep under water, holding his breath for endless hours, and he sank now, eyes above the water, deep and intense as they rested on her, and moved over. He knew he could speak directly to her without words. If she so loved to invade his mind, he would take the same pleasure in trespassing hers, and her space.
Always one for a fight, aren't you? I wouldn't mind a little play. The fish didn't scatter as he closed the distance between her, though he felt it hard to concentrate now being so submersed. It wouldn't be long now till he found being in the water unbearable, but those were a few precious seconds from now.
Moving in, he slipped under water where the fog couldn't touch them and where he could look directly into the white pearls of her eyes. A hand slipped in the water, finding the curve of her back, and pulled her floating form against him. The fish that puts up the most fight is the one that is the most prized. Already underwater. It was too easy. Just keep her down. That's all there was.
Slowly, he subtracted even what little distance between them there was; bodies already close, to nuzzle his cheek against hers. It was strangely slick, but not otherwise unpleasant.

Although Calder was getting closer, she couldn't help but notice the fish weren't scared of his movement. Damn him and his kelpie ways.. he could probably catch fish without even trying.
Wait.
Wasn't there something about this situation that was impossible? Riley vaguely remembered Malodore mentioning to her that Calder wasn't allowed in the water anymore..
And yet here he was.
She narrowed her eyes, glaring viciously at him from under the water. Though she was fully submerged, several of her tentacles remained above the surface. She breathed normally.
His words enticed her. He wanted to fight? Riley's eyes brightened in lieu of a grin. If that was what this was, she was more than willing to oblige. She'd been desperate to fight someone for days now, and Calder was the perfect target. Yet, as he neared her, she didn't feel like he was taking on a fighting stance. Her own claws rose up, but she faltered - why did he look so calm and .. something else. She couldn't place it.
Calder, she murmured hesitantly as she put her arms down. What's wrong with you? You're acting like-
Her body froze in horror. Was he holding her- was he NUZZLING HER? Riley's stomach churned violently.
Are you out of your MIND? She barely managed to squeak out in shock. She was still too stunned to do anything about his advances.

Yes, and happily wandering in yours... His rebuttals were quick, and the time limit was up. Tick tick DONE! The pin was more than tearing apart his concentration, making any sort of focus for hunting impossible, but it was the shout, that cry out in his mind from Riley's that really jolted him.
It wasn't amnesia. He remembered it all. Oh, how he could instantly recall all manner of events, all sensations, and all ideas that met to the point where he jerked his head back from otherwise giving the kelpie equivalent of a kiss, and looked wide-eyed at the ghoul. His fingers unhinged from her back, and he started to float back.
Fuses blew out.
Gears in his mind jerked to a standstill.
His body went COLD.
On to ----Off
The fist about his scattered as if alarmed, and Calder rose up to the surface, breathing out before he gave a shiver. HE TOUCHED HER! EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNCLEAN! UNCLEAN!!
Mentally scared for a lifetime, the kelpie turned and started to head for shore. Out of the water. Out! OUT! OUT!

There was something in those last words that made Riley realize Calder wasn't thinking clearly. In fact, if she didn't know better, she was sure he was..
No. That was ridiculous. And disgusting. And he was- still nuzzling her.
Her tentacles heaved as they threatened to expel. He was trying to seduce her.
Almost exactly when she realized it, he suddenly pulled away and rose to the surface. She stayed bobbing where she was, staring with a wide and horrified gaze at the retreating form.
What. What had just. What was even.
Only good thing came of all of this. She wasn't hungry anymore. In fact.. she was pretty sure she would never be able to eat again.

He didn't continue. He hadn't been persistent as he had been before to drown someone. He didn't remain or even look back. Maybe it was the pin. Maybe it was someone shouting at him and, thsi time, being far more receptive to stop himself than just ignoring it. Who knew. What he did know was that he wasn't sticking anywhere close to where he had been before. No. Calder swam to the shore, marching up when it was shallow enough, and shivered up and down the entire time as he walked up, drenched, on shore. He needed land and far away from ....HER... as possible. His brain was scarred. UGH! He wanted to tear his cheek off. WHY?! WWWWHHHYYY did she have to be the one in the water when he was hungry? Then again, how well would it have gone if it was someone else. ALL of the members of his group would have been bad, but HER?!!
He shook down a shiver of revulsion once again before he looked around for the rest of his clothes. He wanted to bolt.
OH JACK CANDLES! Where was his shirt?!!!

Her frozen state didn't last long. She shook herself thoroughly from head to toe, and began a backpedal to head towards the other end of the shore, where her backpack was.
That didn't just happen.
The fog was just playing with their minds, right?
That had to be the case. It had to. Because Calder didn't just -
She grabbed her backpack, disregarding the idea of getting dressed again, and just stormed out of the area as quickly as she could.
Nothing happened. That's all. She just went for a swim, had a snack, and definitely did not just-
...
Nothing happened.
