He was having nightmares again. And this time, when he awoke, drenched in sweat and breathing heavily, there was no one in the room with him.

It made him grumpy. Irrationally so. Where were LW, Alessa, Gabrian, and Jove? Well, the last one usually only came when he was having a bad dream or was frightened by the mimics, so it was probably a good thing that he wasn't here; Ren hated to see the poor boil frightened, not that he ever minded the company at all. Truth be told, he welcomed it, because it made him feel more at ease when there were others in the room with him.

Except this time he was alone, and it was nearing five in the morning. Sitting up in bed, Ren ran a hand through his sleep mussed hair, pushing away the damp strands from his face. He was shirtless, as usual, having grown tired of the way his shirt twisted around him when he attempted to roll over in bed, but he had his usual pawprint pajama bottoms tied loosely around his waist. Slinging his legs over the side of the bed, Ren slipped from the room, padding softly down the hallway.

He wasn't entirely sure LW would even be in her room (and he hoped to high heavens he wouldn't walk in and find a certain nix in there, because that would just be awkward), but either way he would go see his best friend. Down one floor and a few doors over and Ren was slipping silently into the shewolf's room.

Thankfully, his best friend was alone, curled up on the pillow pile that Ren had spent countless nights sleeping on. A small smile crossed his face when he thought of their first meeting, and the fact that he had pretty much passed out right here on her pillow pile. A great start to a great friendship, Ren thought, stepping over to the sleeping ghoul. He carefully and quietly wriggled down beside her, pulling one of the blankets over his bare torso and curled up close, yawning widely. Then, his eyes fluttering shut, he managed to fall asleep at last.

She'd spent a majority of the previous day at the maul. And for once, it hadn't been in the company of one of her closest friends. No this time...she had been with her brothers. They'd called her up and told her that she needed to get her little wolfie butt down to the maul so they could all go see some scary action flick. Of course they wanted their dear baby little sister with them! After about the sixth time she'd jumped and tried to hide behind their arms, they let her accomplish this without holding her down in her seat. LW promised them payback. PAYBACK!

After the movie, they'd goofed around the maul for a few hours and by the time LW had gotten back to school, she was dead tired. She had managed to get in a nice shower before she collapsed onto her pillow pile and fallen asleep earlier than usual. The others wouldn't miss her too much tonight. Hopefully.

She was used to the movements of her minipets, readjusting, snuggling closer, or joining her to sleep after they had stopped sulking in a corner. And it wasn't in any way unusual for one of her friends to sneak in and flop down among the pillow pile either. What first struck her as odd, and started to pull her out of sleep, was the instant recognition of the scent that had grown stronger and surrounded her. The she-wolf would know that scent anywhere. She loved it. The second was the funny feeling being curled up with her best friend sent through her. Why? She had no clue. But it did rouse her. And once she was semi-awake, that was good enough for BB. The mimic (who had been snuggling very cutely against her stomach) decided he wanted to chew on her tail.

"You...pain in my...a**..." LW growled, working to wake up. A returning growl was the response she got from her mimic.

It was probably sad that she was getting used to that particular pain, not that it still didn't sting or anything. With a groan and an attempted flick of her tail to rid herself of the mimic, LW twisted around so she was laying on her back. Which caused her to roll right into the body laying next to her. Very close next to her. She hoped she didn't wake him up on accident, because of usual morning war between herself and Billy Bob. And he's too damn adorable when he sleeps. The thought made her blink and she felt her cheeks light up a little. Well, there was nothing wrong in thinking that! Was there? Gabe was cute when he slept. But...not quite the same.

Maybe she just needed to wake up further. Chase the sleep haze from her mind. Yeah. That was it. Oh and get her jack damned minipet off her tail. "BB!" She half sighed half growled.

Ren did not exactly wake up when LW spoke; more like he could hear her voice, but was too tired to actually pull out of the throes of sleep to open his eyes and see what was going on. There was faint irritation in her words, though they sounded like gibberish to Ren in his half delirious state. There was some shuffling, some more mumbled words, and something warm and furry flopped against his leg.

