ORP: THE JOURNEY TOThis thread is an ORP for those taking the cornfields!
If you'd rather, you can create a PRP thread in this subforum to travel this path as well! You can also switch between the two! For PRPs, you still must follow the announcement thread prompts, and you will still face battles!

The journey: Day two
Walking along the cornfields path seems like a walk along Moonlight hill. The fog seems a lot less threatening, allowing a decent line of vision for the average student, and the path itself is very even, if not gently descending on a downwards slope. Around the path lie some simple natural structures: large rocks, stones, and the occasional sparse tree that encompass the otherwise uniform landscape.
Though the question really was: what did students expect to find in the corn fields?

He felt bad for not leaving his friend without a 'goodbye', but the way Christof had been by Riley this entire time since coming to the ship upset him. A lot of things had accumulated to this point to make lots of things clear. Calder was not even close to having the type of …whatever it was…that Christof and Riley had. Before the trip, Christof had that mark on him from Riley that he had yet to talk to her about. When Calder tried to be comforting when he barged into Barth's room, he nearly got punched and was given the cold shoulder. Now, after being on a boat, the boil tried to hit him, and then cried over RILEY! He didn't care. It was clear. Calder was fooling himself to think he had a best friend. When Christof saw Riley, they hugged and he was excited. There had been no excitement over seeing Calder alive. He kept helping Christof, asking how he was doing, but there weren't any signs of that back. Maybe that picture in art class was a fluke.
Ears down and quiet, Calder was following behind Barth. He didn't say anything. Really, he wondered why he was following Barth. The only reason he knew the demon and was through Christof. He even had that damn demon's mark, his first ever, to get Christof some clothes for the dance. Clothes that were now ruined. Christof didn't care. He was so selfish and cruel and mean.
Reaching up, he used the back of his shirt sleeve to wipe his eyes, having lost his jacket. He wished Fester was here. He wanted a friend.

Barth did not ask about the sniffling behind him. There was apparently a lot of crying going on this trip. He decided to handle it in the most considerate way possible, which was by ignoring it completely.
The path down to the Cornfield was a gentle slope. No danger, no mountains, no unfriendly-looking eyes staring from underneath sharp rocks.
Following Barth was, fortunately, an easy task. He set a crawling pace.
"Fog's starting to clear," Barth said. "Doesn't look like too many students or err, things other than students have been down this way. Reminds me a bit of...err," what did it remind him of?
Up ahead were the rows of cornstalks.
Barth paused at the edge.
It would be easier to hide. Easier to get lost, too, but he wasn't in any hurry. And they might find something interesting while they were in there. Abandoned farm equipment? Something he could use, maybe? The further they got from the fog, the stronger he felt. His first aid kit was beginning to get damp, but not in a seawater kind of way, but in a pleasantly sticky sort of way.
"You said you'd done a bit of farming, didn't you? At home."

"You said you'd done a bit of farming, didn't you? At home." A mysterious hooded figure has been watching the student's actions all this time. Out of nowhere the seemingly fade from the fog right in front of your student, grabbing them away from the others. Your student is being attacked! Damage to Barth: 2dmgHP: 9

Barth found himself being dragged into the rows. He pushed the empty (but now sticky) first aid kit behind him, giving whoever was dragging him a distractingly gooey patch on their outfit. Ropes of slime strung between the fabric and the kit as he pulled it back.
"There's err, more where that came from... It will probably get everywhere. Please let me go."

HP: 23 Damage: 1 There is no explanation for their actions, they move quickly and efficiently, swinging forward with their scythe. However they trip a bit on their robes and fail to hit. Damage to Barth: 0HP: 8

Damage to Barth: 0HP: 8 Barth waited uneasily for a reply. A weapon buzzed just clear of his horns instead. Was that a scythe?
"Alright," Barth said hoarsely. "I did say please."
He looped the slimy first aid kit's straps around his hand, then sent kit, slime, and clawed fingers straight into the cloaked figure's stomach.

