Sorry for the rubbish title. This links to the 'When the Aliens come to Town' rp. Posts made for this rp which are in the other one will be transferred here ASAP.
29/04/2011: Changed the date to 1910. Torchwood wasn't created until 1879. The previous date for this rp was too early.

The Story So Far...
The Doctor was running back and forth in the TARDIS pressing buttons, twisting levers, and generally looking like he knew exactly what he was doing. The TARDIS was shaking violently and he could hear things falling in some of the rooms around him. Was that... a splash he had heard? Well, that'd teach him to put the swimming pool so close to the library!
"Eh? What's wrong with you?" The Doctor asked as he tweaked a few more setting. "Land you to get a bit to eat and you're all, look at me! I'm going to disappear." He said, his voice going high and squeaky towards the end. As the ship stabilized and stopped shaking, the Doctor smiled, "There, that's better now isn't it?" He checked a few more settings, "Hmmm, 1910, why'd we come here?" the Doctor checked, using his instruments to see what was going on, but could find nothing.
With a disappointed frown, he set the time back to where he had disappeared from and hit the lever to go. He smiled as he heard the familiar wheezing and grating sound. It was music to his ears! When he arrived, he checked his suit and threw on his coat. He needed to find Arwen and just wanted to have a walk around Cardiff to see what was what. When the door opened and he stepped outside, he glanced around with a light grin on his face before stepping out into the cool air. As he took his first look around, he frowned before stepping back into the TARDIS and closing the door for a moment before reopening it and stepping outside and looking around.
"What?" He asked nobody in particular with an indignant look on his face. The Doctor was about to re-enter the TARDIS and try again when he heard a scream off in the distance. It seemed like getting back to Cardiff would have to wait for now, he had a mystery to solve and a screamer to find! The Doctor closed and locked the door before taking off down the street. The buildings around him were of a late 1700's style, built close together. As he ran, he noticed track marks in the dirt. "Horse drawn carriages... how quaint." He said before coming across a group of people standing in a circle.
"Excuse me, I'm The Doctor." He said as he squeezed through them to find what he assumed to be the screamer. She was a young, buxom blonde woman. She could not have been older than eighteen or nineteen. He crouched next to her to have a closer look.
"Eh? Just what do you think you're doing?" a young man said and moved to pull the Doctor back. "You can't do anything, she's 'ood as dead she is." The Doctor's eyebrows bunched as he turned to look back at her, "I'm The Doctor, she's not dead yet!"
A well-dressed gentlemen hurried forward as he ordered some of the ones following to get the audience away. "Don't let them see this!"
He then knelt beside the woman. "We maybe able to help her." He turned his face up to the man as he cried out, "I'm the Doctor, she's not dead yet!"
"How would you know she is not dead yet, Enemy of the Crown?!" he glowered as recognition of this fellow occurred to him. He heard people around him gasping in shock and murmurs of gossip starting as they finally dispersed. He could deal with the gossip later. He had Queen and Country to protect right now
"You save the world and the Queen once and you get labeled an enemy of the crown I see how it is." The Doctor muttered. That was in a previous incarnation, how did this man even know? Oh, right. It really was about that time wasn't it? The Doctor pulled a a leather covered billfold from his pocket and flashed it at what he assumed could only be a Torchwood member. He liked the organization a whole lot more when it was ran by Captain Jack... But no use worrying now.
"I'm not sure what Doctor you are talking about." the Doctor said as he flashed the psychic paper, "I am Doctor Smith, John Smith."
The Doctor looked down at the young woman in front of them. "She's not breathing..." He set her down and placed two hands on her diaphragm and compressed twice before attempting the rest of the CPR motions.
The man, Edward John, leader of Torchwood, looked at the credentials which seemed correct but they were whipped away before he could ask anything. He watched the man starting some odd actions then smiled as a woman hurried up to him, handing him what looked to be a futuristic gun. "Ah thank you Elizabeth. Get ready."
He then turned to the woman on the ground. "Out of the way Doctor Smith." He then fired the gun at the woman's stomach and she began convulsing then a black octopus-like creature forced it's way out before beginning to slither away. Elizabeth took off after it, leaving Edward with Doctor Smith.