"Mrrr..." Ren growled sleepily, the sound rumbling in his chest as he scooted closer to the warmth. His forehead pressed against something solid - was that a shoulder? Actually he was pretty sure it was a rather large, LW shaped pillow .He nuzzled into the shewolf-pillow, inhaling her familiar scent and a smile crossed his face. Vanilla and lavender spices mixed with something else, something he couldn't identify, but whatever it was, it smelled nice. Pleasant. Homey-like. Ren liked that. He liked pillows too, especially big, soft, fluffy ones.

Yawning widely, Ren inched even closer, draping an arm over the LW-pillow and hugging it to his chest before letting go and simply draping an arm across the middle of it, settling back into the rest of the pillow pile. He had not known that LW had such a warm and comfortable pillow; it was nice and sturdy too, not too squishy, and just right. Ren's tail flicked upwards, then back down again, flopping on top of the multicolored fabric, his wings curling loosely against his back.

Yes, he liked pillows quite a bit. And sleeping. Sleeping was good. Especially when one had pillows like this to hug.

LW was working up the effort to sit up, so she could try and remove her minipet from her tail. Flicking it hadn't worked, not that she'd actually thought it would. More of a reaction to having something clamp down on her tail. He growled again at her and the she-wolf stared up at the ceiling for a minute, promising to lock up the mimic for a whole day as punishment. If she could catch him. And then another growl rose up. Except this one came from right next to her, the vibrations from it racing along the arm that was pressed more firmly against that chest.

Make that she was pressed more firmly against that warm chest. She froze in her almost non-existent attempts to sit up. A slight glance to her side and pale golden strands were visible. She felt warm breath against her arm and a soft smile graced her lips for a moment. Then turned to an funny expression somewhere between confusion, minor freak out, and a good feeling she couldn't put her finger on. But she'd felt it before around Ren. And Gabe. This made her frown and try to pinpoint what that feeling was, but then was blushing all over again when she was...nuzzled?

OH JACK SO ADORABLE! And then she was quite comfortably being snuggled against, an arm wrapped around her. One very tired gryphon using her as his pillow. LW had to sigh and didn't bother to try and get up now. How could she? There was no way she was going to wake him up now. Even if she felt...how did she feel right now? It was strange...but a good strange. Some feeling she could not put a name to, but she liked it. Maybe more than she should. Which started to make her blush all over again. And debate how easily she could slip away from him. Although the longer she laid there, her best friend cuddled against her, the harder it was becoming for LW to find a reason to move away.

Her first clue that she wasn't going to get a choice about this should have been the lack of gnawing on her tail. BB didn't easily give up her tail unless something else caught his attention. Something equally appealing. She caught the flicker of movement that confused her until she realized it was a tail. Ren's tail. Oh no.

"Billy Bob don't you dare!" She hissed out. Too late, the little mimic had launched himself at Ren's tail. LW did the first thing she could think of. Wrapped her arms around him and roll to the side, trying to move him out of range. And of course, OF COURSE, things had to get worse. Or better. Depended on who you asked, really. The roll had successfully moved Ren out of the way. However it also successfully trapped her underneath him. And no, she was not scarlet in color. Unsuccessfully, LW couldn't move him again and BB came back for round two. Little mimic teeth clamped down on the tail that was not his lady masters tail.

One day, she swore, she would have a normal morning.

Ren was in that odd state of mostly asleep and partially awake where he did not really realize what he was doing. All that he knew was that he had found an LW shaped pillow and it was warm and snuggly and he liked hugging it. It was pleasant and comfortable and Ren was pleased.

Until he felt something latch onto his tail. That woke him up quite abruptly.

"EEEAAAAAARRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

The screech that Ren gave was half strangled, mostly because Ren was half falling off the pillow pile when he let it out, arms and legs flailing, feeling arms around his waist. Wings flapping, there was a sharp thud and Ren found himself on the floor beside the pillow pile - on top of LW.

He blinked down at her, somewhat confused. "Er," he said, tilting his head. "Little Wolfe?"

Teeth clamped down on his tail again and Ren gave another screech, flicking his tail sharply to the side and flinging the mimic in question away. Gritting his teeth, Ren scowled, closing his eyes briefly as he shook his head, reaching a hand up to push sweat dampened hair away from his face. This was not a good morning, though seeing LW made it better. The fact that he was on top of her made it slightly awkward, especially since her face was scarlet, but Ren shrugged it off. She was his best friend, after all.