Damage to Barth: 0HP: 1 He withdrew with a squelching sound, the scythe whizzing past again, then shook out his claws. The goo splattered like dog drool.
Not very talkative, was he? ...She. It?
"Sorry about this," Barth said.
Barth drooped, then gripped the kit in both claws, swinging it upwards and aiming for a half-hearted uppercut.

Christof had run part of the way, but then had dissolved into a slow walk as he caught his breath. As the fog had cleared, a long field of rustling gold in the moonlight unfolded in front of him, and he paused to check his supplies. The pendant, he kept in his bag for now, not wanting it to fall off and get lost if he lost his head somewhere along the way... he should have stopped to get Malodore to attach it properly, but haste made waste, and judging by the flickering black figures in the distance, it was good he had hurried- Gone two minutes and already his Master was in trouble!! His hand dove into his pack for his pipe, pausing as something slimy hit his fingers- where had all these fish come from? Ah well, he'd figure that out later.
He found the weapon, hand curling around it as he made to run towards the Kelpie and Sloth and their attacker, but hesitated as he jogged. The rust on the thing seemed to crackle in its reddened patches, twisting into sharp spikes along the end of it. It reminded him of... his arm empowered by Fear. Very odd. No matter- Don't worry, Master! He was coming!

Barth wobbled on his feet, then sat down, exhausted. So much walking. And swinging. At least the dragging had meant less walking. In the long run. And the hoodie had dropped something more interesting than farm equipment.
He didn't want to know what would have happened if the scythe had managed to hit. He was almost as slippery as his first aid kit. He hung his head between his knees, trying to catch his breath.
He also hoped no one had seen that.

Panting himself as he lurched past the Kelpie and Sloth, Christof flailed with his pipe to scare off whatever had.... already left before he had gotten there. Well... well- YES! AND STAY AWAY! He was, in all honesty, very surprised. He turned to crouch at Barth's side, timidly putting a hand on his shoulder to see if he was alright. By the way he looked so winded, was he hurt? If only they had stayed and everyone had traveled together, Master Malodore would have been able to make sure their wounds were at least properly bandaged...
He had had no idea the Sloth could actually defend himself if need be. That had been the biggest surprise. And somehow gave him confidence in their survival. It meant, at least, he and Calder wouldn't necessarily be doing EVERYTHING... just... probably most things. He glanced up at the Kelpie to make sure he was alright as well, brows raising as he gingerly pointed. But Calder did not seem happy to see him. Deflated, he glanced down again, flushing a bit as he returned his attentions to his Master.

It didn't take much time for Tybalt to catch up with the others. In fact, it took less time than he would have imagined. Then again, Barth was leading the way... meaning that an old lady could keep his pace without breaking a sweat. Not that he'd complain. It was fortunate for him that they were moving this slowly. He had been lagging behind the two for quite some time, due to the pain in his head and hadn't felt like moving any faster. At least not until the pain died away a little.
Which thankfully, it had. After leaving the area where they were attacked, he felt the pain begin to ebb away and though it was still present, it felt like nothing more than a nagging headache now. Even the fog was clearing up; making their path easily seen, as well as most of their surroundings.
It seemed... peaceful... Had he chosen the safest route? Then again, was there even such a thing?
Unfortunately, there wasn't. Not too long after he asked himself this question, did he see a flash of red and another figure appear; dragging the sloth demon a fair distance away from the kelpie before it began to attack. This being enough reason to force the black dog into a lope. A lope that ate as much ground as possible in the shortest amount of time, while wasting the least amount of energy. Energy that he felt was being quickly depleted. Was it like in Christmas town, where their Fear was being drained...? He hoped not.
Thankfully, the sloth demon's opponent appeared to be a bit of klutz; tripping over his own robes and failing to land a hit. Maybe there was no need to worry after all? Barth wasn't exactly a push over either. As lazy as he was, even he could land some powerful blows if he wanted too.
And in fact, he had. Was the battle over already?
"That was fast." He said, as he approached the... three? It looked like that patchwork boil was here now too.