The Doctor stepped back in surprise as he watched the tentacled alien literally ooze out of the now dead woman's mouth. He frowned in apparent indignation as he did not enjoy being surprised. Not one bit. But what was a cephalopod doing here on earth and how had Torchwood gained so much power so quickly? The Doctor's mind raced as he tried in vain to make a connection that just was not there yet.
"That was...." The Doctor said as he pointed after the running girl, "Absolutely crazy! What's a thing like that doing in a woman like her?" The Doctor asked and pointed down at the dead woman. He grimaced and looked down, "Well aside from the obvious..."

Edward looked to the man, wondering if he should allow him to join the group in this venture or to send him away. They were looking for one more to join their number... Upon hearing the crazy comment, he grimaced. Perhaps keeping this internal would be best now. "Of little concern for you Doctor Smith, now kindly leave this to myself and my team." Turning his back on him, he began hurrying after Elizabeth and hoped Mary and James had gotten in front to catch the slimy little bugger.

Meanwhile, in a alley not so far away, Jack Harkness appears in a flash of light. "Ughhh, I have GOT to stop using those time bending watches..." Shaking the weakness off, he walked out onto the street, with one goal. Find The Doctor.

The Doctor had not bothered to chase after the Torchwood member. He had a fair idea of where the alien was going. It did after all require water and the largest and easiest to reach was the bay a few blocks away. He would track it down later. Right now, he really really wanted to see what that flash of light had been down the alley a ways. The Doctor smiled and nodded to the people that were still around them before making his way out of the circle and towards the alley.

Jack fiddled desperately with his watch, "Right, this should find the TARDIS." he muttered to himself. He ran after the signal.

"Jack?!" The Doctor called out in surprise. He had not expected the man to be here. not when he had repeatedly turned off the time jumping ability of his watch. The Doctor could see the man running towards him in the alley way and reached out to stop him. "Nice to see you again, Jack. Now, what are you doing here then?" As they spoke, the Doctor palmed his sonic screwdriver and changed the settings on it while he still held it hidden away from view.

"Not identifiable? It's a cephalapod inhabiting the bodies of the humans in the area." The Doctor turned, looking around the alley for a few moments before clicking his sonic screwdriver on and looking around again. He checked it, "Nope, no Alien Technology in the area except for you." The Doctor said, "So you came here hoping to what, Jack? Find out what was going on to stop it or were you hoping to add it to Torchwood's collection, hmmm?"

"The benefit of all mankind or the benefit of the select few that know it exists?" The Doctor asked. As he finished talking, he started walked down a side alley. "Come on, Jack. If I know my cephalapods, and believe you me, I know my cephalapods, it is going to be heading towards the largest body of water in the area. That's probably where its ship is which is where we need to be."

OoC: Sorry about dropping out of the rp. Been a bit busy.
Edward slowed as he caught up to his team and saw that Mary was covered in James' coat. She appeared to have fallen into the river beyond. "James? Mary?" he asked concerned. "She'll be okay," James said quickly just as Mary opened her mouth, "I think Elizabeth has found something though." He indicated the edge of the water where Edward saw Elizabeth stood, peering into the water curiously. He left Mary to James' care and came up behind Elizabeth, who was now drawing something onto a pad of paper. "Elizabeth?" "We followed the creature here where it appears to have jumped into the water. Look there." She pointed to a place where the water was about knee deep. "There's something metallic down there. I think it could be the creatures transportation." "Or someone's bicycle," Edward added with a smile.

The Doctor turned his head a bit and bit back what could only have been a sarcastic remark before pushing Jack down a side alley. "This way, Jack. We're headed towards the water. If you're lucky, you will get to meet some of your legacy members in Torchwood. Founding fathers so to speak if you were an American."
They rushed down the narrow alleys, their footfalls echoing ahead of them and behind them as they ran towards the water. Soon the alley emptied out into a wide street. Just on the other side of the street, The Doctor could see the town lights and moon reflected off the water. "Ah, here we go... now, if I were an underwater race... where would I hide?"