"Good morning, wolflove," he said conversationally, and ducked his head, kissing her nose in greeting before he rolled off of her and to the side, back into the pillow pile, where he buried his face into the nearest pillow. He did not want to remember the nightmares, so instead he curled up, wings folding around him. "Mind if I join you?"

The first screech that escaped her best friend made startled her, eyes going wide. His flailing as they rolled worried her and the she-wolf hid her head in the only spot available at the moment. Against his chest. When no limbs continued to flail about, she risked moving her head only to blink up at lovely golden eyes. That were confused. Oh Jack he was on top of her! Just...really...once. ONCE. She was going to have that normal morning. One where she didn't find herself in such...situations.

"Yes...?" She said in response to her name, trying her jack damned best to ignore the scarlet color of her skin. Was it a bad thing that she ended up more often than she should with the gryphon? And like it. Waitaminute. What...where the Jack had that thought come from?! Oh this was bad. Bad bad bad.

Another screech and she winced. That one had hurt her ears just a little. She heard a loud thwack against the wall and sighed heavily, tail twitching as much as it could. Served BB right. He shouldn't have gone after Ren's tail. Who was warm. And looked...tired. More tired than usual. Had he slept at all during the night? Probably not.

"Good morning, kitten." She mumbled and sucked in a deep breath when he rolled off, the scent of cinnamon and pumpkin spice mixed with vanilla and lavender. Such a sweet scent. "Sorry about BB. He's pouting because I wasn't here much yesterday." LW sat up and glanced his way before crawling cautiously over next to him. Cautiously because she had no idea where her mimic was lurking now. She leaned against him, arm draped over his side and poked his chest. "You know I don't mind." Smiling, the she-wolf relaxed against her best friend.

"What was it this time?" LW asked, eyes hooded as she debated going back to sleep or just sitting as she was.

It was much too early for this. The sun had not even risen yet, the sky outside a dusky dark grey with flecks of violet and blue and hints of orange. Outside, it was quiet, the only sounds that of their own voices and the soft hiss of breathing as the pets surrounding them snored, their breaths deep and even.

Curled up on his side, Ren tucked his wings neatly around him, his tail flicking absently back and forth. Truth be told, he felt rather guilty for the fact that he kept sneaking into LW's room to find comfort and peace. He was certain that the shewolf had better things to do - such as be with her boilfriend, as a matter of fact - but the other side of things was that Ren needed her as much as he needed the others. There was something about her - about all of them - that simply...relaxed him. The feelings of warmth and security generated by all of them, LW in particular, since she was his best friend and he had known her the longest, could not be duplicated by any means.

And speaking of the shewolf...she had moved over next to him, nestling herself against his side, and Ren shifted, moving to lie on his back, his fingers linked beneath his head to make her more comfortable. His gaze slid sideways at her question, debating whether or not to answer truthfully, but then he sighed, knowing he could never fool the shewolf.

"Another nightmare," he murmured, eyes closed, rubbing a hand tiredly over his face. "As usual; what else is new..?"

Ren opened his eyes again, his lashes low, his expression shifting into a more serious one, lips pressed together in a slight frown. "They're getting worse," he admitted quietly, after a long moment. "I can't sleep."
PostPosted: Thu Apr 14, 2011 11:28 am

Her gaze had drifted towards the window in her room, taking in the neutral grey tones sprinkled with a dash of violet. Early morning. Definitely an excuse to get a little more shut eye. Except that wasn't what she was doing. Not yet anyways. Her best friend - hell ALL of them - was more important than a little extra sleep.

Speaking of important, she should probably go see Gabrian today since she had been gone for most of the previous day.

He shifted when she curled next to him and LW found herself quite comfortable reclined against him. The she-wolf's tail curled around her legs as her gaze moved from the window to Ren. She watched his eyes and knew that look. LW's eyes slanted a little in that way that said she was well aware he was thinking about trying to skirt around the real answer. When he finally did answer, it didn't come as too much of a surprise. Ren always had nightmares. Not for the first time, the she-wolf found herself sending out a silent plea for some way she could chase away those horrid and hellish dreams.

She knew it was a rhetorical question, but LW wanted to cheer him up a little. "Hmmm...well you didn't fight me in answering the question. That is new." The she-wolf teased lazily before a frown slowly crept across her face. They were getting worse?

LW sighed and gave him a warm smile. "It brings you comfort when one of us is with you though, right? You know all you have to do is ask and we'll stay the night with you." She lightly pinched his cheek a little. "And my door is always open, kitten." Winking, she twisted enough to lay on her back, head resting against his chest and using him for her pillow. The she-wolf was quiet for a few minutes before she spoke again.

"Ren...what are the nightmares about?" Perhaps it would help him feel better to talk about them? As far as she knew, he didn't usually speak of them. But maybe getting some of them off his chest would bring a small bit of comfort? At least she would understand exactly what he was saying when he said 'nightmare'.

It was nice, being here with his best friend, but at the moment, she was reading much too much into him and it made him scowl faintly, feeling mildly exposed. For some reason LW had a habit of being able to know exactly what he was feeling without him having to explain anything, and it was both a good thing and a bad thing. Good, because it meant they were close enough that they shared everything with one another, and bad because he could hide nothing. Gabrian and Alessa both had the same strange knack, but it was nothing like the way LW could.

"Yes," Ren answered her, slanting a smile in the shewolf's direction. "It always brings me comfort when one of you is with me." There was a pause. Then he added, somewhat cheekily "Although I don't understand why. Ya'll drive me up a wall most of the time."

He grinned at her to let her know he was just teasing, but the grin faded at her next question, and Ren sighed, closing his eyes briefly. He put a hand atop her head, ruffling her already sleep mussed hair, absently twisting one scarlet strand around his finger.

"Lots of things," he finally said, his voice low and quiet. "Mostly blackness. A suffocating darkness that I can't get out of."

He still remembered the way it felt in those dreams; like he couldn't breathe, couldn't run, couldn't do anything other than stand there and let the blackness surround him. It was an all-consuming, all-encompassing darkness that made the shadows look like rays of sunlight.

Ren shrugged, trying to play it off. "It's nothing," he said, shaking his head. "Don't worry about it."

There was another lapse into silence, though this one not very awkward. Ren's mind moved to his best friend . He could still remember the first time they had met, and he cast a smile down at the ghoul.

"Do you remember?" he asked her playfully, tilting his head. "What you said to me when we first met, I mean."
PostPosted: Thu Apr 28, 2011 2:14 pm

She felt very peaceful and...at home laying there with her best friend. He was very dear to the she-wolf and she loved being around him. It was comforting, amusing, and just special. He was special in his own way. They all were for that matter. Gabrian. Alessa. Ren. None of them could hide anything from each other very well. Gabe and Ren seemed to see right through her all the time. And Alessa just had what LW referred to as 'feminine intuition'. But the gryphon...she couldn't even try to hide anything from him. It was impossible. Like trying to count all the freckles on his body...

LW snorted softly and tilted her head enough to give him an innocent look. "So we just bring out the best in one, Ren the gryphon." She teased him right back, snuggling against him with a sassy smile. "And I'm glad that we can at least give you comfort with our presence."

The shift from teasing and playful to something more somber and tired made her insides squeeze. She knew he suffered more from the nightmares then he liked to let on. LW wished that there was something she could do about them, but aside from being there for her best friend, there wasn't much else she could think of doing. Although, it seemed that the little bit she was doing was enough right now, if the way he was playing with her hair was anything to go by. It made her smile at how he twisted a strand of her hair around his finger, much like she'd seen him do with his own hair. She wondered if he even realized he did that to her hair sometimes.

When he finally spoke, she was quiet, just listening. Perhaps it was because she knew him so well. Or simply that she was really taking the time to listen. But the small description of what those nightmares were like that he gave made complete sense to the she-wolf. It was his deepest fears. Manifesting in nightmare form. And, like usual, he was telling her not to worry and that it wasn't a big deal. At least I understand. Probably better than he realizes.

Another round of silence, one in which she thought over his words which turned into thoughts of how she, too, enjoyed having one of them stay with her at night. His sudden question confused her at first until he clarified what he meant. Then that special smile slid across her lips as she tilted her head to the side and met his golden gaze.

"I believe it was something along the lines of 'sorry' and 'hi, how are you' while I sat in your lap." Her smile morphed into an almost Cheshire like grin. "A very comfortable and warm lap, I might add." Still smiling, she moved until she was sitting up next to him.

Reaching out, she poked his forehead gently. "The nightmares will eventually lessen, Ren. When this," she poked his head again before moving her hand to rest against his chest. Over his heart. "And this stop warring with one another..." Hey! Would you look at that? Those freckles just about made a heart. LW traced the freckles with her finger, making a heart shape. Oh those ones looked like a smiley face from this angle! Violet eyes blinked down in amusement. Just how many shapes and objects could she form out of his freckles?

He really needed to get out more, spend more time with the others. They were all practically inseparable as it was, but at the same time, Ren both craved and needed that connection. They were the people who brought him to his senses, the people who kept him sane, who were willing to put up with his inadvertent mood swings that seemed to appear when he was dealing with his parents. Sometimes he could not quite believe how fortunate he was, how incredibly lucky he had been to stumble across...well, this. Yet here he was, with one of his closest and dearest friends.

Ren did not really realize that he was playing with LW's hair; on the contrary, he tended to twist strands of his own when he was deep in thought, and LW being next to him just made her the nearest thing. It was a force of habit, and had he realized it, he might have stopped, although probably not. Instead, he gave a small yawn, covering it with his free hand before slanting a glance down at his best friend. Ren let out a snort of amusement.

"Ah, yes," he said, and waved his hand dramatically. "I recall you practically forcing yourself on me because you were terrified of that green fellow. And then I seem to recall a ghoul sitting in your lap and reciting a poem, a well as one very - " And here he gave LW a cheeky grin " - very delightful kiss with one werelemur across my lap."

She had poked the side of his head, her hand moving to rest on his chest after that. Ren gave a small sigh, shaking his head as he closed his eyes briefly. "Unfortunately for me, my head and my heart seem to be at a never ending crossroads," he said dryly, then cast an amused glance down at the shewolf. LW was attempting to draw shapes on his chest, using his freckles as a sort of "connect-the-dots."

"Wolflove, might one ask what you are doing? They don't go away if you poke them, you know."
PostPosted: Wed May 11, 2011 5:58 pm

Maybe Gabrian was right. She had a weakness for having fingers run through her hair. Or just having her hair played with. Needless to say, she very much was enjoying the simple toying of hair Ren was doing. It still made her smile. One of these days, she was going to return the favor. And get his ears too. Damn secret want. Ooooh how she had wanted to play with her best friends ears for a long while! Lw didn't know why she hadn't yet. Something always seemed to distract her or she forgot about it until after she saw him again.

That was beside the point right now.

"Force myself on you, did I?" She snorted and batted at his leg. "Not like you shoved me away. Oh you're right! I did have poetry recited to me. Don't remember what the words were, but I recall them being very sweet." Her tail thumped against the ground and a devious smirk appeared. "Ah, yes. It was a very delightful kiss. And our dear werelemur was the first to steal such a sweet kiss from me." LW glanced up at him, violet eyes flashing. "You enjoyed watching it and you know it!" She giggled.

The she-wolf was not surprised by his response to her words. Giving him a dramatic sigh, she reached out and flicked his nose. "That is because you are such a stubborn a**." Not that she didn't already know this.

"Conquering the the land of Antagonism with the army of fluffy wolflove's." She said, mimiking his cheeky tones, which shifted to a dirty look. "And why in the world would I want them to go away? I love your freckles, kitten." She traced yet another cluster of freckles, making a crescent moon.

Ren could not remember the last time he and LW had simply spent time together. His parents had already stamped their seal of disapproval on the shewolf, but it was not like that made any difference whatsoever. If anything, if Ren did not already think LW was fabulous every way she was, this would have made him even more determined to get close to the werewolf. Seeing as how they were already best friends, it was a perk, but sometimes Ren wondered what might have happened if she had not sat in his lap that time. Would they have met elsewhere? Would she have said hi to him as they passed, or would he have waved to her in the hallways? No one could know for sure, but whatever the case, they had met and Ren was happy.

"You totally did," he answered her, in a mock serious tone. "You sat in my lap and said 'ER. SORRY ABOUT THIS.' and then even after that green guy had stopped thrashing about you still stayed there, like a sneaky little ghoul trying to get attention."

Laughter rang out across the room, clear and pleasant sounding. Ren shook his head, brushing his hair back away from his forehead. "I must admit, I was not expecting my first social outing to be...well, that. And seeing you and Natalia smooch over my lap? Well, let's just say it was a great first meeting."

He ruffled the shewolf's hair affectionately, his nose wrinkling when she poked at it. "I am quite aware of this, darling, but then again, so are you. We are all of us stubborn asses at some point in our lives."

The breezily said words were mostly true, though Ren felt more dejected somehow than stubborn. His dreams never ceased to leaving him with a hollow sort of heart.

He glanced down at her, amused. "Well, I'm glad," he said, more laughter rumbling in his chest. "Though if Gabrian walks in here and sees this he might throttle me. You, with your head on another man's bare chest..." Ren gave a melodramatic sigh. "Who knows what could happen?"
PostPosted: Tue May 17, 2011 4:42 pm

LW gave the gryphon a rude snort that was ruined by a giggle right after. "You still didn't shove such a sneaky ghouls seeking attention from your lap. So you must have been a sneaky boil wanting the loving affections of a sneaky ghoul." The she-wolf flashed him an innocent smile. From what she could remember of that first meeting, she'd been fairly freaked out of the fact a) that big green boil had almost taken her head off with his tail, b) when she'd found herself in Ren's lap, her mind had blanked out of fear of what he might say or do, thus making her forget to 'move' from his lap, c) ....Ren's lap was comfy, Jack damnit! And it had been close enough to snuggles.

"You were jealous two pretty ghouls were kissing each other and not you." The she-wolf teased. "And I don't really know what I was expecting when I went that night. Mostly looking to make a friend, I guess." Which she had. A very special friend who she adored. And his laugh! LW loved hearing Ren's laughter. It was contagious.

Some soft noise of appreciation escaped her when he ruffled her hair. It wasn't the first time she'd made such a noise. Gabrian managed to pull that out of her when she scratched behind her ears. "Yes. Some of us more than others." She agreed with a toothy grin. "Especially adorable gryphons like yourself." The she-wolf dragged her finger along another grouping of freckles, forming a star. Her finger was currently resting just off to the side of his chest when another thought struck her. Is he... Twisting until she was sitting almost fully up and staring down at him, a wicked grin spread.

"Well, I'm sure Gabe will only suffer a mini heart attack. And then flop down next to your fluffy butt and be his usual self." If it didn't make him uncomfortable at first, it surely would have made him suspicious with how close she scooted (not that they weren't already close) as she let both of her hands lightly drag along his sides with feather light touches in some spots. "Say, kitten...?" She asked with as innocent a tone as she could manage with the wicked glint to her eyes and smile. "Are you...ticklish?" This could turn against her fairly quickly if he fought back. Not that this kept her from discovering if he was ticklish or not. She surely was. Of course, she didn't share this with any of them either. Although Ren might learn it soon enough.

"Why LW, that snort of yours is quite unladylike," Ren admonished the shewolf airily, waving a hand. "And I'm pretty sure it was the other way around; if I recall you were the one who sat in my lap, not me trying to sit in your lap, ya big goofball."

The memory made him smile. Despite the rather...er, interesting night, Ren had had a surprisingly good time for his first foray into the social world of Amityville High. Not only had he met his best friend there, but he had also met Natalia, and Cora and Morton (though he did not know the latter so well as he would wish to; they were two pretty fun people who he would try and hang out with at some point). It had been a good night, overall.

Except for the whole "being chased by Professor Red in werewolf form and being sent to detention where they were attacked by washing machines" thing. Ren let out a derisive snort, shaking his head.

"Puh-leaze," he said breezily. "Jealous of you and the werelemur? Methinks you two have bigger egos than you need, darling."

When LW sat up, Ren linked both of his hands behind his head, glancing up at the shewolf with his eyebrows raised, eyes half lidded in amusement. "Gabrian and I do not snuggle," he said, trying to sound confident and failing miserably, especially since LW was moving abnormally close (well - closer than she usually would). "We're men. We do manly things - what are you doing?"

LW had moved her hands to his sides. Ren stared at her suspiciously before it suddenly dawned on him. "LW, don't - eeaaarrggghhh!"

Needless to say, he was, in fact, quite ticklish.
